Stock photo from SEMA Vegas.....not the Lapeer testing. Two Dodge Challengers Dragging It Up At Lapeer, MI Dragway? We just got the following unconfirmed tip: "There's a rumor going 'round work here that two new Challengers were up at Lapeer (MI) dragway this week. I can't confirm that part (but am trying) but I do know one of the lead engineers (chief?) lives in Metamora, the next town south. BTW, and unconfirmed also, but they reportedly were turning 12s." Anyone know anything else 'bout it -- like for instance, is it true? (Hat tip to Sean!) Link: http://jalopnik.com/cars/new-cars/two-dodg...gway-313101.php ------------------------- Sounds about ri…

Today, Fiat SpA's board of directors announced Fiat SpA and Chrysler Group LLC will become Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). This comes as part of restructuring plan of the two automakers that was agreed by the board. “A new chapter of our story begins with the creation of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. A journey that started over a decade ago, as Fiat sought to ensure its place in an increasingly complex marketplace, has brought together two organizations each with a great history in the automotive industry and different but complementary geographic strengths,” said John Elkann, chairman of Fiat. The restructuring plan also notes that FCA will be listed on the Milan and New…

If dropping a giant SUV from a helicopter were easy, everyone would be doing it. Chrysler's Jeep brand cooked up a plan to dangle a Commander SUV from 1,200 feet above its Chelsea proving grounds and then release it -- counting on four parachutes to ease its landing. At the same time, seven skydivers would drop from another helicopter, then pile into the SUV and drive over to a phalanx of media. The photo op was designed to announce Jeep's involvement with Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit effort to encourage Americans to send cards and packages to overseas soldiers. But one trial run went awry when a chute didn't open and the Commander suffered a hard …

Preview: 2007 Jeep Patriot The Compass gets a hardcore sibling. by Henny Hemmes (2006-04-10) The Chrysler Group gave us the first glance at the Jeep Patriot at the Frankfurt auto show last fall. Although the Patriot was shown alongside the Jeep Compass as a concept car, the Patriot soon became a confirmed entrant in the small-SUV segment. This Wednesday in New York , the Patriot will be shown to the public as a production-ready vehicle. The new Patriot will do to Jeep's bottom what the Commander did to its top - extend the model range for the hallowed brand. A compact SUV with a traditional Jeep exterior design, the Patriot is based on the underpinnings of the Dodge…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is facing an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission over their sales reporting practices. Bloomberg learned about the investigation from two sources this morning and since then, FCA has confirmed it. This investigation stems from lawsuits filed earlier this year by dealers in Florida and Illinois saying the automaker inflated sales numbers by having them file false 'New Vehicle Delivery Reports'. At the time, FCA denied the charges made and is seeking dismissal of the suit. But as Automotive News notes, FCA added a disclaimer to their sales reports in April about how sales are reported. “FC…

Task Force Agrees Automaker Needs Advertising -- Just Not $134 Million Worth DETROIT (AdAge.com) -- Chrysler wanted to spend $134 million in advertising over the nine weeks it's expected to be in bankruptcy -- the U.S. Treasury's auto-industry task force gave it half that. So if GM, which is wrestling with the possibility of a Chapter 11 filing itself, is wondering how much influence the task force will have over marketing, the answer is: plenty. However, transcripts from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Southern District of New York, where the Chrysler case is being heard, proved for the first time that the task force at least understands that advertising is a necessar…

