So my grandpa had an old model when I was a kid that I always liked, but I never knew what I was, only that it was a very old car, Pre-WWII. Well, lately, I've inherited it so to speak (he's been gone since '99 or so). I've been trying to find out what it was but I never had anything to go on, and I know precious little about prewar automobiles. It's a very old car certainly, I would guess around 1915, seeing as that was the year he was born. It's missing it's radiator cap, so if it had a car mascot, there's no way I could have known; but there is an emblem on the radiator housing/grille that has a red R inside a rectangle. Because of this, we thought it could have been …

Ok, no that I have high speed, my next goal is to really start backing things up. I'm looking for a cheap PHD to back my pictures, and a few documents. Most I've seen are well over 100 bucks....I just want a simple one, nothing fancy. 250 GB one would be fine for now.... (and yes, I have things backed now, mostly on flash drives though...)

Topless Model! Yep, right now The Car Connection is featuring a topless model on their front page...a Rolls-Royce convertible prototype. (Admit it. How many of you held out a little hope?) The car looks to be in the vein of the 100EX concept, basically a Phantom convertible which Roller stated they had no plans to build. Also featured are blurbs on hybrid incentives, more Ford buyouts and the status of Delphi-IAE talks. Read The Car Connection's Daily Edition for April 27, 2006

* Anyone else love looking at old newspaper classifieds…? Have a few more from 1970s Des Moines IA newspapers to feature in the coming weeks! http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/04/27/memory-monday-15/ A favorite part (among many) of my Route 66 road trip, September 2009, was spotting murals & cars. This was a great combo … with a Baxter Springs MO mural & a 1987 El Camino appearing in the pic I took! http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/04/28/tuesday-trip-15/ Speaking of road trips, a cousin & I are planning a day road trip this Saturday, 05/02/2015, down to Staunton IL (from Chicagoland); forecasted weather should be perfect…. Sixty8, you should know what I found, a 1981 Chrysler Imperial Frank Sinatra Edition. It is located in New York and is on Ebay. I have already contacted the seller because I find this a nice and desirable car. For me it is a must have. Classy and there was 148 built in 81. So far it is at $800. I will see what the buyer says because I want to bring it back to Canada but I may have time to meet up with some members if I do. SHipping is too expensive so we would rent a U-Haul or borrow our friends flatbed to bring it over. Just depends if the buyer will sell it to Canadians. If not then I will be extremely mad because these are rare. It is such a good price too for what …

I come home today to find this in my driveway: Yeah...not the Amber Bronze '07 Impala LS my mom took to work this morning. It's a rental while the Venture is in the shop getting some collision damage repaired. The original plan was for mom to borrow my grandad's car (the Impala) while the van was getting worked on, but mom said the smoke smell in the car (grandad's a heavy smoker) was bothering her, so she called the at-fault driver's insurance to see if a rental would be covered. Begrudgingly, mom was told she would be reimbursed, and she promptly called the local Enterprise to request a minivan. They were out of minivans, so she upgraded to an SUV. So, what we've g…

This name has got to be a psudeonym. G.M. Ford? C'mon. A blind man picking out his favorite porno could tell that's fake. Strangely, I feel inclined to pick up one of this guy's novels. NOTE: If you're Buickman, the title of this book and the author's name has a sick twist of irony.

So yup I was behind a mighty tall, spotless black, '02-ish Silverado crew cab with a finned aluminum differential cover and crooked dual exhaust pipes out the back. As we approached an intersection, the road divided into two lanes at the stop light. I went into the left lane, pulled up next to the truck and yelled out to the driver "hey, your left one is hanging a little low." He said "Wut?", kinda nodded toward the back of the truck and said "Oh, thanks." At which point I drove off. Last week I ran up and told the girl in front of me while we were at a red light that she had no brake lights on her Elantra... but it wasn't as fun for some reason.

Sometimes the world works in mysterious ways. Things happen, and for the life of us, we can't figure out why. Why them? Why now? It just seems so unfair. On Saturday, one of the best persons I had the pleasure of knowing had a massive stroke, and a day later, she was gone. This woman was more than just a good friend, she was one of the best teachers I ever had in high school, really shaped me into the person I am today. She wouldn't let you get away with anything in class without first publicly poking fun at you and then explain what you needed to know. I remember in class one time, a reference to the Diet of Worms was made, and being an idiot, said, "Wow, that…

Friend of mine wants a Camaro. He has very good credit. The Chevy dealer said he only got approved for $15,000. He went to a Honda dealer to check out what they had and found out he could get approved for $30,000. What gives? He wants a Camaro but if he can't get the financing he's going elsewhere, probably for a Honda.

