Hey, today is Cinco de Mayo! Obviously, it's more of an event in the West, particularly California, as our ties and proximity to Mexico are obvious. Planning on doing anything? I might actually go to a happy hour with some co-workers but I think all Mexican restaurants will be quite busy being that it's Friday AND a "special" day.

So as you guys may know I've been job hunting for well, a while now. I had an interview for a photography and photo editing company in Amesbury, MA last week. The position was for Digital Imager, which means using Photoshop to touch up photos taken by the company upstairs as well as photos from other companies all over the country. I really wanted a job like this, because it meant I would get to use a program I love to work with to do something I love to do. This also seemed like a place I' like to work because it's family owned and it had a very friendly atmosphere. Plus, my commute would be against rush hour, so I basically wouldn't need to deal with it, and the plac…

Going up north where the remaining members of my family live...the once-every-3-month ritual...but will take a day for myself to go up to Canada, or somewhere, to clear my head. Well, I know it will be salmon on Friday night (Good Friday) and a brunch I don't have to pay for on Sunday morning, so not all is lost. Any plans for Easter?

Hey guys: For those of you who celebrate it, have a great Easter Weekend. For the "mackerel snappers" in the bunch (derisive name for Catholics), remember it's Filet-O-Fish for lunch....just that 1 day a year....c'mon, we'll get through it. Sure would like to find a nice juicy broiled shark steak for dinner, though. Leave for Portland tomorrow and come back down Sunday night. My Mom said she won't be cooking any of the 3 days and, for Easter Sunday, these friends of hers who transplanted up there from LA within the last 6 months invited us to eat at their place. What are C&Ger Easter plans?

What are you all doing for Easter (this Sunday)? I leave tomorrow pm to go to Portland to visit my Mom. Will probably spend Saturday driving to the Oregon Coast (about 80 miles to the West and very scenic, but generally c*o*l*d). Then a Sunday morning brunch and onto the plane in the afternoon to come back down. Happy Easter!

So... how bad's your hangover? ...Or in other words, how was your night? I started the night off lonely... at my grandparents. My parents and my brother went somewhere else. Eventually, people came, and the party began. Started with Smirnoffs... surprised? Played some cad... lost. Then came new years... 3... 2... 1... Downed a small bottle of Whiskey. That later turned out to be a huge mistake as that stuff is pretty potent. After that more people came and we played more cad as well as a game of quarters (CLR, I think? Left, center, right...?). Won my money back. Drank more Smirnoffs inbetween glasses of water. Then it was just straight partying until I started…

Happy Holidays to all this 2017! We have all had our take on the auto industry and much more this year, it has been one for the history books and it now looks to be the start of an industry changing year as the success of the Chevy Bolt, start of rough production for Tesla 3 and so many new options as the industry moves from cars to CUVs and an exciting Detroit auto show ahead of us. Just wanted to take a few minutes to say thank you to all that have made Cheers and Gears such an entertaining and awesome place to talk about the auto industry. Way too many people to thank each one individually but want to say; Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you all!

It's the last weekend of summer. I'm sort of looking forward to cooler weather...but not too cool. What are you folks doing? I get on a plane tonight and fly up to Mom's (that's PDX). Since I will inevitably get in a fight with her (she's a supreme pain), I will take the rental sled up to Vancouver BC for a few days and come back down just in time to catch my flight. This will be my first flight with the new "bans" in place. Unbelievable...no toothpaste, suntan lotion, deodorant or any of that stuff in the cabin. I wonder what check-in and the security line will be like. Everybody, have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day and report back.

To all you mothas out there. Ha. Hey though, what are you guys doing for your mothers today? You'd best not forget her, or she'll "accidentally" put something red in the washer with your tighty whities so they come out pink! For the last few years, I've been taking my mom to Baltimore's Inner Harbor for lunch at Legal Seafood, then a stroll around the harbor attractions. This year it's cool and cloudy with the threat of rain, so we're sticking close to home. I just hope we can find a restaurant that's not packed.

I’m using one of my “my site, my rules” tokens to say: Fuck off 2020! If you haven’t done so recently, please take this post as a reminder to check your fire extinguishers, buy more to keep around the house, and check all of your smoke alarms. I had a house fire today and it all happened in under 3 minutes. I saved my house but I got 2nd degree burns on my hands and spent the morning in the ER. A stray broken match head ignited my shower curtain and destroyed my bathroom. Albert had a robe hanging in there and it refused to stay out even after multiple hits with a fire extinguisher. I managed to grab it and fling it into the tub and finally got…

