I'm thnking of cars that were once ubiquitous on American roads but now are little remembered, let alone seen. Think of this as an older car version of the "cars that have gone missing thread". The cars that have gone missing long enough to be generally forgotten. Chevy Monza Ford Torino Ford LTD VW Thing Have at it!

Ok, the reverse lights on my Crapalier don't work. And since they are BOTH out, chances are its not a light bulb issue, so that leads to electrical. I don't think the fuse is blown as the fuse I pulled that was marked for reverse lamps was also powering something else that DID work. It was suggested by Valvoline mechanic that it may be something in the shifter lever, as I drive a manual. Anyone have any idea? I'm not TOO worried about it, as I live in the city and the streets and parking lots are lit fairly well, but I'd like to get this fixed because I don't like to have anything on my car NOT working.

I had a houseful for Christmas.. . . so many that I escaped to the computer room and locked the door. Family is nice and all, but too much is too much. My aunt and uncle came in town. They are staunch republicans from Illinois, and while I don't hold that against them they do not like the gay folks. I opened my home to them thinking they would be respectful to me, my children, and everyone else. I was wrong. I was treated disrespectfully on numerous occasions and in front of others. My kids were called bastard children and I was accused of populating the world with maladjusted children. While I do not mind others to have an opinion about certain aspects of our soc…

While I was out working today, Arkus pulled his Houdini act and got out of his crate. There was a terrible dogfight, and now I have two injured dogs. Zora really got the worst of it. Now I have to decide which one will be leaving, and figure out how the hell I'm going to make that happen. F'ing hell!

I haven't started many threads here, although I've been lurking around for 18 months or so. But something happened two days ago that I have been stewing about since. I have been selling Chevrolet for 9 years. Shortly after I started at the store I am at now, we got a new (to us) New Car Manager. This man was nearing retirement age and had been in the buisness, started as a mechanic, then in sales at a Cadillac store, for 30 years. He emigrated from Scotland with nothing and by the time of his death about 2 years ago was worth a few milliion, to be sure. This sales manager was with us for about 5 years and was the best manager I have ever met. He was honest, hard wo…

As of August 28th, 2006, I have a vehicle. No more borrowing this car or that car. I mentioned this in another thread. Here's what I said. Well, I bothered to ask today about it and the truck is mine for certain. He's never asking for it back. I can't say I blame him. Before I start getting into why I just said that, let me go around describing the truck first. The Indigo Blue Metalliac 1998 Chevrolet S10 LS regular cab with the 2.2 liter four and 5-speed manual I've been handed has the mid-level gray cloth upholstery and a CD player. The truck is equipped similar to 1999's Survival Pak S10s, although this truck doesn't have it. Now, I won't start making a long par…

Is BEAUTIFUL! Standing in the God awful lines for the shuttle back to my house was terrible but I made many, many new friends. Furthermore...the people asking "Wow...is THAT an Escalade?" and the "That Chevy is nice hunnie what is it?" that the DPD were cruising the streets in was pretty remarkable. The city looked great and the Sprint Stage was THE happening place to be. Such a great time down in Detroit and the Big 2 and a half really did A LOT to impress.

In honor of my 1969 Pontiac turning 38 today, I am using this sig for 1 week in celebration. The Custom-S was built 6/13/69, and yes that was Friday the 13th. Muhahahahahaha She was bought by my father at Jim Harrell Pontiac, 3800 W Hillsborough Ave, Tampa, FL 33614 six weeks later for 3K loaded, today she is priceless to me. She has a 350 engine with an Automatic trans. I may be burried in her when that time comes. Don't you all smile at once! Happy Birthday, to my 1st car, which is still with me today!

