  3. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 26, 2013 The marketplace for small and midsize pickups is beginning to get exciting once again with the introduction of the Chevrolet Colorado. Automotive News reports that it could be getting more exciting in the coming future. One thing that dealers have been clamoring for the new Colorado is an off-road version, something akin to the S-10 ZR2 package which offered higher ground clearance, stronger shocks, beefier axles and other enhancements. "The dealers already have been asking for an off-road model. We're considering it," said Jeff Luke, General Motors' chief engineer for trucks. GM North America Preside…

The Detroit News reports that class-action lawsuit has been filed against General Motors this week alleging the company used illegal software on the Chevrolet Cruze diesel to allow it to pass emission tests in the lab, while polluting more in the outside world. 5. What can you say about the Chevrolet Malibu? Not much that is very positive to it. The model feels rushed and despite an emergency refresh, sales have been declining during the year. General Motors is hoping to change their fortunes by "hustling" a new Malibu to come out in a year. GM's head of global product development, Mark Reuss said at a investor presentation that the next Malibu will have "groundbreaking design but also groundbreaking technology." "When is the last time you saw a [midsize] car this distinctive and this dramatic from General Motors?" Reuss said to investors when showing a picture of the next Malibu. 6. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 27, 2012 Remember the 2007 Volt concept? It was a muscular, bold, and imposing electric vehicle. Compare it to the production Volt and the two almost have nothing to share, aside from name, powertrain, and some design ideas. Recently at a event in San Francisco. John Cafaro, Director of Exterior Design for Chevrolet gave some indications and clues as to what to expect in the next-gen Volt. Cafaro mentioned how the guys at Chevrolet were impressed with what Opel did to the Ampera to make more aggressive. 7. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 19, 2013 According to a report from Reuters, General Motors has pushed back the launch timeframe of the next Chevrolet Cruze from 2014 to late 2015. Sources say the reasons for the push is for the company to squeeze out more sales out of the current model and to put more engineering changes into the model. We don't know much about the next-generation Cruze, besides that it will ride on GM's new D2XX platform. Our best guess as to why GM is pushing back the Cruze by about a year? They don't want another 2013 Malibu disaster. Source: Reuters William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. He can be reached a…

Three weeks after, the Volt caught on fire with the battery being the cause of the fire. On November 14th, NHTSA performed three follow-up battery-level tests to simulate the incident. The plant is currently home Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano. Sources say the company is planning to build around 25,000 to 30,000 units per year. As for Bolt itself, it will use GM's Gamma small car platform and will share the same basic set of components as the next-generation Sonic due out in late 2016. Sales will begin in early 2017. 22. AutoGuide recently obtained a California Air Resources Board (CARB) document listing the pairings for the 6.2L V8 and various transmissions for the 2019 Camaro and Corvette. In the 'Trans Type' column, the Camaro is listed with M6, M7, and SA8. The middle one is the interesting bit as it hints that the Camaro will get a seven-speed manual. AutoGuide believes the seven-speed in question is the one used in the Corvette. But there arises an issue with this conclusion. The seven-speed manual transmission for the Corvette mounts at the rear axle, whereas the manual transmission for the Camaro mounts at the engine. So GM could either figure out some way of finagling the Co…

  25. Chevrolet is hard at work on a new three-row crossover that will sit in between the Equinox and Traverse according to Automotive News. Speaking with people familiar with the matter, the new crossover will use the short-wheelbase version of the next Chevrolet Traverse's platform. To make room for this model, the Equinox will shrink down and move to a platform that underpins the Chevrolet Cruze. This move follows the footsteps of other automakers that are expanding to offer four different crossover sizes - ranging from subcompact to full-size. Now the new Chevrolet crossover will not be the only GM vehicle to use the short-wheelbase Traverse's platform. The upcoming…

