Future GM North American Operations Please note that all information in this report is subject to change. GM is a very internally disrupted company at the moment and many programs have questionable futures. I will try to update and correct the information as I discover it and when I have a free moment. Also, I don’t include SAAB in my report, as it is part of GME, not GMNA. Chevrolet: Zeta: Impala (GMX551) development has been suspended indefinitely and development is now totally focused on a front-drive platform that’s larger than the 2008 Malibu. GMX551 was under scrutiny from the start of the study, which only increased in intensity as it progressed and new …

He was found in a New York apartment naked and surrounded by pills. It is believed that it is Mary Kate Olson's apartment. Honestly, he was a part of my childhood. Most people my age agree that '10 Things I Hate About You' was one of those movies that "marked" our generation (like 16 Candles or 'The Breakfast club'). He truly was a great character actor. I never would have assumed I would feel like this, but I am really really crushed.

My GF's brother is the not so proud owner of a previous gen Civic. A year or so back they had a major recall over the headlights just cutting off in the middle of a commute. (I don't remember seeing that one in the mainstream press) He was a good lil sheep and took his car in for the needed repairs. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago when he and his girlfriend are driving home from work one night and his headlights just randomly cut off. He takes it into the dealership again and they say: 1) The recall was never performed on the car in the first place (Umm, what?) 2) Because the car is out of warranty they charge him $187 for the new switch. And 3) If he wants to get his m…

Or rather, push it until it started? Funny thing happened today. My girlfriend and I were coming out of Burger King today (yes it's bad for us, but I care not). There was a white late 90's Civic parker about 1/3 of the way into a spot near teh building. We walked past it, wondering why it was like that, if it had died or if the driver was just really bad at parking. Unlock the car and open up the doors when one of the two guys asks if I can jump it. I said sure, but I don't have cables. Do you? He said he didn't, but asked if I could help he buddy push the car and he'd try a rolling start. I said no problem (I'm so kind). I walked over and we got ready while teh driv…

... there is no legitimate reason for a wholesale abandonment of the Zeta architecture. It is a product ready for release with all of its development money spent. It has been crtically acclaimed, and certainly sets a new standard for GM RWD. I will concede that in its present form its shelf life may be shorter than it would have been due to outside factors, but to toss it aside before letting it prove itself in our market is pure stupidity. If CAFE and fuel prices and currency issues pinch it back in the coming years, so be it. But to invite a huge and obvious loss when the product itself is so strong makes no sense. A pendulum swing back to all FWD all the time is …

Alright, so over the last few months, there's been a lot of crazy ghost-like action going on in my house.. so I'll tell you what's going on with this ghost of "me" (my mom and sister claim that it looks just like me). Be ready to read.. here are the instances it's been seen: When I went back to school like 2 terms ago a bunch of crazy stuff started happening in my room at home.. the alarm clock I haven't used in like 10 years started going off, some collectible Coke can on my counter got a pin size hole in the side and leaked all over my room, I don't know what else My mom saw "me" come into her room in the middle of the night a couple months back wearing the exact s…

Since no one has given me a straight answer in other threads I'll make a thread just for the question. Someone please tell me how a FWD Impala is anymore efficient than a RWD? Is is it cost effective if a new FWD platform must be engineered for it, unless they place to use the G-Bodies or bring the W-Bodies back for yet another round? All I know is the cancellation the Impala really irritates me, far more so than any other things I've heard recently, including Chinese Dodge subcompacts. Unless someone can come with a good explanation, the only reason I think that it was canceled, and I'm sure others feel the same way, is because of the pricks inside GM that are deads…

So... I got the classic Trojan Horse virus. My anti-virus software caught it and quarantined it, but not before it did some work to my PC. It apparently replaced some important Windows files which caused it to become unstable. In other words, my entire desktop is gone. Icons, start menus, toolbar... all of it. I have to use the task manager to open anything. The exact message I get is "Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Install your Windows XP Professional CD 2 now." The problem is, I never got a disk. It was bought at Best…

Think how much easier it would be for automakers to make cars if every country drove on the right side of the road. Countries in red drive on the right side of the road, those in blue drive on the left side of the road. Most countries drive on the right side of the road. The majority of the countries that drive on the left side of the road are relics from the old British Empire.

