Hey-o guys, So this past weekend the big dog NHRA guys were in town Fri-Sun. I've been wanting to go for quite awhile now so a few friends and I took the day off work Friday and went to practice/qualifying. First off, the nitro cars are absolutely insane. If you ever have a chance to go watch these cars, DO IT! Quickest passes in the 3.60's@325ish. The feels and sounds of those cars passing is like nothing else I've ever seen or felt. I have no clue how the crews and drivers can be around those daily and now have serious hearing loss/issues. I wore ear protection knowing they were loud..still didn't expect that loud! Here are some pictures from the day. Not much…

http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog/?p=484 The Republican/Democrat duopoly has, for far too long, ignored the most important issues facing our nation. However, alternate candidates Chuck Baldwin, Cynthia McKinney, and Ralph Nader agree with Ron Paul on four key principles central to the health of our nation. These principles should be key in the considerations of every voter this November and in every election. We Agree Foreign Policy: The Iraq War must end as quickly as possible with removal of all our soldiers from the region. We must initiate the return of our soldiers from around the world, including Korea, Japan, Europe and the entire Middle East. We must c…

I went to Ohio for the holiday weekend to visit family...hot and humid (felt more like July weather than May!), lots of sun, some heavy thunderstorms. Some highlights-- I really liked my '07 Mercury Grand Marquis GS rental from Hertz... it was a lot of fun driving a V8, RWD, BOF old-school American land yacht...both on I-70/I-77 and on eastern Ohio's fantastic smooth, low-traffic winding hilly backroads (state routes and county roads around the Amish country of my youth)... it handled better than I thought it would on the rolling, twisty roads... (At the rental car counter, the guy tried to persuade me to take a Montego or Five Hundred, but I had specifically rese…

Supposedly, 07/07/07 is a lucky day. Not 100% "lucky" for me ... but, finally ... for the first time in 2007 ... my older 4 Monte Carlos saw road pavement! My sister, Joy, came over early Saturday morning so we could clean up her 2007 Dodge Dakota quad cab w/manual transmission. Once we got done, we ate lunch ... and then went to the garage where the older 4 are stored. We drove each car about 15 miles ... just enough to get gas in 'em. MPGs were anywhere from just over 12 to upwards of 17; I don't really count these, considering how long they've been sitting and the "false start" a few weeks ago. I drove the '72 and '79; sis drove the '81 and '76. I would've liked…

Alright, NO excuse for lack of participation in this one. All of you classic and muscle car lovers, this one's for you. There is one caveat, however. I want to see true collector/investment grade cars here. Not run-of-the-mill stuff that you just happen to like. I'm talking cars with massive values- definitely way into 6-figure territory, preferably 7-figure- very rare numbers, etc. So, an example of something that doesn't count- a '69 Camaro SS. Something that does- '68 Charger Daytona. Rules- 1) These are collector cars- they do not have to be used regularly, tracked, etc. 2) Maximum of 5 choices. 3) Production cars only. 4) Any market is…

I'll road trip to the greater St Louis MO area 4 times in 2009; even so, the quick trip I took down there the weekend of March 14 was not long enough. It never is when you are meeting people and "catching up".... Friday the 13th, I went to work for a few hours, came home, picked up the rental (a Dodge Charger, of course), finished packing and left town about 2:10p. I made a beeline for St Louis (via RT 64 W, I-39 S, I-55 S and I-64 W), hoping to arrive for the ValveReplacement Reunion Friday night dinner. I stopped once, at a Shell station in Raymond IL just off I-55. I noticed a "Route 66" historical marker ... so, I suspect I was on Route 66 a bit. Unfortunately,…

To-may-to. To-mah-to. Po-tay-to. Po-tah-to. Auto Show. Car show. What’s the difference? You can pronounce the food in whatever way your linguistical leanings allow, but there’s a big difference between a car show and an auto show such as the 2007 Delaware Auto Show, scheduled for Oct. 5-7 at the Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington. Put simply, car shows are for classic, antique and tuner cars – vehicles you want to admire close up. At those look-but-don’t-touch events, owners don’t really like for you to touch the cars or get in them. Auto shows offer, however, the coolest, latest, sleekest, hottest rides available now and in the immediate future for the gearhead…

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone could help me make an educated guess on how much per month it would cost top lease an 08 CTS that had an MSRP of about 45k. I'd be open to either 24 or 39 month leases though I would prefer the 24 month. my goal is to have the lease payment come out to around 500 a month with an absolute max of 600 a month. I would have 5000 to put down and I need 15k miles a year. Is the 500-600 a month possible. All my prior car shopping have been purchases so leasing is nwe and a little confusing to me.