  29. Blake Noble Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 4th, 2012 GM hasn’t exactly been bashful about the fact it plans to build a new rear-drive performance sedan for Chevrolet next year, and race it on your local NASCAR track. Announced in March of this year, the upcoming Chevy β€” which will wear the SS moniker in either short or long-hand form β€” should likely boast the same 6.2 liter V8 heart which furiously beats beneath the hood of the Camaro SS. The 6.2 should produce upwards of 415 horsepower for use in the SS sedan. One of the sources follows this up by saying the next-generation Corvette will also go to a mid-engine layout, Now this isn't the first time there have been reports of a mid-engine Corvette. Since the early sixties, reports of Chevrolet doing a mid-engine Corvette have been reported. This is only helped with General Motors showing a number of mid-engine Corvette concepts over the years. 31. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 30, 2013 With the seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette making its way to the production line, the rumors are beginning to fly on the model in the hopper, the Z06. Car and Driver got their hands on some information and it looks like General Motors wants to one up the Z06, literally. To start, the next-generation Z06 will be called the Z07. This makes sense as the Corvette is entering its seventh-generation. Or maybe not. Power will come from a small-block V8, but not a large displacement one. Instead, C&D reports that the V8 likely use a single or twin-turbochargers producing around 600+ horsepower. Their re…

  32. The Camaro Z/28 will be returning for an encore act and it might be using the next-generation of Chevrolet's small-block V8. Car and Driver reports that GM is working on the next-generation LT engines, codenamed LT6 and LT7. These new V8 engines will lose the pushrods and two-valve combustion chambers that have been a key part of the small-block V8. Instead, the new engines will feature dual overhead camshafts, four-valve combustion chambers, flat crankshaft, titanium connecting rods, and possibly dual injection (port and direct). For the Z/28, a 5.5L LT6 could produce 700 horsepower (that's without any sort of forced induction). Car and Driver speculates there…

  33. Earlier this week, we reported that Chevrolet wouldn't be showing anything at next month's Detroit Auto Show, deflating the dreams of many that the mid-engine Corvette would finally be revealed. GM Authority has learned from sources that a problem with the next-generation Corvette's electrical system has been found. The current system isn't able to carry the load necessary to support the necessary components in the vehicle. This will result in engineers making various changes to the system and suppliers to come up with new parts. This has reportedly pushed back the launch…

  36. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 19, 2012 When you think of Chevrolet, one of the first things that comes up is the SS. The nameplate that signifies added performance on a Chevrolet model has found more than a million homes since the first SS model, the 1961 Impala SS was introduced. So it seems a bit odd that General Motors decided to trademark the SS name this year. Someone uncovered a application filled by GM on April 13 trademarking SS. So what does this mean? Well, most everyone thinks that reason why GM trademarked SS is due to it being using as a designator, and there have been rumors that a civilian version of the Caprice PPV will hit …

  37. A new report from the Wall Street Journal says the Chevrolet Sonic could be no more as early as of the end of this year. According to sources, the decision comes down to consumers veering more towards trucks and utility vehicles, and declining sales. So far in 2018, sales of the Sonic have dropped 21.5 percent. Overall volume has dropped by over two-thirds when compared to the Sonic's best sales of 93,518 units in 2014. This could be more bad news for GM's Orion plant, home to the Chevrolet Sonic and Bolt. The plant already lost production of the Buick Verano in late 2016. The report also notes that Ford will be axing both the Taurus and Fiesta according to sour…

The power output for Z06 will not be made till they get the final power output for the ZR1. If the ZR1 produces 700 HP, then the Z06 will have 600 HP. Aveo) which was supposed to come out in late 2015 has been pushed back. "The management said it originally planned to launch the redesigned Aveo in late 2015, but the plan was pushed back. It also said it will produce the new Spark in the first half of 2015," said South Korean labor union spokesman Choi Jong-hak. This comes a couple weeks after a…

