Flybrian's Random Car Showcase Presents... The 1998-99 Cadillac Fleetwood Limited Through boredom and...well, just boredom, I bring you the second in likely many little 'diaries' of a completely random car. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1998 Cadillac Fleetwood Limited Lima, Ohio is not home to many things. Some oil was drilled there. Hugh Downs of 20/20 fame worked there. Ford's 3.5l Duratec is made there as was Phyllis Diller. But it is home to one of America's - if not the world's - most experienced and respected coachworks: Superior Coaches. Ten years after its formation in 1915, Superior began to modify existing auto chassis to accomodated customized hearse and ambul…

I thought this was hilarious. I am indeed a Mopar guy, probably more than a GM guy but I have switched back and forth many times. I have a passion for both companies very much. This was on a 409 in a 59 Bel Air, correct me if I am wrong with the year. The 409 is probably one of my favourite engines other than the HEMI or 572. This was from the GM Heritage Center where a couple of employees' cars were shown. Here are the pics.

* "Kid" movies/shows that have adult themes (or vice versa) ... GO! Kermit & Rowlf singing about women ... "I Hope That Something Better Comes Along": [My favorite song from that 1979 Muppet Movie is one of the related videos on the right-hand-side list ... Kermit & Fozzie singing "Movin' Right Along".] Scenes from the original CARS movie ... "Real Gone": Golden Girls ... choose just about ANY scene from that TV show. As a kid, I was allowed to watch it ... but seeing it now as an adult, I'm a bit surprised. The writing and acting on that show was superb, at least in terms of disguising some of the adult themes.... Others? Cort | 38.m.IL | pigValv…

So this week I've been hauling a lot of junk into my favorite scrap metal yard, Ace Iron and scrap. Weird group of cars there... A group of Alfa Sedans...a bunch of older Benzes, from the 80's and 90's, some odd stuff... A Suburban with 24" expensive wheels that was in decent shape, expensive wheels left on the thing when it went to the crusher for some odd reason... A really clean 944 Porsche, that had a claw put through it's roof... Several clean FWD Cadillacs. a few with low mileage and nice... Several Jags... A WRX (2004ish) that had been built into a rally car of sorts....was crushed, so I couldn't get a good look at the cage...but somebody had a bad day racin…

So, I'm back home from another Saturday night on the town and it was pretty much like every other Saturday night for the last, oh, how many years? I've never been the type of person to go out with the intention of meeting anyone. That is just setting yourself up for for disappointment. I'm always open to the possibility, but I'm not the type to jump into anything on a whim. I have multiple 'bar' friends that I see regularly and talk to but, and I hope I'm not sounding like a complete jerk here, they aren't people that I want to do anything with on a social basis outside of the bar, much less anyone that I'd be interested in developing a relationship with. There just …

On rt252 not far from my place. Somehow a BMW X5 ended-up being 90 degrees out from the roadway with its nose up a 45 degree embankment after a collision with a Ford Explorer and possibly another car. The X5 was entirely off of the road with its nose against a tree. Must have been something to see happen, the physics of it all puzzle me. Be safe everyone.

First of all, the global leadership in Paris and Tokyo sees little purpose to Buick and Saturn, so these brands will be cancelled immediately. Apologies to anyone who actually cared about them. Renault has plans to come back to the U.S., and it's believed the best way to do this is sell all GMC/Chevy GMT900's as Renaults. The Silverado will be known as the Renault Clouseau, in honor of the legendary French detective: The Tahoe will be sold as the Renault Chirac, after the great French premier who stood up to Yankee imperialism. It's believed that these moves will give Renault a volume of 1.5 million units in North America, instantly making it a major player. It wi…

I've always wanted to check this guys book out ("Metallica and Philosophy: A Crash Course In Brain Surgery") I think this article (pertaining to the release of Death Magnetic) is a very cool read! I often get MANY responses when I tell people how adamant I am about metal, particularly thrash, death and black metal. I get everything from "Don't kill yourself, it'll be okay" to sneers of disgust and comments like "Unlike you, I don't worship satan." to people even calling me ignorant. Well, this article is one of the best things I've found that explains HOW I view metal and WHY I'm such a big fan. When your life is a daily struggle to survive (Like mine was at one po…

During a recent taping of "Street Tuner Challenge", a mildy modified Cobalt SS pounds a Nissan Skyline, as well as a nitrous snorting Jetta. All cars were clearly at the limits of tire adhesion, as the little Cobalt had the best lap by more than seven full seconds. Too bad so sad. It was at Buttonwillow Raceway park, and it's coming up on Speedvision...Watch it if you like that sort of thing. :P no joke.