It was quite the circus..walked around for about 6 hrs, spent an hour or so sitting down watching some of the actual auctioneering. A little something for everyone, mostly '60s-70s muscle cars (massive #s of Chevelles, '67-69 Camaros, Impalas, Bel-Airs). Many, many Mopies ('68-70 Road Runners, '70-72 Cudas, Challengers, '68-70 Chargers, etc). Lots of Mustangs (incl. 2 red '69 Boss 429s) and various Shelbys.. There were quite a few '50s-60s big cars as well..the usual '57 Bel Airs, Corvettes and Thunderbirds, along with a massive '57 Roadmaster conv..a couple '59 Buicks, '59 and '60 Olds, a couple '59 Pontiacs and 4 '61 Catalinas and Bonnevilles.... Many thanks to Anton, an Autoblog reader from Down Under, who was kind enough to grab a couple of snapshots showing us one of the Queensland Police Department's new highway patrol cars. We've reported on Toyota Australia's TRD Aurion before -- it's basically the Camry we want but can't have. With a much better-looking face and 323 supercharged horses underhood, the Aussie-built sedan is inherently more appealing than the vanillamobile available at our local Toyota stores. And now the fuzz has them, too. Earlier this month, the Queensland police welcomed some of the "regular" Aurions into its white-liveried standard fleet. Our new friend Anton noticed a TRD Aurion dresse…

So, I guess you guys have heard of this website. It's a place for old classmates to gather to keep in touch. 2007 was my 25th year out of high school, having graduated in 1982. We didn't have a reunion party last year, but one is in the works for this year. Anyway, as a member of the site, you get a "guestbook", a place for people to sign in and say "hi". This morning I got an email, someone signed in a greeting. When I saw the name I was a bit surprised, it was from a kid who was heavy in earlier grades. By the time we graduated, he was a buff, goodlooking guy, a hit with the ladies. I didn't think he knew I existed at the time, but it was nice of him to remember…

Logitech MX Revolution. Got it for X-mas after wanting it for over a year. Yeah baby! I love thing thing for so many reasons. First, it's the most comfortable mouse I have ever used or held. It's ergonomics are superb and the build quality and materials used are very nice. It has rubber inserts for your thumb to rest, the primary buttons are a one piece design, and the other buttons are nicely finished. Then there's the scroller, which is quite amazing. It's made out of alloy and not plastic with rubber grip in the center. It features what Logitech calls SmartShift technology, where the mouse can switch between from normal scrolling to nearly frictionless scrol…

Britney Spears, Tom Cruise, Lindsay Lohan, Kanye West, Terrell Owens, Paris Hilton, David Beckham. Who are these people and what are they to you? Well, that’s easy, they are celebrities. They are rich and famous; they are amazing people – right or wrong? Obviously that statement is right. Photographers make millions of dollars to follow them around and find out what’s going on in their lives, and it’s so easy for them to do it. These celebrities put their entire lives out on the street to sell themselves; they’re basically whores, all of them. But that’s fine because these paparazzi are making their cash and we’re just soaking it up. “What happened to Paris?! No way…

It's 2012 and alternative fuels are widely available. Ethanol has taken 25% of gasoline's market and Bio-diesel is common across the nation both as a motor fuel and for home heatng use. Fuel cell/ electrics are offered by all major manufacturers and home re-fueling is an affordable option for them as well as the increasing number of Hydrogen-fueled ICE cars. Record numbers of wind farms are operational, new nuclear plants are finally being built, and solar is coming into its own. CAFE really looks silly at this point. BTW: crude oil prices are dropping - steadily. So where will the automakers be?

If we assume that I don't get to have my G8 ST after all of the dust settles, and the automotive world fills with transportation appliances, what should be the last hurrah? I mean should I buy a top dawg Camaro in some loud color and stripes? Or flip GM the bird and get a Challenger? Other ideas? The object here is something nasty, anti-social, fast, and in your face. Something that says to the appliance-driving world "bite me". If things go really badly, this will be my final new car purchase, so it needs to be something that will wade through the Toyotas and re-badged Opels like Katrina through New Orleans. If you were in the market for a crossover or cute-ute, would this vehicle appeal to you? The Honda Edix is available in Japan. It is a 6-seater 5-door hatch, roughly the size of the CR-V except shorter and more of a wagon. It uses a 2.0L or 2.4L K-series engine. I don't know the weight, but it probably weighs a little less and due to the shape likely will get 2-3 mpg better than the CR-V. The middle seat in each row slides backwards 27cm or 17cm to make it more comfortable for the person sitting there. Likely the middle seats will be occupied by children, but when needed (and if you don't mind having your arm up against somebody else's) seating capacity for 6 would be…

Anyone here heard of those designer dogs? You know, where they take a full blooded standard poodle and mix it with a lab or a golden retriever, or take a pug and mix it with a poodle. Did you also know they charge in upwards of $1000 for one of these dogs? That is crazy! They are mutts. While mutts are great dogs and I love them all, breeding dogs is not about money, it is about improving the breeds and freeing the breed from diseases such as canine hip displasia and eye diseases. These designer dog breeders are ripping people off by providing low quality dogs. These are not quality dogs from a health standpoint, and while they will be great dogs during their y…

