Just watched the movie Crash today on 'OnDemand'. Anyone else seen it? Waht did you think? I think every person in America should see that movie at least once. The only thing I did not like about it (minor complaint) is it had a very subtle anti-gun overtone.

"Sporty" describes looks. "Sporting" is what performance, personality, engineering and such... "Large mid-size" is an oxymoron....if it's a big car, it's a big car...if it's mid-size, it's mid-size. Add on at your leisure....

We who post here, we're red-blooded CAR fans...we like performance, we like being low to the ground...they're simply more interesting, more fun, and they just do it for us.... In the beginning, SUVs were called 4x4s, and were only made by six companies: Jeep Land Rover Toyota (Land Cruiser has to be one of the greatest inventions) Chevy/GMC Ford Dodge Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Mercedes came in with their entries in the late 70s and early 80s...they all were rugged, real off-roading machines that knew their role, and left all of that trying to be the best peoplemover and citymobile crap to cars, the way mature intended. Then, two ugly things happened: Suzuk…

Last night as I was sitting alone and pitiful, enjoying my dinner at a local spot, in walks a pair of folks that made me stare a bit: a little, gray haired with glasses skinflint, 5'2" white dude in his late 50's, with a 5'10" black girl in her 30's, with a Supremes hairdo. Made the rest of the room look boring. Does anyone else enjoy the sport of "people watching"?

Nothing worse than just settling down into bed after drinking all night to hear a tinny, mechanical voice out in the hallway, ear-piercing sirens, and be blinded by flashing lights at 3 AM. God I hate false fire alarms.

....make me say "WTF?" As I'm watching them now, they're currently "pimping" an 80s Toyota van. So far they've painted the exterior with a blue fade....with orange flames. On the interior, they've installed two dog bowls (the owner carries around dogs) with a TV for the dogs to watch...ok. Plus, they've done the panels and seats in an ugly gray and blue scheme. But then, what do I expect? They rarely do up a car tastefully. <_<

Driver goes 3 miles with lodged body A motorist hits a pedestrian on 34th Street, then drives to the Sunshine Skyway with the victim stuck in the windshield. The St Petersburg Times By CRAIG PITTMAN, Staff Writer Published October 20, 2005 St. Petersburg Times ST. PETERSBURG - A 93-year-old motorist struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday evening, then drove about 3 miles with the body lodged in the windshield until he was stopped at a Sunshine Skyway tollbooth. The driver told officers he thought the body had fallen from the sky, said St. Petersburg police Officer Mike Jockers. "He had no idea he had been involved in an accident," Jockers said. "He d…

I noticed the gap between the driver's front door and front fender is 3 4/9 millimeters wider than the gap between the passenger's front door and front fender. Also, I vacuumed out under the dash and notice the plastic panel between the firewall and back of the center stack isn't soft. Its hard. Also, when I turned the key in the ignition, I heard a very disconcerting sound coming from the front of the car. It was some sort of growling, like some sort of machinery was there. And when I started accelerating, the noise grew louder! I think I'm going to buy a Lexus. :P :CG_all:

Cadillac: one of the coolest brands in all of automotive history... certainly my favorite luxury brand hands down. Sure I love BMW and have the utmost respect for Deusenbergs, Bugattis, Packards, Auburns and Pierce Arrows... I even like certain M.B.s and Lincolns but in the end Cadillac is my favorite by a far. New Samsung BLADE Phone For Sprint

This phone destroys the RAZR in every way imaginable. We knew it would happen sooner or later, and it looks like the FCC has just approved Samsung’s SCH-V740, or “Blade”, cellphone to be sold in the US as the SPH-A900. According to the FCC filing, this dual-band model will debut on the Sprint network, and will sport a swiveling camera, Bluetooth, external display with media buttons, and EVDO. As usual with these FCC docs, important info such as price and release date are unfortunately absent. http://cellphones.engadget.com/entry/1234000190064364/

eBay listing The highest bid reached just over $150,000, but the reserve wasn't met before it was pulled from the auction. "Final Objective" is a street legal 55 Chevy with a V12 1650ci Rolls Royce Merlin engine (the same type of engine used most of the P51 Mustang fighter aircraft). At 3000hp, it is in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most powerful street registered car. The car was built in Australia by Rod Hadfield of Castlemaine Rod Shop. It's been on a tour of the US, and it looks like he doesn't want to bother shipping it back to Australia.

