Over at the Autoweek Combustion Chamber forum, one of the admins put up a thread warning members not to post pics from Brenda Priddy & Co, but to link to them instead. Some smartass put up a picture of Brenda Priddy and asked something like "OK, but what about pictures of Brenda Priddy herself? It was amusing.

Chronicling the Death of a Car Have you ever stopped and thought about what a car goes through at the end of its life? It's a very sad and to be honest very brutal fate that awaits a vehicle that provided its owners years of service, usually asking little in return. To most people a car is nothing more than an appliance, something that is merely cast away like an cell phone. To car enthusiasts however, who think of a car as more than the sum of its parts, a machine which can have passion and soul, and something that is part of your family, the following may be difficult to read. Car and Driver recently sent a tired, old BMW 325i to meet it fate, likening the wrecker t…

I saw this in my Facebook stream, from Clarkson: I could make a cheap car if I built it in a factory made from wattle and mud, paid the workers in rice and motivated them into a 20-hour day with whips and flame throwers. I don't know if this is in reference to the Tata Nano or not, but thought it was hilarious

one word Amazing! This weekend was the Red Bull Air Race in Detroit. It was crazy. They put on a very good show and had much more then just air racing. they had helicopter stunts and sky divers and military aircraft flybys. They had a F-4U fly in formation with a F-18. that takes some skill there. Then the F-18 did a mach .98 fly by. Also had a B-25 flyby. Crazy stuff. I cant wait till next year. Did any of you get to make it? There must of been 200,000 people there easily. Forgot the camera but i will find some on the net and post them.

So I've been thinking about the future of the car. Assuming that electric cars are the future... or at least some sort of hybrid drivetrain, and that motors, engines, batterys/capacitors will continue to shrink, I was thinking that the current debate of FWD vs. RWD will change radically. FWD's biggest selling point is that the weight of the engine is over the drive wheels. And for the car makers, its a packaging benefit. Since electrics tend to put the batterys in the center of the car, and there are many prototypes of electric motors that are located in the wheels of the car, negating the need for a large motor in the front of the car, the weight is actually shifting …

Hey everyone! There's going to be a vintage carshow at Lexington's Keeneland horsetrack this Saturday from 10am-4pm and I was just curious to know if anyone is going to be there? Its only $15 entry so I'll probably go, should be cool. Radio commercial this morning said that they have 5 classic Corvette's on loan from the GM Heritage Museum, including a Mako Shark. From looking at the 2005 show winners on their website: http://www.keenelandconcours.com/ They apparently have EVERYTHING classic, from Porsches to Maseratis to Corvettes to Mustangs. For $15, can't really beat a good show like that. If anyone's going to be there, we can maybe have a meet'n'greet or something,…

I went to the Coronado Speed Festival this past weekend, at Coronado Island/North Island NAS in San Diego. Had a great weekend, saw a bunch of neat vintage race cars, some racing, and a variety of interesting street cars on show. A little of bit of everything--lots of Porsches since the 911 was featured marque, '70s Datsun race cars, some vintage Trans Am cars, NASCAR cars, Can Am cars, open wheel race cars. Got to meet Tony Adamowicz, great guy to chat with. here's a few pics.. More pics at my Fotki album here http://public.fotki....ado-speed-fest/

Crashes car into mall, and then steals clothes from mall to get dressed.... DALLAS - A man wearing no clothes crashed a stolen vehicle into the Southwest Center Mall and then proceeded to get out of the vehicle and dress himself in clothes from a Champs Sports store Friday morning, Dallas police said. The incident began with a woman being approached by a man wrapped in a blanket. The woman told police he came right up to her and stole her vehicle. It is unclear at this time if he used force or was armed at the time. The man then drove the vehicle through the entrance of the Southwest Center Mall, slamming kiosks and leaving behind major damage until coming to a halt …

Hey everyone been super busy lately. I got my license back after having it suspended for a DUI which I got because i was a complete idiot and drank and drove and I ran into a checkpoint. I sold my 2006 malibu SS to pay for the legal bills and to pay off the ballance of the car and a few other debts since I wasn't going to be driving for about 4 months. So I got it bacl about 3 days ago and I don't NEED a car right now but it ould be convienient to have and I WILL need a car come next school year. So thought about what cars I wanted for a good long while. First I wanted RWD, I was tired of FWD cars. For GM that left me the CTS, since I scratched a sky or solstice…