There was also some jackass parked at the corner. As I came to s astop this beat up 80's Town Car comes to a stop behind me, kind of short. I pull out a few inches to see around the car at the corner. He pulls up too but hits his braakes kind of hard, as I can see the boat nose dive a bit. I pull out a coupel of inches more and stop to geta better view and wait for an openning in busy traffic...then BAM! I'm rear ended...and more than a little pissed. Don't you just love it when you had plans to do something (like a trip or something) and someone bails out and cancels at the VERY last minute? So either you do what you had planned alone or not even bother. Granted sometimes they've canceled because something tragic or important happen that I can understand, but when they cancel because "they don't feel like it" just... I don't know why, but crap like this happens to me all the time and it's not with just one friend in particular it's with quite a few of them. I'm not someone who gets pissed off often but this is one of the little things that grate on my nerves.

Flames lost again and the Ducks move on. The west is going to get its ass handed to it on a plate again this year, as they will again be the division with "the cinderella team" going to the finals. Well, at leats i still have the Sens to cheer for, and it will be cool if Jersey and Carolina beat each other up so badly that it will eliminate their chances of going to the finals. I felt this deserves its own thread, as the subject matter is slightly different than part one.

I was over to the Barnes & Noble today, looking at magazines of different genres, and the September, 2009 issue of Hot Rod caught my eye. They have a big tribute article to Pontiac, and some really cool artwork involving new ideas for customizing older Chevys. I am primarily thinking of Camino with this thread, but of course I think everyone else here would love it, too. Check it out. Also, for behind-closed-doors Design Center photo hounds like me, the newest issue of Collectible Automobile has a fantastic spread on the '73-'77 Pontiac A-body cars, LeMans, GTO, Can Am and Grand Am. Some of the design proposals are damn scrumptious!

Reddit — if you actually stay awake and pay attention to what's what around the world wide web — is typically a festering rathole, good for hosting line after spewing line of junk data. As a website that idenitfies itself as the leading middle-man for quote-unquote "social news" it brings the concept of citizen journalism to an all-time record low, and any content of actual relevance and solidity seems to give Gawker and its network of bastard children CSPAN-like levels of credibility in outright comparison. It's a forum for the huddled and uninformed, unwashed masses of the world with a hi-speed internet connection to make a poor and weak-hearted attempt to be informed a…

Looks like it might be car buying time for me again over the summer... I'm a 19 yr old university student though so I don't have a huge budget... I'll probably get something between $4000 and $6500 Canadian... I've been looking around and have seen some decent prices on Cherokees, Impalas, Monte Carlos, Intrigues, Lincolns... etc. How are older Caddy Devilles? I asked a while back about the 89-91ish generation and most people told me to generally avoid them. What about the 94 bodystyle? There are great deals on these to, and they are definitely nice cars... I'm just not sure if they'd be a headache to own or not .

The above photo was snagged from Reddit where the owner installed the side stripes to cover some superficial damage which got me thinking: what would you do if you scratched your MX-5 (not necessarily the new 2016 but any gen)? Oh, and please answer even if you don’t have a Mazda, aMiata or even if you don’t have a car at all. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LR6M6HM

Let's share stories about the state of the infrastructure in the state you live. In this case I'm going to point out the state of bridges in Massachusetts (and some in NH near the border). As of 2008, there were 543 bridges that were structurally deficient "due to years of neglect" in Massachusetts. The state was forced to initiate an emergency rehabilitation and/or replacement program to get these bridges back up to code. Link Here's example of just what I have personally seen/see every day (except the bridges opening up). In Methuen they had to do major structure renovations to the the bridge which goes over 213, and had to close the whole bridge down to do it. Sever…

Then a few hours later at 5:00 I dropped off Sofia in Haverhill with my parents & hit Rt.495 for the 4th time today. All of a sudden I see pink slime... I heard this song the other day on TV or somewhere and it has been bugging me that I can't figure out who sings it. I have no idea what the lyrics are except that there is a male vocalist that goes "do - do Do DOO" repeatedly in the chorus, while a guitar is plucked. It's a very slow, mellow song...it reminds me of summer. I'm guessing it's from the 70s by the way it sounds, but I really have no idea. I'm pretty sure it has been used in one or more movies before.

So, I saw this commercial last night...BMW 3er commercial. I thought it was really well done, especially the very end which made me smile a lot. The last segment of the video shows Bimmerfest, the definitive, annual BMW gathering in the nation. It happens every year in Santa Barbara, California at the Earl Warren Showgrounds. This year it happened May 5th (Drinko de Mayo! Yeah baby!) and it was a great turnout. The first shot is of the E21 3er's with their hoods popped. One of my buddy's on another forum named Matt has the red one, and he couldn't believe it...Pretty awesome. My car is somewhere in the second shot...it is a very large venue with a huge turnout...It isn't …

Nobody wants to relive 2020, which was full of pain, death, financial ruin, and overall misery, but here’s a quick summary of what happened. It started with impeachment proceedings and the shocking death of Kobe Bryant in a helicopter crash in the fog. In March it was clear that the COVID-19 virus had taken a foothold in the U.S., and teleworking, distance learning, and Zoom started to become part of everyday life, and going to movies, gyms, traveling, and eating out largely became things of the past. In April, the Centers of Disease Control recommended everyone to wear masks in public, but they became a symbol of a culture war rather than protection during a public…

Hi all, I just wanted to ask, since Ihave never seen any mention in the lounge, is anyone hwere a big Harry Potter fan? I am a huge one and I can't wait for the seventh and final book to come out this July 21st, Harry Potter and the Deathley Hallows. I enjoy the movies but as with most good books the movies don't hold a candle to the books. Anyways just asking. can't wait for the 112 days till the book release.