My dad emailed me. He sold his 92 Seville! ARGH! 3700 bucks to an 18 year old. the kiddies these days buy cadillacs and other old GM cars and have clubs like GM car clubs etc. For me, this blows because now I can't ask to borrow the car this year if I need to unload one of mine to remain solvent in this 'new economy'. I think he got a good deal, and its just a car. But man, I thought he would keep that car forever. No biggie. Just sad! disclosure -i would not be sad if it was a 92 camry he was selling-

My cousin was driving us back from a movie in their Taurus when an old lady pulled up beside us in a 98 Camry on the highway. My cousin for fun decided to hit the gas to try to pass her a bit and see if she would race. Then she nails her gas and she flew by us like we were standing still and we were doing 80. In a couple minutes we couldn't even see her. Funny thing was both cars had handicapped license plates.

(Mods feel free to move this to where it may be but i thought in the lounge since its just a personal opinion.) so for the past week or so i have been seeing this really, really annoying toyota commercial that states "80% of toyotas sold are still on the road today"... how in the world do they get that number? one would think that with the rust problems of late, wrecks, salvage, fires, and apathetically parking it and never moving it again would amount to more than just 20% of total production. i just felt like i needed to vent cause it comes on twice an hour on some of the programs i watch and annoys the t total piss out of me. even worse they follow it up with that …

Well,...there have been "rumors" of a new Stingray for awhile...but, yesterday I got a confirmation from a friend of mine at GM that indeed the STINGRAY is set to return. Based upon the solstice/sky platform, the new stingray will be introduced quite soon !!..or so it seems. GM has done several "production mock ups" of this model, which will expand the "CORVETTE" brand into a TWO Model line, & there may be More Corvette models in the future ! Another "tidbit" I was told is that GM is seriously considering bringing back the "GRAND PRIX"...possibly even the GTO !!! They may "return" as either Chevy or Buick models !!!!

Well, I can't say that having a quiet car is a bad thing (in fact I hate the level of engine noise in my Cavalier), but is sometimes too quiet a bad thing? Especially a brand like Pontiac, shouldn't there be more engine noise to make it feel sportier? Surprisingly, a Sunfire is a bit more quiet than a Cavalier because it has slightly better materials. But shouldn't it be the other way around? Is it like we should make a Pontiac as quiet as a Buick? I remember there were reports that people complained the Porsche 996 was too quiet and in the new one they had to make it noisier.

Found this in the Hemmings eWeekly newsletter.. One for the Rust Belt See, what goes around really does come around. Word comes to us of Mack Trucks Inc.’s plans to move its highway truck production from its New River Valley plant in Virginia to that traditional stronghold of the Bulldog (and classic vehicles in general), Macungie, Pennsylvania. The big rigs will be built alongside construction and trash trucks that are already assembled in Macungie, in a factory that’s nearly across the street from the onetime Mack museum in the same town. It’s a reversal of the timeworn practice of shifting such manufacturing jobs to the South. The New River Valley plant, inciden…

A man killed Wednesday while apparently involved in a street race in Hercules was a San Francisco sheriff's deputy, a sheriff's department spokeswoman said. Christopher Walker, 23, of Antioch, had worked at the department for two years, most recently providing security at San Francisco General Hospital, according to spokeswoman Eileen Hirst. Before that, he worked at the San Francisco County Jail. According to Hercules police, Walker was racing a red Chevrolet Camaro against another car when he crashed into a light pole on Palm Avenue, between Sycamore Avenue and the state Highway 4 on-ramp, at about 2:30 p.m. The other car, which left the scene of the crash, was d…

In our backyard sits an 86 oldsmobile delta 88, for some reason a few years ago the motor went kaput. The car is pretty good condition, even the interior. Im gonna end up getting another 3.0 V6 for it, heard horrible things about the 3.8's reliability. Probably gonna get a motor from a junkyard and clean it up, even run some engine cleaner through it, but does anyone on here have some ideas on things i can do to enhance the performance?

Some good reads in there. There's a write-up on the G8, and they put some miles on a new Commadore, there's a comparison test of the Silverado and Tundra (GM won!). Also is a interesting write-up from angus Mackenzie (editor) in regards to Thomas Friedmans comment in the NY times about GM building "gas guzzlers". He make several good points against Toyota and how 12 of thier 17 cars in the booth at NAIAS were new Tundra's. I like the comment were he says: "It's become fashionable to eulogize Toyota for building inviromentally friendly vehicles. But the only thing green about the Tundra is the color of the $1.3 billion or so Toyota has splurged on the factory to build …

http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/future_cars...fr=FP-tab-img-t Interesting to see they already have the Challenger and Camaro marked for production. The TT looks pretty good in that picture.. is that the real thing or just a rendering?