New technologies and changes in U.S. law are adding to pressures to turn Internet service providers into cops examining all Internet traffic for child pornography. One new tool, being marketed in the U.S. by an Australian company, offers to check every file passing through an Internet provider's network — every image, every movie, every document attached to an e-mail or found in a Web search — to see if it matches a list of illegal images. The company caught the attention of New York's attorney general, who has been pressing Internet companies to block child porn. He forwarded the proposal to one of those companies, AOL, for discussion by an industry task force that i…

There's a movie I saw years ago that I just remembered again after recently having bought Demolition Man, but I have no idea what the name of it is. I'm pretty sure it came out in the 90s sometime, and it's in the vein of Demolition Man where a guy gets sent into the future to track somebody down. I think the movie takes place in a future New York (I remember one fight scene takes place in a futuristic highrise building that dwarfs the Empire State Building). The protagonist in the movie used to be a racing driver before he is sent into the future, and he meets up with his girlfriend from the past. It's not Demolition Man and I'm pretty sure it's not Fifth Element...d…

Agreed... I may come across as a merciless bean-counter (to an extent I am one, at heart and in training in the context of the Accounting and Finance weighted Commerce degree I'm currently going for) but I have feelings beyond the rational in this situation. My family has bought GM almost exclusively as long as they could afford cars. I have a special kinship to Pontiac and other GM brands, and have had for most of my life. I taught myself to read at three and a half on 1993 & 1994 Model Year Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Pontiac Brochures. As I grew up I learned to appreciate the 1990s and early 2000s GM fare that kids my age simply didn't aspire to. I lusted after…

So Wednesday after work my girlfriend and I had a nice lunch at the park and decided that it would be fun to go to the Interstate Auto Auction...no intentions of buying, just a chance to check out and drive a bunch of cars. Here are some Highlights: Dodge Stealth My this was the first car we test drove, which my girlfriend pointed out shortly after we started looking at cars. This one was Silver, with the stupid Dodge spoiler (I like the Mitsubishi one much better), upgraded brakes, and performance exhaust, and...blue trimmed black interior. Now, I have…

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran accused the United States on Wednesday of "intolerable" meddling in its internal affairs, alleging for the first time that Washington has fueled a bitter postelection dispute. Opposition supporters marched in Tehran's streets for a third straight day to protest the outcome of the balloting. The Iranian government summoned the Swiss ambassador, who represents U.S. interests in Iran, to complain about American interference, state-run Press TV reported. The English-language channel quoted the government as calling Western interference "intolerable." President Barack Obama has reacted cautiously to developments in Iran, saying he shared the world's "…

So, with this past weekend being the true greatest spectacle in motorsports- the 24hrs of LeMans- I thought it could make for a good UDG thread. Rules- 1) Maximum of 5 cars. 2) Cars can be from any era/year. 3) Cars MUST be OVERALL winners to be eligible. 4) Your selection MUST also be the ACTUAL RACE WINNING CAR. Not a different car of the same make/mfr because you like that team/livery/etc better. In other words, down to the exact number and driver combo. * I will do a separate thread for non-race winning cars, so don't get hung up over that one.

There is a club holding an event at the St.Thomas racetrack for Cavaliers and GM compact cars. The article from CanadianDriver states that GM will show off vehicles there including the SATURN AURA. I think I know where I'm going on Saturday. it is not to far from St.Thomas, Ontario which is fairly close to Buffalo and even Michigan if you dont mind the drive. It is probably a 2 1/2 drive from Detroit. Read the article to see where it is and it gives a link to the track's website. This would be great even for a little C&G meet if people show up. Here is the link. Gm Compact Car Show Details

So, I'm back home from another Saturday night on the town and it was pretty much like every other Saturday night for the last, oh, how many years? I've never been the type of person to go out with the intention of meeting anyone. That is just setting yourself up for for disappointment. I'm always open to the possibility, but I'm not the type to jump into anything on a whim. I have multiple 'bar' friends that I see regularly and talk to but, and I hope I'm not sounding like a complete jerk here, they aren't people that I want to do anything with on a social basis outside of the bar, much less anyone that I'd be interested in developing a relationship with. As home prices continue to decline and loan defaults mount, federal regulators are bracing for dozens of American banks to fail over the next year. But after a large mortgage lender in California collapsed late Friday, Wall Street analysts began posing two crucial questions: Just how many banks might falter? And, more urgently, which one could be next? The nation’s banks are in far less danger than they were in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when more than 1,000 federally insured institutions went under during the savings-and-loan crisis. The debacle, the greatest collapse of American financial institutions since the Depression, prompted a government bailout that cos…