Automotive News January 14, 2008 - 12:01 am ET Toyota's sprawling Georgetown factory in Kentucky horse country has taken over as the top-producing vehicle assembly plant in North America. For eight consecutive years, that honor went to General Motors' Oshawa car plant in Ontario. Georgetown finished on top in 1998, the year a long GM strike knocked the Canadian operation out of first place. Oshawa No. 1 and No. 2 are in the same building so are counted as a single plant. GM's Oshawa truck assembly is in a separate building and not included. In 2007, Georgetown turned out 514,382 vehicles, up 2.1 percent from 2006. Oshawa produced 470,016 units, a decline of …

I get out and as soon as I walk inside I hear "Hey, is that a Cutlass or a Grand Prix". I answer. He says "How much? I'll buy it". I let out a little laugh and find the gummy fish my friend wanted. I walk up to pay as he continues to talk about it. He says "That car is worth alot of money, especially sitting on the origina…

I was drafted to move a very large item (think boat-sized and boat-shaped) yesterday but didn't do it, so I had to do it this morning. Obviously my Fusion isn't equipped to tow one of these so I had to borrow something. There is at least one Outlook in the fleet, but it was gone today, so I was left with either a Durango (ew!) or one of the dozen or moreTundras sitting there. I'll say this, the Tundra tows easily and rides very well with a trailer in tow.

For xmas I got a DMH electric cutout. It just got here yesterday and I wired it up that night. Then this morning I went and had the cutout welded in. It sounds like open headers! Definitely the best bang for the buck I have spent on my car! Here is the electric cutout... Here are some pics of the install... Installed and all wired up... Here are some videos of the cutout working and me having some fun... Understand politics a little bit? I don't feel like researching, but I'd like to learn a little more UNBIASED information about politics. Where do Democrats and Republicans usually differ? I know Dems are tree humpers and Reps typically will go to war much quicker than a Dem. I honestly don't know hardly anything about this stuff and I wish I did since I can vote now. I also have to look up the people running.. whose all running to be Dem and to be Rep right now? Isn't it basically between Obama and Clinton right now for Democrats? And I only know of McCain running for Republican... Somebody, please, enlighten me.

I got a chance to check out the Buick today with my own eyes (previous days have been to cloudy and wet), and the frame is definitely bent. Anyone know the cost to make it straight? Just surface repairs are going to be $1500 to $1800. The repair shop is 100% sure there are issues underneath. **Hubcaps not on car, as these are winter tires**

Nissan Motor,Japan's third-biggest automaker,is preparing to produce fuel effcient small vehicles for Chrysler, taking a different route to enhance its presence in the American market despite concern about a slowdown. The two auto firms are in the final stages of negotiation on a deal for Nissan to supply Chrysler with small cars models with an engine displacement of around 1.8 liters,Japanese broadcaster NHK reported on Thursday. The pact is expected to boost Nissan's sales in the U.S market, and to help Chrysler make a turnaround from its recent weakness, attributed in part to an overdependence on light truck sales, the report said.A Nissan spokeswoman confirmed the …

Well, you can choose to buy one Prius for about $25,000 or ten Tata Nanos for the same price. Which would it be? Pros: Prius: Good gas mileage Prius: You'll have celebrities wanting your car Tata: Prestige 2 cylinder engine Tata: You can have one hell of a good bumper car game Tata: You could say you've got a nice set of Tatas... Cons: Prius: Well, it's a Prius... Prius: Styled like a whale Tata: "What's style? Our engineers didn't know either." Tata: WTF is a Tata? (WHERE'D THE POLL GO?)

As of today, I have DSL. Oh what a wonderful thing it is. Sure, it's not the fastest thing.. but compared to dial up, it's a virtual heaven. I can actually watch videos without the 30 second pauses as it downloads only 3 seconds worth of video. As well, myspace's excessive ads no longer haunt me. Chris's habit of posting overly large pictures of debut vehicle no longer makes me whine about it everytime I chat with him. Downloading music can occur within minutes... instead of hours. Having to wait for my brother to get off the phone will never happen again. And porn... it just got alot more exciting. Also went from cable to satellite today, as well. My dad sort of we…

The wind around here is crazy, trucks were getting blown all over the highway on my way in this morning. The power keeps going out every half hour and taking out the network. Fun. I blame the wind. For some reason it's 11AM and the whole lab smells like fried chicken, but nobody knows why, or where the chicken is. Not sure if I can blame the wind for that one. Shaping up to be a strange day. Anybody else experience crazy winds?

