http://gm-volt.com/2008/08/13/chevy-volt-u...ing-in-our-way/ Seem to me that the drive setup would already have been taken care of... and $10k to replace the battery? One better hope it'll run well past the 150k mile warranty period to make buying the car worthwhile.

At January's Detroit Auto Show, GM pulled the wraps off of one of the most highly anticipated new cars of the year – the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, also known as the C7 or seventh-generation 'Vette. The introduction of the new Corvette marked the return of the LT1-moniker to GM's new-generation small-block V8 engines, the revivial of the Stingray name itself, as well as an interior finally worthy of a car intended to fight on a stage with such cars like the Porsche 911 and numerous other sports cars and supercars from Europe. To the dismay of loyal 'Vette enthusiasts, the new Stingray also marked the end of more traditional Corvette styling cues such as round taill…

It has been a few months since we last reported on the mid-engine Corvette. But thanks to a spy photographer, we have some new pictures of the mid-engine model which gives us some new details. The pictures show the mid-engine Corvette playing around with a couple of ZR1 prototypes in the snow. When put next to the ZR1 prototype, the mid-engine Corvette's proportions are very different - short front end and long rear end. It appears the mid-engine prototype is also sporting massive air intakes in the rear fenders. We still don't know anything about the mid-engine Corvette's powertrain. We've been hearing the possibility of a 6.2L DOHC V8 to a turbocharged V6. …

PT Cruiser This! By Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit Date posted: 12-14-2007 The 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS does not want to kill you. This cannot be said of all its competitors. We don't want to name names here, so let's just say that the HHR SS has really only one direct competitor, the Dodge Caliber SRT-4. This competitor acts like a drug-addled co-driver who grabs the steering wheel and saws wildly if you dare to use more than a feather's touch of throttle. What the hell are we talking about? Why our old buddy torque steer, of course — that troublesome houseguest of powerful front-drive cars. But the HHR SS badly wants to be your friend. And despite a few r…

Can't beleive it!! First I saw a Yukon factory test vehicle on the Hwy last Thursday and today I was driving getting ready to turn onto the Hwy and here comes a all white '07 Tahoe!! No tape, no camo... just like you'd see it on the showroom. I recognized it from a few hundred feet down the road. These new GMT-900's are distinctive. When I saw the Yukon last week I recognized the tail lights from a distance and it was starting to get dusk when I saw it. So this "it looks like an expedition" bs is just bs in my opinion. Maybe in pics on the internet but they are distinctive out on the road in person.

I got to take a short drive in a Hydrogen Fuel cell Equinox Saturday. This was my first chance to try a electric GM product. While it was powered by a Hydrogen electric fuel cell it gave me some idea of what to expect of acceleration of the electric drivetrain that is not the same but similar in many respects to the Volt. The torqe is like right now. I spun the tires into the traction control and it did not stop till I lifted down the track. It had plenty of pep. It was dead quiet accept for a little electric motor noise that a radio would cover easy. The dash has a meter to show electric use vs a tach. Coasting it would show the regenerative power going back in. …

Making my daily rounds to every GM site I noticed that Chevy has something new and well pretty cool if you ask me called Chevy Nation. It is a computer generated town with new and old Chevy's cruising around like '64 Impala's to a new HHR. The cool part is you can into a chop-shop and view videos and do other interactive stuff in 2 other areas currently with a few more on the way. Listen to songs with Chevy in them, look at lyrics and download posters and much more. I spent a good hour exploring the first part of that is launched and was so impressed. Please guys take and a look and leave your comments... Here is the link! Chevy Nation Most importantly enjoy!