** 2010 is just around the corner ... already?! ** Holy cow ... it's hard to believe that 10 YEARS ago people were wondering if the change from 1999 to 2000 would disrupt life as we know it...! Yet, here we are ... on the brink of "Twenty Ten". Plenty has changed, but some things remain the same. Life is rapidly moving forward ... despite the turmoils and triumphs we've experienced and witnessed ... some of which seem ages ago, others like just yesterday. Here's to 2009 and years prior ... while looking to 2010 and beyond. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Currently have a car up for auction. Was contacted by eBay member who wants to bid, but is in Sweden. Auction ad states $500 deposit due within 48 hrs, balance in cash when picking up car. This potential buyer has been on eBay since 2015, has a 100% positive feedback but it only numbers (4). He gave his name, same named person in Sweden has a FB page, there are a few pics of cars there; apparently he recently sold a '58 Lincoln. He asked/offered other ways of payment, asked about bank transfer or paying in full thru PayPal. - - - - - There's no way for an in-full payment thru PP to go awry, is there? If the money appears, I transfer it to my bank account,…

* With spring weather now (including severe thunderstorm potential the next 24 hours or so here in Chicagoland), hopefully we’re saying good bye to winter 2014-2015 for good… http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/04/08/automotive-daily-80/ …& with that, to what spring-summer-fall events are you looking forward to saying hello in 2015? http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/04/07/daily-dose-trivia-tue-12/ None are on my list, at the moment, at least. I have a few I’d like to attend, but with no income, probably not going to happen. BTW, do you remember any of these 4 ads that pose a challenge? http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/04/07/automotive-daily-79/ …

Well, I don't know if there is a big golfing community in here or not, but I am looking for a new set before summer. My hand me down set of Taylor Mades that my dad gave to me when I started back in the late 90s are showing their age. I love those clubs, but I lost my 8 iron last summer and the face on my 5 iron is almost worn away. I don't golf a ton, so I am kind of shopping on a budget. I want to stick with a well known name brand, and would like to stick to graphite shafts. Other than that I am open for anything. I wouldn't be opposed to a used set if you thought I could find one in good shape somewhere. Especially if it is going to give me more bang for my bu…

Now in the case of some of these cars here that might be putting it a bit too strongly, after all, it was often the person behind the wheel that was to blame for the reputation attached to the car. Nevertheless we have put together a list of 50 cars that have, perhaps, captured the public’s imagination for all the wrong reasons. Whether by accident, design, or even bad design, the cars we have selected will remain in the public eye for years to come. After you click the Link, click on, "Launch our 50 most infamous cars story" Link: http://cars.uk.msn.com/News/Top_ten_articl...umentid=5419390

WASHINGTON - Linguists alarmed at the increasing extinction of many indigenous languages identified five global "hot spots" on Tuesday where the problem is worst, led by northern Australia and a region of South America. The linguists are part of the Enduring Voices project that seeks to document and revitalize languages slipping toward oblivion, often spoken by indigenous peoples like Australia's aborigines whose cultures were trampled by settlers. David Harrison of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, the project's co-director, said there are 6,992 recognized distinct languages worldwide. He said on average one language vanishes every two weeks, often as its last elderl…

My daughter sent me this, she said it reminded her when I would let her drive when she was about 7 or 8. She could also tell you every brand of GM vehicles as we passed them when she was about 2. She also says this guy has the same type of Texass accent I have, but I do my best to suppress it. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I posted some links to the engine build in the "pre-system-crash" C&G forums, but I thought you might like to see the finished car. link to the lateral-g website with photos and details The engineering is stunning, and somewhere underneath all those turbochargers, there really is an LS1.

The latest version of Autoline Detroit makes me think that the press is starting to get the idea that the foreign cars aren't so hot. Comments on the new accord include, loud & buzy. toyota isn't given much for positive comments on their current state. It was even noted that a few years ago the head of toyota bowed and appologized to Heads of State in Japan only to have the years following have toyota continue to produce poor quality products. http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/

I figured some of you may get a kick out of this... http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=522557 Disclaimer: Getting in accidents is not cool/funny. What happened sucks and luckily everyone was alright. After I found out everyone was alright I just had to give a smile at the outcome of the two vehicles, though I'm sure the same would've happened had the sequoia been something else, like a tahoe or whatever and the driver remained the same. If you read through the thread you'll find out what happens...