  49. Drew Dowdell - February 24, 2012 - CheersandGears.com Photo by Chris Doane Automotive, LLC - May not be used elsewhere without permission of photographer. The last time we saw a 2014 Spark EV prototype, the front end was covered in heavy camouflage and rear was held together with pop-rivets. Today, we've spied another Spark EV prototype with the production bodywork in place and almost NO camouflage. From our spy photos, we can see the Spark EV will get a different front end from its' gasoline brother. A new, smaller grille is in place, with filler panels that mimic the styling of the panels we find on the Chevy Volt. The Spark EV also has a new lower fascia and new sty…

  50. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com April 23, 2013 At first glance, you might be thinking these spy shots are for a refreshed Chevrolet Sonic sedan because of the distinctive front end. You be incorrect as Automobile Magazine says this is the new 2015 Cruze. The Cruze mule caught in these spy shots clearly show the Sonic influences tapered nose, descending hood, narrow headlights, and dual grille surround. The windshield looks be swept back and the roofline has a coupelike styling. In the back, the trunklid gains an integrated spoiler and a set of new taillights. The new Cruze will utilize an updated version of the Delta platform. Its not quite sure wh…

  51. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 9, 2013 Just a couple days after Chevrolet announced that 2015 Corvette Z06 will debut at the Detroit Auto Show, the fine folks at Automobile Magazine got their hands on some new spy shots of a Z06 mule undergoing some testing. Now the pictures reveal some information that we have known about since Chevrolet showed off a teaser shot such as the enlarged brakes, the unique black multispoke wheels, and air vents on the fenders to keep the brakes cool. One item that is very notable is a raised hood, possibly bulge or scoop. A source tells Automobile that the Z06 could be packing a supercharged version of the Sting…

  52. The lengths that automakers go to with camouflaging vehicles continues to amaze us. Case in point, the first spy photos of the next-generation Chevrolet Suburban has hit the internet. General Motors has covered up every surface, including the underside. That's because the new Suburban appears to be ditching the solid rear axle for an independent setup. We know this as a spy photographer found the right spot where there was minimal camouflage and captured it. Why is Chevrolet switching to an IRS setup? It might have to do with the new Ford Expedition which moved to independent rear suspension. A source told Autoblog that Chevrolet wouldn't have fit IRS because it was …

  53. With the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro sitting on dealer lots and the ZL1 being shown at New York, there is something still missing: The mad, track-oriented Camaro Z28. It seems GM is working on that model at the Nurburgring thanks to some new spy shots. This Camaro test mule is wearing some extreme aero parts such as deep canards on the front bumper and a massive rear wing. The pictures also reveal a set of larger brakes and wide rear tires. We're guessing the tires could be a set of Pirelli PZero Trofeo Rs - the same tires the last Camaro Z28 wore. Expect GM to do a major weight loss program for the new Z28 with racing seats, carbon fiber, and no air conditi…

  54. With the new Ford F-150 selling and Nissan's next-generation Titan just around the corner, the pickup truck market is once again heating up. To get ready for the next onslaught, General Motors is readying a refresh of the full-size trucks. A spy photographer happen to get some shots of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado. The shots reveal that Chevrolet is planning some changes for the Silverado's front end with a new grille and headlights with LEDs like on the GMC Sierra. Also changing up front is a new hood design. GM is also looking to changing a few body panels to aluminum - the hood and front fenders being the likely ones. Around back, expect new taillights, along with so…

  55. We have been hearing about Chevrolet adding a crossover between the Equinox and Traverse for about a year or so. This week, we have gotten our first look at this new model possibly wearing a well-known nameplate. A spy photographer caught two Chevrolet prototypes testing alongside a Nissan Murano. How do we know they're Chevrolet models? You can just make out the emblem through the camouflage. The design is very much Traverse with a similar shape and large grille. The new crossover will use the same platform that underpins the GMC Acadia. Powertrains are expected to be a 2.5L four-cylinder and 3.6L V6. According to sources, the new crossover will have the opti…