Not a good way to end the week, this. On Friday I was on my way home from picking up some lunch before I had to go to work. Car up ahead was stopped waiting to turn left. I stopped and a Neon behind me stopped. Some ass clown in a Mountaineer didn't notice and ran right into the neon, which ran into me. The neon apparently kept rolling until it came to rest across the street half way on the sidewalk. A mix of disbelief and extreme anger overcame me. The only thing I said to in the direction of the Mountaineer driver was "What the f*ck?! You hit my f*cking car!" Called the police, home, and work, and stayed by the car. if I had gone over to the Mountaineer owner i would…

This is pretty short. As many now know, I just sold my own '95 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham and bought an '08 G6 coupe. This is in addition to mom's '08 Malibu as the 2 new cars of the house. That leaves my brother with his '86 Regal LTD he won't even fathom getting rid of, and dad with both his '92 Roadmaster LTD daily driver and '93 Fleetwood Brougham "spare". As mom went smaller & fuel efficient, and I did the same plus extra cool & fun with the coupe, dad has been searching classifieds DAILY for months trying to find something smaller and more efficient that's also practical to be his beater. Effectively, he thinks, replacing the Fleetwood that just sits …

With many four-cylinder cars now making really big power, and V6s having mpg like V8s without the power, couldn't the automakers dispense with many of the V6 applications? Might that not create an efficiency situation that would allow for V8 cars to fit more easily under the new CAFE regs while keeping the formerly V6-powered cars at similar power levels while dramatically increasing the CAFE numbers? Just a thought.

So I went to Lowell Used Auto today, initially planning to buy an antenna for the Prizm, But as we all know, you never just get one thing at the junkyard I wandered around the main lot for a while...it's where everything besides GM cars are put (as well as new arrivals). I saw 4 Intrepids there, which made me sad. 2 were wrecked, one of them had no engine, and the other actually looked ok...but I couldn't get at it...probably a dead 2.7L. There was a row of 3 previous gen Caravans. Now, I like looking around and seeing if any of the vehicles will still turn over or light up. Sure enough, the last one I looked at (which had been repainted red from its original blue start…

I mentioned in another post that while online 'window shopping' for newer-but-gently-used GMC Sierra pickup trucks the other day, I ran across a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Z71/4WD Crew Cab with a tad under 20k miles and appears to be in pristine condition for under $22k (GM Certified Pricing). A few e-mail exchanges between the Internet Sales Manager and I and now I'm planning to see & test-drive the truck in person on Friday (12/26). If they can get me out of my GMAC SmartLease (AURA XE) without any penalities, I may just bite. But before I do, what particulars should I be looking for? The truck was originally sold by this dealership and was maintenanced by them to…

So here is what I'm thinking I might do for a project sometime in the future, hopefully the near future. 1996 Chevrolet Camaro, bad engine, $700. Then I take out the engine, transmission, etc., and drop in a diesel, preferably a Duramax from a wrecked Chevrolet or GMC HD truck (isn't there a six cylinder version used in commercial-grade trucks, too?). I wonder what sort of manual transmission would work with the Duramax, or if all of this would even fit in a Camaro? Hmmm ...

So the deal is I finally want to make a website for...uhmmm.....whatever this is that I'm doing as a career lately. Only every front door design I've come up with....well....sucks. So here is what you'd be designing. Basically all I need is a front door for "Chris Doane Automotive." I dont have a logo or anything yet. I'd also need some kind of buttons (or some design element) linking off the front door to pages for "Prototype Spy Photography," "Automotive Product Photography" and "Future Product Information." As for tech specs...I assume anyone doing this will have Photoshop. Please keep all the design elements in seperate layers so I can adjust them afterwards if I wa…

Well, since the crash I knew I was going to need to get a new car, its inevitable. Since the crash I've been driving around in a less than perfect 1992 Honda Accord LX 2-door 5-speed. I figured that as long as I had it I wouldn't need to make a rash decision on a new car and I'd be able to save some money up, put some money towards baby-related stuff and get my finances in order before deciding on how much and what I want. Well, last night the Accord lost second gear (it just grinds when I try to put it in second, makes driving interesting) and I dont have high hopes for the rest of the car. So I figured that I would take suggestions/comments from the peanut gallery b…

