who are caught speeding in an '06 Trailblazer SS by the Michigan State Police traveling East on 696 towards the Tech Center? Must have sucked to have been that guy! I do wonder how GM handles that if ticketed. He's in a company vehicle, on company time.

With all the recent talk about bailing out General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler, I wonder if America ever had to call on the foreign makes as we did GM during World War II, would they respond anything like this.... As it was put to me: "When America needed GM most, GM was there, when GM needs America most, will we do the same?" Thoughts...

HYSTERICAL!!! I wrote TTAC about their disgustingly poor journalism. Here's my letter and the immediate response. Mr. Farago, My name is James Conley. I'm heading into my first year of college this weekend, and I am an aspiring author and admitted car nut. As such, I have made a career of scouring the net for automotive news, articles, reviews and anything else I can get my hands on. While it isn't my aim to lash your work with name-calling and finger-pointing, I will say that TTAC is undoubtedly the most self-fulfilling, disconnected and irrelevant source of car news I have ever come across. Reading the work of yourself and your co-workers leads me to beli…

Just watched the first few episodes of DEXTER on OnDemand. Boy am I hooked to this show. Not often do I get sucked into a TV show. I've actually always considered people who are addicted to television to be sad. I like to LIVE life, not just experience life vicariously through a two-dimensional media. That being said I love this show. It's such an awsome premise to have a dark hero "serial-killer-killer" or perhaps it's more like "serial-serial-killer" or is it "serial-killer-killing-serial-killer"? Thoughts? Other fans of the show?

Got a Dell catalogue in the mail not long ago and looking through it really makes me want one. They're cheap and better than this 8 year old Gateway POS by a long shot. I can get a bare bones Dell Inspiron B130 for only $499 (well, $449 with discount) with Intel Celeron M, Windows XP HE, 14.1" XGA widescreen, 256mb of memory, a 40gb hard drive, CD burner/DVD drive, integrated Intel Graphics Media Accel. 900, internal wireless, a free color printer, and a 1 year limited warranty. Compare this to my 1998 spec Gateway Essential with Intel Pentium 3, Windows 98, 15" monitor, 128mb of memory, a 9.52gb hard drive, basic CD drive, and everything like printers had to be bought se…

I'd like someone to design me a new Pontiac-themed signature that I'll display for a little while in honor of Pontiac's closure. I'm thinking something along the lines of a G8 GT and possibly a Solstice, as a tribute to the last two REAL Pontiacs. Anyone up to the challenge? If yes, post your designs here and I'll consider all that are offered to me. TIA

When you buy a new GM car or truck, you don't just get an owner's manual anymore. You get other stuff, like that how-do-i-turn-off-the-wipers pamphlet as well as being mailed other stuff after purchase. One of the things sent to new Saturn owners after purchase is a Welcome Kit. Starting with the 2008 Saturn OUTLOOK - and continuing forth with the AURA, SKY, ASTRA, and VUE - this is what the Kit will contain... This is but a small example of the exciting things on the horizon for Cheers and Gears, both things that were planned and amazing things that suddenly came up. I'd just like to thank everyone here at C&G - the other mods, the members, everybody - for sha…

A friend of ours organized a car show for a local high school. Apparently, someone had a video camera and put a couple of video compilations on YouTube. It was probably someone from the Mustang club. The show was small, but it was a success financially and actually had a good turn out given the size of the school and the fact that it was an inaugural event. The only bad thing was that we all got sun poisoning. The '68 can be seen at 3:06 of part 1 and the '73 can be seen at 3:31 of part 1. Not a bad showing for their first time out of the garage in a couple of years. Around 1:16 of part 1 is our friends (The one who organized the show) very sweet '79 Trans Am. Part…

Spring Carlisle is a good event and I'll be there to send the Maserati through the collector car auction (Friday at about 4:25 PM) and to hunt down some El Camino/Wagon parts. I will probably drop the car off on Thursday or maybe Wednesday, be there for the auction on Friday, and still be poking around on Saturday. Anyone else planning to hit this event?

I hardly recognize the place - so much has changed. It is looking like at least one of my projects will be back in gear very soon, and I can't do a project without updating the appropriate thread with a blow-by-blow of the work and lots of pics. So I will be around starting pretty soon. It will not be right away, since I will have to switch-over to a new computer ( this one really doesn't function on C&G). Also, I need to get my camera back up and running first. That said, look for me to be showing up here more often in the near future.

