The 360 degree LED television November 29, 2005 If youβre looking for a new centrepiece for your new entertaining area, the new 360 degree LED display from Dynascan offers exactly that β quite literally. Taiwanese-based Dynascan has been developing the 360 degree LED display for several years now and it is initially being used as an advertising medium in shopping centres and public areas, with an outdoor version just launched too. The first time you see one of the screens youβll understand what the fuss is about β the quality, colour, contrast and definition is extraordinary and the screen is absolutely huge β the third generation of the new LED screens is being introd…

As you've most likely heard, the Prez is presenting a deal to have the government of the United Arab Emirates take control of major ports on the east coast. Do you think that Dubya has finally "lost" it? I can't believe this is actually happening. He even said....and I quote...."if Britain can operate our ports, how are they different from the U.A.E.?" How can you compare Great Britain to ANY middle-eastern country? In my opinion, G.B. is as close to sainthood as you can get when talking about U.S. allies.... I don't intend to get into a huge political debate here.....but IMHO, to give ANY middle-eastern country access to major ports in the U.S. is taking a c…

Recall: Various Volvos, Different DCXs, Few Fords The government announced four auto recalls Wednesday affecting about 300,600 vehicles. More than half of the vehicles being recalled -- 170,099 -- are Volvo passenger cars, station wagons and SUVs from the 1999-2002 model years, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. Volvo Cars of North America, a unit of Ford Motor Co., is recalling vehicle speed controls on some C70, C70 convertible, S60, S70, S80, V70, V70XC and XC70 models. A malfunctioning electronic throttle module may cause the vehicles to unnecessarily go into "limp home" mode, in which the vehicle's speed is limited to 10 to 30 m.p.h., NHTSA s…

Well yeah, since finding out shock-n-awe style on May 15th that the bodyshop I work at would be closed by the end of the munt due to a multi-year drop-off in business (yes, that was today, our last day) despite a golden local reputation that was built over nearly 5 decades, all my staff have been clearly in emotional turmoil. Some have worn it on their sleeves while others have appeared to be resigned (bad word) to the fact almost from the minute of the announcement. Some wished the axe had dropped immediately and more mercifully, instead of two weeks of torture as we choked off our insurance company contracts and watched our business drop to near zero by the end, while…

The road to hell is paved...and striped and called Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. Swerved to avoid a Galant who herself swerved to avoid some baglady who felt like walking out in front of traffic and I caught a ridiculously raised manhole cover. Sure enough, it put a whole in my oil pan. Bad news: it'll cost Β£1100 at the shop in labor alone. Good news: pan itself, I can get for Β£40. I'm going to attempt to do this with a friend of mine over several days next week (I have a Monte Carlo rental now). Sigh...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-BLACK-5-...1QQcmdZViewItem Even though I still like the V10s...I decided that I'd also like a digital camera this summer, among other things...so I went looking through what ebay had to offer...and well...they had a lot...but not much of what I wanted. Plus, it's tough to find styles I like that match the offset of the Intrepid. There's a lot of nice 5-spoke designs...the funny thing is many are stock designs off of Lexus vehicles as well as some Pontiacs. So I've come across these a few times and they match the specs of stock intrepid wheels nicely, the price is pretty good....and they looks pretty good I think...but I'm still not sure…

Okay, I know this is a loaded question, because everybody will have "their" own favorite brand to recommend. A close friend of mine wanted me to go with him 42" LCD TV shopping this afternoon, mainly because he can't fit what he wants to buy in his '05 Grand Prix and needed me for my Envoy (friends with trucks ). I really didn't mind though, because I haven't spent much time with Jeff lately. Anyway, a we started off at Best Buy to see what deals they had. He looked at LG, Samsung, Toshiba, and Sony there. Next was Cicuit City, with pretty much the same offering, but adding in Westinghouse. Last stop was at BJ's Wholesale Club, where he looked at a Philips, Ole…

So we had a pretty major winter storm here in New England last night. It's been crazy weather. Last weekend the temps were in the 10's and 20's, earlier this week they were almost 60 with one storm. Temps dropped back down with this storm that just passed over us, giving a good chunk of New England one of the worst Ice Storms in recent history. Apparently much of the area is without power, although we're lucky and still have it. Here's some photos from this morning. I'll say this: ice is dangerous but it sure looks pretty.

