Been ignoring my shop & the projects in it for FAR FAR FAR too long, busy with work (and making a few excuses along the way). But it's a wonder what cleaning up something to the point of making it more inviting to be in, can do. I have a tentative 'rental' looking to move into Bay 3, tho today I got a call: the guy found a garage closer to his home. If it doesn't get arranged by next weekend, my buddy -the current 'landlord'- told the owner it's coming here at least for June. If not, I very well may open it for rent (domestics older than 1975 only !! ) 05-30-09 :: All sorts of flotsam to see: 2 pedestal fans, my 2-ton engine hoist, 2 disassembled D…

Just a few days over 20 years ago people got killed by the Chinese army for daring to speak against the government. Now they're allowing a gay pride parade... Shanghai Pride At least the Chinese government seems able to change, rather than riding their ideology into the ground like the USSR did.

This guy: (Senor Wolfenstein @ the wheel) ...has now had its lower left fascia mangled by a raccoon strike at 70mph by the people who got it after I did. I know how he feels...the exact same thing happened to me with an R32 last year. Damn near happened with the CC. Apparently I have a thing with VW's and raccoons.

CONCORD — It's official: No matter what the Massachusetts Supreme Court decides, New Hampshire won't be collecting sales taxes from Bay Staters who stray over the border to do their shopping. Yesterday, New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch applauded the final passage of a bill protecting New Hampshire businesses from having to collect sales and use taxes on behalf of Massachusetts and other states. The bill, sponsored by Seabrook's Sen. Maggie Wood Hassan, D-Exeter, received final approval by the Senate during its Wednesday session and now goes to Lynch, who will surely sign it. When the issues first arose, Lynch called the attempted tax grab by Massachusetts "outrageous." …

So I was all set to go buy a nice LCD flat screen this week. I figured I would get one of the Bravias or this Samsung: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1218076081627 I walk into Best Buy and Samsung's new LED TV was there: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1218065985439 Man its incredible. Hanging next to the LCD's, it's pretty easy to see how much better the LED is. Originally I was thinking I'd spend about as much as the Samsung LCD is. Heh, but how can I not get the superior LED product? Anyone have an uncle who works at Best Buy? Anyone know a reason I shouldn't get the LED? I swear, we have the worst luck with bottom feeders. We've been through 3 so far this year. I'm not sure what the issue is. Tested the water, everything was good. It was treated with medication shortly after we got our last Pleco. Temperature is in the right range, salt levels are good. This one turned up dead yesterday. I'd never seen the other fish pick on/at it, and it showed no signs of being attacked when I found it...although by teh time I got it out of teh water they had picked at it... Meanwhile, the two Silver Tips "Sharks" are happy as can be. Weird.

I've read that with the free trail versions of Photoshop, you can't save, print, or export. Has anyone downloaded it to either verify or dismiss that? I'm getting fairly sick of my existing photo editing software and have been looking into Photoshop. I don't want to go through the trouble of downloading such a large program if I'm only going to be able to play with it and it's certainly too expensive to buy outright. As well, I would want to look into alternate programs. Either way, what I have is going to be replaced. Help is appreciated.

So as you guys saw, I've been trying to round up what's left of my old models, with the goal of trying to fix them and make them better than they were. This is something I've wanted to do for a while, and started with one of them, but lost some of the parts and haven't really progressed much. Since my car is at the shop and the Prizm is all clean, I've been pretty bored, so yesterday I decided to tackle one of my other old B-17's, this one a B-17F by Revell. I actually have two of these and parts of a third, all of them broken, but I figured maybe I could make one good one out of two. Here's the results so far:

Is it any wonder we as Americans are lard asses? Not more than half an hour ago, I was able to order a Papa John's pizza online... medium pepperoni & black olive, baked well done, without getting off my ass. So I finally got the Buick home, and it actually accelerates and doesn't smoke or smell like gas or exhaust. But I never fixed the other little things, so its a kinda hollow victory. Still no new radio, no cruise control and the headliner is still duct taped up. And it needs a windshield. But at least we'll be able to get the kayaks to the lake without having to pray they dont act like a sail on the Prius. In the long term, I think I'm going to reverse my stance and say that I'll be willing to yank the 307 in favor of something a little ballsier. Also, I got my bike rebuilt and put a new seat on it, but that also feels hollow, mostly because I want a new bike.

Well, as most of your know (or maybe don't know), I've been driving around in Chevy Luminas since I was a youngin' with a learner's permit. My first car was a '90 Euro, and my current is a '94 Euro, both 4-door sedans with the 3100. I've had the '94 now for 5 years and have racked on 70,000 additional miles (bought it with 80,000 originally). I've been saving up and am finally going to replace the old jalopy, although it will still be kept in the family as a beater car back home. It has an AC leak that will cost more than the car with worth to repair, and the rust and hail damage are major chick repellents. At the Ford dealer back home, there is a 2001 Lincoln LS V8…

Okay....I've read a rumor, and maybe you guys have heard it.....that Car & Driver might be leaving Ann Arbor to combine many operations with it's sister mag, Road & Track, in Newport Beach, CA.? At first, I thought "no" because....didn't they just move into new editorial offices in Ann Arbor? Then I read that one of the reasons Csaba Csere (who I've always liked) left C&D at the end of last year was because he didn't like the direction the magazine was taking....and admist rumors that they were leaving Michigan to move to CA to combine many operations with R&T (which would make some economic sense considering they are both owned by the same publisher..…