Awesome, it will be a 3-day work week...with everyone most likely being "on demerol" the second half of the day on Wednesday, if not leaving early. I'm heading up to the PNW. It'll be a brunch with my Mom on TG Day. I'm seriously thinking of going up to Canada (Vancouver) for the remaining 3 days, seeing that gas is under $2 a gallon. What will you folks be doing? Be sure to be thankful for what you have, as some people aren't in good sorts these days and people in third world countries have next to nothing. Ok, off my soapbox....safe travels! From Bill Vance of Canadian Driver: July 18, 2007 Motoring Memories: Hardtop convertibles Story and photo by Bill Vance Although true hardtop convertibles are becoming popular now, there were a few earlier attempts that weren't so successful. In the beginning, virtually all cars were convertibles, most descended from open carriages and buggies. Rudimentary canvas tops were normal as carmakers were more concerned with mechanical reliability than passenger protection - and automobiles were rarely operated in the winter anyway. As reliability improved and cars were used year-round there was increased interest in weather protection. Enclosed cars gradually ev…

First off, I just mentioned this car in another thread, but I thought what the heck, why not post some of my favorite lesser known hardtops. Not the typical, well known '57 Bel Airs, '59 Cadillacs & '70 Challengers, (I love those too) but the weird, off the beaten path stuff you might not have EVER seen before, or perhaps you saw one but it was 7 years ago at a car show. Here goes: 1.) 1965 to 1968 BMW 2000cs Be still my heart! The later 1970s cs/csl coupes were quite beautiful as well. 2.) Going even FURTHER back in time: 1962 - 1965 BMW 3200cs A compact, slick looking car that had a V8, four on the floor, two door …

I am a huge one and I can't wait for the seventh and final book to come out this July 21st, Harry Potter and the Deathley Hallows. I enjoy the movies but as with most good books the movies don't hold a candle to the books. Anyways just asking. can't wait for the 112 days till the book release.

Okay, who else here was up at 12:01 AM, waiting outside (or inside) for the latest edition of the Harry Potter series??? I will admit that I was just as interested in it as my 13 y-o stepson is. I was just fine waiting until Saturday morning to go and pick up a copy from the local Target, but the main town next to me (Mount Holly) had a "Harry Potter" party in their historical village shops and I figured my money would be better spent keeping a small mom & pop bookstore alive, rather than lining another Big Box's coiffers. Anyone else here get one at midnight, or planning to get one soon?

There could be a whole bit of research on this topic that would be strictly region-based; however, in our area, this holiday used to be embraced by every house in the neighborhood. Now, I took my own kids in the buggy for their first candy-beggar experience, only to be left feeling like somebody stole the baby-Jesus from the local nativity scene and asking, "What the hell is wrong with people these days?" When I was a kid, a small army of us would trek a 5 mile loop before we'd get home, unload our loot, then have my parents drop us off another 10 miles away in another community so we could circle their area. Every single house had some great spirit with their decorati…

NOTES 1 ... This is a "woa, can ya believe so many years have past since...?" topic/thread. 2 ... I'm not even sure exactly WHY I'm sharing this, but maybe we'll find out.... Every now and then, an anniversary will hit, and, when you realize just how many years have gone by and what all has happened since that event, you pause for a moment ... and wonder just where has the time gone. It was a shock to me ... a shy guy who had FEW friends and was so NOT popular. Of course, as it most-often does, time has eased t…

Is it me, or does the all-new GL look downright cheap and generic? I've seen Chinese imitations that look more authentic than this actual MB design. Everything about it screams dull, plasticky and derivative. *NOTE: The following images are taken from the official Mercedes-Benz website*.

Saturday afternoon, I stopped to get gas before I left town for Freeport IL to see some friends for dinner. The gallons (after almost a week of driving) was 7.729 for $17.00. On the way back home late Saturday night, I thought about getting gas, but decided I'd just get gas today (Sunday) after I did some running around. So, today, I stopped at Walmart, stopped at a no-touch car wash to get the '87 MC LS washed, drove a bit to help dry it off a bit more, then stopped for gas. After I got back home and started inputting the figures into my "gas book", I was stunned to discover that the gallons and dollar amount were exactly the same as yesterday's ... 7.729 gallons for…

Most of the callers are unhappy about one thing or another (understandably, of course) ... and that grates on my nerves so much so that I have yet to go to a local cruise night this year. It doesn't help that I'm "tied to the desk" 24/7 while I'm at work. I get home and don't want to do anything; haven't even had the older 4 MCs out much this year. I cri…

Do Something about it? (link) I've been having recent fantacies of driving my new Camaro, but dread the idea of the possibility that I might have to install a front license plate on it. So... I came up with an idea of replacing the front plate with a decal that could go on the windshield, and thought I'd research CA law for $h!s-n-giggles to see exactly why a front plate is required and if such a decal idea would work. Well... I didn't find that information, because I ran into the above link (petition) instead. Who knows if the petition is worth it, or if it's even legit, but I wouldn't mind getting rid of the stupid law!