Link to Article Matt Dillon arrested for speeding in Vermont Wed Dec 31, 11:41 am ET BOSTON (Reuters) β Hollywood actor Matt Dillon was arrested and charged with driving at an excessive speed after police clocked him traveling at 106 miles per hour on a Vermont interstate highway. The star of the 2004 movie "Crash" was pulled over at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday in the town of Newbury after he was caught on police radar traveling north at high speed in a rented 2009 Chevrolet Impala, said Vermont State Police Sgt. Tara Thomas. The New York-based 44-year-old actor is scheduled to appear in Vermont's Orange County Court on January 21. If convicted, he faces a maximum …

I'm having a serious and quite horrible case of buyer's remorse. Today, I got up at eight a.m. and drove through Clay, Jackson, Laurel and Rockcastle Counties with the single hope that I would finally find a junkyard with some decent '80s GM iron. The Monte is in desperate need of new gauges (the speedometer and voltmeter are dead, the tach is going out, and the temp gauge now has a broken needle), new interior trim, a new multifunction lever, and a few miscellaneous engine parts, all of which negatively affect my car. The local junkyards pretty much have nothing. The solitary Monte I found at A&A Auto Parts, the junkyard located just 2 miles away from me, had an…

So, I notice yesterday that I'm driving one of those crapbox Lincolns with the busted air shocks. The air shock on the right rear strut finally gave out, so I felt like my Olds was riding on just the springs as that part of the car rebounded jarringly after hitting any small deviation in the road surface. I take it to my buddies at Goodyear/Gemini and they run it up on the perch for me. Yup. Its the shock. Not only that, but the left rear is leaking. Not covered under my ValueGuard (of course) and they quoted me a price of $249 for a set of shocks, labor, tax, etc. I decided to just do it myself and enlist my father to help me (worked out the other way around :P ). I …

So I live about 2 hours south of Chicago, and today there's an article about the Chicago Auto Show, where they ask 4 or 5 "car people" some questions about which vehicle they'd buy in certain classes. How they picked them I do not know (one of them was a Toyota spokesperson, who of course answered with a Toyota product each time, didn't make much sense). Drew was also in the article, and it mentioned C&G. I can't find the article online or I would post it, but I thought it was pretty cool since it was an article written by an editor of the newspaper, not just some random article they took from somewhere else. EDIT: Here is a picture of the article:

Delta Charges U.S. Troops Returning From Afghanistan $2,800 In Baggage Fees WASHINGTON -- Delta Air Lines is facing intense criticism after charging 34 U.S. soldiers returning from Afghanistan $2,800 in baggage fees. The incident came to light on Tuesday after a couple of the new-media savvy soldiers recorded a video about their ordeal and posted it on YouTube. "We showed up and found out we had too many bags," said Army Staff Sgt. Robert O'Hair in the video, which was shot on their flight. "We had four bags, and Delta Air Lines only allows three bags. Anything over three bags you have to pay for, even though there's a contract between the United States government and …

I work in a medium sized architectural firm and, in addition to our local drive, we download other stuff (such as our drawings and such) from a server. I also have a flash drive or thumb drive that I use up at the university at night and on weekends when I do crap for my night classes. Thus far, I have never had problems with a file on my flash drive. Interestingly enough, I got a message on the flash drive while at work, after a crash, that said "Volume is dirty." (Now, I do insert my flash drive, carried on my key ring, into my work computer to work on papers during breaks and on my lunch hour.) Well... it is good, I suppose, to learn where one's breaking point is. After tomorrow, I will have worked 30 of 31 days in January, only taking my B-day off {panicing; ocnblu scans his master list}. Some days were as light as 5 hrs, some as heavy as 11. Apparently, 29 days is about it, as I saw a few instances of failed processing & motor skills today, which is not good when you're a neurologic surgeon. Just kidding: I'm a contractor and have been working on interior renovation of a residential home. It's actually been enjoyable (nothing like being your own boss), tho the creeping brain fog of the past couple of days is a bit offsetting. One big plus: no pesky che…

