C&G needs to get in the Twitter game, you want new members? Then this is how to do it. GMI has made huge inroads with GM's Senior staff, just letting you know ... Twitter Etiquette: A guide to getting unfollowed Twitter is hot. If the internet were high school, Twitter would totally be the knock-out cheerleading prom queen. You can’t turn on the news without hearing requests to Twitter the station your thoughts. Stores offer Twitter only discount codes. There’s the CNN/Kutcher race to gain a million followers. I have two suggestions for forum additions that I think will better organize C&G. First, the some of the brands in the GM Family have current and future model/plan subsections. I think we need to add a subsection for past models for each brand since there's really not an "appropriate" place to put threads about them. Currently, they're being posted in the current model sections. I think it will better organize things. Second, I've noticed there's been an increase in the amount of video links being posted. I think there should be a separate forum section to post these to reduce the amount of clutter in other sections of the forum. Any thoughts?

Could it be possible to have slightly larger avatars? I want to use the following image as my avatar . . . . . . but when I try to load it, the Image Scale makes it look pixelated. Is this suggestion possible? Or is there a way to fix the pixelation?

Well, it's finally visible now. Just like expected, exactly the "concept" vehicle but with slighter smaller production wheels, some more typical interior coloring, and that's about it. Looks decent enough, just bland and boxy as could BE and with a bizarre nose--again, all direct from the largely production-spec concept: http://www.leftlanenews.com/honda-pilot.html

Not sure if I am overlooking this or not, while I like the way posts now show up in this new updated version, I do have a challenge in getting to the Forum list of threads as from the home page I do not find where to go to get the forum list. The minimalist tool bar at the top has gotten too minimalist. This is what I see: Getting to this page I was lucky as I typed in /forums after the www.cheersandgears.com address in my browser.

Not that it really matters, though... but I just like having joined on Dec 28, 03. Aug 19, 05 just isn't as nice. And it puts me equal to or lower than newer members. As if they have superiority. As the auto show season quickly approaches us we here at C&G have realized we need a different way to update the site. With myself and Chris Pauwels (aka Crispey2k) being invited to an invite only event here in Metro Detroit for the NAIAS we have some pretty significant things in store for members and visitors alike of C&G. So, in light of the situation we have before us, Frank Donato aka z28luvr has done a fantastic job of keeping C&G's previous look and "morphing" it of sorts to a new front page that is far and away easier to update literally from any computer. In doing that, updates to the front page will be more frequent as myself, Z, F…

VIDEO: BMW X3 vs. Audi Q5 in an all-wheel drive man-made hill climb WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2010 Who would have thought that BMW's all-wheel drive systems were enough to shame Audi's famous quattro system? Not the average consumer, that's for sure (though BMW certainly has had enough time to get it right). BMW, which has actually been making AWD cars for the past 25 years, has decided to begin more aggressively targeting consumers who live in harsher climates. According to this video, BMW's xDrive is vastly superior to Audi's quattro - at least when driving up metal inclines built by BMW... In the clip, we get a glimpse at what appears to be some sort of BMW press even…

I promise, this will be the last spamming from me posting of all that spy shot craps. Yet another old news I digged from the net. This one is from Audi. The 2011 A7. http://blog.pixnet.net/jackieyang/post/9376358 The site is the Chinese site, but the article is in English so you can read about it. I just wanted to share them. I thought these were just too good the news to be just posted on my site only. Though they are old. I will be keep on hunting for the spy shots, but unless I get a go to post them here, this will be the last time I flood this site with all these pointless spy shot junks. Enjoy.

Report: Renault-Nissan engines to power future Mercedes, Smart models by Noah Joseph (RSS feed) on Dec 8th 2010 at 3:58PM The door metaphorically adjoining the offices of Msr. Ghosn and Dr. Zetsche swings both ways. The two executives – heads of Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance respectively – signed a deal that would see the two auto groups collaborating on future products. So far all the reports appear to be benefiting Nissan – including the latest on AMG engines in Infiniti Performance Line models – but the latest indicate a measure of reciprocation. According to the wire coming in from across the pond, the next generation of Mercedes-Benz A- and B-Class hat…

VW, Fiat, Ford face probe in Brazil on auto-parts policies Automotive News Europe -- December 16, 2010 14:03 CET BRASILIA (Bloomberg) -- Brazil's antitrust agency ordered an investigation into automakers Volkswagen AG, Fiat S.p.A. and Ford Motor Co. to find out whether their policies toward auto parts suppliers are abusive. The agency, known as Cade, wants to determine if the automakers are “abusing their economic power and illegally exercising their property rights on the auto parts,” Cade said Thursday in Brasilia. The investigation was requested by Brazil's federal association of partsmakers, known as Anfape, which claims the automakers, based on their intellectual…