Hey guys, I just got informed that my parents are car shopping. I guess I should inform you of my parent's vehicle buying habits, the first car I remember them having is a 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity station wagon, they bought it brand new and drove it until April of 1997 when they bought their 1997 Buick Century, they kept it till June 2005 when mom got the itch for a truck. So they traded in the Buick and bought a 2005 S-10 crew cab ZR-5. Well its 2008 and dad is wider than he used to be, and mom's knee can't really take climbing in and out of the truck like she used to, so they're hunting for something new. Right now they have their sights set on a Buick LaCrosse, it…

Lately my car has been getting great mpg, and ironically I've been driving faster lately. Usually I go about 75 on the interstate, but the last week I've been waking up later and have a 45 minute drive to work, so I go about 80. I just filled up my car tonight and discovered I got 27 mpg! The EPA rates my car at 25 mpg and before I had my head gasket replaced I was getting 22-23 mpg. This is about 85% highway, 15% city driving. I would've assumed I'd be getting worse since I've been speeding more lately, but I'm actually doing better! How does everyone else do on highway MPG?

This morning at about 8am I was on I29 heading south between the Canadian border and Grand Forks heading back to Fargo. Just north of Grand Forks I noticed a Charger, a 300, and too matching Aspens heading toward Canada. I thought it just could have been a coincidence but not a half mile later I saw two matching camo'd SUVs tagged by a 4 door Wrangler. Both these vehicles were a little smaller than a Durango it seemed...I'm guessing they were Journeys, but I don't know. They were under light camo, just the front fascia and the back hatch seemed to be covered. About a mile later I saw a Caravan, followed by what was unmistakably a Challenger under complete camo fol…

It doesn't snow here often, and when it does they don't clear the roads. Well, the Buick decided to go one way and I wanted to go another. Unfortunetly the Buick headed towards a dirt wall. I hit it hard enough to crack up the driver's side fender, mess up the bumper and I'm sure more. When there is more light I'll be able to check it out better. For the record, this is my first on road accident.

Well guys, I think I told all of you about where I work. I work for an auto parts company, in fact its CarQuest. The particular store that I work at serves one of the two ambulance companies that operate from where I live. The ambulance company that my store serves has one particular ambulance that really hits a special place with me. Its called Angel One, and its a NeoNatal Transport ambulance. Its one of only two I think in the state and one of only a few in the nation that is specialized in newborn and baby transport. Anyway, my ambulance company gives me a call for a set of brake pads, front and rear, on a Ford E450, no big deal, they've got five of them, and an…

Automotive News January 7, 2008 - 12:01 am ET Isn't this a wonderful time of year? Although the holidays are over and spring is still a long way off, there's a natural exuberance in the air. It's bowl time. And even though the Bowl Championship Series determines the official No. 1 college football team in the nation, frenzied fans of every winning team — sporting body paint, donning ill-fitting clothing in their school colors and shouting "We're number one, we're number one!" — can't resist the urge to make exaggerated claims and boast a little. It's like that in the auto industry, too. Bragging rights are important to car guys and their fans. There have bee…

LAS VEGAS - Japanese electronics conglomerate Matsu$h!a Electric Industrial on Monday introduced a 150-inch plasma television, which it says is the world's biggest. I received permission to share this e-mail with all of you regarding the de-camo-ization of the New Camaro mules: Good morning, Camaro Comrades and Firebird Friends! As most of you know, the past couple of weeks has seen several unauthorized photos of the Camaro -- both interior and exterior -- leaked to the public. Frankly, they've caught us by surprise. Unauthorized photos are, invariably, taken quickly without much thought - and as a result -- are not very flattering. Since then, our Vice Chairman, Bob Lutz has ordered that we remove all the cammo off of the mules and early builds...and in fact our General Manager -- Ed Peper is encouraging you to acti…

Link: Fake Craigs List Ad-- "Men hungry for sex besieged a Brooklyn woman with phone calls after spotting a bogus ad on Craigslist that said she was looking to turn tricks to pay off Christmas debt The callers were responding to the racy ad, which read: "I'm a real hottie looking to earn extra cash to pay off Christmas debt." The data entry specialist had to change her phone number. "I don't want to constantly look over my shoulder," she said. O'Malley said she was further peeved when Craigslist would not help her locate the pervert." -- Theres lots of dirty stuff on the internet but I think this ranks right up there.

Okay, i know its a odd subject that could get really opinionated, but lets be civil. The other day back at work we got into discussing the after life, me being skeptical about everything, i stood back and listened. I'm religious in the fact that i hope theres a heaven but i really don't know. I guess most people believe in a heaven and hell. however some believe in that once you die you wander here just not in a body and others believe in reincarnation. After my old house and the crazy $h! that went on there i kinda think i believe in ghosts and things but i guess we cant truly grasp on that concept or ever will be able to understand it, but what if ev…
