When Kia revealed the new Soul to the U.S. in 2018, they announced that the EV would be arriving sometime a year later. 2019 came and the automaker announced that the Soul EV had been pushed back to 2020. A few months later, the launch date was pushed to 2021. Now, an internal source at Kia's U.S. office has revealed to Roadshow that the Soul EV isn't coming at all. According to the source, a number of factors played into this decision. Some of the factors such as limited supply of batteries and motors, along with increased demand for the model Europe were used to explain the last delay. Back at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Kia rolled out the Niro EV concept. Aside from the wild design cues, the Niro EV concept featured a 150 kW (201 horsepower) electric motor and 64 kWh battery pack. Range was estimated at 231 miles. Last week's teaser image of the 2010 Kia Sorento was just to whet our appetite, and now new images have surfaced that show big changes are in store for Kia's CUV. The Optima T-Hybrid Concept pairs a 1.7L diesel four-cylinder featuring a turbocharger and electric supercharger, and a a small electric motor with a 48-volt lead-carbon battery. The mild-hybrid setup allows the vehicle to travel on all-electric at low speeds and when cruising. When slowing down, the setup helps recharge the battery pack. Spied: 2009 Kia Mesa Hard to tell if these recent spy photos are really the 2009 Kia Mesa or not, but now that the Hyundai Veracruz has been unveiled it's not much of a stretch to think Kia would want a three row SUV of its own. You can see a few styling cues from the Mesa concept in this prototype like its broad grille and boxy shape. Those six-spoke wheels also look straight out of the Kia/Hyundai parts bin. The Kia GT concept was quite the stunner at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, receiving many praises from journalists and industry folks. Since then, there have been murmurs of Kia possibly sending the GT into production or not. A new report from Edmunds says the GT has been given the go ahead. Local dealer has a green base model Soul with a 6 speed stick shift for $15,610. I was researching the Soul then here at home, and it is amazingly well-equipped for the price, with that super-long warranty. Electric windows/locks/heated mirrors/keyless entry, privacy glass, rear wiper, 6 speaker stereo, a full compliment of safety gear. Even with the small 1.6 and wheel covers (I could pull them and ride on black steelies like the kids!), this could make a great daily driver to and from work. At that price, I might be able to afford a 10-year old truck for a second vehicle. THOUGHTS?