WASHINGTON - Gasoline prices have jumped above $3 a gallon in some parts of California and Hawaii, and may hit that level in other parts of the country when the busy summer driving season approaches. βIt kills me,β said Gloria Nunez, 53, as she filled her Ford Explorer SUV at a San Jose gas station. Nunez, a clerk for a communications company, has started working a couple hours of overtime each week to help soften the blow. βAll of a sudden you kind of have to watch your pennies,β she said. Analysts say drivers should brace for more increases in the coming weeks. Crude oil, which makes up about half the price of gasoline, is trading above $60 a barrel. Higher demand, r…

If it's not one thing, it's another. My Dell Latitude laptop JUST had the AC adapter replaced because the previous was going bad...I had a new one sent all the way from the Netherlands. As of yesterday, the screen on my laptop started going dark upon being plugged into AC power...it works fine on battery power, but as soon as you plug into the wall, it turns dark gray to the point where you can see things open but it's impossible to read anything on the screen. Two summers ago I had to replace the whole motherboard (after only 1 year of ownership). A few months ago my Y key fell off (and still needs to be put back on) and the very right edge of my monitor does this …

Hi all, I had thorghly enjoyed my ownership experience with my Malibu SS over the last year. Then my brother Got a Mustang and my folks got an Aura and I feel like I have the bland car of the family. The aura destorys the malibu in every way, sick powertrain blows away the 3900 4 speed combo, better styling and features for the price. My brothers Mutang has a deffinet cool factor and the RWD is great though the 4.0 V6 in it is pretty crappy and it has a solid axel and is a ford. So I was thinking what I would do to replace the malibu if I did take the plunge and this is the scheme I came up with IF I decided to get a new car. I decided the only way to …

If I were to get rid of the Riviera and no one wanted to buy it, would it be possible to put the interior into my Delta 88? The reason I'm think about this is because my favorite part of this generation Riviera is the dashboard and interior as a whole. It's retro enough to where it could work with an older car and yet modern enough to have the features I'm now used to. The comfy leather seats, the center console and arm rest. The dash and doors panels becoming "one" Besides the obvious needed measurements, what other challenges would lie ahead in trying to do this?

I went kayaking yesterday for a couple of hours on a calm, peaceful lake. Well, my kayak doesn't have a backrest, so to get paddling decently I hold myself in a semi-reclined position, I find it works better than sitting straight up or laying mostly reclined. The problem is that it kills the abs. In facts, here is the text I sent a couple of people last night as I was floating around the fishing access before I pulled out: One of the replies I got was from my friend Brandon: I didn't even know what to say, I have to admit it was a kinda funny thing for him to say.

Considering the economic realities of the day, What would you guys think of this plan: 1) My wagon is nearly complete mechanically, and I had intended to do The Mothertruck ('88 crew cab 4x4) next. 2) The Mothertruck has a brand-new 4-bolt main GM engine with only 2 miles on it currently installed and needs mostly paint and bodywork to finish it. 3) I have been planning to use a new Ramjet 350 crate engine in my Camino, but that would cost me as much or more than finishing the entire truck would - in addition to the rest of the restoration the Camino will be getting. So, I am thinking that maybe I should just use the EFI 350 from the truck in the Camino and sell …

-- -- -- -- -- Let's just suppose you're a 19-year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley, 11-14-65, LZ X-ray, Vietnam. Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8:1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a hel…

Since we seem to be at each others throats a little bit lately...let's take it "out into the parking lot" and fight over "cars' instead of stupid stuff. Here is what we can argue about-Suppose you have been picked by the Smithsonian to pick ONE GM car as a historical visual "high Water Mark" of North American car production. Let's suppose the Smithsonian will buy an example of this car and put it on permanant prominent public display. What would you pick? Also-Has to be built in North America, so PCS can't flood us with a fleet of Holdens. My pick-58-62 Chevrolet Corvette. To me even better than a 55 Nomad, 65 GTO, or other notable GM cars. That car just has the l…

Last night, I was over looking around at the Cadillac/Chevrolet dealership in Coldwater, and there was a used Seville SLS next to a used STS V6. It is just unbelieveable how far GM's interiors have come in just one generation of its products. Those who haven't compared the then and nows obviously need to take this little factor into consideration. However, I would prefer real aluminum trim in the top level STS's over the real would. The metal looks more modern (to me, at least). Might have done a poll, but don't know how yet, or didn't notice. So, what do you think? Seville Interior STS Interior