GM sees "showdown" with Toyota on electric car Thu Nov 15, 2007 9:09 AM GMT | By Kevin Krolicki | Link to Original Article @ Reuters LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - General Motors is on track to road test its Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid early next year and to produce the rechargeable car by late 2010, setting the stage for a "showdown" with Toyota, a senior GM executive said on Wednesday. As the race to bring a mass-market, rechargeable electric vehicle to market heats up, Bob Lutz, GM's head of global product development, said the largest U.S. automaker remained on track to launch the Chevy Volt in November 2010. "A lot of our team members working on the Volt keep telling…

Not the best or most thorough comparison, but still makes a lot of good points, with the Ford prevailing in the end: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...photopanel..1.* I'll say it again, too. We have an '04 Suburban, and my mother is a GM SUV lover, but I've now seen and played with several '07 GMT-900's and a couple '07 Expeditions, and I'd choose the Expedition hands down. Much better sorted packaging, more realistic and not inflated pricing (still a bit of an issue with the GM's), more sophisticated and refined under the skin (with the Ford MUCH improved even over the previous model), and just a very well done package throughout. Still love a lot about t…

It was just anounced that Roush for the first time will start to offer some aftermarket parts like tuners for GM truck. Can we see this as a look into the future? I posted a statment from someone a while ago from GM that There was a chance of a Roush Camaro. Either way We sell Roush products at work and they have some real quality items, not inexpensive but great quality. I see Roush products only being a big plus for Chevy and GM owners and I hope this leads to bigger and better things. Roush has always done a lot of work for GM but kept it quite. In the last year that has changed and we are seeing his company doing this for GM and not hiding it like the GX…

2007 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ - 2nd Quarter Update Suburban takes on every challenge By WES RAYNAL AND BOB GRITZINGER | Link to Original Review @ AutoWeek If our long-term Chevrolet Suburban has taught us anything in its first six months in our hands, it is this: Sometimes you find yourself in situations that require hauling huge piles of gear or a boatload of people, or both. In those cases, the Suburban has no peer. Simple, no? For proof that the Suburban is one of the more useful vehicles on the planet (and the most requested in our fleet), consider that we’ve put 17,043 miles on it in just six months. Chevrolet release the EPA estimated range of 238 miles for the Chevy Bolt yesterday. A few publications released their experiences exceeding that, with some going as high as 250 miles on a single charge. With most of the affordable EV's having ranges between 90 - 120 miles, a lot of fuss has been made over electric vehicle range anxiety. So far, Telsa is the only manufacturer to offer vehicles with ranges over 200 miles, that are also supplemented by a network of free fast charging stations only for Tesla owners. While the Bolt doesn't have a manufacturer supplied charging network, there is a vast network of free and pay chargers out there. Plugged into a Le…

The November 5th issue of Autoweek offers great praise for the new Malibu. They praised the ride, styling, handling, trunks space, fit and finish. Som in the group compare the car the the VW Passat. They said the ride is a littler firmer than the avverage Chevy but that is what they need to attract the new buyers. The car tested was the LTZ. They also noted the Chrome trim was a great touch. They were also impressed it was the first Chevy to attract attention [outsid…

If you're a truck manufacturer and have decided to build an off-road special, sooner or later you will be entering it a desert race to prove its merit. Ford and Toyota have done it with their respective models, and soon Chevrolet will be joining this crowd with the Colorado ZR2. The truck seen here was developed and built by Hall Racing. Competing in the Best in the Desert’s General Tire “Vegas to Reno” (the longest off-road race in the U.S), the Colorado ZR2 will be in class 7300, reserved for stock mid-size trucks and SUVs. The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a hot car. Both in terms of performance and problems. Motor1 reports that Chevrolet will be introducing improvements for the Z06's cooling in 2017. Tadge Juechter, Corvette executive chief engineer said a small number of Z06 owners were experiencing heatsoak or overheating issues when running their models hard on the track. Juechter said this group was small, but very vocal with this issue. Chevrolet says full details about the changes will be announced later this year, but did say one of the changes will be a new hood with improved cooling vents. Source: Motor1.com View full article

Word is General Motors will show a Camaro concept on a stretched Kappa (Solstice, Sky) chassis. The car is set for production as a 2009 model, sources say. The other GM concept for Detroit won’t be a Pontiac Firebird, but more likely will be a Buick crossover. Don't know how accurate this is yet, but will be a big blow to those claiming the Kappa could not be stretched. Fbodfather said last Feb a V8 would fit in the Kappa, so that may have been a clue back then? Note the 2009 fits when the W body is to die and …