Will Chrysler Restructure as Well? DaimlerChrysler Chairman Dieter Zetsche said Tuesday that the automaker will cut output by 90,000 vehicles in the third quarter -- up from previous estimates of about 75,000 -- and another 45,000 in the fourth quarter to bring dealer inventories more in line with consumer demand and make room in showrooms for new models that will roll out later this year. Giant German carmaker Volkswagen and Detroit auto group Chrysler are joining forces to build a new minivan in the U.S., industry sources said Monday, as VW battles to arrest slumping sales in the intensely competitive American market. A contract between VW and Chrysler, which is the U.S. offshoot of transatlantic carmaker DaimlerChrysler AG is due to be formally signed at next week's Detroit motor show. A VW spokesman declined to comment. Under the deal, Chrysler is to build for VW a mini-van using Chrysler's Voyager as the basis. The new car is to hit the U.S. market in 2008. LaSorda Recognizes Crap Chrysler Group Ads During a meeting with Detroit-area dealers, Tom LaSorda, Chrysler group's CEO, expressed his displeasure with the current advertising route employed by the Detroit firm BBDO. He specifically singled out the ad where a stranded motorist enlists the help of a Nitro driver to jump his car. You've seen the rest, so we're not going to bore you with a description. Autoblog --- The Nitro ads are bad. Anybody see the "That's bold/stupid/whatever, That's Nitro" ads? To hell with truth in advertising; how about making sense in advertising?

Chrysler Group offers dealers cash to take cars TERRY KOSDROSKY / Dow Jones Newswires ORLANDO, Fla. - The Chrysler Group is offering dealers $1,000 for every car they sell over the next two months if the dealer doesn't cut its March vehicle order and accepts cars from the automaker's bank of overbuilds, dealers said. Chrysler, the U.S. arm of DaimlerChrysler AG, wouldn't confirm the plan, saying it doesn't disclose details of its dealership workings. But three separate dealers who spoke with Dow Jones Newswires at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention said the plan is designed to help soften the blow for dealers being pressured to accept more vehicles…

Only one transmission away from a success If you ever had any doubt that it's better to be the younger sibling, check out the 2007 Jeep Patriot. The boxy 2007 Patriot compact SUV is the third vehicle the Chrysler Group has spun off its new small-car platform. First there was the Dodge Caliber — the odd-looking hunchback hatchback with a cheap interior and lackluster performance. Then there was the Jeep Compass — a vehicle so utterly wrong-headed that, in the future, a Ph.D. candidate in marketing will write a thesis about it. Fortunately the 2007 Jeep Patriot is the best of this otherwise dysfunctional family. Rendezvous syndrome Perhaps it's the Rendezvous synd…

Jeep parking only at the rim of Ojos del Salado. Two Jeep Wrangler Unlimited vehicles climbed the world's highest volcano and set a new world record by climbing 6,646 meters (21,804 feet) to the volcano’s rim. Two Jeep Wrangler Unlimited vehicles carried a team from Extrem Events (Germany), led by Mattias Jeschke, from the base of the inhospitable Ojos del Salado volcano in the Chilean Andes to the highest point that a four-wheeled vehicle has traveled. I heard from someone today that the Chrysler dealers that are being shut down have to have their inventory gone by June 9th, and thus are offering 30-40% off MSRP on cars and 40-50% off MSRP on trucks and SUVs. Has anyone else heard this or have the ability to confirm it? Not that I'm going to be buying anything anyways most likely, but I do know a couple people possibly looking for a new car.

Last night was a tense time for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles as the clock was ticking to a 11:59 PM deadline before the contract extension for 40,000 UAW workers would end. But FCA and the UAW announced this morning they have reached another tentative agreement. The deal now heads to members to be voted on. “We heard from our members, and went back to FCA to strengthen their contract. We’ve reached a proposed tentative agreement that I believe addresses our members’ principal concerns about their jobs and their futures. We have made real gains and I look forward to a full discussion of the terms with our membership,” said UAW President Dennis Williams in a statement. …

2008 Dodge Avenger at MSN Autos Well, overall it seems as though the cars aren't nearly as bad as portrayed! However, I am rather irritable at the fact they see an estimated 27 miles per gallon highway as horrible for a V6. Um, you know, my 5-cylinder Rabbit is only rated at 29 highway.

