TCC Test: 2007 Nissan Altima 3.5SE On the whole, we have to rate the 2007 Altima 3.5 SE as one of the better entries in the crowded mid-size segment. It likely doesn't quite have the broader, plainer appeal of the Camry, or even the Honda Accord, for that matter. But that's not a complaint. The last-generation Altima was the number four on the U.S. passenger-car sales charts. With its healthy dose of attitude, the new sedan could do even better. When you add in the new Sentra, we think Nissan is likely to regain a fair share of momentum in 2007. The Car Connection

Nissan and Toyota HD Trucks Postponed Both Toyota and Nissan were planning on entering the full-size heavy duty pickup truck market soon, but both automakers have delayed joining the fray for at least a couple years. Nissan had hoped it could build a heavy-duty version of the Titan off of the half-ton's platform, but it's clear that the truck's frame won't be able to meet the minimum payload and towing targets that heavy-duty truck buyers demand. Though the full-size half-ton Toyota Tundra (shown wearing its work dungarees) will enter production in less than two months, the automaker's plan for a heavy-duty version has been postponed for undisclosed reasons. Part family sedan, part hooligan By Karl Brauer Date posted: 04-17-2006 The Altima is arguably the most important Nissan product of the last decade. If you go back a mere 10 years and look at Nissan circa 1996 you'll see a company struggling to survive in the North American market. The Z was about to die. The "premium" products coming out of Infiniti were lackluster at best, and nothing in Nissan's future portfolio indicated a turnaround was anywhere on the horizon. Fast-forward to the New York auto show — spring of 2001. Nissan rolls out an all-new Altima that offers more interior space, more horsepower and considerably more attitude than the former family sedan be…

Not Happy Loss of GT-R sports car to Nissan angers Infiniti dealers By KATHY JACKSON | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 04/17/06, 10:36 am et NEW YORK -- Infiniti dealers were incensed last week by Nissan Motor Co.'s decision to sell the high-performance GT-R sports car under the Nissan brand. Nissan revamps its Quest minivan's now-plush interior By Anita Lienert ANN ARBOR -- In its zeal to win over women who hate minivans, Nissan went overboard with its 2004 Quest, turning off empty-nesters and hardcore minivan users with a poorly designed cabin. The most off-putting Quest feature was a mammoth center pillar -- sometimes irreverently described as the "telephone pole" -- in place of a more traditional instrument panel. The pillar held the gauges and controls, forcing the driver to constantly glance to her right to check things like speed. It was distracting, ugly and polarizing. The Quest, which was launched in mid-2003, was a painful exercise in hipness, …

"While Nissan sales and profitability remain strong today, strong sales do not necessarily equal success tomorrow," the company said in a letter to retirees. The soon-to-be Nashville-based automaker has changed its retirement plan for new hires, going from a traditional pension with a gu…

Nissan’s Smyrna Plant Marks Silver Anniversary [Feb. 3, 06] 25 years since groundbreaking for Nissan’s first U.S. manufacturing facility SMYRNA, Tenn. (Feb. 3, 2006) – Twenty five years ago today, Nissan executives, state and local officials and area residents gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking in Smyrna, Tenn., for Nissan’s first U.S. manufacturing facility. In the years since then, the Smyrna plant has played an important role in the automotive industry, in the South’s development as an automotive center and in Middle Tennessee’s economic landscape. With the Smyrna Plant, Nissan brought production of a compact pickup truck to the U.S. In 1981, project plans ca…

From the March C/D i just got today 98 cubic feet interior space -this intrigues me, my old Diamante had 97 cubic feet, as did the saturn L series, so this makes me think the new Sentra is quite large inside for a compact series car. 135hp 2.0 litre engine with 6 speed manual standard -fun and mpg? this car might be more appealing than i thought it would be. certainly its nicer than the corolla. space in vehicles is awesome. civic coupe has like FiFTEEN cubicfeet LESS inside. Sad.

Nissan has released new images of its URGE design concept, set to debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The motorcycle-inspired car seats three and focuses on light weight and performance. It’s also the first car to offer a “fully integrated gaming system,” according to the automaker. It features a built-in Xbox 360 from Microsoft that enables drivers (while parked) to play “Project Gotham Racing 3″ using the car’s own steering wheel, gas pedal and brake pedal while viewing the game on a flip-down seven-inch LCD screen. Nissan sales slump short-lived: Ghosn

Nissan Motor Co. Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn sought to allay fears of a protracted fall in the auto maker's sales, characterizing last month's sudden, sharp slide as a short-lived reaction to the completion in September of a highly publicized sales drive. Under its last business plan, Japan's second-biggest auto maker had promised to sell 3.6 million vehicles globally in the 12 months through September 30. With the final tally at 3.671 million, Nissan delivered on all three commitments under the "Nissan 180" plan: 1 million additional sales versus fiscal 2001, an operating margin of at least 8 percent and zero automotive debt. But in an evi…

The water-repellant paint also has a …

A nice break from all the bad news about GM and Ford: here's a story on how the media's automotive darling is having problems. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/conte...47/b3960064.htm I've heard that over 10% of Nissan's dealers have already sued the company for what sound like some nasty tactics. Apparently, Ghosn's trick is to cut corners to prop up short-term profits and threaten any dealer who doesn't stock up on the necessary number of Quests, Titans, and Sentras needed to make the numbers. If you don't play ball, they lose your allocation of whatever's hot or send you all kind of nice legal letters about terminating your f…

Just announced in the news......Nissan is moving their N.A. headquarters from Gardena (L.A.) to the Nashville area where they have an assembly plant (Smyrna, TN.) 1,300 jobs will be transferred from Southern California to the Nashville area. Personally, I think this is a MAJOR mistake for Nissan. Why? 1) The car culture in Southern California is second-to-none in this country. 2) Trend-setting is also second-to-none (maybe along with New York) in this country. 3) Southern California is an automotive dynamo with numerous different manufacturers having their N.A. headquarters here and most also have design studios here (GM even has one in North Hollywood.) That…

Nissan will unveil a number of concepts and new model previews at the Tokyo Motor Show in addition to the GT-R Concept. The one with most relevance to the US market is the all-new, bigger, Bluebird Sylphy, which I believe will be the basis of the 2007 Sentra. http://www.auto-report.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=685

Nissan Chief: Hybrid Cars a "Terrible" Business Prospect Date Posted 09-23-2005 PARIS, France — Not all automakers are rushing headlong to embrace hybrids as a solution to fuel economy woes. Carlos Ghosn, joint CEO of Nissan and Renault, described gasoline-electric hybrid cars as a "terrible business proposition," despite moves by many rivals to expand production of the vehicles. "Hybrid sales account for less than 1 percent of global sales," Ghosn said. "It is a niche technology. The question is how much the consumer is willing to pay for them, and if they are unsure at $70 a barrel [for oil] then I would be very worried. For no…