  56. Another vehicle has been revealed earlier than expected. This time, it is the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt which was caught during a photo shoot. The styling for the production model retains the basic shape of the concept. Up front is the clip from Volt and the rear end reminds us of the BMW i3. As we reported in a previous Bolt spying piece, the interior will look similar to the Volt's. But we think the Bolt will have a larger touchscreen. Now the Bolt will make its official debut next month at the Consumers Electronic Show in Las Vegas. Production will begin sometime late in 2016 at GM's Lake Orion plant. 57. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 25, 2012 The fine folks at PickupTrucks.com got their hands on the first spy shots of the U.S.-spec Chevrolet Colorado. On the outside of these two Colorado mules, the greenhouse and doors appear to be the same as the current Colorado on sale in Asia and other countries. Its expected that the U.S. version will get updated front and rear ends. As for powertrains, the Colorado in the U.S. will use a four-cylinder as a base engine, either the 2.0L turbo from Cadillac ATS, or the 2.5L from the Malibu. The next step up will be a 3.6L V6 engine. Those hoping for diesel option might want to stop for the time being. For …

  58. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 16, 2013 Its been awhile since we got any new information or spy shots on General Motor's next-generation midsize trucks. However that changed this week as new spy shots came in of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon doing some hot weather testing. We knew that our version of the Colorado and Canyon's exterior design would differ from the version sold in the rest of the world. The shots show the front ends of the two trucks taking cues from their bigger brothers with similar grilles and headlight setup. The spy shots also revealed that one of engines that GM is currently testing is a V6 VVT engine. That means we …

  59. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 19, 2012 It’s been a long time coming, but the day has come. The next generation Corvette has been caught on camera, undergoing some testing in Canada. The heavily camouflaged prototype reveals some details on what to expect on the C7 Corvette. Designwise, the C7 Corvette will retain the classic long-nose, short-deck configuration of its predecessors, but have a distinct wedge shape. Also, the C7 Corvette will keep the front-engine layout, squashing rumors of mid-engine car for now. There is still a lot of speculation on what will be powering the next generation Corvette. Rumor has it that a 5.5L twin-turbo V…

  60. While everyone has been going gaga over the possible fruition of the mid-engine Corvette, there is another juicy Corvette just around the corner. A spy photographer has gotten some up close photos of the next Corvette ZR1. Engineers have done their best to cover up the front, but there are some details that can be pulled out. First are the large vents on the bumper and a massive air intake. All of that air is needed if there is a 700 horsepower 6.2L supercharged V8 under the hood (according to rumor) along with massive brakes. We're guessing there is also some venting on the hood to provide additional cooling. The back features small uprights for a large rear wing (s…

  61. Well what do we have here? A new set of spy shots show off the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze without any camouflage - most likely due to the model being part of a photoshoot. The overall shape of the new Cruze is very striking and takes some ideas from the new Malibu and Volt with a rising beltline and sloping roof. Other details to take into consideration is a new design of the split grille, headlights, and flared out fenders. The new Cruze is expected to get the turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder that was introduced in the Malibu earlier this year. A diesel and plug-in hybrid are rumored to be available as well. The Cruze is expected to debut at the LA Auto Show in N…

  62. There appears to be three different Chevrolet Cruzes in play; the refreshed 2015 Cruze, the Chinese market Cruze, and the upcoming 2016 Cruze that was recently caught by a spy photographer. Caught undisguised, the 2016 Cruze shares a number of design items with the Chinese-market version that give it a somewhat tidy, if somewhat boring design. The front end wears a nose that is similar to the Sonic with the spilt grille and sculpted hood. The overall profile reminds us of the current Honda Civic. What is still unknown is what will power the next Cruze, but one or more of the engines from the Next-Generation Ecotec family going into production later this year is most lik…