2007 Dodge Caliber Trading perk for class. by Marty Padgett (2006-02-13) The Caliber five-door hatchback succeeds the four-door and two-door Neons in the Dodge lineup. But just so we're clear on this upfront, it's no Neon replacement. With its tougher, vaguely militaristic connotations right up front in the title, the Caliber drops the perky Neon overtones for a classier, more substantial, and far more upscale feel. The problem is, it's also more expensive than the Neon, in an age where sub-Neon cars are winning converts. Sans Neon rebates, you pay the price for the cargo-loving body style, for the standard curtain airbags and superior back-seat room. Dodge cro…

The United States isn't the only place the Dodge Caliber is selling like hot cakes. According to a report by Automotive News Europe, the Caliber is enjoying a great deal of success in many European markets, with many customers now facing six-month waiting lists. "We underestimated demand for the product," Chrysler's Thomas Hausch told the trade publication. So far, the car has been on the market for three months overseas. Sales thus far have totaled 3,238 Calibers in western Europe. In 2005, Dodge sold 311 vehicles in total in the same market. The vehicles are selling "without any incentives," a major dealer in Paris said.

Posted Aug 22nd 2008 9:28AM by Jeremy Korzeniewski Filed under: Minivans/MPVs, Humor What would happen if an old Plymouth Horizon mated with a Plymouth Voyager? See above. Despite the fact that Chrysler used to offer its minivans with two different wheelbases, this is a vehicle that was fortunately never released out of the factory doors. Our guess is that the owner, like us, never really cared for those old non-powered sliding doors anyway. Why not just get rid of 'em completely? Our favorite view of the bus shows that there's nearly as much front-overhang as there is metal between the axles. In all seriousness, the work that went into cutting this sucker in third…

Since someone posted about the MB lighting question, I have a Dodge one. Last week I was on Sunrise Highway and saw a Calibur signaling. I was in the left lane doing a conservative, well, I was going faster. When I passed it, I noticed it's headlight was flashing as a directional. I thought it was very odd. Then later I saw it changing lanes again and the other headlight was acting as a directional. It was during the day, and I wondered if it had something to do with it being more visible using daytime running headlamps. Is it just a freak of nature electrical problem or does someone know if it's supposed to do that?

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have been a bit behind the curve when it comes to alternative powertrains. But the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid shows the company is beginning to catch up. Speaking with The Truth About Cars, FCA's global hybrid chief Michael Duhaime said that hybrid power found in the next-generation minivan is very scaleable. “This’ll be the largest footprint — in the Pacifica. As we get into the smaller vehicles, basically what we’ll do is put smaller electric motors. The power electronics is part of the transmission … all that stays consistent. We’ll just go with smaller motors, and then the final drive will change with the different vehicles,” sa…

Dodge Ram Recall Repair Parts Rare The big truck of the company that tells you to "grab life by the horns" has currently been grabbed by the balls by a lack of parts to repair them. More than 140,000 2006 Dodge Ram 1500s are under recall because of front and passenger-side air bags and seat belts that might not function properly with child safety seats. Chrysler notified dealers about the recall Sept. 6. The automaker plans to tell vehicle owners in October, when it has enough replacement parts stocked up to do repairs. Dealers said they've received air bag replacement parts but are waiting for seatbelt parts. Read "Dealers lacking Ram repair parts" @ Detroit Free …

Automotive News - Chrysler group dealers and their lawyers are girding for a fight over the company's threat to yank the franchises of 173 dealerships because of poor sales. A letter this month by J.W. Dimond, Chrysler's national dealer placement manager, said dealers could lose their franchises if they do not meet their "minimum sales responsibility" within 180 days. Most state franchise laws require automakers to give dealers 180 days to correct performance issues before franchises can be terminated. The minimum sales responsibility is a monthly sales target that Chrysler sets for each dealership. Chrysler uses several factors, such as area population and the proximi…

Chrysler will cut 4Q production Press says automaker to purge vehicles, invest in new products David Shepardson | The Detroit News LAS VEGAS -- Chrysler LLC's top product strategist on Wednesday said the automaker will deepen production cuts in the fourth quarter while pumping $3 billion into developing new products. The company's market share outside of North America "rounds to zero," he said. "It can't go down. It will go up." Press said Chrysler has been building vehicles customers d…
