I went to look at cars today and I checked out the S10. Turns out it has a 350 V8, Edelbrock parts, 1997 Sonoma rims, updated gauges and it is a 93. It is $2800 and has fair bit of rust. it look to bit going to start rusting around the rear wheel well as I have seen that on many older S10s. The $2800 is pretty much paying for the engine and tranny and rims. The car needs new paint and is a little bit rusty on the rockers and frame. WOuld this be a good deal or would I negotiate lower. It needs paint pretty badly as it is actually purple. I like that it has the 350 though because I really wanted to put one in an S10. What do think and can the rust be fixed? I really like i…

Seriously. I ran into this land barge killing time on AutoTrader, and I doubt it's worthiness on the paved seaways because, well, you tell me. I have no idea what the hell possessed the dealer to try and sell this thing on their lot. This is the kind of stuff I'd expect out of Craigslist. EDIT: Forgot to mention, the price is hilarious.

Why does GM not build RHD cars in the US for export? In South Africa you can buy an RHD BMW made in Spartainburg, South Carolina, An Accord built in Ohio to RHD specs, and soon Ford will be selling RHD Mustangs down there. Wouldn't GM get some great market penetration in foreign markets were they to ship RHD cars overseas? IIRC, the only RHD car GM ships overseas in the Ampera. How many RHD Amperes are sold? Seems to me that GM is being a little short sighted.

2016 was a year that almost everyone wants to forget. The election season that seemed to go on forever ended with the surprising election of a thin-skinned accused sexual predator demagogue and reality TV host to be 45th President of the United States. This extremely unpopular candidate had nearly 3 million fewer votes than the almost equally unpopular runner up. The Zika virus hysteria hit a fevered pitch. The Pokemon Go fad came and went. Transgender people using bathrooms consistent with their identities seemingly became the most important topic for legislatures across the country. The Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando was the deadliest mass-shooting by …

Want to talk politics with your neighbour? The Economist I WAS in Seattle on Monday, chatting to Pat Murakami, a lady who runs a small computer repair shop and does a little political agitating on the side. She’s concerned about her neighbourhood, a vibrant area full of Vietnamese shops and veiled women waiting at bus stops. A few years ago, the city tried to declare parts of it “blighted”. That would have enabled it to seize people’s homes and hand the land to private developers. Mrs Murakami started a group called “Many Cultures, One Message”, to rally her neighbors to object to the proposed bulldozing. She prevailed. Or at least, the plan to knock down chunks of he…

I googled around a good 15 minutes, can't find what I am looking for. In vintage Road & Track road tests they used to feature scale 'see-thru' line drawings on the car's spec page. These showed the outline of the car, the power train & the driver seat/steering column. Here's a tiny example : My library of original mags is primarily Car Life & Motor Trend, so I don't know when this practice of providing these scale drawing started. ANYWAYS…… I am looking for that same sort of scaled line drawing for ANY 1950s car, say '50-57 (as the '58/59/60s start getting 'lower/longer' than I'm looking for). Anyone stumble across such a thing, please le…

The 3rd annual Keeneland carshow was today. Featured make was the Corvette, all makes and trims welcome for the Corvette, so there were supposedly over 200 Vettes at the show. I took pictures of the classic ones, since any of us can usually walk outside and see a C4/C5/C6. Strangely, there were no C6 Z06's, which struck me as odd. Also at the show were 5 Corvette Concepts on loan from the GM Heritage Museum: Mako Shark, Mako Shark 2, Aerovette, Sting Ray 2 and Sting Ray 3. BEAUTIFUL cars. Here are my pictures!

It's pretty lame but it lifted my spirits, if only for a sec. when I got it in my email. ------------ A cabbie picks up a nun. She gets into the cab, and notices that the very handsome cab driver won't stop staring at her. She asks him why he is staring. He replies: "I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to offend you." She answers, "My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am nd have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive." "Well, I've always had a fantasy to have …

This is one of the best, most well-written opinion pieces I've read among the car publication circles in quite some time. Take a bit to read this- Build the Brand, Burn the Brand and let me know what your thoughts are on the matter. I think it almost perfectly sums up my stance. I've said it time and again with regards to BMW, Mercedes, and the like. When you build and sell so many cars, your product inevitably begins to lose it's cachet and exclusivity that make people desire it in the first place.

