Report: Volvo moves away from 'premium' image by Dan Roth (RSS feed) on Nov 29th 2010 at 2:27PM Volvo should no longer be lumped into the premium category, according to the wishes of CEO Stefan Jacoby. It's not that the cars aren't good, but according to Autocar, Jacoby thinks it sends the wrong message. "It sounds like a pricing strategy, and it's got an expensive ring to it," he tells the UK pub. Having recently come to Volvo from a tenure as CEO of Volkswagen's American operation, Jacoby has no illusions about where his new brand sits. This latest statement dovetails with an earlier assertion of his that it's too early for Volvo to consider gunning for the BMW 7 Se…

The only difference is that Volvo insists it won’t be rushing into anything. With fears of another flop like the Phaeton, f…

Rumormill: Volvo readying five-door hatchback to boost brand's overall sales by Jonathon Ramsey (RSS feed) on Oct 18th 2010 at 8:59AM Volvo CEO Stefan Jacoby wants to move 800,000 vehicles across the globe per year by 2020, which would more than double last year's sales tally of 350,000 and signal a reversal of sales declines. Jacoby expects about 250,000 of those additional sales to come from its integration into the Chinese market, but the remaining difference will be made up by entering new segments, sharpening the brand's focus and becoming a true luxury brand, not just premium. It shouldn't be any surprise that the ex-Volkswagen USA head would have in mind a Golf-…

While Volvo has yet to offer up all the details of what's in store for 2012, a document from the Volvo Overseas Delivery program managed to make its way online, and it le…

Volvo ponders adding 2 small vehicles By DIANA T. KURYLKO, AUTOMOTIVE NEWS The redesigned Volvo S60 targets luxury import sedans. Among the first product moves that Volvo is considering as it adapts to new management is the addition of a small sedan that targets BMW's 1 series and a compact crossover to go up against the BMW X1. The sedan would be smaller than the S40, said Doug Speck, CEO of Volvo Cars of North America. The S40 will be phased out in the next two years because it is regarded as too close in size to the redesigned S60 sedan. "We need enough gap in size to justify small and large vehicles," Speck said at the press launch of Volvo's new-generation S60. …
