Driving on my way home this afternoon from work I had the UNpleasure of seeing a pretty bad accident. Police and rescue personnel had not responded yet, however; being a helper on a few friends Volunteer Fire Depts, I responded as best I could. Apparently, a guy driving a relatively new Civic wasn't paying a large amount of attention to what he was doing, changed lanes without looking, ran sidelong into a Kenworth, got turned in front of it, Kenworth driver slammed onto his brakes, Toyota Sequoia driver slammed into the back of the Kenworth's trailer (happened to be hauling logs), then another Honda, this one an Accord ran into the back of the Toyota....after that thing…

Ugh...my Y key on my laptop just broke off, so now everytime I want to press it, I have to fumble around for the little rubber nob that it originally stuck to. Pain in the ass. I'm really tempted to take a tiny dab of superglue and put it back on myself, but since this is a lease laptop, I should probably just do it the correct way and have it taken in to get fixed. You'd be amazed how often you use the letter 'y' and don't even realize it. Oh well, at least another vowel like 'a' or 'e' didn't break off, otherwise I'd be even more frustrated. Ironically, the y key broke off when I typed the word "Camry" in my last post. Damn you, Dell. I've only had this for a …

Father died at the beginning of the project, son was almost killed by the project....but yet every type of auto uses this THING they developed together. If your thinking along the lines of Piston, you are wrong, as the Mazda RX-7 and RX-8 use this, and they don't have pistons...if your thinking steering wheel the 1903 Curved dash Olds used a tiller and used this..so steering wheel and windshield fail. We will have to go get it and tow it back. It is only $1100 and needs emergency brake cables to be certified. The only other thing needed is bodywork to be done. There is some rust. The vinyl top and interiors are mint and all the chrome is as well. Plus it is a hardtop coupe. Here it is 1976 Dodge Royal Monaco hardtop. It would make a good restoration.

At a charity event yesterday, Both Obama and McCain gave comedic speeches intended to poke fun at each other and themselves. Interspersed in the speeches were moments of seriousness without the political rancor that poisons most of the things they have been saying lately. It was a breath of fresh air. Obama did a nice job and had some great lines. But McCain killed! He was so funny that not only was I laughing out loud, but so was Obama. Hillary Clinton damn near fell out of her chair - I have never seen her smile so much. The mostly Democratic crowd was roaring. And, in the moments of seriousness, McCain displayed the graciousness and humility that makes him one …

Here's the lowdown: This fall, chances that I'll finally find something to drive are looking good. I'm hoping to God I'll manage to be driving a classic first-generation Pontiac Firebird, but I'm not going to bet the bank on it. I've considered some other options that fit my criteria (it has to be rear-drive) so I can have a backup plan just in case things don't turn out the way I have planned them to. I've considered more modern cars, too, and Cadillac's Catera has made it's way onto my list. The car is okay as is. But a thought crossed my mind: if I do end up driving one of these, could I graft the nose of the GTO onto a Catera? And with a little bit of fabrication a…

We've reported on Toyota Australia's TRD Aurion before -- it's basically the Camry we want but can't have. With a much better-looking face and 323 supercharged horses underhood, the Aussie-built sedan is inherently more appealing than the vanillamobile available at our local Toyota stores. And now the fuzz has them, too. Earlier this month, the Queensland police welcomed some of the "regular" Aurions into its white-liveried standard fleet. It crystalizes in a joint (most commonly your big toe) and causes you a intense pain. The first time I had it, I couldn't stand the weight of my bed-sheets touching my big toe -- yes, it hurts that flipping bad. Well, it appears that I've got it in my small-toe -- and it hurts like a mother. Just got out of the doctor (they also found a lump in my wallet, badump-bump) & picked up my prescription. To do high speed rail...we would need to fund the system adequately. A recent estimate for a line between Milwaukee and Madison was $810 million....and that rate per mile...it would cost about eight or ten billion dollars just to put a basic system into Ohio. Not that I would mind spending the money...I'd spend it here rather than on another carrier group we are never going to use. But we can''t just cough up 7 and a half billion dollars out of an already short Ohio treasury to do so. Want to see what happens with the high speed trains on the coasts as this will get interesting.

At institutions that train students for careers in areas like health care, computers and food service, enrollments are soaring as people anxious about weak job prospects borrow aggressively to pay tuition that can exceed $30,000 a year. But the profits have come at substantial taxpayer expense while often delivering dubious benefits to students, according to academics and advocates for greater oversight of financial aid. Critics say many schools exaggerate the value of their degree programs, selling young people on dreams of middle–class wages…

How about a chop of the year? Anybody who wants to can submit a photo of their best chop of THIS YEAR ONLY! It can be any car photoshop, even if it was not posted here on C&G. Then, after a deadline, we vote! The winner could be posted on the homepage if wanted. Now, nobody should make fun of other's chops they think are good (if they submit.) I have been through plenty of tough criticism and rude comments, and here is where it is especialy unwanted. Any crude or inappropriate comments should not be posted here. Deadline would be January 5, 2007, but since it is the holidays, extensions will gladly be given.