The result will be different, mainly because of the black bars. I just need the know how, a new leftside, and some colored bulbs... Also, I thought this was an awesome photo... :D

On Lincoln Way in east Ames, a few stations are currently having some type of gas war. Right now, regular unleaded is $2.09 per gallon at the Citgo, Casey's, and Phillip's 66 all right by each other. About half a mile west is a BP where 87 is $2.48, and further west most stations are averaging $2.50. It's crazy...I filled up my car for less than $30 for the first time in months!

I put this particular animation together for another forum to because there was some debate about the possibility that the individual images were presented out of sequence. I figured that as my animation is being passed from forum to forum, I might as well let you guys see it. This happened very recently at a "Cruise" event at the local circuit race track. It was a "low speed" cruise event, so helmets weren't required, and the poorly installed 4 point seatbelts proved useless in a rollover. Fortunately there were no serious injuries. The passenger (on the left side ... the car is RHD) received grazes and needed stitches for a gash in her head from hitting the ro…

I am guilty of buying too many cars. In the past three years I have owned a 1999 Grand Am, 1993 GMC Sierra, 2003 Corolla, 1985 Grand Marquis and a 2005 Acura RSX. Looking at that I have wasted too much money on cars. I have the RSX and access to my fathers Sierra (which I am beginning to love) at the current time. I want to drop the RSX in favour of a new truck, but I am going to get raked over the coals. Is there a help clinic for people like me? The only other option is to work at a car dealer and get new demos every 8000 kms!

The BEP thread got me thinking about annoying songs. There are a lot of songs that I dislike because they suck or because they get overplayed or they just rub me the wrong way. But I really think Panda Panda Panda by Deerhoof is the most annoying song ever. It sounds like something a 5 year old would walk around singing.

The new Black Eyed Peas video, My Hump (seriously, that's the name) has some of the most godawful lyrics I've ever been subjected to: Those are some lovely lady lumps you have there dear...   The other thing that is very confusing about this video, is the used of a riced out Sonoma! You know the typical rap video where they rap and dance in front of a car in a white room? Usually it's an Escalade. Apparently the BEP can't afford that. ^_^

Very long list, I wont bother to copy it all over here. I will say this, some very very not good songs on it. Clicky for full list I have to admit, seeing Too Drunk to F*ck on any best songs lists is awesome, Hunger Strike should be higher than 471, Jump by Kriss Kross (seriously, wtf?) The list is bogus, complete crap, like four good songs on it. We should destroy Blender magazine. I mean come on, the list has the Macarena in the top 200.

I watched two eps of Overhaulin' tonight, and cars that both began with at least driver's side mirrors (68 LeMans and 70 Nova) were finished with no mirrors on either door! I don't see any evidence that Chip's thrown in cameras or anything, and not only will you get ticketed right off the road in this state for not having outside mirrors, but it's just creepy unsafe. It's simply more confidence inspiring to have all your mirrors. Is he just throwing them on later, or what's the deal?

My friend just bought a dark grey 2006 4.0l v6 5-speed Mustang. The shift knob top rotates fairly freely. I was taking it for a little drive, and tried to shift from first to second without fully gripping the shifter - I just sort of put my hand on the top right side like I do in the Cobalt. This should work since you're pulling it down and left to go to 2nd. However, the knob rotated a full 180, and my hand slipped off the shifter. Nothing bad happened from this - I just thought I should relate what is wrong. He said he's taken it in to the dealer to ask about it, and they said it's supposed to rotate, to "accomodate different grip styles". It'…

Is it 1973 because of the catalytic converters? Maybe 1977, with the beginning of the boxy styling craze (including rectangular headlights)? Is it somewhere in the 80s, with the switch to fuel injection and the death of chrome bumpers? Or is it the 90s, when all these transitions were complete and every car was officially "computerized" (with more crapola to come)? Can the cutoff year slide into more recent years? Or did one prick just say "it stops at the 50s!" and it just is what it is and will be for all time?