I loaded up on THREE night classes (9 semester credits) and should wrap up this degree in mid-May. Last night was my last mid-term. Kind of tough, actually. So, now it's time to go away. I leave for Las Vegas on Sunday (should be toasty) and then for LA on Wednesday, triangulating back up next Saturday. Booked a while ago so I got real cheap fares (each leg under $ 100). I am itching for some poolside r & r and sunshine. How about those of you celebrating Spring Break? Any plans?

Guy out driving his 20 hour old Camaro SS gets rear ended by a punk teenager with no insurance or driver's license. http://jalopnik.com/5247902/this-is-what-a...o-ss-looks-like After learning what a totaled Dodge Challenger looks like, we've now seen what a totaled Camaro SS looks like. Better still, it was only 20 hours old! Ouchgasmic gallery below. Bye, Bye Mr. Camaro According to Camaro5, this brand spankin' new Camaro SS was reduced to a pile of scrap by an uninsured and unlicensed teenager ridin' dirty in a Ford Escape. We're not sure about the owner, but we would have kicked this kid's ass. Twice, for good measure. (Hat Tip To Cameron!) [via Camaro5]

What a lovely day in the village of Ramsaytown it is, today. Snow storm. Electical short. Limited heat. No water. No car. That's what I'm experiencing at my house right now. Starting last night around midnight, we recieved a snow storm. It was enough for Brookville to cancel school today. There's about 6" of new snow over the few inches we already had. My mom's Blazer had trouble making it out the driveway this morning. It's very cold as well. Earlier last night, a wire shorted out somewhere in our house. The entire second story as well as the ceiling lights on the first story and a few other things are now out. It has happened before, but it was …

I'm thinking about putting vanity plates on my Camaros ('68 SS & '73 Z28/RS) but I can't think of anything really cool. Anybody have any ideas? EDIT: Basic specs: The '68 is a 350 4-speed car that is/will be more of a "classic" cruiser. The '73 houses a 406 with a Turbo350 transmission and is/will be more of a "custom" car. Neither will be too wild though, the plates will be NC plates which means 8 letters or less. A few pics:

Basically, this is a spinoff of the car spotting thread. Whereas in it, we include the newest vehicles going on sale that we've started to see, here we talk about vehicles that we've only seen a few of over our lifetime. These are posted in the normal car spotting thread, too, but are generally overlooked. And since they can sometimes be interesting, I think they deserve their own thread. My rare cars are a white Triumph TR7, I actually had to look it up when I saw it, I didn't know what it was. I've seen one red Ferrari 360 Modena heading down the historic district here in Lexington. Two Bentley Continental GTs. Domestics would include the last gen Olds Torona…

I'm probably about to make two stupid moves before going into college, one of them being me buying a brand-new twenty-one thousand dollar Camaro. Well, chances are I'm going to make another stupid move on top of that. Meet the two cars that qualify for my second mistake. 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, 327 V8: 1967 Pontiac Firebird, 350 V8: The cost of both cars are $4,500. Both cars are roughly in the same shape: mild amounts of rust, the floorboards rotting away to nothing (as you can see in the second-to-last pics in both sets), but I know the Camaro's 327 runs pretty well and could make for a better daily driver during restoratio…

With all the talk about the big cars, rwd, and other stuff-I thought it was time for a bit of a change. As much as I would like a G8 or Camaro and I do love RWD (old school and now)-it is unlikely that I will going to be able to afford one for a while... What is more likely is that I'll be driving a compact...a car that offers good gas milage, and a car that I can afford. And I would love to have one of the cars on my wish list.... I could see an Astra or Vibe in the future...... And am I the only one thinking small? Ocn is shopping between an Astra or a HHR ( SS, LT) Loves his truck-but would like to save some money too..... I'm in LA LA land for the weekend. Planned it (bought a ticket) a long time ago not knowing I would be here last month for the AIA convention. But that's ok, the convention didn't leave much time for So Cal "hanging out." Probably road trip here and there on each of the different days and see a college friend in San Diego on Monday. I'm about to go back to the rental car agency to swap out my Impala for something else. No "June gloom" in the AM which means the day will tend toward the hot. What are C&G-ers doing on the 4th?