  63. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 26, 2012 Chevrolet seems to pulling a page out of Buick’s playbook; offering hybrid versions of their mid and full-size sedans. Buick does it with the Regal and LaCrosse, and Chevrolet currently does it with the Malibu and soon to be Impala. Spy shots of a Impala pre-production prototype running around with no camouflage were caught. This wouldn’t be news, except for one small change. The grill on this particular Impala goes away from the Camaro-esque, three-bar grille, towards a solid insert with two small openings on the top and bottom. This is most likely is an aerodynamic aid to help improve fuel economy and mig…

  64. Chevrolet appears to have some big changes in store for the next Malibu as shown by some spy shots. A huge change is with the greenhouse as the mule gets a sleek roofline that slopes downward dramatically to a shorten rear end. The speculation is that Chevrolet is taking some ideas from Chrysler 200 and Ford Fusion to inject some European design into the next model. We can't tell much about the front aside from the fascia appearing to stay the same. There are mechanical changes in store as well. Chevrolet could drop the 2.5L four-cylinder for a smaller four-cylinder with a turbocharger to increase fuel economy. Source: Automobile Magazine William Maley is a staff writ…

  65. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 30, 2012 We've shown you spy shots of the new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. What we haven't been able to show is the two of them together... Until now. Automobile has gotten their hands on some new spy shots of the new Silverado and Sierra testing together. Much like the current models, the pictures reveal the trucks will have slight visual differences that include wheels, fender openings grilles, and taillights. The trucks feature a set of projector headlights and larger lower air dam. Around the side, the doors appear to not have any character lines. There is evidence of bright work around windows and so…

  66. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 30, 2012 Almost two weeks after GM announced the return of the Chevrolet SS, Automobile Magazine got their hands on the first spy shots of SS. While we can't tell much about the front and back (GM has done a good job of layering camouflage on those bits), we can see the SS will be based on the VF Commodore. Also unknown is the powerplant. Chevrolet said the SS would come with V8 power, and the photographer noted a V8 growl coming from beefy dual exhaust pipes. There's a good chance the SS could use all-new fifth-generation small-block V8 engine. Source: Automobile Magazine View full article

  67. We've seen the shots of the new Chevrolet Cruze wearing layers of camouflage, but some new shots out of China could give us our best look of what the automaker has in mind for the next-generation model. Chinese automotive site, auto.sohu.com got their hands on what is reported to be a un-camouflaged next-generation Cruze sitting in a parking lot. Judging from the pictures, Chevrolet is making some dramatic changes. The front end looks to be borrowing some ideas from the SS with two distinctly separate grilles and a large Bowtie emblem. A set of narrowed headlights sit on either side. One other design cue to take note of is the arch in the rear wheel wells, something very…

  68. Chevrolet is hard at work on getting the Bolt EV from the concept we first saw at the Detroit Auto Show to go into production for 2017. Yesterday saw the first spy shots of the Bolt's interior come into focus. The most noticeable feature is a large LCD screen which appears to be running a new version of Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system. Controls for audio and HVAC are right underneath the screen. There's also another LCD in the gauge cluster which appears to have a similar layout as the Volt. Source: Autoblog View full article

  69. It is no secret that Chevrolet is working on a mid-engine Corvette, especially when a set of spy shots clearly showing the vehicle came out last fall. A new batch of spy shots have hit the web and we now have a better idea of what it could look like. The pictures reveal that the front end will look somewhat similar to the current Corvette with a pointed nose. There appears to be a curved windshield and a tapered roofline. Other pictures reveal the outline of the hood where the V8 engine resides. Speaking of the V8 engine, there are reports saying the mid-engine Corvette will have three engines on offer - codenamed LT2, LT6, and LT7. We know LT6 is possibly a nat…

  70. The problem with the previous spy shots of the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette was you couldn't really tell what it was. The shots showed a blurry mule on GM's test track. For all we knew, it could have been bigfoot terrorizing GM employees. But finally, we have gotten the first clear and detailed shots of the mid-engine Corvette. It is clear this mule is mid-engined because of the proportions - short front and long rear end. There also appears to be some bits from the C7 such as the taillights. Other details are hidden by the heavy camouflage. Details on the mid-engine Corvette are very sketchy. As we have reported previously, the mid-engine Corvette could be sh…