No matter what cars are in my fleet, I always want to drive the most recent acquisition the most. Since the Blazer hit the road, the wagon has been sleeping in the barn and the Silverado has done quite a bit of driveway sitting. It has close to four times the mileage of the truck and the wagon is still a "freshly done" project, yet I choose to drive this old soldier most often these days. I'm sure the manual trans. has something to do with it.

Ok, so my new computer has a reccomended screen setting of 1680 x 1050 pixels, and most stuff look fine, except that some stuff (pics, smilies) appear slightly pixelated. I probably have to change the Internet settings somewhere, but if someone would tell me instead of me wasting my time looking, then I'd appreciate it.

Okay, so I haven't checked on my favorite '87 Pontiac Grand Prix LE since the fall (maybe October?). And the dealership it is at - remember, this car is the dealer owner's personal car - lost both its franchises (Pontiac in '09 and Cadillac just recently in late 2010 or very early 2011). The building is now marked as an AC Delco repair facility though it looks emptier than before. I've been curious if his collection of cars was still in existence, namely my favorite Pontiac. So Friday night on the way home I stopped by to do a quick check. I was disappointed to see it missing from its parking spot inside the garage; however, I know the owner takes it out on nice weath…

I'm about to fly to Japan to throw my Toshiba through the window of their corporate head quarters. Don't waste your money on a Toshiba. Not only did my mother-board break in less than 3 months of ownership, we had to fight them to fix it, it took 3 weeks to fix and now the radio buttons don't work and the sound is wavy. Don't even try talking to their customer service line, they could care less and provide some of the worst customer service I've experienced in years. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A TOSHIBA!!

* HELLO AGAIN, EVERYBODY! I'm not sure any quantity or quality of words or time will ever be able to express my appreciation for ALL of your well wishes, thoughts/prayers. I'm well, mostly. My 4th open heart surgery (11/11/2011) was successful (my "big heart" is no more)! However, I was taken in for another surgery (evening, 11/12/2011), after I became unresponsive for a time due to internal bleeding around the surgery site. I still hurt/ache and am cold at times, but I'm coping and TRYING to follow "doctors orders" as MUCH as possible. The pain is more "annoying" than anything. Recovery is going VERY SLOWLY (it seems, since I haven't had energy to DO much), but b…

Well, I purchased a used white '06 G6 w/2.4l (29k, $12,900) -- which is what I was most interested after my Malibu went to car heaven. Here's some observations/opinions on my '04 Malibu: 1. *Easily* the most boring car I've ever owned. I went from washing my vehicles 1 once (sometimes twice) a week to maybe once a month. The car was as uninspiring to look at as it was to drive. It was truly an appliance. 2. The Ecotec 2.2 gets stellar gas mileage. I routinely pulled 400-450 miles out of 13-13.5 gallons of gas. Factor in that roughly half of those miles are stop-and-go rush hour traffic and those numbers look even better. 3. The light-gray interior seemed like…

Hey there everyone... not sure if any of you noticed my disappearance the last 5/6 days or not, but life has been really crazy lately. Let's start with the good news - I've been recalled back to work. Last Monday afternoon I received a letter from the boss of the HR dept stating one of my co-workers decided to retire effective September 1, 2009 and I was being offered the first right of refusal for her job (which I quickly called to accept). So it looks like my unemployment will be short (June 24-August 30) and I'll be going back for year #8 at the high school I've been teaching at (and hopefully with this new position be around for a lot longer). Now for the bad ne…

I have been so disgusted by the garbage coming from both major parties (even here in our own political threads), that I believe that I will most likely return to my long-established pattern of voting Libertarian this year. Last time I voted for Kerry (whom I don't like) just because I felt that "W" was such a rotten SOB that we needed to be rid of him at all costs - it was the only time that I have ever voted major party. I just feel that all rationality has evaporated in the shrill partisan bleatings from the dems and the repubs, which leaves me hating the idea of endorsing either with my vote. Not yet an absolute decision, but very, very, close.

