After a month-long strike and threat earlier this week, General Motors and Unifor Local 88 have reached an tentative agreement for workers at the CAMI assembly plant. Last night, Unifor Local 88 made the announcement via email to its workers. Details of the agreement are being kept under wraps until a ratification vote is held on Monday. General Motors' announcement to idle and possibly close five plants next year comes around the same time that the company begins their negotiations with the United Auto Workers (UAW). Already, the UAW has said they would go "through every legal, contractual and collective bargaining avenue open to our membership," to try and keep the plants. DETROIT (AP) - The United Auto Workers union isn't negotiating with auto supplier Delphi Corp. but began talking with General Motors Corp. two weeks ago about a possible deal that could avert a strike at Delphi, the UAW's top GM negotiator said Tuesday. UAW vice-president Richard Shoemaker said Delphi has only talked to the union twice since it filed for bankruptcy in October, when it gave the union two different wage proposals. The recall involves the 1999-2002 model years of the Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL. DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors (NYSE:GM - news) said on Friday that it was recalling nearly 106,000 sport utility vehicles in the United States and Canada to fix a rear door latch that may not close properly due to corrosion. Alan Adler, a spokesman for the world's largest automaker, said the 105,893 vehicles affected by the potential safety defect included Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL SUVs from the 2002-2003 model years. August 29, 2008 - 11:15 am ET DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. is recalling 857,735 vehicles equipped with heated windshield wiper fluid system for a potential short circuit problem, according to federal safety regulators.