Okay, I know I'm going to get hammered, but I'm going to ask anyways.... First point- Wife has decided to keep her Cav. Does not want a new car. Surprised me, but wants to start saving more money for other stuff. Which is fine, so I'll just update the Cavalier (new ATF/Dex Shocks/struts) since it's pretty good shape for a nearly 7 year old car... Which brings to to my next point- I'd like to get a cheap SUV for the family, like for hauling stuff around, taking trips up north, so things like that. I only need two things-dependible and cheap ( and rust free). There's a good chance this thing will get upgraded anyways. Here's the trouble: Chevy Blazer. Why, you say? …

C&D recently did a test on the rarest of 911's. Not a GTx, or "Insert Random Special Edition Here", or even the new R. No, the rarest 911 of all is a stripper model. A near-base, non-S C2 w/ a 7MT. My son was getting extremely rambunctious (probably the first 2.5 year old to ever be that way) so I pulled out his gigantic Hot Wheels collection. Barely a peep out of him since, he's on the office floor playing with all the cars, occasionally making "Vroom, Vroom" noises. His favorites seem to be the Plymouth Prowler and BMW 850ci. Most of "his" Hot Wheels are my old ones, including what appears to have been a Citation hatchback that I de-roofed at some point.

Click 2007, Cars/Light Trucks 4. You can actually get in and see 2007 info! So far there isn't much though. 2007 Aveo, Terraza, CTS, and some others are up. Oh, and the current Silverado is renamed Silverado Classic. So I think there WILL be a 2007 Silverado.

Is it becoming a major PC hog for anyone else? After the last few updates it has become agonizingly slow. I find myself using Chrome a lot more often now. Ironically, one important site for me, Google Pages, doesn't render properly in Chrome, so I have to use Firefox for that.

A few months ago things got distant between Marcia & I. We have been together for almost SIX years, & more importantly are tied to each other permanantly through our three year old daughter Sofia. As of this past weekend she has decided to move on & wants to be with an old friend and ex. In some #@%$& up way as these things tend to happenat the exact same time one of my best friends ever whohappens to also be an ex had her heart broken. So I went from having a "separation" with Marcia to what is basically a divorce which made me absolutely miserable to falling back in love with someone that I ever really got over. My head is spinning, bu…

Bad News: Engine light on Cruze goes off for about the 7th time (not exaggerating) Good News: Seems to be running mostly OK. Decide to drive it to work and fix it in the morning. Bad News: Don't realize everything's iced over and fall down the front steps on the way out of my house, landing on my hip. Now I walk like an old man. Good News: Get to the dealership and they're very helpful and promise to look at it quickly as they're not busy. Bad News: More serious issues with this Cruze, the PCV valve needs replacement. Good News: This time, it's covered under warranty. (unlike the trottle body - how the F--- is that not powertrain?) Bad News: Parts are not readily av…

This is such a common thread across various forums that I thought could bring some extra discussion 'round these parts. The premise is simple and the title literally speaks for itself. So, as it says, what did you do to your car today? Me? I gave the Firebird a good detailing. Washed and waxed to its maximum shine for the all the mullets to embrace.

Interesting article from Hot Rod magazine in 2017. Nutshelled : drilled/slotted rotors are akin to fake hood scoops.