Seems a normal human proclivity to want to be near others of your feather. When on a road trip, do you take note of other vehicles around you? Do you tend to form a convoy of good buddies and travel for miles, maybe mildly jockeying for position in line, but staying together in a ragtag group? Strangers traveling on the road of life together, separately, having never spoken, maybe glancing over for a split second to see who's who... And it all falls apart when they turn off, or when you hit the toll booths and they have an easy pass and you have to go into the "cash only" line.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yxaV8zdEu4 If GM was serious about maximizing fuel efficiency in a production model, why not revisit the 1992 GM Ultralite concept car with today's technological advances? Sorry, I was watching Demolition Man on TV this morning. I decided to Google more about this car and found the above YouTube video. This would seem to be a more viable option than going hybrid or electric. Food for thought!

So How Many Kids Can Fit Into A Mazda Hatchback? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com August 29, 2011 A South African man learned the hard way that you shouldn't try to fit many kids into one car. The unnamed man was stopped near Cape Town. When police took a look at the Mazda hatchback he was driving, they saw seventeen kids sitting or laying down in the car. Three kids were in the front seat with the driver, while the other fourteen were back making the most of the hatchback room with the seats folded. Police arrested the man for carrying to many people in his car, driving with a suspended license, and his car being found unroadworthy. …

I'm looking into a sun visor upgrade for my '99 Saturn SC2. I noticed today while junkyarding that '90's Grand Am's and some other '90's and early '00's GM cars seem to share the same 3-screw mounting design. I didn't get a chance to test and see if the visors really would swap, but they look the same, and I could easily believe that Saturn dipped into the parts pin for their visor hardware. So, what I'm hoping to find is that some model/trim level that uses this 3-screw mounting design (for the swivel end) came with sun visors that had the extension flap piece. I have it in my suburban, I've had it in buicks past, and would like that little slide out extension in th…

The fact that he took the time to travel back from the future is testament to the man's devotion to our company" Wagoner, who died in the year 2035, was reanimated in 2054 through a combination of nano-technology and voodoo by the United States of Canada. This was hands down the most amazing show I have ever been to. I've seen MetallicA 3 times now and this was by far their best appearance. I have NEVER before witnessed a band so tight as this one. Death Magnetic has really breathed new life into this establishment. Everything was amazing... From the intense laser show that kicks things off to the pyrotechnics, to the falling and rising GIANT coffins, to the beach balls at the end. James voice sounded phenomenal and he has once again mastered singing in a higher octave (like the old stuff) This show was double the pleasure for me because Lamb Of God (One of the openers) is my second favorite band behind MetallicA. Given that my G6 is not in, I had to renew Cavy's plates, i.e. emissions test. I went to the PBG dealer I got my G6, and while doing the stuff I sat in 3 cars: Lucerne CXS, G6 GTP and Solstice. Here are my comments: Lucerne: Fit and finish is really nice, but the top of the dash material can really do better. Feels extremely rough to touch. Others such as seating surfaces are very plush and top notch. G6: Surprisingly I find the dash material here is better than the Lucerne. Except that there are some slight hints of cheap plastics (e.g. the lower part of the door, the centre console), otherwise I give it a pass. It's not exactly soft to the touch, but very sim…

Do any of you guys and gals own/use a radar detector? I just decided to treat myself to a late xmas gift and got this I found it on sale on another site for $279 with free shipping, so thats a savings of $190. According to tracking it should arrive today and I'm pretty excited about it. I'm not as much of a speeder as I used to be, but still having peace of mind when I do decide to cruise at 80 on the highway is always nice

I know this might sound petty, but is it possible to move all of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox posts to their rightful place - with the CHEVROLET TRUCKS? GM & Chevy do consider this to be a truck model and when you look on the online ordering guide, the Equinox is listed under the Chevy Trucks link with all of the other pickups, SUVs, and CUVs. Thanks in advance for your consideration!!

well last monday i made my final payment of $311.62 to GMAC on my 2004 Colorado. Yesterday i got this in the mail. on my way to work today i go and do this to it. i was on my way into work like i said. i was looking at a 70ish GMC pickup and there was a 94-7 mustang in front of me. he was prolly around 10-15 car lengths ahead. well when i looked back in front of me he was 5 and was turning... i stood on the pedal and almost made it but i kissed the stang right on the rear passenger side corner. long story short it only spider webbed the mustang but did a number on my bumper. no ticket though cause the owner was cool about it. my insurance agent said …

Remember this? http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=10463 Well, to put it as simply as possible, Dell screwed up and my order didn't really go through. Now, I was going to just say the hell with it and buy one from Circuit City or the like but as I think about it, I think I should put the money towards a better use. I may just save as much as I can of the money I earn this summer and start really saving for another car. I haven't really been doing that up to now. As for what car, I have no idea since I really don't have any idea how much I want to (or can) spend. -An old Caprice to "Impala SSify"? -A Maxima? -A Saab 9-3? -An older BMW? I real…

The short answer to your production question on the Healeys last night: About 72,00 "big Healeys" were built between '53 and '68. Many more Sprites were built and they ran until about '71. I'll post more detail tonight.