On January 24, 2013 Bob Maguire Chevrolet in Bordentown, NJ (Burlington County) posted a sign on their dealership's main door that they were closed for good. After 35 years of being in business, plus being one of the first Saturn dealer frnachises in the country and once having the largest GM parts warehouse on the East Coast, they closed suddenly with no advanced knowledge to their customers (many of whom had service appointments that day). Last weekend I drove by Classic Chevrolet in Moorestown, NJ (also Burlington County). Their lot was empty, with a ring of used cars surrounding the perimeter fence in the back of the dealership. Again, no advanced notice to custom…

Not Your Typical Volt Review Gene Weingarten is not your typical automotive journalist. that's because he isn't one. In fact by his own admission he has very little knowledge of the automotive world. What Weingarten is however, is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning writer for The Washington Post. He also has a preexisting bias against American cars, and went into the review with a disdain for the Volt. He wanted very badly to hate the car. However what he found in actuality was not what he expected. Head over to his review, and have a good read. Its worth the five pages. Gene and the Machine: The shocking truth about the electric Volt

I was in a Ford dealer this weekend. The salesman was talking up their new engines for 2011, saying he got to test drive a ecoboost V6 and of course it was the best thing ever! Any news on GM's Gen V V8's? Are they going to be introduced prior to the 2013 redesign or will GM have upgraded engines out sooner to compete with Ford's new offerings? I'm planning on upgrading my Sierra sometime but haven't been impressed enough with anything to warrant the cost.

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 27, 2012 Remember the 2007 Volt concept? It was a muscular, bold, and imposing electric vehicle. Compare it to the production Volt and the two almost have nothing to share, aside from name, powertrain, and some design ideas. Recently at a event in San Francisco. John Cafaro, Director of Exterior Design for Chevrolet gave some indications and clues as to what to expect in the next-gen Volt. Cafaro mentioned how the guys at Chevrolet were impressed with what Opel did to the Ampera to make more aggressive. "We're going to do some things with the Volt down the road, make it a little more monochromatic, a little mo…

Rumors from GMI said a regular cab SS with almost 400hp would become available sometime in 2006. Does anyone have any information that will confirm or deny those rumors. Have not seen anything lately, just wondering if anyone might have some good info about this. Thanks

This was sent to me from Scott Settlemire: Good afternoon, Camaro Comrades and Firebird Friends! The Camaro/Firebird community is one of the most generous and kind communities - our Clubs and Websites have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities both national and local. Whenever there's need, you've come thru with your generosity. Jason Debler and Chris Frezza auction off --with regularity-- a number of items with the proceeds going to charity. In fact, their last item raised over $500 for a local charity. I'm attaching some information about a very special "Green Light Camaro Green Machine" - with proceeds going to the American Red Cross. If you'r…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 10, 2013 The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray comes with the choice of two different transmissions; a seven-speed manual and six-speed automatic. But a leaked paper from the Society of Automotive Engineers publication says that an eight-speed automatic will be coming to the Stingray. This paper, which has been pulled, was written by engineers at GM who worked on the project. The eight-speed, named 8L90, will feature shorter first gear ratio to improve acceleration, better fuel economy thanks to a greater spread of gear ratios, and the ability to handle up to 738 pound-feet of torque. A spokesman confirmed to Edmunds…

I have a 99 Blazer in pretty good shape, but lately it sounds like something is grinding in the back. It kind of sounds like brake pads, but it doens't make the noise when I press the brakes, it's almost all the time. It's getting worse. Is it possible the rear pads are just stuck or something? Also I thought the front were always the first to go. Thanks