  71. It has been a few months since we last reported on the mid-engine Corvette. But thanks to a spy photographer, we have some new pictures of the mid-engine model which gives us some new details. The pictures show the mid-engine Corvette playing around with a couple of ZR1 prototypes in the snow. When put next to the ZR1 prototype, the mid-engine Corvette's proportions are very different - short front end and long rear end. It appears the mid-engine prototype is also sporting massive air intakes in the rear fenders. We still don't know anything about the mid-engine Corvette's powertrain. We've been hearing the possibility of a 6.2L DOHC V8 to a turbocharged V6. …

  72. We've seen spy shots of the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette in the snow and at GM's proving grounds. Now, we have a set of spy shots of a mid-engine Corvette at a McDonalds' drive-thru. The pictures were captured by a Motor Trend reader in Cadillac, Michigan (northwest of Detroit). The test mule was undergoing some public road testing and it appears there was a current Corvette and what appears to be a Porsche 911. Despite the heavy amount of camouflage, you can make out some Corvette cues such as similar front-end styling as the current model and hood cutout. The double-bubble roof is present as is a set of new wheels that are presumed to be production ones. We'l…

  73. Ford is readying the 2015 Mustang, while Dodge is getting the refreshed 2015 Challenger ready to be sent out to dealers. What does Chevrolet have in store for the Camaro? Well the first set of spy shots have come out and it appears there is a lot in store. Underneath all of the heavy camouflage, we can tell that Chevrolet is going with a more aggressive look and a lowered roofline. The wheels appear to have been moved closer to either end, and the rear end has been trimmed a little. Other details to take note include the quad exhaust pipes, large hood vents, and a big spoiler. This leads to some speculation that we're looking at high-performance model such as the SS or Z…

  74. The current Chevrolet Equinox is nearing the end of its lifecycle and we have been wondering when we'll be seeing any information about it. Thanks to a spy photographer, we have some photos to show what Chevrolet has in store. The most apparent thing we can tell the photos is the new model is smaller than the outgoing model. This confirms a report back from January that Chevrolet will be moving the Equinox downmarket to compete better with compact crossovers. We can't you much about the exterior thanks to excellent camouflage job done by GM. Car and Driver says the Equinox will use GM's Delta architecture and possibly feature the same suspension setup as the Buick…

  75. We have to admire the chutzpah put on display by a spy photographer when getting these shots of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. A video shows one of them running up to one of the mules when sitting in traffic with a magnet in hand. The goal was to see if the bed was made out of aluminum - something we have been hearing about the next-generation Silverado. What the video reveals is that the Silverado mule is using a steel bed with a 'clang' of the magnet attaching to the bed. Does this mean that the production Silverado and GMC Sierra will stick with steel beds in the next-generation? That is tough to say since we don't know how along GM is in the development cycle…

  76. A couple of years ago, Chevrolet rolled out the Colorado ZR2 concept. This truck showed what a possible off-road focused model could look like. At the time, Chevrolet said this was only a concept. But some new spy shots show GM is considering putting this model into production. While the front end is camouflaged very well, we can make out certain details such as a new front bumper, tow hooks, and a skid plate. The bumper is an important change as the current one limits how far you can off-road. The suspension has been lifted (an inch or two we're guessing) and there is a set of meaty off-road tires. Engines choices are likely to be the 3.6L V6 and 2.8L Duramax fou…

  77. A fresh stack of spy shots of the upcoming 2019 Chevrolet Silverado has arrived and we have gotten our first look at the interior. The picture reveals that the blocky dash design of the current truck is sticking around. The center stack design is similar to what you'll find in the GMC Acadia. It appears this mule is running a new version of Chevrolet's MyLink system with a new status bar along the bottom. We also got some new clues on the 2019 Silverado's exterior. It appears Chevrolet is keeping the blocky profile shape. The front end gets new headlights with LEDs and a revised bumper. We still don't know much about powertrains for the 2019 Silverado excep…