Western automakers are fighting to stop sales of China-built cars that resemble their models. Fiat has gone to courts in Italy and China to block sales of the Peri, a car built by Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor. The Peri is almost an exact replica of the Panda, Europe’s best-selling minicar, Fiat says. BMW and Daimler are suing European distributors to stop sales of China-built cars that appear to be clones of their cars. Meanwhile, Toyota has promised to do a better job obtaining design patents for its models in worldwide markets after the UFO, an SUV that closely resembles the second-generation RAV4, went on sale in Europe. Ready to fight Chinese carmakers hav…

There was a white late 90's Civic parker about 1/3 of the way into a spot near teh building. We walked past it, wondering why it was like that, if it had died or if the driver was just really bad at parking. Unlock the car and open up the doors when one of the two guys asks if I can jump it. I said sure, but I don't have cables. Do you? He said he didn't, but asked if I could help he buddy push the car and he'd try a rolling start. I said no problem (I'm so kind). As Toyota Motor Corp. joins the Big Three Detroit automakers in trying to soften up fuel economy legislation winding through Congress that would require a Corporate Average Fuel Economy standard of 35 mpg by 2020, what gets lost in the controversy is that the carmakers actually could achieve the target. They just want a little more time — and money. Key to the fuel economy target in the likely bill: building pickups and sport-utility vehicles that average 27.6 mpg by 2020. Despite complaints from automakers, that goal is certainly attainable. But it's going to take a well-funded information campaign aimed at consumers to prime the marketplace for what amounts to a re-eng…

Today I was cleaning the wheels on my car to avoid them getting pitted out from all the salt and sand that have been put on the roads lately, when I noticed dozens of little rust spots all over the side bodywork of the car. I freaked. I had spent so much time over the summer claying and waxing, trying to get it prepared for winter, and there were these tiny pin drop rust spots everywhere. I started running through my mind what could have caused it and decided it was probably all the salt they have been putting on the roads lately. So I took it into the garage and started wiping it down with Fast Wax to remove salt residue and found out it was also removing most of t…

Motoring Memories: 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Greenbrier van. Click image to enlarge Chevrolet Corvair Greenbrier, 1961-1965 Story and photo by Bill Vance DaimlerChrysler often claims that Chrysler invented the minivan when it brought out its "Magic Wagons", the 1984 Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. Such was not the case, however, as this was at least the third coming of the minivan. The original concept came from Volkswagen in 1950 when it installed its Beetle powertrain in what was essentially a metal box on wheels. To give their Transporter, as they called it, commercial-use pulling power, the little rear-mounted, four-cylinder, air-cooled, horizontally opposed…

GM could leave this open for GM employees because if it is opened to the public, the cars may get wrecked or ropes may be put around them. There is an amazing amount of cars in there as well. Alright, so after a week of back-and-forth e-mailing with the owner of a slightly older used car I found for sale on a Craigslist ad, I'm planning to go check it out sometime today (likely in the early afternoon). Since it has been a LONG time since I shopped for a used car, and even then is was for a newer used car, is there a standard checklist to take along so I don't overlook anything? It would be a bonus if it was from a "Used Car Shopping for Dummies with little Mechanical Skills" book. If I like what I see, I will be asking to take it for a much more thorough inspection by an AA-approved mechanic. But I want to be able to perform a basic inspection so the selle…

Ahh- the smell of model cement !! I spent some time as a kid building plastic models- if any of us hasn't, I'd be surprised. I built maybe 15. When I moved out, my mom tossed 'em all off my 3-tier shelf- I wasn't really upset I suppose. I do have a half dozen of the boxes, as they were usually packed with odds-n-ends; them, I still have. I don't think we've done a thread on this, so perhaps some pics of some favorites would be interesting. Some of mine I built (via Google): The Tom Daniels stuff was fantastic. Others were mostly classics- '30s-40s stuff, nothing from the '50s/60s. Anyone else?

That's my modded ZR1 in Forza, passing a Veyron. It was tough to do, had to outdrive him as he clearly still had me in terms of sheer car abilities.