SAN FRANCISCO – California's Supreme Court upheld the state's gay-marriage ban Tuesday but said the estimated 18,000 same-sex weddings that took place before the prohibition passed are still valid — a ruling decried by gay-rights activists as a hollow victory. Demonstrators outside the court booed, wept and yelled, "Shame on you!" Activists said they would go back to the voters as early as next year in a bid to repeal the ban, and a federal lawsuit seeking to overturn it was filed late last week. In a 6-1 decision written by Chief Justice Ron George, the court rejected arguments that the ban approved by the voters last fall was such a fundamental change in the Califor…

In other words, what says "hey, I'm worth a second look", despite being a configuration you generally wouldn't consider? I ask this because I think that is where the winners in the market are to be found. I'm not saying that you'd necessarily follow through with a purchase of a given example, but that it engenders a level of positive respect that you can't quite deny. An example of such a product that just barely fits this category for me is the Ford Flex - it is interesting and individual enough that I have to give it some credit. Others are more automatic entries on my list…

I went out for a little bike ride to work off last nights cookout, I went on a gravel trail that I've been riding for years. Somehow I managed to wipe out, even better I did it about 4 miles from civilization. I scraped my knees and elbows and managed to not whack my head on anything, which is always a plus. But my bike took a fair bit of abuse. The rear derailleur is all jacked up and the brake cable snapped, so I had to ride 4 miles back to the car without being able to shift and without rear brakes. It was fantastic. Even better, it started pouring on the way back, so I got to do the last mile in the rain, which at least washed all the blood off.

A forumite at Gixxer claims he poured two 20 oz. bottles of NOS into his motorcycle's fuel tank because it was "running like crap." There's only one "NOS" that comes in 20 oz. sizes — the energy drink. Forum troll or honest-to-goodness recollection of an epic failure? You decide. Although we're not positive if this is a forum troll or an honest-to-goodness recollection of an epic failure, but here's the breakdown from the top. Catch the thread here. Gixxer.com user/Rainman "sti2gsxr" started off the party by posting about some mechanical issues he's been having recently: My bike was running like crap on my way home from work so I stopped at a gas station to get some…

What would it be? Personally, I'd do something like a double feature, with both movies based on the original Smokey and the Bandit. One movie would be similar in spirit to the original film, but feature a different car, altered plot and storylines, and different characters. This film would be titled Eighteen (for the amount of time the truck full of Coors had to be transported across state lines in Smokey; it would also be the deadline given in this film), and the main character would have to run blocker in a black 2010 Camaro SS RS for a truck containing pounds upon pounds of illegal drugs for a drug lord in Atlanta (hell, why not have Burt Renyolds play that part?) an…

The Cruze is being introduced to the US in 2010 and so is BAS II. GM has stated that BAS II is platform flexible, unlike BAS I. The press release and interviews about BAS II seemed to focus alot around the use of a turbo with the system. Could GM be "smart" enough to introduce BAS II with the Cruze? What about the Orlando? If the combined gas mileage for a 1.4L Turbo Cruze was 32 mpg, which is not unreasonable considering statements made by the company, than a Cruze with the 1.4L Turbo, with flexfuel capability, and BAS II could/should be 38 to 39 combined mpg. That would provide some major help to GMs EPA #s and would be great PR.

I know the Canadian stuff hasn't been officially been released but the guy who owns my dealer was on the news yesterday to announce that they had not received the GM Death Notice. I'm wondering how many people here have had the dealer that they frequent get slashed in the last week?

I remember quite a while ago, someone posted figures about the 'most North American' vehicles, where they factored in where the parts were sourced, etc. Does anyone know where I can find these figures, or updated ones?

A BPG dealer I've had contact with over the past 5-6 months regarding some of their used/GM Certified inventory has had the following 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi sedan available for the past two months now: It has a tad less than 71k original miles on it, is a fully loaded SSEi model, and from the pictures and e-mails I've received from the sales lady, the car is in excellent condition for its age. The price they're asking is a little high IMO, but as with all used cars I'm sure it could be negotiated to something better. What I'd like to know is if it would be a smart decision to purchase a 9 year-old car like this, especially since a 24-36 month loan woul…

Yep, another accident, this time involving a plane. The force of the impact was strong enough to push the motor back and crack the firewall in several places.

Well I also updated the orginal forum with the car but decided to start a new topic about this... The 2005 Chevrolet Impala LS as many of you may know that I plan on getting (when his new Impala comes in.) This is only a remote start system no aftermarket alarm or security has been added from Viper or anyone else. This is a Viper remote start system. It was installed by a pro audio/tint shop in my area who has a good rep, if this was done right will this system give me any problems? Also if it would at some point can they be removed or at least the module? I did try the remote start, aux button with does the trunk and the lock and unlock and had no problem with it. The sy…

[source: MSN] 'Missing link' primate likely to stir debate Scientists announce 47 million-year-old find amid media hoopla A discovery of a 47 million-year-old fossil primate that is said to be a human ancestor was announced and unveiled Tuesday at a press conference in New York City. Known as "Ida," the nearly complete transitional fossil is 20 times older than most fossils that provide evidence for human evolution. It shows characteristics from the very primitive non-human evolutionary line (prosimians, such as lemurs), but is more related to the human evolutionary line (anthropoids, such as monkeys, apes and humans), s…

Here is the question-you are producing a big bucks Hollywood movie with a script you've written. The villan/anti-hero dies at the end in a brutal car wreck that ends his (or her) life and the life of the car in a spectacular fashion. What would be a great, sinister car to blow up? Here are my thoughts- 1. Modern Porsche (cayman perhaps) painted black. 2. Suicide door moredoor lincoln from the 1960's, again, black. Would hate to destroy a vintage car, but we could use a Parts car as a stand in. Great anti hero car, suprised it hasen't been used more. 3. What else? 69 Charger R/T. Every other 69 Charger ever made has been destroyed in movies-TV, why not anoth…