600 Horses: Chevy Working on '08 Corvette SS? Date posted: 12-06-2005 DETROIT — Corvette rumors are as rampant these days as tabloid stories about Nick and Jessica. But aficionados' antennae are picking up emanations from deep inside General Motors that Chevrolet is readying an ultra Vette for 2008 that should outgun the new Z06. According to the Web site, DigitalCorvettes.com, the so-called Corvette SS will be the ultimate Vette, although details at this stage are pretty slim. The rumor mill has a "charged" LS9 engine under the hood as a Corvette exclusive, not to be shared with Cadillac, Pontiac or any other GM brand. Although smaller in displacemen…

Inside Line tests hundreds of vehicles a year, but not every one gets a full write-up. The numbers still tell a story, though, so we're introducing a new feature on Straightline called "IL Track Tested." It's a quick rundown of all the data we collected at the track, along with comments direct from the test drivers. Enjoy. Everyone has had their eyes on the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS, including us. It is, after all, the Camaro with a V8. This makes the SS the Camaro for enthusiast. And with a 6-speed manual, the SS will stomp through the quarter-mile in a stunning 13 seconds flat at 110.9 mph. Also new for 2010, is the Camaro V6, known as the LS, 1LT or 2LT, depending on ho…

I'm considering buying an '07 Impala SS, but have a question about the 5.3 V8's active fuel management (aka DOD). Has anyone ever had a problem with this system? If it were to somehow get stuck in 4 cylinder mode, would the car still be driveable, or would I be stranded? Thanks.

For the second month in a row Motor Trend claims the 2014 Chevy Impala with be the first large or full size car equipped with a normally aspirated four cylinder engine. This is wrong on a number of levels. First, they are forgetting that the Buick Lacrosse on the same platform even, offered the 2.4 for 2010-2011. And yes, that is non-turbo, non-hybrid. Few takers, and it was discontinued when the Regal came around. If you want to go way back in the time machine, Chevy offered the old Iron Duke 4 banger in the Lumina, a similar sized, 6 passenger and yet not full size car about 20 years ago. If that doesn't count for you, the current Honda Accord qualifies as a large car …

The Corvette Stingray's fuel economy numbers as measure by the official EPA test cycles are... Corvette Stingray -- 6.2L Pushrod OHV V8 -- 17 (City) / 29 (Highway) MPG* * 17/28 mpg w/o Cylinder Deactivation; 17/30 mpg in Eco Mode (Enables Cylinder Deactivation) Compared to the outgoing (C6) model, the 7th Generation Corvette is 1 mpg (city) / 2 mpg (Highway) better in fuel economy without relying on cylinder deactivation. With AFM enabled, this climbs to 1 mpg (city) / 4 mpg (Highway). This is in fact better than an 2009 Acura TL Type-S (17 / 26 mpg) makes the Corvette the most fuel efficient car in its performance category -- certainly the most fuel efficient vehicle…

Ten Vehicles That Don't Belong On BuisnessWeek's 50 Ugliest Cars List Jalopnik, not known for their GM love, pulls apart BusinessWeek's 50 Ugliest Cars list and goes to bat for the El Camino. Car:1) El Camino Place on the list: 1 Reason it's BS: Number one. They've got to be kidding. Two words on this one: Screw. Off. First of all, lumping the entire series into one big pile is just plain ignorant. Secondly, it's rude. The El Camino from the outset was a looker and stayed a dynamite design all the way until the fall in the 70s. But then again, everything was pretty fug in the 70s. If they even try to say the 1960 and 1972 were ugly, they might get a Jalopnik-shaped…

Ponce de Leon spent his career searching the Florida wilderness for the mythical fountain of youth, hoping to recapture his glory days. Car buyers often follow his example, buying the same kind of car they had in their youth, either as a restoration project or in the form of a new nostalgia model from the same manufacturer. The question now for the domestic car industry is whether such cars can also serve to recapture their glory days, when the car makers commanded huge market share with hot models that future owners sketched in study hall, or plastered on the inside of their lockers. Ford has remained in this sporty coupe segment since its introduction of the Mustang…

Just saw 2 Reliable transport truck loads of Vettes including the 2008. At the IRL/IMSA race at Mid Ohio GM brought in the Indy pace car and some other GM Vettes for th Vette car Corral. The new Vettes interior and wheels make a great improvment over the 07. While the interior is not everything we asked for it is 95% there. As for the race if you in the Ohio area go on Sunday as it will be a great race!