Good evening! Its been a while since Ive posted outside the Merchandise forum. My lease on my '17 Traverse is coming to an end in the next couple months. Once again, I am not finding many good deals on GM vehicles at the moment. I am holding out a little longer, to see how incentives go. I just cant fathom that the same trim level Traverse in the new body style is ~125-150 more a month. Last time I ran into this with the car, I ended up buying a Charger since I couldnt get what I wanted from GM. Now on my third Charger, I dont regret it. I have been seeing ads for the new '19 Ram with a great lease price. Could I end up with no GM vehicles in the next two mo…

It had to be a late model last-gen car because it had the polished, non-5 spoke rims on it. It really hit home for me, seeing this car, that Pontiac should have offered a six cylinder alternative available on the GTO body shell, called it a LeMans or Tempest, and watched the sales come in much better than the $32k V8 Goat. I firmly believe that a six cylinder model would have ensured the GTO's success, and there would have been no question there'd be a modern gen II car.

There's a dealership in Toronto dumping their remaining '06 Tauruses for CAD$13,988. For comparison, the bloody Aveo is CAD$12,995, and the Cobalt is $14,930. If I was in the market for a car that big right now, I might even look past the fact that it's a F**d.

Well, today I didn't have much going on and was going to drive out and see some tornado damage, but most of the roads were blocked off so I decided to go dealer hopping instead. The first place I went to was Willey Ford-Lincoln-Mercury in Ames. They had 3 Fusions, 1 Milan, 1 Zephyr, 5 Mustangs (all V6s...I never saw any GT on the entire trip), 4 Montegos, 2 Five Hundreds, and 3 of the new '06 Grand Marquis. The CD3 trio looks great in person...after seeing all three, the Zephyr is now my favorite. It's funny because I used to not like the Zephyr, but seeing it in real life is a whole different story. There's so much brightwork that really makes it sta…

This weekend I'll be heading out to the mountain biking mecca Moab, Utah. Driving to Detroit, flying from there to Denver, then doing this in a rental "Premium SUV" (Suburban or Expedition EL) Spending a week biking and whitewater rafting there in Moab, then one day in Fruita, CO on the way back to Denver.

Yup, the Colorado has been recalled for a potentially faulty brake light switch at the pedal. I got the letter yesterday. Affected vehicles will either have inoperative brake lights, or "always on" brake lights. Cruise control will also be inoperative because the circuit runs through that switch. I haven't had a problem with my truck, but I'll still take it in to have it done. It will be 3 years old end of next month, it's a first-year model and this is the first recall notice I've gotten for it. I'd say that's not a bad record, comparatively. I can only hope the new truck is as good. And thanks again, Mr. Fly, for the heads up a while back.

I don't think we need a new thread each month for this one, but I though a place to post pics of neat/interesting motorcycles would be fun. I spotted this at the local AdvanceAuto. I like the boxes he has on the side.

My parents really want our old car back so they heard about the whole history report thing so they want to track down the vehicle. They really want it back for a vehicle for me and we believe it is one from the good batch. It is our beloved 1989 Chrysler Dynasty LE. I want to see possibly where it went and track it down if possible. We got rid of it in 2002 with just over 120k on it I believe. It had no body rust even and ran great. It had a V6 and blue cloth interior with bench seat. It was dark blue on the outside. This car has great sentimental value and we realize now we should've kept it. I am just afraid to find it salvaged or something. I would really appreciate it…

  92. Stephen Downer Automotive News September 14, 2007 - 3:01 pm EST MEXICO CITY — It may take until Tuesday, Sept. 18, for six auto assembly plants in Mexico to resume production. The plants suspended operations as a result of bomb attacks Monday, Sept. 10, on energy pipelines in southern Mexico. Natural gas supplies should resume gradually between Sunday night, Sept. 16, and early Monday. Martha Avelar, a spokeswoman for Mexican energy monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, told Automotive News today. Normal supplies probably will be restored by midday or late afternoon Tuesday, she added. If service is restored Monday, it would likely take until Tuesday’s fir…

  93. Heading home after going to a wake for my friend's grandfather, I'm in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway, slowing down for a red light. Noone's in front of me, and cars are on either side of me. Just as I'm about to pass a white GMC cable truck that's on my right, said cable truck juts out into my lane. I can't do anything but jam on the brake pedal and hope for the best. I nail him in the tire, and he takes out my front bumper, scrapes my fender and headlight, and knocks out assorted plastic parts that I can't identify right now because I'm so pissed. The driver is very clearly out of it, either via alcohol or pot or something. The cop gets there and doesn't pay any mi…

Alright... want to do me a favor? I want you to listen to this one song and give me your opinion on it. It's "I won't see you tonight, Part 1" by Avenged Sevenfold. Do it however you can. Here's a link to MSN Music if you want to do it that way: MSN: A7X: Song #9 It might cost money. Anyways, this is because I absolutely love this song. It's the best rock song I've heard since Guns N Roses' time. It also happens that all of A7X's music is some the best rock I've heard since their time with beautifully written music. The only downfall may be the lyrics. They're not for everybody. If you can't tell by the name of the band, they're somewhat Punk/Goth... especially on "Waki…

Well, I am on vacation next week, and boy, do I need it. Relaxation. New scenery. No schedule. Sounds so good. This morning, I am heading up to Tioga County, PA, to join family for a cookout for Dad at my brother's cabin. Should be a good time. I return tomorrow evening, and then everything's wide open. The beach, camping... not sure what I'll do, but at least it won't be in that office. For all you Dads, Sons and Daughters, have a good Father's Day.

It also can't have any large amounts of body damage bigger than a ding. Engine must be clean. No oil or dirt on the engine. Not only is it a sign of engien problems but also of poor maintenance. The interior must be in good shape, nothing broken and everything must work. It also must attractively designed. Materials are …
