I've been wanting to start a joke thread, mainly so I can get some really good jokes to use when needed. It's decided. Gas just hit $3.77 down the street today. Were getting raped without a reach around & there's not a damn thing we can do about it! The end of an era. I had three, four and sometimes even FIVE V8-powered cars in my fleet at one point just in the past few years... now I'm down to only three cars, and while they're all V8s that's got to change as my wife is on dissability right now due to her very difficult pregnancy. She's not going to receive any pay since she wasn't with the company long enough. Missed it by ten days. So as much as it kills me, I've got to let either the B-59 or Banana go, and that's like deciding between …

I do an awful lot of thinkin' about cars throughout the course of my day.... I'm always boring Marcia with my "if I ever have the money..." and "wouldn't it be cool if..." type comments about cars. Anyway I just think there are many important questions out there that I need to answer during the course of my life. Here's a short list off the top of my head, thirteen to be exact since it's a lucky number. You are about to enter the empty space known only as: "Sixty8Panther's Brain" 1. How much money will it take to realize my dream of having a 30s Hot Rod powered by a radial aircraft engine? …

So the other day while at a junkyard I notice a mid 70s Datsun pickup sitting there, sinking into the mud slowly but surely. And I noticed the old school obnoxious Datsun emblem was still attached to the frail plastic grille. Well, I've been waiting to find a big Datsun emblem so I could replace the NISSAN badge on the grill of the Maxima so this was the day. Check out the results below. Also, in another thread recently I said I'd post the pictures of the custom cut vinyl decals I affixed to the Datsun. Here they are... Clockwise from top left: Just below the passanger side headlight, driver's side fender & trunklid. Yes it's ric…

So the other day I'm at home in the moring getting my day started, I've got several hours of painfully dull work ahead of me and in the mean time a client needs a delivery to western Mass. Since I'm busy and Marcia was going to visit her Friend Audrey anyway (who lives close by to the drop off point) she runs out wiht the Datsun and leaves me and at home to take care of myself and the baby... both sick with a bad cough, runny nose and worst of all a nasty sore throat. Several hours go by and I'm statring to get pissed. I call her on the cell phone and I'm like WTF? Where are you? This isn't a vacation I need you back here so I can concentrate on …

TOP (green) modified by pushing front wheel forward BOTTOM (silver/blue) production 2007 DTS The wheelbase is the only thing I modified, the overall length and all else is unchanged. This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about when I say that in profile FWD cars (with transverse mounted motors esp.) are awkward, ungainly & in many cases look just plain dumb to my eyes. The front wheels look like they've been pushed back 4" to 10" and the wheelbase looks way too short as a direct result. I think the green (modified) car looks a million times better. THOUGHTS!?

Well, here it is. The story of my little Crusaide down to New Jersey & Peensylvania as of last Friday. To prevent my photobucket account from maxing out in one day I've edited the pics down to a small size plus I had to pick and choose only the most relevant and interesting ones. I'm supposed to be dropping off the package 5 min. outside of Philadelphia at 8:30am but I've got a 6 hour ride ahead of me. Three digit speeds for long stretches help to put me back on schedule. Of course everyone's seen my '68 Panther (Camaro) vanity plates. They read PANTHR since we're only allowed six characters here in Massachusetts. But I also collect License Plates from all over the world. I've got like 47 or 48 of the United States, in some cases dozens of one state and like 200 of Mass and NH each. This one I got off of eBay and it's hanging up on the wall in my house. Another 170 or so are haning up in my shed/garage. Most I got off eBay and some are as old as the 1920s. Anyone else collect plates?

Only about a half dozen times in my life have I found myself so depressed, angry, despondent, miserable & distressed that even cars & car related activities did not lift my spirits... even thoe sight of a '69 Camaro or a '50s Cadillac did not put a smile on my face. I have reached rock bottom in my life. I'm really so upset and have been of the past two days I can not even acomplish basic tasks like basic math. Marcia (girlfriend of 4 years) has as of two days ago told me that we are through. Over. Done. Not even a chance in hell that she will make an effort at our relationship. Two year later I'm still waiting for a 5th gen. Camaro. When I opened up my copy of R&T and saw this I almost fell out of my Chair. I was working at Chevrolet of Lowell at the time as a salesman. I took it as a sign that within a few months, or certainly a year a ground up 5th gen. retro-69 Camaro would be hitting the streets. Meantime here it is Sept. 2005 and still nothing. Thank You Ramones. :)