About an hour ago, an F3 tornado touched down in the NW part of Ames. I haven't heard anything on the damage up there, but I got a pic of the tornado as it was going back up into the sky. I'm ok and the Iowa State campus was unaffected. They had to evacuate Jack Trice Stadium because people were there for the ISU - Colorado game. We never get tornadoes in November!

Yesterday as I was sitting at work before my shift began, I saw an article in the paper about how GM was trying to get Ford to get rid of their old ads that claimed that their 5yr/60,000mi warranty was the "best of any full-line auto maker." As I closed the paper, I noticed a Mercury ad on the back page... with that very statement. I love irony...

Hey all, First I checked the entire forum rules that I could find and I didn't see anything that says I couldn't promote this here. If that is the case my sincere apologizes to the mods. I will be starting my new bartending job at McFadden’s in NYC this coming Thursday evening. It's the end of the summer party so it should be especially crazy. The place has good food, good booze and great music so if you're a C&G person around the city this Thursday stop by at or after 10 PM. Say "I'm here because of Dan" at the door and I'll make sure to give extra buybacks on top of the already great drink specials for anyone here. McFadden’s is convenient to Grand Cen…

None of my MCs are show-stoppers. Each one has "blemishes" ... scratches, dents, dings, "beauty" parts missing, etc. ... and I don't claim to keep them 100% spic'n'span clean like I should. But ... each time a new "blemish" pops up ... a little part of me cringes.... Thursday of this week, a new "blemish" for the '87 MC LS "appeared". Somewhere between home and work, the passenger-side front wheel "hubcap" came off ... the one seen in this pic: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/newpics/DSC07667r8_jpg.html In a way, I feel lucky that I managed to go from October until May without losing any wheel covers, given the rough roads I travel between Elgin and Schaumburg. Sti…

Beautiful sunny day today, out on I-77 south of Canton saw a couple strange sights...I saw a big rollback wrecker loading a presumably broken-down black current style Chevy Silverado HD 4dr that had been towing a large fifth-wheel travel trailer (like 35 foot or so)...was on a uphill section of I-77. Later saw two new (w/ temporary tags) Volvo three rear axle semi-truck cabs (googled the model--the 'VHD'), one red, one white, lots of chrome driving together...the odd detail was the red was flat-towing an older Honda CRV.. Saw a solid third gen Camaro IROC-Z in bright red, t-tops off rumbling along in traffic through Akron...paint was a bit faded in places, but i…

One day, when the great automotive enthusiast in the sky allows me to win the lottery, this would make a great racing circuit for all of Pa's enthusiasts and its visitors to enjoy. Think of it as our version of the Nurburgring. Unofficially 21.5 miles long, its filled with a little bit of everything. The northern section is very technical and winds through a nice hilly area. Many 90 degree turns, successive switch-backs, and blind curves. There is an awesome portion that winds around a cemetery as it suddenly drops into a valley; a favorite of mine. The southern section is more high speed based with more straights, beginning and ending with tight, near 180 degree turns. A…

If you have the same publication that I got this trivia from, please sit this one out. Tom and Ray looked forward to Xmas visits from Aunt Bertha. She always gave them the same present; two pairs of hand-knitted wool socks. Just before Christmas, 1951, they learned Aunt Bertha would not be coming. A few days later she passed away. The official cause of death was very common in 1951, but Aunt Bertha may have been it's last victim. After that year, no one died of this particular affliction. What was it?

Classics ones, that is. I've always liked the classic vans (grew up around vans), and there has been a few driving around here lately.... I'm, actually pondering the idea of a classic van....something my whole family could enjoy. I'm thinking late 60s- early 80s. Any ideas? Good websites you know of?

So with all the discussions that we have had about various engines and how the auto companies are pushing to standardize engine families across the world to address the tax's imposed on size, this made me wonder about why GM has never built a complete family of V engines based on the tough durable Corvette Push Rod V8. I admit I do not have the engineering chops to dig into the fine details and invite those here that do to share with us what they think the HP, Torque and Efficiency would be like on a family of Push rod V engines. This would include my desire to know if a V2 could work as a efficient engine for the Subcompact market? My thoughts Base line Corvette DI V8…