I know I'm getting ahead of things, but I can't help thinking about the next "toy" I'll get after the Hawk is gone. Station wagon, 2-door Tahoe, El Camino... I'd really like to find something interesting and low-buck, you know, guilt-free cool. I really want to pump up the fun-per-dollar factor this go round. It could be a get in and drive cruiser, a project, even a curiosity. I just want something I can enjoy without breaking the bank. And, I'd like to be able to haul the pups around in it without worrying about them trashing it.

Insane. April 16th and a Nor'easter with flooding rain and heavy wind and accumulating snow! Terrible here, raging wind , heavy slush on the roads, trees down everywhere, power failures, roads closed, transit lines down, state of emergency in NJ, flooded homes. Sheesh! When the wind and snow calm down, I'm going to have tons of cleanup to do. Hope the chainsaw starts. And I'm supposed to take the Maserati to a collecter car auction in two days? What's wrong with this picture?

I'm doing a relocation investigation trip right now to ATL and Florida. I made it a point to spend 3 days in the Panhandle on the Gulf. It's pointless to think about living there in terms of career and sophistication, because it offers not much else than a stunning seashore. Now, if I didn't have to work.... In the U.S., I'd live somewhere on the water on the Gulf of Mexico near Pensacola FL In Europe, I'd live in a small coastal village in Northern Portugal What about other C&G-ers, if work and school and other obligations weren't a concern?

I've got an issue going on at work. Our receptionist who has NO life has, for the 3rd time, opened my mail. Sometimes, I have stuff sent to the office (care of) because I don't want to run to the UPS or FedEx station when I can't be reached at home during the day. The first time it was a private letter from an attorney. (She once opened this lady's divorce papers from an attorney that were sent to the office). The second time was a locker bag I had ordered on line. (It was obvious it was luggage I ordered). The third time was last week when school books arrived from Barnes and Noble for which I don't want people to know I am taking classes at night. She has 2 di…

I'd like to ask you guys if you know of a way we can can get a straight deal from a dealership for our next visit. Is there a way we can get what we want from the start of the deal? Is there any kind of research we can do? If you have a tip, post it here. Thanks guys.

See the topic title; here are the pictures to reference the trailer in question: I have an idea what it was used for after doing some "brief" Internet research, but I'm not 100% positive that I'm correct. Seeing as how there's a ton of informative people here at C&G, I'd thought I'd post this question.

So... It snowed today. The roads weren't all that bad, atleast around Brookville anyways. I thought I'd go to town and pick up a few things, which I did. No problems what-so-ever, even with my near bald tires. After that I went to my grandparents to read the paper and chat and whatnot. Just the usual when I'm in Brookville. After 45 minutes or so, I leave. As I walk to my car. I look towards the road in the distance, it sounds like something is going on. I thought I heard girls screaming. I didn't know what to think, but I got in, pulled out the driveway, and headed home which happened to be in the that direction. Traffic is stopping and I slowly pull up to the car in fro…

Tonight, I went to Barnes and Noble's cafe' where I study. Yeah, I know, I'm boring. I know the girls who work there and when I was in Montreal for 1 week and came back to town, they asked me "Where have you been?" They told me they notice it when "the regulars" aren't around for a while. At any rate, we started talking about who "the regulars" were and they told me as such. They also told me "the regulars" all have nicknames ...and that we all have quirks! I asked them what mine was. They told me it was "Tea Guy" because I always order tea and it has to be in a mug, not paper. I busted up. Then they told me some other nicknames for other patrons...some were NO…

I love most food. I don't like the following: Any meat you have to work (ribs) or that is too red, but love tri-tip, sirloin and London Broil, for example Any fish you have to work (mussels, clams, crab), but love swordfish, halibut, and shark, for example Hate pecan pie Can't tolerate any spicy cuisines like Thai, Indian or Ethiopian - guaranteed to be "out of commission" in 2 hours, but like Cantonese Chinese and Japanese What are specific food items or cuisines you won't eat?