  78. Whenever a new set of spy shots come out, the photographer tends to have an idea of the vehicle in question. But that isn't the case with this set of spy shots. The vehicle in question is a Chevrolet Crossover that was driving nearby General Motors' headquarters. But no one can seem to agree if this is the next-generation Traverse or the rumored crossover that would sit between the Equinox and Traverse. Motor1 believes it's latter since it is about the same size and shape as the downsized GMC Acadia. This new model could be wearing the Blazer nameplate. No matter which model this turns out to be, we can be sure the front end will feature a similar design to the …

  79. Chevrolet has announced that the next-generation Volt will debut at the North American International Auto Show next year. This announcement came from Tim Mahoney, Chevy's global chief marketing officer at the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefings. β€œVolt is the perfect example of the ingenuity that drives everything we do at Chevrolet. Volt fully delivers on the promises of Find New Roads and will continue to provide consumers with the transportation solutions they need and deserve in the future,” said Mahoney. We don't know much about the next-generation Volt, aside from the new model getting a more sleeker look. Source: General Motors William Maley is a…

  80. If it weren't for focus groups, the design of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox could have looked so much different. Speaking to Automotive News, chief engineer of the 2018 Equinox Mark Cieslak revealed that focus groups weren't not impressed with the first designs of the redesigned model. They described the design as being bulky, 'not compelling', and looking a bit odd. If this was old GM, they would have gone forward with the design. "Back in the day, we would have probably just kept going," said Cieslak. "What we had on paper we felt was not going to win." But this being the new GM where bean counters lost a fair amount of influence, the decision was made …

  81. The Chevrolet Bolt concept will be heading into production in late 2016, with sales beginning in 2017. But there is the question of whether or not the 'Bolt' name will go on the production model or not. The name is confusing as it sounds similar to the Chevrolet Volt. "Some people think it's confusing. "People are having some fun with it. It is generating awareness, which is good. It's so conversational," said Alan Batey, president of GM North America to the Detroit Free Press. Batey did say that there is a debate going on General Motors of whether to keep the Bolt name or go with something else. "We're still in the decision phase. It could go either way," said Batey…

  82. G. Noble Editor/Reporter CheersandGears.com March 27, 2012 If these patent drawings unearthed by French publication L’Automobile Magazine are the real deal, then it seems Buick β€” and by extension Opel β€” won’t be the only GM brand selling a new small crossover in the near future. The drawings, which unsurprisingly are claimed to come from the European patent office, clearly show what seems to be a Buick Encore-based vehicle with some changes to the sheetmetal and wearing the familiar Chevrolet dual port grille. That also means the small Chevy CUV depicted would be the same size as the Encore, would offer all-wheel drive, and would probably share an engine or two. L’Au…

  83. It's the end of the road for the Chevrolet Camaro. The final Camaro was a ZL1 1LE with a manual transmission. As of now, there are no images of the final Camaro. Chevy didn't tell a spokesperson from Motor1 whether they would keep it or sell it to a customer. A Chevrolet spokesman said in a statement "Camaro is a passion product. It has developed a fan base worldwide and brought people into Chevrolet dealerships for generations. The sixth generation specifically represented athleticism and composure – exuding confidence on the road and dominance on the track." Chevy had previously announced in March 2023 that the Camaro would retire after the 2024 model year. …

  84. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 4, 2013 February 28, 2013 was a sad day at GM's Bowling Green factory in Kentucky as the final C6 Corvette rolled off the assembly line. The last Corvette was a white 427 convertible collectors' edition model which will be heading to GM's Heritage Collection in Detroit. During its nine years in production, the Bowling Green plant built a total of 215,100 C6 Corvettes. Now the plant is undergoing a retooling to begin production of the new C7 Corvette Stingray later this year. If you're one of those people who still wants to get their hands on a C6 Corvette, don't fret. Automotive News said that Chevrolet dealer…