I'm pleased to announce that C&G's own GM Economy and Efficiency Guide has been updated to reflect the latest federal information for the 2007 model year. While the vast majority of models are included, a few (such as the Acadia and OUTLOOK) are pending at this time. We will add the data as soon as it becomes available. New to the guide are Marque Averages, which tells how economical and efficient the division is as a whole. The number is derived from simply adding the city, highway, average, and emissions figures and dividing those respective totals by the number of vehicle engine choices. Enjoy, as we hope this - along with our updated GM Vehicle Safety Guide - wi…

Leroy's main priority will be to reverse Toyota's declining European sales and repair the automaker's image after more than 1.7 million cars were recalled in Europe as part of the company's global campaign to address safety issues. Cars.com Interesting...it says that the new Avalon has "average" reliability, as does the RL and Odyssey. Nissan's not doing so hot either...the Titan, Armada, QX56, and Quest rank among the 48 least-reliable vehicles sold. Yeah, maybe for some of recently laid-to-rest models like the Cavalier and Windstar before Detroit began actively pursuing higher quality. Who says that still holds true today? Why is CR always so quick to jump on the domestics without even giving them a chance to prove themselves?

Am I the only that experiences problems? It seems every once in a while the C&G server becomes extremely slow and eventually a DNS error page thing pops up. It's been happening for a while now, but today has been terrible. I've been able to get about 20 minutes or so on the site since I first got on at 2:40. I notice everytime I get on, the member list is extremely low, like during the late night hours so I can't be the only having these... right? Regardless, it's extremely annoying and it's pissing me off. If it's my PC... something will be done. If it's C&G, I'll be a bit happier, but I hope it ends.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...photopanel..1.* The problem with most Japanese cars here is that they're dull, soulless, and generic. But after seeing tons of truly weird and different cars in Asia this past winter, I actually wish they would import some of this lost-in-translation, automotive-anime, Japanese subculture madness here. Modern cars in the US are all pretty much the same, dictated by certain car norms, shapes, and functions... to begin with, why do all cars have to be symmetrical? Why must luxury car interiors be covered in leather and wood? Anyway, I really like the Cube, especially in that color, even though…

Europeans win big from China's appetite for high-end cars September 14, 2010 - 11:45 pm ET China's rich are more likely to splurge on premium and superluxury cars than anyone else in the world. That finding comes from a recent report by Bernstein Research. London-based Bernstein analyst Max Warburton identified a premium car buyer as someone from a household with more than $100,000 (78,500 euros) of annual disposable income. In China, 231 out of every 1,000 car buyers who met that criterion in 2009 bought premium cars. Germany was No. 2 at 176 out of every 1,000 followed by the UK at 165. Spain ranked fourth (81) followed by Canada (59) and the United States (52) last…

Moderators need to curb their right to alter or delete posts. Within the last few months, Ninety Eight Regency posted one of his photo parades. I commented on the setting in one photo and said it "looked very Houston TX" (which is where he happens to be from...a metropolis of 4 or so million people). Ninety Eight provided us with some humor in the grandstanding exit/re-entry also exhibited by a few others on here so I get a kick out of such "self-importance." Many people comment on surroundings or backgrounds in people's posted photos. Being that I design buildings, this is reflexive to me. Yet the post was gone. One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure ou…

Lamborghini, Ferrari and Bentley expand use of carbon fiber Rhoda Miel Automotive News Europe -- October 13, 2010 06:01 CET European carmakers such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bentley and McLaren made carbon-fiber composites the standard for high-end supercars. Now they're taking carbon fiber even further, creating new ways to reduce molding time and get more of the material into structural parts. Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A made its new technology the centerpiece of its Sesto Elemento concept, which was introduced Sept. 30 at the Paris auto show. The car uses carbon fiber for the passenger compartment, the front and rear-end structures, suspension components, the i…

Japan, Inc. From the "Here We Go Again" File comes word that Japanese authorities intervened in the foreign-exchange market today, launching the dollar up sharply against the yen. They say the move is Japan's first foreign-exchange market intervention in more than six years. Really? We find that hard to believe. It may have been the first official move in six years, but when foreign currency manipulation is part of the standard operating procedure of the government there, we're not buying that explanation. At any rate, this will be a giant rice bowl of Not Good for the U.S.-based auto manufacturers in no time. Count on it.