We all enjoy things automotive. But you've got to experience certain things in person. I've got some pictures of the Grand Ascent at Hershey where cars as old as 100 tear up the hill just as they were designed to do! You've got to put this show on your calendar for next June to see and hear these great cars! What do you think of these cars? Check out the Bugatti Type 57 and Wayne Carini's Porsche! http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/4174

So finally my girlfriend was able to find the school bus that witnessed the accident a few weeks ago. She was able to get the info of it down (the plate, bus number and the company it belonged to). This was yesterday, so by the time I got home the Lawrence School District office was closed, and today I wasn't able to call. I plan to tomorrow, but I'm not sure how to ask or if they are the right people to call. The bus is from North Reading Transportation, which several towns away from us, but makes stops in this area, which leads me to assume that it has a Lawrence bus route for one of the Lawrence Schools...but it didn't say which. When I called North Reading Transportat…

I was up in Oregon and Washington for about a week visiting friends, sight seeing, etc...interesting place...hadn't been there before.... the coastline is beautiful, the mountains great, waterfalls, gorges, etc... I really like what I've seen of Portland..I stayed in Portland, did a day trip to Seattle, so I saw more of Portland..loved Powell's City of Books (huge bookstore), Thai restuarants, went to a couple jazz clubs, a number of brewpubs, a U2 concert, and got stuck on I-5 in an ice storm...I'll have to go back in the spring or summer to tour wineries in the Willamette valley. Had an '06 GP as a rental from Avis...pretty nice, overall.. I l…

Honestly, at almost 36 (12/23), there's not much I want that we can afford (for example, I'd love new tires and rims and the GM accessories chrome & painted door handles for my '06 Envoy, but can't afford them). But that doesn't mean others here don't have a Christmas wishlist that has realities and/or fantasies. Share them here, if you'd like. FANTASY: I'd love to find either of these trucks parked out in my driveway with a big red bow on it Christmas morning (Santa, are you listening?!?):

First of all, happy new years everyone! Hope you're all doing well As the title says, time for something new! Already got a '19 Ram for a Daily (I'll upload the pics in a bit), so I don't need my A4, as while it's lighter and more nimble, I've had it for almost 6 years and short of a Big Turbo and center/rear diff's, that's basically it. Going to sell it, then use the $$$ towards another project car, but which one, as I can either replicate one of my own one's as seen here or go for something else. Narrowed it down to a few simple things: RWD Manual Coupe or Convertible 280whp min. NA (FI down the line) …

Here's one from about 5 years ago, a supposed image of the C6. And this one is from Kettering's web site from a few years back. Any Kettering guys seen this one before? Is it still used anywhere? A better question is whether or not Prof. Berry is still working on PrimeGen?

...and I can't figure it out. I've tried everything I can think of too. My labtop won't connect to the internet. Not anywhere. Tried my parents network, local Panera, even a neighbor's. It will (at times) hook up to the network, but not the internet. And if it does, as soon as I click to get on, it drops off. I need some ideas..help!

I was wondering, after I saw a white 06 Miata with a chocolate top, why the Sky and Solstice only have black cloth tops and no optional colors. Does the Corvette still offer multiple colors for its convertible top? I know you USE to be able to choose from white, brown, or black...not sure if you can anymore. Anyway, guess my point is basically GM should definitely offer more than black for the Kappa top color, because that chocolate on white Miata was a damn good looking car.

I was going to head to some Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley, etc. dealers today in the Detroit area. If anyone has been, do they give out brochures or anything? I also don't hope they think I will buy one. Most expensive dealers are in Troy off of Big Beaver Rd. The Ferrari dealer is in West Bloomfield wherever that is! If you know anything about these dealers or any US Ferrari dealer could you tell me? (PS. I feel like a billionaire going to all these dealers!!! LoL!)

I am taking a much needed break away from my family and friends here. It's been constant cooking, cleaning, and logistical problem solving. Tis the season. I just wanted to take a minute to wish everyone here at C&G a Merry Christmas. I hope the holiday is filled with whatever you so desire. Sincerely, K.C. and "the family"