It's a pretty odd thing to say at 22 (almost 23), but I've been feeling more and more that way lately. I just found out tonight that one of my good friends from high school is engaged, another friend is getting married in June, two others are engaged, one is now married and having a baby in September, and most of them are starting to graduate from college and get jobs in the real world. I still have a year left due to my five-year program, single currently, and don't have a permanent job yet (although I'm working again this summer at the same arch firm I was at last summer). It's amazing how much has changed from a year ago...and I'll soon be out of college and living …

OK, in the past few months, there's this woman who constantly keeps calling my mobile phone number, and looking for a non-existant person. I've told her tons of times that there's no such person, yet she just says "sorry", hangs up, then a while later (weeks or sometimes hours later) she calls again. I tried everything. Disconnect the call immediately when I see the caller ID, explain there's no such person, the person gave you the wrong number, everything. Nothing seems to stop it. I noticed the gap between the driver's front door and front fender is 3 4/9 millimeters wider than the gap between the passenger's front door and front fender. Also, I vacuumed out under the dash and notice the plastic panel between the firewall and back of the center stack isn't soft. Its hard. Also, when I turned the key in the ignition, I heard a very disconcerting sound coming from the front of the car. It was some sort of growling, like some sort of machinery was there. And when I started accelerating, the noise grew louder! I think I'm going to buy a Lexus. :P :CG_all:

I think the event is called Hell on Wheels, but I know for sure it is at National Trail raceway. Forget which large car club, all pre 72 American stuff, is holding a big get together. They are going to have drag racing and they also want an autocross, so the local (OVR) chapter of the SCCA and the Buckeye Miata club are going to help to run an autocross. Let's see...cars with 300, 400, 500 horsepower...guys who have never done this...some cool old cars...beating on them like they are ment to be beaten on....hmmmm. The 'What If...?' discussion got me thinking about how international things are becoming and just how quickly they are becoming that way. I can perhaps understand the need to captively import and rebadge a Daewoo as a subcompact or a European Focus as we just get lazy in this country. But when I read and hear about how "global concerns" may just end up seriously dictiating how large our midsize and fullsize cars will be, I get irritated. I have to wonder...am I the only one that's going to lament the passing of truly American-exclusive cars? Cars like... For years it seems we've had to bend to the will of foreigners. The original 300M's rear was chopped because …

So as you may or may not know, I haven't owned a car in over a year. I've been sharing my boyfriend's CRV. I've never been a big fan, but it saves money and we almost never have a conflict on when we need wheels. Over the past year I've kinda just gotten used to it. It's inoffensive in every way. Today the BF needed the CRV to go one place and I needed to go do construction work so I rented a Toyota Tacoma for 6 hours from Zipcar. Let me tell you... when a very base, 4-cylinder, rental Tacoma feels positively CTS-like, your daily driver sucks. The Tacoma is slow, has more body roll than a '76 LeSabre with bad shocks, and feels like a Camry inside, but it's RWD and h…

For the weekend. I'll be camping 2 miles away at the Knox Dale Fireman's Homecoming all weekend. Activities include: ATVing, drinking, partying, camping, softball, volleyball, demolition derby, games, contests, eating, more partying and more drinking. After I drop my bro off for practice, I'm heading over to my grandparent's place to help bring the camper and supplies over, then setting up the camper and my tent over there, and finally walking the 2 miles back home to ride my 300EX over. This year seems like it will be boring... as there arent as many activities as there has been in the past. I'll make sure to take some pics... including drunk pics. …

It's true. It was just a phase. I have been cured of my gay disease. *nods* ....Okay, perhaps not. I'm quite the flaming homo, still. Anyways, I haven't been on the forums very much the past month. Life has taken many twists and turns, some good, some bad. I've been busy with work, friends, family, and the ever popular past time of car shopping. Speaking of the last two... My Mom, out of the blue, offered to help me with buying a car. She just got a new job in which her pay will be about $5 more per hour than her old one, not to mention she just finished paying off the Sunfire. Anyways, this greatly helped my search for a car. I'm very thankful she helped me. That…

Hey, guys (and gals). I thought I would drop a line and say hi (for those who care) just to say that I have not dropped off the face of the earth - just the face of the northern hemisphere. I don't need to tell any of you regulars how bad things are for GM in North America. The dealer where I worked for almost 10 years closed its doors a year ago and I was forced to jump ship. Being a loyal Chevy fan, I joined another old, established Chev dealer in Toronto - and boy is that a dying breed. Things were going great through the summer, and then when GMAC cancelled leases (43% of my portfolio in 2007), coupled by all the bankrupcy news in the Fall of last year - well,…

Yeah... I'm so gay. Hot pink and neon yellow for my black light. It's hard to see, but the yellow makes my entire room glow, while the pink... well, it's just awesome. It all compliments my dance light, multi color strobe light, all red traffic light, red string lights, and white christmas lights well. My room is dangerously electrifying, literally.