  85. Chevrolet has revealed the two extremes of the Silverado family, the 1500 and the Class 4, 5, and 6 trucks. But the HD variant has yet to make its debut. Today, Chevrolet dropped a teaser for the upcoming 2020 Silverado HD. This would be ok if it was a couple of months out from being shown, but Chevrolet isn't planning to show until late 2019. That's right, we have an 18-month wait. The photo shows the top half of the Silverado HD's front end and it looks tough. We can see the headlights being similar in shape to the 1500 and the Chevrolet script running the whole length of the grille. We're expecting a number of grille inserts depending on the trim. A chrome-r…

  86. The performance off-road mid-size pickup truck war has turned into a hot war in 2023. Ford has recently released their 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor, and Toyota introduced an all-new 2024 Tacoma with an incredibly capable Tacoma TRD Off Road. Back in 2018, Chevrolet teamed up with American Expedition Vehicles to the 2019 Chevy Colorado Bison ZR2 to the Colorado lineup. About a year ago, the all-new 2023 Colorado was released, and while there was a ZR2, the Bison was not part of the announcement. Today, Chevy remedied that by announcing a new Chevrolet Colorado Bison ZR2 for 2024. The Bison starts with the ZR2's longer wheelbase and high-output 2.7L turbo producing…

  87. With the clock winding down on production of the Holden Commodore, Chevrolet dealers are snapping the remaining lot of SS models being exported to the U.S. Wheels has learned from Chevrolet that the extra 1,000 SS models Holden was planning to build for the U.S. market have been snapped up. β€œAll US dealer orders are in for the allocated production of the 2017 Chevrolet SS. This includes any additional units that were confirmed for production last year,” said Chevrolet. Originally, Holden was planning on building 2,000 SS for the U.S. However, the large demand by dealers for the last SS models caused Holden to add an additional 1,000 models for export. Sourc…

  88. We're now into the third week of the strike at GM's CAMI Assembly in Ontario and neither side appears to be budging. There are rising concerns that GM could be running out of the stockpile of the Chevrolet Equinox. GM's second-best selling nameplate. According to data from Automotive News, GM had 43,453 Equinoxes (about a 41-day supply) at the beginning of this month. Chevrolet dealers sold 27,512 Equinox models last month. If this trend continues, there could be some serious problems towards the end of the year. "That's going to be hard on Equinox to compete on such a limited quantity in such a hot segment. We would expect sales to pick up in the last quarter o…

  89. According to GM Authority, the Chevrolet Traverse is dropping the 2.0T from the lineup and is already no longer available for ordering. The move means that the only available powertrain for the Traverse is the 310 horsepower V6 paired with a 9-speed automatic. The 2.0T was introduced in the 2018 model year only on the RS model which had a slightly sportier flair than the regular Traverse. We wonder though if this signals a move by Chevy to use the new TriPower 2.0T that is found in the Cadillac XT4 and was recently announced to be going into the 2020 GMC Acadia. So don't be surprised if there is an announcement from Chevy soon. View full article

  93. Chevrolet has announced pricing for the upcoming Colorado ZR2 Bison. Built with the help of American Expedition Vehicles, the Bison takes the capable ZR2 and adds some more features to allow it to go further in the bush. But it will set you back a fair amount of cash. When it arrives at dealers in January, the Extended Cab will set you back $48,045. The crew cab begins at $49,645. Both prices include a $995 destination charge. That represents a premium of $5,000 to $6,000 when compared to the standard ZR2. That price premium may seem a bit much, but it is going towards some proper upgrades. The includes new skid plates protecting key items such as the oil pan an…

  94. With the Holden Commodore saying goodbye in 2017, it was assumed that the Chevrolet SS would follow suit. But some recent comments last week are making us rethink that. And we haven’t announced an end date to it, so we’re just … we know that there are some decisions made on the Zeta [platform], that are imminent, and right now we’re just focused on the new ’17 model, which is great.