A big "no thanks" for me. I thought it was ok for people who needed it to survive. It has now become a sport. I couldn't imagine felling a large animal...though if a moose was headed my way, I wouldn't think twice about pulling the trigger in self defense (I got real close to one on a Canadian Highway near Banff in 2003). There are some people I work with who do it. They don't seem to do it in the Sierra Nevada or in California. They tend to go to Montana or other more remote states. Not for me. Falling asleep on a warm beach on the Mediterranean: now you're talking.

I have a neighbor who just made an automotive purchase that made me stop and think. He bought a late 70s/early 80s VW Rabbit. But not just any Rabbit, a Rabbit diesel. The car itself is in very good shape since it came from the southwest, but that isn't the kicker. The kicker is the mileage he's getting with this thing. 52 MPG Even better, he brews his own bio-diesel at a cost of .47/gal. Somehow, I think the rest of us lost something along the way from the late 70s to 2011. Made me stop and think.

Hey guys I just wanted to post a thread on here and say a big "hi" to all my C&G friends! Sorry I have been away for so long but perhaps this is a good time to update everyone on what's been happening to me...... After basically going thru a ton of $h! (who hasn't these last few years), just trying to keep any sort of job after Flex Fund closed down (the auto finance company I was working for) I went to Las Vegas for about 8 months and worked at the Cadillac store there then came back to Southern California in December of 2009. I guess I should change my name to "The L.A." lol because I moved from Orange County up to L.A. to work at Audi of Santa Monica. Found m…

...at my high school reunion tonight at The Jetty in Stevensville, MD, but I chickened out because an old friend kept saying how much she REALLY wanted to see me after 27 years. She's a widow, she married a guy right out of school. We kind of had a "thing" back then, but I "gave" her to the other guy. I took the easy way out. Was it right?

C&D is just making these too easy, and this one I think is a lot of fun. They just did a test of the Evo Final Edition, the send off for the legendary Evo. Here's the story- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2015-mitsubishi-lancer-evolution-final-edition-test-review- for those interested. Base price and as-tested were the same at $38,805. So, as always, you have within 10% of that price in either direction to play with. You MUST spend at least $34,925, but no more than $42,685. Since the Evo is a pretty focused sport model, I'll allow a little deviation from the normal rules and let 2 door sport coupes be fair game here, AS LONG AS THEY ARE STREETABLE. That said…

Couldn't think of an appropriate name for the thread, but what type of cars did you absolutely hate before that you've warmed up to now? For example, I've never liked Hummers and always thought the H3 was a miniature H2 and ugly as sin. However, I now think the H3 is more appropriate in the everyday setting and more mature looking than the H2; I like it. List some vehicles you didn't like before that you do now.. this could be interesting (especially if you're an offender of liking the xA, xB, Fit, etc.).

...absolutely knows his $h! when it comes to subjects relating to Cobalts and/or forced induction. He's a local and is one of the first guys to turn his '05 SS/SC into a turbocharged car. He also got another guy on the local Cobalt/Ecotec board to turn his SS/SC turbo (in the process being finished up right now). He really does know his stuff and does his own researching on all this. Well the other night I had a dream. Here, I'll quote what I posted on that other board: After posting that, he told me that he's thought many times about getting rid of his turbo and swapping in a twin setup. He's done all the research and knows exactly what he would…

Camaro Crucifixion, Take Three: The Chromaro Proves Chrome Is Forever by black-knight, C&G Editor/Reporter 16th, May, 2011 The onslaught of Camaro-focused brutality refuses to let off of the throttle, leaving the bowtie pony car to continue to suffer for the sins of car customization. Last week we brought you a prematurely ragged out fifth-generation Camaro and Trans Am Depot's Ponmaro GTO thing. This week, a couple of crazy Czechoslovakian dudes have decided to wrap a -- you guessed right -- fifth-generation Camaro completely in chrome, which if you didn't know, is to a man what diamonds are to a woman and both are forever. Instead of some humble photos…