Everybody has certain songs that mean something to them or are instantly recognizable when they hear them on the radio--even if for the first time in years. What songs defined your childhood and if you have a memory, list it. Early Childhood Lionel Richie - Dancin' on the Ceiling One of my earliest memories is of this song when I was 2 or so. My dad had this CD and would pick me up and tap my feet on the ceiling...I loved it. Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back in Town I used to listen to the classic rock station a lot when I was little, and this was a song I always heard and liked but could never get fully recorded onto tape from my boombox. It would always come on …

What the heck? The latest thing at work among the guys I am closer to is... ball tapping. They seem to take great pleasure in backhanding each other in the nuts. I tapped this one dude one time (the only time, since I feel funny doing it)... now it seems I'm a marked man. I found a 3 foot high piece of styrofoam in the shape of a tomb stone next to my desk with a message spray painted on it: R.I.P. Bill's nuts So I guess I need to wear a cup to work. Does anyone else have unruly workmates?

From the L.A. Times: A driver lost control of a Ferrari sports car traveling 120 mph along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu this morning, slamming into a power pole that cut the car β which sells for up to $1 million β in half, according to authorities. One man suffered minor injuries. He was identified as Stefan Erikssen, of Bel-Air, said Sgt. Philip Brooks of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The sports car went airborne and struck a power pole 5 to 10 feet off the ground, Brooks said. The car was demolished, but two air bags deployed. "You pay a million bucks for a car, you expect safety," Brooks said. Investigators said they believe the driver was alon…

Driving on my way home this afternoon from work I had the UNpleasure of seeing a pretty bad accident. Police and rescue personnel had not responded yet, however; being a helper on a few friends Volunteer Fire Depts, I responded as best I could. Apparently, a guy driving a relatively new Civic wasn't paying a large amount of attention to what he was doing, changed lanes without looking, ran sidelong into a Kenworth, got turned in front of it, Kenworth driver slammed onto his brakes, Toyota Sequoia driver slammed into the back of the Kenworth's trailer (happened to be hauling logs), then another Honda, this one an Accord ran into the back of the Toyota....after that thing…

One thing that interests me lately about Japanese cars, and culture in general, is their propensity for miniaturization. Our small cars, it seems, are scaled-down big cars, while Japanese cars are engineered in miniature... yet everything seems to work in harmony. Like a Tokyo apartment.

After having it sit around for entirely too long, I've finally decided to put my Fiero up on ebay. It was a fun car while I had it(I loved the handling), but now with the baby and the wedding coming up, its time to go . http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Goodbye, my friend.

Got into a car accident today. I was taking a left leaving a shopping mall & the car (an '02 Sienna minivan -> damn yota's) across from me ran his stop sign. My '04 Malibu took it in the passenger front-corner -- HARD. Both airbags deployed (what a treat that was -- do you like smoke?). Bumper was crushed, hood caved in, fendor damaged. For those that aren't familiar with the Malibu, the pass.-side airbag is hidden behind the dash -- and when it deploys, it punches a hole in your dash to explode outward. I calc $3k in parts on the inside of my car alone (2 airbags + dash + labor). Car was still drivable -- but it did get pounded -- and NO I didn't take pict…

Went to my local Chevrolet dealer trying to figure out if I could test drive a Sonic nRS...Ocnblu has me thinking... But Eve, the saleswoman I usually talk to, says that there are no Sonic RS's available within 600 miles. Is this thing special order only? Also, I would really like to own one, but am worried about a lot of instant negative equity as small cars usually depreciate like crazy, and this thing is a little pricey... Although it does seem like one heck of a car. Info, please? Thoughts?

Mornin' fellas, and ladies. Alas, I will be going to the World of Wheels car show in Atlanta today. I'll be more than sure to take plenty of pictures and drool on at least a car or two. I dunno if any of you are going, probably not, but if you are, maybe I'll see ya there. For now, adios.

Great band, one of the ones from the 90s that I think will be still be remembered long after the fact. It's one of the few bands where they have changed their style throughout the years yet I still enjoy it all. My favorite album is Siamese Dream. My favorites on it are Soma, Disarm, Cherub Rock, and Mayonnaise. Soma is just a kick ass song, one of the best ones put out by SP IMHO. People complained about Adore's change of direction but I like it. And even though Machina didn't sell well, it's a great album with a lot of good songs. One thing SP never seemed to do was sell out their sound to become more mainstream. They always did their own thing and a lot of thei…