Brazil's boom is good news for Fiat and VW October 12, 2010 - 11:30 pm ET The unthinkable has finally happened. Brazil has overtaken Germany as the fourth-largest market for passenger car and light commercial vehicle sales. That's good news for Fiat, Volkswagen and other European volume carmakers. Fiat and VW have dominated the Brazilian auto market for decades. Their rivals Renault and PSA/Peugeot-Citroen have big growth plans for South America and Brazil, the region's biggest market. Let's take a look at the numbers: In the first eight months, Brazilian car and LCV sales grew 8.4 percent to 2.08 million while Germany fell 27.3 percent to 2.03 million, according to m…

Report: Tata to go on Motown hiring binge by Chris Shunk (RSS feed) on Dec 6th 2010 at 8:28AM The state of Michigan has been especially hard-hit by the Great Recession, slow auto sales and the 2009 bankruptcies of General Motors and Chrysler, but there appears to be a bit of employment help on the way from an unlikely source. Drive reports that Tata Motors subsidiary Tata Technologies is looking to hire 400 workers at its Detroit-area technical center. Tata Technologies is a supplier for several auto companies in North America. Tata is looking for designers, engineers and professionals with experience dealing with product lifecycle, and these aren't jobs that will be…

Mazda & Honda Suspend Orders For US William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 28, 2011 Mazda and Honda are suspending orders for vehicles built in Japan due to the earthquake and inventory problems. Mazda said it's shutting down it's plants in Hiroshima and Hofu. The plants which build the Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda5, MX-5 / Miata, RX-8, CX7 and CX9 were running last week for three days using parts in its inventory. However, Mazda will be idling plants starting this week due to part shortages. Mazda's U.S.spokesman Jay Amestoy said the decision to idle plants will only effect shipments of vehicles for May 2011. 2008 BMW M3 Coupe being marked up to $100,000 Link to AutoBlog We've been getting reports from all over that the 2008 BMW M3 Coupe has begun to arrive in U.S. dealerships. Dealers, however, have also begun taking advantage of the high interest in these Bavarian über coupes by marking up the price. Since we couldn't just take everyone's word for the extreme mark ups, we had to wait until someone surfaced with proof, which came today. Dragtimes.com is hosting an image of a brand spanking new M3 sitting in an unidentified California dealer with a window sticker displaying the car's $70,720 MSRP plus a $30,000 mark up. The extra monies demanded by the dealer is labeled…

2011 MAHINDRA APPALACHIAN SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2009MARCH 12TH, 2009 By Mark Kleis Proving to be the longest lasting, most unpredictable rumor in the auto industry – handily ousting the Amarok flip-flop for top honors – Mahindra has yet again hit a major snag in its seemingly doomed quest to come to the U.S. It was only one week ago that Leftlane reported on the passing of the EPA emissions testing for the Mahindra truck, seemingly clearing the way for the small diesel-powered pickup to come stateside. But what we (and apparently all but a single Indian media outlet – Frontier India) missed was a small disclaimer on Mahindra’s media site that said the agreement between Mahi…

I've noticed an unusual situation going on. There's massive amount (and I do mean massive) of advertising for the Japanese brands going on for some reason on radio. Why I say unusual, because even the dealers that aren't usually advertising, are doing so now. It's like on the radio usually it's the same 2-3 dealers, but this morning I've heard 5 different dealers advertising in a row already. They're all claiming they're offering at least $4-5000 off the new 2008 Hondas and Toyotas, with 0.9% finance rate (Usually this is up at least 3.9% with the other import brands) plus GST rebate, and even up to $7000 on 2007s. Mazda seems worse, they're offering $9000 on some new 200…

Just now my time settings for the board got changed. I refreshed the page and suddenly the time is 4 hours behind. I had it on Eastern Standard Time and it was still set to that when it happened. I have to have it on Cape Verdean time to get the accurate time.

Mahindra Tries To Dump Its Importer, U.S. Launch Left In Limbo By Richard Read Reporter August 27th, 2010 Things were going so well for Mahindra: Americans were ready for the pickups they'd been promising, the Environmental Protection Agency gave the company's diesels the green light, and Mahindra's U.S. importer, Global Vehicles, had put together a nationwide network of dealers to sell the trucks. Then things went south -- but not, as Georgia's Global Vehicles was expecting, Deep South. Yesterday, in a very brief post to its U.S. website, Mahindra said it had dropped Global as its American importer. Tensions between the two companies had been on the rise since Glob…

I would love to see an anti GM board somewhere on these forums. It would be interesting to read from people who had bad experiences with a GM product and won't buy a GM car anymore. They are out there. Sometimes someone is ticked off about a GM product and need a place to vent. GM needs to be aware of reasons why some people won't buy their products given that the company once had 50 percent of the market share two and one half decades ago. Anyone else interested in an ex-Gm, anti-GM, GM vent board??