I think we all new this day was coming sooner rather than later but... Chevrolet Sonic Discontinuted I've been weirdly drawn to this car ever since the upgrade and name change from Aveo back in 2012. Never owned one and probably never will but they do have a pull for me for some reason. I prefer the exterior of the pre-refresh version but actually like the more traditional interior of the current one better. If only they would have stuck a 1.6T with 180-200 hp in the RS version! Basically a Fiesta ST competitor. Obviously that wasn't enough to save the Fiesta either but it would have been fun for us enthusiasts.

2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS In its own way, it’s subtler. by Conor Twomey (2006-03-13) If there's one thing the TrailBlazer wasn't crying out for it was more power. A new interior, maybe… but not more power! To my mind, the 300-hp, 5300 Vortec V-8 offers about as much performance as the TrailBlazer really needs for the daily school run, but that didn't stop Chevrolet from slotting the Corvette's LS2 V-8 into its engine bay and beefing up the looks and suspension to match. The resulting vehicle is called the TrailBlazer SS, although confusingly, it's sold as a package on LS or LT short-wheelbase models with 2WD or 4WD, rather than being a model it its own right. G…

n2a Motors have made quite a name for themselves over the past few years, designing and building unique coachbuilt cars like the 789 and more recently the Anteros. They were kind enough to send us some renderings and clay model photos of their next upcoming project dubbed the "Stinger", which takes styling cues from the '63-'67 Corvettes. Like the aforementioned 789 and Anteros, the Stinger will be based on the C6 Corvette and utilizes its chassis and powertrain. That's where the similarities end, though, as the car receives all new carbon composite body panels, custom interior, wheels and exhaust system. The standard Corvette with its 430-hp V8 is used for the base model…

LONDON: Monday, 18 December - Car-mony, a musical ensemble featuring five Chevrolet cars and the London Symphony Orchestra, has joined the race as a late contender to top this year’s Christmas single charts. Car-mony’s claim to chart history rests on its song, ‘Honk-a-Tonk Christmas’– a medley of all time Christmas favourites played on car horns, with instrumental support from a brass quintet. The song is a collaborative effort between Chevrolet, one of the biggest car brands in the world, and the London Symphony Orchestra – one of the top five orchestras in the world. The medley will include popular Christmas carols like ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’, ‘Away In A Mang…

Available in coupe or convertible versions, this latest generation will come in the traditional RS, SS and ZL1 packages. Chevrolet has announced that this 6th generation collectors edition will offer Magnetic Ride Control on the SS and ZL1 1LE editions. The 1LE is a track-focused package giving one a street-legal, track ready 650 hp Camaro. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 26, 2012 Chevrolet seems to pulling a page out of Buick’s playbook; offering hybrid versions of their mid and full-size sedans. Buick does it with the Regal and LaCrosse, and Chevrolet currently does it with the Malibu and soon to be Impala. Spy shots of a Impala pre-production prototype running around with no camouflage were caught. This wouldn’t be news, except for one small change. The grill on this particular Impala goes away from the Camaro-esque, three-bar grille, towards a solid insert with two small openings on the top and bottom. This is most likely is an aerodynamic aid to help improve fuel economy and mig…

December 1, 2011 - Drew Dowdell Of Volt owners surveyed by Consumer Reports, 93% of them replied that they would "definitely" buy another Chevy Volt. However, considering less than 6,300 Chevrolet Volts have been sold so far, that number could change. Another issue with the number is that the survey was complete prior to the NHTSA announced an investigation into potential Volt battery fires that can possibly occur in the weeks following a severe crash. Chevy announced a remarkable goodwill program to Volt owners offering them the option of a free loaner car, even a Corvette, while the NHTSA completed its investigation. Chevrolet had originally announced a goal of 10,0…