Wow, I was just sitting here thinking. The last time I was car payment-free was for a few months in 1998. I had my '94 S-10 paid off for a few months before I bought my first '98 Bug. Once in a while I get a wild hair and think of dumping my newer vehicle and buying something I could just purchase outright... no payments. That's $324 per month, plus the savings in changing unsurance coverages, that could be used for something else. But, there are so many cool new toys out there now. Such is life, I guess, when you're obsessed with vehicles like I am. They make me irrational! Does anyone else here feel the same?

I want everyone to sound off here, but this post is inspired by the fact that the Chevelle name will not work in this millenium. Leave it in the 60s and 70s, where it belongs.... That goes for Bel Air as well....kinda flighty for a Chevy, not to mention the fact that it screams 50s. And there should be no more Broughams or Landaus either. At Nissan, I think the Sentra name should die with this current generation...I'd switch to Pulsar, a name that's a lot racier. Out in Japan, I'd kill their trend of getting too Japanese with the names like Fuga and Tiida...I didn't see anything wrong with Laurel, Cedric, or Gloria (even though that name belongs to Pr…

It was finally a nice day here today, so I decided to tackle a couple of small projects. I am soon getting a new door on the front of my house installed by others. I also have a side entrance door out of my garage and I wanted it to match the new front door, so I painted it from dark blue to white, added a new lockset and deadbolt, and put up a new motion-sensing light fixture above it. It looks nice and I'm proud of myself, but it took me freakin' forever. So, how handy are you guys with a hammer?

So, I notice yesterday that I'm driving one of those crapbox Lincolns with the busted air shocks. The air shock on the right rear strut finally gave out, so I felt like my Olds was riding on just the springs as that part of the car rebounded jarringly after hitting any small deviation in the road surface. I take it to my buddies at Goodyear/Gemini and they run it up on the perch for me. Yup. Its the shock. Not only that, but the left rear is leaking. Not covered under my ValueGuard (of course) and they quoted me a price of $249 for a set of shocks, labor, tax, etc. I decided to just do it myself and enlist my father to help me (worked out the other way around :P ). I took my car to an oil change at a PBG dealer in Waterloo today. It was my first time there, since my usual Chevy dealer's fully booked. OK. I had to do a tire rotation, oil and lube, and a 15-point. They told me to check the air filter as well. So I figured, I got my car for 3 years, why not. At the end, they told me I needed a new air filter, so I said go ahead. Then they told me the oil plug was damaged as well, they couldn't screw it back on, and they want 8 bucks from me for a new one. I told them I had warranty, and they told me it's not covered. OK fine, I paid them 8 bucks to put on a new one. I thought something doesn't seem right. I asked the…

After reinstalling the operating system, everything else is in good order, except for the printer, which takes forever to print a document. What should be done about this, because before the reinstall, it would print promptly after the command was given.

I'm like  I guess I'd offer, but that might be a real hard sell to the wife... Man, gotta love the crazy people on here... :P :) (sorry-forgot to add they were g/f pics..So no one thinks I'm crazy... ^_^ )

A year ago today I was in Missouri and Kansas at the beginning of my western road trip; 2 months ago, I was in Pennsylvania in the middle of my eastern road trip. Both trips seem like they happened just yesterday ... and a lifetime ago. I learned quite a bit in those trips ... enjoying the company of new and old friends along the way. A "snapshot" of some of the things that I discovered during those trips.... Missouri & Kansas are not _that_ boring to drive through.... Colorado is absolutely gorgeous. Wyoming has beautiful formations. Utah has breathtaking views...even in rain with a rainbow for good measure. New Mexico does have rust-free …

I'm using Firefox. I have up-to-date Windows Media Player, Quicktime, RealPlayer, Java, and Shockwave. It's a brand new computer. When I try to watch a video on the internet, it tells me to install a "missing" plug-in. I ask it to find the plug-in and it says I have all the plug-ins I need, but the video doesn't play. Uhh.. wtf?!