Pay close attention & you will probably also spot a beautiful but angry late-1950s nailhead powered 2-door hardtop in white. http://video.msn.com/v/us/v.htm?g=34f9608e...=>1=10252

Happy birthday to Sal Collaziano and Yukon't Wait. Post count is about 200 for Sal, but, yo, what a great name, and FOUR for Yukon. It's doubtful that either will see this message.

Ok, so I dont think I've mentioned this, but a couple of months ago, my mom decided to take a job in England. She left two weeks ago (my dad is going over after she gets settled and decides if she wants to stay) and was told she was going to need a car. They told her that her Saturn would "make her a target" (it would probably be the only L300 there) and besides that, its was too big. So in the time she isn't spending at work or trying to hook me up with waitresses (I'm never going to go visit if she does that the whole time I'm there) she's been looking for a car. I talked to my dad this morning, and apparently she bought a Corsa, which …

As of today, we are now a GM-only household. Sold my 2004 Neon SXT this morning and we're down to one car, the Malibu Maxx. This is the first time I've been without a Mopar in the garage since Nixon was president. I'm serious! My wife got a new job where she is able to commute via bus and I've been commuting via bus for a long time. Our high-school daughter gets to/from school via the bus as well and she won't be able to drive, unless some advanced surgery comes along to fix her eyesight (she's legally blind). We decided we don't need two cars and my wife didn't like driving the Neon (she claims she sat too low in it). Wow...we only have one car--and it's a GM!

About a year or so ago I admitted my love (still, after 30 years) for TONKA trucks and told everyone here about Tonka's newest product line - Tonka TOUGHEST Mighty Dump Truck --> Well, to top that, now you may have the opportunity to see this truck in real life: (this pic gives you an idea of how big the real truck is compared to the toy!) Visit Tonka Truck Tour to learn more about this truck, watch a video of how this real, driveable truck was brought to life, and see if it's coming to a Wal-Mart location near you (I may be "sick" one day this week to drive to a location near me!!).

I'm using Firefox. I have up-to-date Windows Media Player, Quicktime, RealPlayer, Java, and Shockwave. It's a brand new computer. When I try to watch a video on the internet, it tells me to install a "missing" plug-in. I ask it to find the plug-in and it says I have all the plug-ins I need, but the video doesn't play. Uhh.. wtf?!

Although the snow let up in intensity and ended altogether hours ago, school has still been cancelled for tommorow! :sign0200: Just over 24" of snow fell on the area late last night and earlier today. Westchester schools announced county-wide closings for Monday by late afternoon, but New York City Schools remained open until the past hour when the decision to cancel classes was made (I attend school in the Bronx). Roads are still a mess and trains will be on a limited schedule tommorow due to the storm. Since most students at my school commute from Westchester by train, I'm pretty sure that's what warranted the closing. I'm especially happy because I've put off…

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/11/plane.crash/index.html how in the hell? reminds us that real human beings have to battle these fires in conditions few would dare set foot near. my heart(i think i still have one) stopped for almost a whole minute before it settled in this might really only be an accident. somehow, im still waiting for the other foot to drop.

Phone companies. Going to the dogs. I swear. I just spent 52 minutes to an MCI call center in Argentina. I ingratiated myself somewhat by speaking entirely in Spanish, which they fully understood. This is my 6th call to MCI since May and a credit has been issued against the final bill, though 1 call back in May should have sufficed. In short: - called MCI to disconnect on May 17th - had to stay in my place 1 month longer, so I called on May 11th to cancel the disconnect...I thought that 6 days prior was enough time - was told that their "system" did not EASILY allow for order cancellations/adjustments once placed because of the fact that they don't own the lines, …

One that says all RV interiors have to be really ugly? I just spent a few hours scanning ads for RVs and every last one of them had a hideous interior full of crazy floral patterns and some very funky colors. I don't get it.

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/internation...1577753,00.html From the Guardian, a serious UK news site - I can't believe this is a serious news article!! Armed and dangerous - Flipper the firing dolphin let loose by Katrina by Mark Townsend Houston Sunday September 25, 2005 The Observer It may be the oddest tale to emerge from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Armed dolphins, trained by the US military to shoot terrorists and pinpoint spies underwater, may be missing in the Gulf of Mexico. Experts who have studied the US navy's cetacean training exercises claim the 36 mammals could be carrying 'toxic dart' guns. Divers and su…