Europe's carmakers face an anxious second half August 3, 2010 - 12:01 am ET European automakers have been buoyed by better-than-expected first-half results as the region's car sales largely held steady despite the phasing out of government incentives, but the good news won't last much longer. Volume manufacturers selling cars in Europe believe the second half of the year will be difficult due to the ending of incentives and the introduction of tough austerity measures in European countries hit by fiscal crises. What's worrying companies is that they are not sure how bad it will be. Credit Suisse's David Arnold said: "The question is how does the second half play out.…

GAZ Siber to switch from Chrysler Sebring to MB E-Class?! Russian automotive manufacturer GAZ is being courted by a number of handsome suitors, according to Inside Line. While the company currently produces the Volga Siber at its Gorky Automobile plant, there's some indication that Daimler may want the facility to switch to building the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The move would kinda sorta be an all-in-the-family affair as the Siber is currently built off of the old Chrysler Sebring platform. With Chrysler out of Daimler's portfolio and Mercedes-Benz looking to take the Russian assault to its rival BMW, the move would make plenty of sense. It would also seem to be a rather l…

Car News briefs: Cross Lander Ute expected this year AutoWeek | Published 01/17/06, 4:33 pm et Free pass for Cross Lander Importers of the inexpensive Romanian built Cross Lander 244X sport/ute won a three-year exemption from federal airbag requirements. Cross Lander won the exemption through May 2008 because the vehicle as initially configured weighed more than 5500 pounds, which would have excluded it from the requirement. However, an engine supply problem forced a powertrain switch that reduced the weight below the 5500-pound threshold. As a result, the company requested and won the airbag waiver and plans to move ahead with sales of the vehicle in the United Stat…

Rumormill: Marussia bringing seven new models to Frankfurt by Noah Joseph (RSS feed) on Dec 27th 2010 at 11:01AM If you're going to make it in the exotic supercar business, it helps to have two things: a substantial lineup and an F1 team. The Ferrari case, first of all, goes without saying. McLaren has the latter covered, and is in the process of kicking the former into high gear. Spyker bought its own F1 team, and though it subsequently sold it, look at the Dutch automaker now: they own Saab. Lotus is following the same path with not one, but two F1 teams, and an aggressive model rollout plan. Now Marussia looks poised to follow the same path. The exotic Russian au…

I notice you've sub-divided the "Other Guys" forum. I liked it better the other way since you could see all the news in one bite, without having to enter each subforum. Not only that, but the purpose of the subdivision really makes no sense. One can ascertain the company the post deals with by the thread title. I haven't been here long (and since in the migration, my account was eliminated, I appear to be even newer) but thought you might like a little feedback on the change. Tony

What is wrong with C&G and never updating the news? There have been major events since it was last updated, such as GM's new 5year/100,000 mile warranty. If this site is going to remain competitive it needs to be updated at least once a day. I like this site lot more then GMI but am forced to read GMI due to the lack of news here.

Insideline DETROIT — Exterior and interior images of the redesigned 2010 Toyota Prius have been posted at Priuschat.com and subsequently snapped up around the blogosphere. Toyota spokesman Curt McAllister on Thursday morning confirmed for Inside Line the authenticity of the images, and said they were "accidentally leaked." He added, "More details at the Detroit show." The car's formal unveiling is slated for January at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The new Prius will face off against the Honda Insight, which was introduced last month at the Paris show and also goes on sale next year as a 2010 model. Look for the Insight to be priced from $2,000-$3,000 below the Prius.…

I'd guess the 2008 Buick Enclave . It certainly is one of GM's most anticipated products of that model year, and many would like to see the interior of the production vehicle. I suppose I could compare the shown image to the uncovered vehicle at the car shows, but I'll skip that. Buick Enclave! * If so, Flybrian, remember to spell it E-n-c-l-a-v-e . P.S. - If I'm wrong, it'd be the first time... in the last five minutes. Guess I've run out of smilies . [ EDIT ] They should have covered up those rims .

A new supercar and a new concept in motorsport entertainment November 20, 2005 One of our favourite television shows, the BBC’s Top Gear, tests all the very fast road cars and it runs them around the same test circuit so times can be directly compared. The fastest they’ve ever had around the circuit was a Maserati MC12, followed by an Enzo Ferrari, an Ariel Atom, a Porsche Carrera GT and a McLaren Mercedes – until recently, when an Ascari KZ1 pushed the McLaren out of the top five. To put the feat into perspective, consider the cars that have been around the same stretch of tarmac and are not in the five fastest –Ford GT, Ferrari 360 CS, Porsche GT3 RS, Lamborghini M…