I am taking 141 Seniors on their class trip from New Jersey to Southern California from Monday, March 13th through Saturday, March 18th. While I probably will jump back on here tomorrow for a little bit and rush back on next Sunday, I just wanted to let everyone know why you won't see me around for the next 7 days. Try to keep everything in balance, and someone PM me if something juicy happens, as I probably won;t be able to go back and read ALL of this upcoming weeks posts! Oh yes, in case you were wondering... I am CRAZY for being (1) a Class Advisor, and (2) taking 141 students all the way to California!!!!!

Right now I own six Chevrolets: one daily driver, one parts car, and four project cars. I think I'll be needing a change once I get through this batch of projects. And no, I'm not thinking of jumping into the Jag project.

...but my girlfriend is. She's 10 weeks along now, which makes me wonder why she waited until 3 weeks ago to tell me. But anyways, she went to the doctor the other day and apparently she had been carrying twins until one of them quit growing at about 9 weeks, the other appears normal and healthy, even if it does look a bit like a blob. But I'm excited and nervous and sometimes flat-out scared. But overall hooray for me!

I want to look 5 years into the future and see what treasures are sitting inside GM's walls right now. With all this speculation on engines, upcoming models, and now transmissions.. one's got to wonder. Chevy's getting a whole new face within the next year or two, Zeta will be debuting full-force, an 8-speed-automatic is in the rumor mill, Cadillac will be twice the company it is now, and GM's really cracking the whip on quality all across the board. Damn, I keep hearing new rumors and things "within the walls" and it just gets me antsy.. like that speculated 3V V8 and the "experimental 470 HP engine" found inside a CTS-V. And then with DI coming about and us hearing abou…

... For that white Honda Accord. The Astra has started randomly quitting on me. I have absolutely no clue as to why, nor do I know what spurred it on. It first happened four nights ago as I was rounding a turn at 20 mph. I actually didn't even realize the car had quit at first; I was hitting the throttle and realized the engine wasn't responding and the rev counter was at zero. I pulled off to the side of the road and it restarted as if nothing happened. It did pretty much the exact same thing heading home tonight. No warning, nothing. On another note, the gas guage and fuel range read outs no longer sync up. Again, no idea why. Considering there's so few of these …

There's so much negativity everywhere (and as Camino said, panic) So here goes, this thread will be a 100% positive ZONE. No bitching (myself included) no whining, no arguing, just clean, good, constructive input about whatever positive things you want to discuss. 3, 2, 1 - GO. 1.) Sometime between right now Halloween I will be a dad for the second time. Amelia is due Nov. 7th but according to doctors will almost def. be early. She's so active, kicking and rolling around in Julie's stomach that you can see her sweater/t-shirt moving around when she's sitting down. I',m super excited but also nervous. What a year to bring another baby into the world.…

I've just about reached the end of my tolerance for the way society is headed. This constant drumbeat of defeat and capitulation to the way things are makes me ill. I think it's way past time to flip them all the bird and start making changes. We need to toss all of the PC crap out the window, take the gloves off, and force a shift.

My schedule for the rest of the week is as follows: Tuesday - Work from 5-9:30 with my best friend and favorite boss. Wednesday - Co-op job interview at Continental Teves, Inc. (my top choice for a co-op position!) for Kettering University. Then work from 5-9:30, again with my favorite boss. Thursday - Test in Psychology. Last day of school before Spring Break. Work from 2:30-6. Friday - Start tearing down engine to put in camshaft, valve springs/retainers, pushrods, ceramic-coated headers/y-pipe, 180* performance thermostat, spark plugs, and spark plug wires, along with a full computer tune (though that means I'll be without my PCM for 5 days lol). I have thoroughly enjoyed my role as uncle & am looking forward to being an uncle again. No high speed internet for me. Verizon hasn't upgraded the lines here yet -so that's out. So I call Comcast, which is like saying I called China, you end up talking with a bazillion people who don't talk to each other just to get a rough idea of what it takes to get service. So they send this guy out to "survey" the job - I hear nothing for days. Today, I get a letter via snail mail to tell me that these criminals want $875.00 just to run a few hundred feet of cable to my house! Then, they expect me to pay them at least another $50.00 per month for as long as I want service! Can you say "BITE ME"?

