Let me make this clear, this is not a rumor, nor is it speculation (well, maybe just a tiny bit), it is a suggestion to GM. If it makes sense to you, and you like these product suggestions then you may want to lobby GM, directly and through your local Pontiac dealer. The first GM plant to cease production is the Oklahoma City plant that currently makes the extended wheelbase GMC Envoy XL, Chevy Trailblazer EXT and Isuzu Ascender EXT. Also, the re-engineered Envoy and Trailblazer has been pushed back a few years. All eyes turn to the Lambda crossover architecture which may very well replace GM’s body-on-frame mid-sizers. There are currently 2400 employees at the plant, a plant in which GM spent millions to rebuild after a tornado destroyed parts of the building in 2003. The Envoy/TB/Ascender thread inspired me to look at the US Isuzu web page. I can't believe how much cheaper the Isuzu versions are from their GM counterparts. 5-passenger Ascender: $20,459 5-passenger Trailblazer: $27,410 7-passenger Ascender: $22,498 7-passenger Trailblazer: $29,030 i-280 ext. cab: $14,239 4-cyl Colorado ext. cab: $18,365 The only one on the Isuzu site that seems expensive in comparison, very close to the comparable Chevy, is the i-350 crew cab, at $24,608. The only reason that I have been able to come up with as to why GM would delay/cancel the NG Malibu and ION (both of which were supposed to be awesome -- and we know the ION was) is that now they're concentrating on the several new crossovers they have planned. I remember a discussion a while back in which our insiders told us that GM thinks crossovers are going to be the key to the future. I've been thinking about GM becoming more global and whatnot, and how platforms will now be engineered for use around the world as well as other vehicle componets. But, what about engines? Are the HV V6s used anywhere other than North America? Wouldn't it be easier (and save costs) to produce millions of HF V6s globally and use them in everything that needs a V6? I'm not starting this thread to necessarily put down the HV V6s, but the HF V6s are clearly better and it seems the only reason for GM not putting them in more cars is cost. Ok, hear me out, but.. Didn't GM have digital dashes back in the mid-to-late eighties? It was panned as being too gimmicky. Didn't Chevrolet used to have ABS as standard equipment? Yes, I do realize that the image posted below is a bit of a reach, however there's something under wraps seen in the image. Could we be looking at a rear spoiler covered up under the tarp, and possible dual exhaust outlets next to what appear to be a bumper integrated liscense plate holder? Okay, I just glanced at the Solstice review in the pontiac section and it said fuel ecconomy of 20-28 20 on the street and 28 on the highway... where as the miata is 24-28 24 on the street and 28 on the highway... for most of GM models it seems their city mileage is below everyone elses where as the highway mileage is competative... Why is there such a big gap on GM vehicles?

This is a long a term strategy and may be the thing needed to make GM cars wanted by the public again. I think that GM needs to bring the Holden and Opel nameplates to N. America. I don't wanna get rid of Buick, Pontiac, or Saturn, but I think the names need to be changed. Pontiacs and Buicks are just not in people's minds anymore when they think of buying a car.