I traveled to Oshawa, Ontario yesterday with Polish Kris. We cruised around the W body facilities and GM Canada Headquarters. The place is massive. There are overflow lots filled with Impalas and Monte Carlos as far as the eye can see. The trains pull up, and the cars are loaded for shipping. At one corner, we saw GM employees drive a virtual parade of Impala SS' fresh from the factory, straight to the shipping yard. They floored them pretty good too. We spotted some interesting stuff. There appears to be a running change to the Pontiac Solstice. The split foglights are gone, replaced by turn signal units as seen on the Grand Prix GXP. No big deal as they a…

My tribute to the 97-03 Grand Prix... Arguably one of Pontiac's best looking, ever. First, the concept that started it all... The GPX 300. The GPX pace car. Now... Regular GPs. Oh... Burnout! :D

During a recent taping of "Street Tuner Challenge", a mildy modified Cobalt SS pounds a Nissan Skyline, as well as a nitrous snorting Jetta. All cars were clearly at the limits of tire adhesion, as the little Cobalt had the best lap by more than seven full seconds. Too bad so sad. It was at Buttonwillow Raceway park, and it's coming up on Speedvision...Watch it if you like that sort of thing. :P no joke.

Show Your House! :D I figured since we've shown our faces, our cars, and are close enough to be open with each other... There isn't any reason why we can't show the place that we eat and sleep in. Right? Here's my pathetic house:

I'll never forget the reaction my mom had when I showed her all of these... What's interesting is that my Grand Am got a 5 star rating for driver frontal. Never knew that. The newer GA only got 4. Ironic. I don't know what the Blazer got... but from the looks of it... I'd guess 2 stars. Jeeesh... I can't believe they even let Chevy sell those death traps. :D

Today, I was stuck in traffic, like the kind where you can shut your car off, I think there was a person killed in an accident. Thats not the point though. I was bored so I started to read the Owners Manual and I found this Quote " If steam or smoke is coming out of your hood DO NOT touch any thing because it could cause injury or severe burns". No shit Scherlock. Also that "Do not install any Electronic Devices as they may cause your Chevrolet to malfunction and cause a acciedent which can result in injury and or Death." Listen Ricers that aftermarket light bulb can cause your car to malfunction!! Do you find anything that is so retarted o…

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9662037/ I thought GM was the leader in hybrid buses, but now in one order DCX will almost match the number of hybrid city buses GM has sold. Anyone know more about this deal? What made them go with the DCX buses as opposed to the GM buses?

By: Alistair Weaver Date Posted 10-10-2005 BMW and Mercedes-Benz are at war again, and the stakes could not be higher. This is not simply a matter of 7 Series versus S-Class or SLK against Z4. This is a struggle for the future direction of the automobile. Inside Line asked senior figures from Mercedes and BMW to outline their companies' visions of the future, and while they agree on some issues, there are also some startling and fundamental differences of opinion. Munich is represented by Professor Raymond Freymann. As the managing director of BMW's Research and Technology division, he is responsible for "translating crazy ideas into reality." His…

How many of these car company logos can you identify? TIP: Most of these aren't very hard, but there are a couple tough ones. Spelling counts. On my first attempt, I got all but two correct (I also had two others that were not spelled correctly). http://www.logogame.com/game.php?id=12

Start your engines! I'd like to introduce the newest member of my Fleet: 1983 Volvo 240 auto with about 240K miles. Purchased last Sat. for $100. Title and all. It's a clean old beast from the last year of Emissions exemption and other than a few minor things it's a great car. You've probably already guessed by now this poor old dog is going to end up at the 2005 Halloween Howler Demolition Derby & Endurance Race. Boo-Yeah! :metal: I had taken a look at several cars out of the Want Advertiser. I love that magazine. Awsome classified ads. Kick ass prices. I had like 7 cars lined up and went to take a look at a few. In the end Both Grand…