Sighs, it never rains but it pours, right? I had my new 71 Camaro at a show a couple of weeks ago and on the way home I started to hear a knocking from the engine compartment. LOUD. I immediately got into a weigh station (lucky it was right there) and shut down. Thankfully my brother had trailered his 73 to the same show and we unloaded it and put my car on the trailer. He then let me drive his car to my place (with only 100 miles on the new engine) while he followed me. The next day Tammy (my wife), our 2 kids (7 and 11), and I pulled the engine out and tore it down. The front two piston rods were completely drive at the main bearings. In fact number 2 had no main…

In August, I wrote about Anthony Graber, who was charged with "wiretapping" after posting a police encounter on YouTube. This week, Harford County Circuit Judge Emory A. Plitt, Jr. threw out the charge for wiretapping, saying there was no expectation of privacy in this case. "In this rapid information technology era in which we live, it is hard to imagine that either an offender or an officer would have any reasonable expectation of privacy with regard to what is said between them in a traffic stop on a public highway," Plitt wrote. ACLU attorney, David Rocah, one of the attorneys representing Graber said: "This ruling upholds the fundamental right to hold police acc…

I've been to Pensacola FL many times. I like to go in the shoulder season and mid-week when it's still warm and not too crowded. I may be getting a free ticket on Southwest. Since I have no other vices and I'm cheap, this is the only area where I spend money. I'm looking at their route map and it looks like I could get fairly close to South Padre Island, TX. After all this time... from when I started posting drawings back in Feb. 04 to when I recently posted pics of my parent's old vehicles... I have lacked the one crucial element that made me use my digital camera... a scanner. Well, guess what. I now have a scanner... Finally! It's not hooked up yet, though. We are going to wait until we restore the hard-drive for 5th or 6th time. Stupid piece of $h! computer... But... Yay! Scanner! Woo! Haha!

Save the Earth in Six Hard Questions By Steven Landsburg http://www.slate.com/id/2176156/ Barring a last-minute intervention by the Supreme Court, the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize will be shared by Albert Gore Jr. Admittedly, Gore has been less of a menace to world peace than some previous laureates (think Henry Kissinger). But there is nothing particularly peaceable about Gore's rhetorical approach to climate policy. At his most pugnacious, Gore has depicted the fundamental trade-off as one between environmental responsibility and personal greed. Of course, as everyone over the age of 12 is perfectly aware, the real trade-off is between the quality of our own lives and the …

In the myriad articles about the whole Toyota recall business, why is it OK to keep repeating this line... "Toyota's STERLING reputation for safety..."? Since when did Toyota have anything other than an average record for safety? I mean, when I think of a car with a STERLING reputation for safety, I think Volvo or SAAB, but NEVER Toyota.

Figured I'd go in a similar path as Fly did with his Jag thread. This was imported from Japan and now in Canada. This car is amazing. One of the cleanest examples I have seen (in fact one of the very few I've ever seen). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...ADME:B:EF:US:11 Very cool.

My '95 Olds 88 is getting to the point where its not only embarassing to be seen in, but miserable to drive. I need to find a good used car. I've decided to get either an Olds Alero or Dodge Intrepid. Anybody have any input on potential mechanical problems that are common with either of them or anything else I should look out for while searching?

With all the cars I see on a daily basis, I figure it's worth putting into a collection (again). So, here's a short gallery of what I've seen in 2016. As the year is still young, I hope to continuously update this with new material. Also, just as a forewarning, not all of these are of the highest quality. When I'm out and about sometimes a quick shot is all I can capture. Some shots are... highly cropped and edited, but the cars are worth showing. Enjoy! Okay so that last one is a tractor... Also, I wanted to share this photo with you guys. I just happened to stumble upon this photoshoot. Here's a link to the shot Cadillac published from th…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yxaV8zdEu4 If GM was serious about maximizing fuel efficiency in a production model, why not revisit the 1992 GM Ultralite concept car with today's technological advances? Sorry, I was watching Demolition Man on TV this morning. I decided to Google more about this car and found the above YouTube video. This would seem to be a more viable option than going hybrid or electric. Food for thought!