Yesterday at around 2pm I helped to destroy a Honda. Wait, hear me out. I was driving the Datsun and caught this stupid red light that is pretty much useless becasue it should just be a blinking light IMO. It always stays red for like 3 minutes even though 15 sec. would be sufficient for the ONE car that is waiting to merge onto Rt.113. Anyway I slow down at the light and leave my car in Neutral since god knows how long I'd have to hold the clutch otherwise. All of a sudden this loud fart-can equiped nasty, refrigerator white 1990-93 Honda Accord pulls up next to me. He revs his motor for a sec and gives me "the look". So I'm like, sure I'm game... why not. I hold m…

My son received his first credit card offer in the mail this week. Imagine that! His first credit card -- at only age 6! It's from Citicorp -- one of the biggies. Since I moved within the last 8 months & this had our current, correct address - their records must be somewhat accurate. You can't tell me that they do ANY amount of background checking before sending out credit card offers what-so-ever. As a lender, wouldn't you want to, oh I don't know, check out income, credit report, etc before sending out a credit card offer? How can they say (with a straight face) that they are even halfway-serious about credit card security when they ma…

Yeah so, I'm on vacation this week. I leave to go camping tomorrow and I bought a new tent that sets up in the truck bed. It got here fast, I ordered it Friday and it came on Saturday. So I put the truck in the backyard, took off the tonneau and did a test set-up. All the hype on the box said "20 minute setup!" Yahright. An hour later and I finally got the thing erected. The tent is made by a Canadian manufacturer, so the instructions were written in English... with a French accent. Oui? Non. Anyway... ha, I hope to look less like a retodd tomorrow at the campground setting this thing up.

Normally I never work on the Odyssey, but it needed an oil change and transmission fluid change, so instead of getting raped at the dealership, I thought I'd do it myself. So last night, I extracted the oil through the dipstick with my Mityvac evacuator. Then I poured in fresh oil thorugh the fill cap. This morning I drove it a while to get the ATF warmed up. I drained the ATF through the drain plug, and refilled it with a funnel into the ATF dipstick. I drove it around the block. But then I noticed some bad noises and gear slippage. I opened the owner's manual again, and lo and behold, what I thought was the engine oil dipstick was the ATF dipstick, and what I thou…

I'm just going to say it. The US needs to "grow a pair" on so many fronts, or just start to fade away into the mists of history. I'm tired of all the screwing around with BS and minutae, let's actually do something meaningful for a change. Grrr. And ,hey, let's act as a nation for once instead of a bunch of shallow bastards that can't see beyond the end of their own noses.

Ugh! Another Saturday night has come and gone. My life has settled into such a rut. I can sit in a chair and practically imagine the entire weekend in my head to the extenet that the experience would be nearly the same as living it. Shopping, cleaning, laundry, paying bills, going to the gym, going out to the bars...it's all become so repetitive and boring, I'm going a little crazy. Even the coming of spring just adds more home maintenance and yardwork into the mix. I try to shake things up to the extent I can, but being single I have to do everything myself. Getting the things done I have to do leaves me only a small amount of time for fun. All of my friends t…

My aunt & uncle recently have had problems with their brand new Prius. It seem that it quit on them several times while driving. While it's being looked at, the Toyota dealership gave them a new Camry LE as a loaner. Now I have something to admit... I don't think it's a bad looking car. In fact, I think the Camry is a great looking car. Don't get me wrong, I'd never think of buying one or driving one even if I were paid to, but if I were a complete jerk who didn't care about supporting domestics I would not be embarassed to be seen in it. So while you all are flaming me for my apparently dissident (dis)tastes in aesthetics, to make this topic slightly more …

So, it's no secret that I tend to have... cravings for certain cars at certain times. I was once wanted a Fiero and nothing else. Then I was stuck on 240SX's. Then came Miatas. However, those were all similar in that they were sporty and small. But lately... namely since I've bought my Millenia, I've been getting into mid to large sized luxury sedans. You could say I just love so many different cars (and obviously don't have a fit whether they're domestic or not). But this is turning into what my next purchase may be. It's been obvious that I'm more than bored with my Milly. Its reliable, but due to the mileage, its not perfect. There's alot that needs to be done... fro…

I consider myself to be somebody who is pretty educated. I have a BA in Political Science and Communications. Was 2 classes away from a BA in US History and ended up with a minor in it. I am in law school right now and I cannot understand what the hell is going on in America right now. I know I haven't posted in awhile, but school and working has been very time consuming for me and I apologize to all the C&G fans for not being able to read all the posts here. But really, how is it evil or wrong to bailout an industry that provides 30 million jobs and is only a victim of the American system of the NYSE and instant gratification and rewards?