Anyone watch this show? The finale was awsome. I loved the way they did the last few minutes of the last episode. Very moving. This is Dodgefan btw So we're still here, the car is finally about ready to go. Basically it's been an ongoing saga with the B-59 and it's water pump. JB Weld didn't work, Teflon Tape didn't work, so in the end we ended up drilling and threading holes for the impeller and the shaft, then after Paul, Jessica and I went to Sears for screws, we threaded them into the shaft to keep the impeller on, and cut the bolt heads off so they wouldn't hit anything. After that the 3 of us (while Sixty8 worked on the car), went on another trip to AutoZone and then Advanced Auto Parts for a belt that would fit the water pump/generator. Sixty8 managed to fit one on by the time we go…

The 'Camino has a kink in the hood from someone forcing it closed instead of oiling the hinges. It kinked at the built-in factory "fault line" . How reliably can that be fixed? I think I'm going to use the hood from the parts car instead, but if that one is too rough I might want to fix the original. I'm just concerned that it will be too weak to stay straight after being fixed. Watcha think?

I believe in fires at midnight when the dogs have all been fed. A golden toddy on the mantle a broken gun beneath the bed. Silken mist outside the window. Frogs and newts slip in the dark too much hurry ruins the body. I'll sit easy, fan the spark kindled by the dying embers of another working day. Go upstairs, take off your makeup, fold your clothes neatly away. Me, I'll sit and write this love song as I all too seldom do. Build a little fire this midnight. It's good to be back home with you.

There's a ton of Impalas on the road....of course it helps that there is a pretty sizable rental fleet of them too, but plenty of them are being bought as well...expect dub rims on a lot of them by January. I have a feeling the 3LT with the 17" split-star wheels will be the most popular seller, because it simply looks good stock. As far as the Civic, the coupe seems to be appearing three times as much as the sedan so far. Over at FoMoCo, I've seen three times as many Zephyrs as Fusions....and not one Milan yet. The Zephyr might be a bigger hit than we thought. Quite a few Range Rover Sports (an SUV I like) as well. The Charger's doing great...just l…

I'm a huge GM fan. They have showed brillance beyond compare and yet have made some of the dumbest decisions in automobile history. And they have been hugely successful in so many ways...like being number one a lot of years. Many stunning, many dreadful cars and a slew of marketing schemes later, there has been but one shining star in their orbit. Corvette. Clear visionary, purposeful, consistant, ever improving Corvette. Some close calls for sure and a couple of iffy years, but they stuck with the plan. Now, I say, take the Corvette team and put them in charge of GM and change the name of General Motors Corporation to Corvette Corporation. Because no matte…

I resigned from one a couple of months ago. I worked there for almost 3 years. The first 2 years were fine, but one day in early 2006, 6 people (the most promising employees) out of 40 quit and started their own firm. (They were guys who hung out together outside of work and did the beer/shooting range thing, so those of us who didn't "fit in" weren't invited along...no hard feelings). About 10 more left during 2006 because the atmosphere had become depressing. I thought about quitting immediately as their work would fall on other people's shoulders and stress everybody out, but I had to consider the following: - a hair under 2 years would not look good on a resum…

Hell Week for the Car Haters. Detroit. If you're into the whole car "thing," as virtually all of the readers of this publication are - then the third week of August is akin to our High Holy Days. Auto enthusiasts across the country are focused on two huge events this week: the Pebble Beach Concours and the Monterey Historic races on the West Coast, and the Woodward Dream Cruise in the northern suburbs of Detroit. Though polar opposites in style and tone, nonetheless these two automotive events (and countless others of lesser stature) define the car culture for auto enthusiasts across the country today. The events on the Monterey Peninsula (which Robert Louis Stephen…

Here's some reasons I hate 2008: 1. Cellphones and the incessant chattering of the masses, anywhere, anyplace 2. Overly refined cars and trucks. To the point of numbness. No sense of being connected to the road and surrounding environment. 3. The Green agenda. Sick to death of seeing it in every newscast, in every magazine and newspaper. The self righteous do-gooders have hijacked any remaining joy in life. It's the new religion. Cultish almost. 4. Vulgar and low class celebrities. 5. Buicks are no longer Buicks. I could go on and on.....tell us some reasons you hate 2008.

Linkity 'Infectious' People Spread Memes Across the Web 08:45 12 August 2009 by Colin Barras The way that certain images, videos or concepts can suddenly spread like wildfire across the web, using email and social websites to propagate, is one of online culture's most unique phenomena. Now Spanish researchers claim to have found a way to accurately predict how quickly and widely new pieces of information, or "memes" as they are called, will spread. The ability to forecast this "viral" behaviour would be of great interest to sociologists and marketeers, among others. The secret, they say, is to recognise the fact that peo…

What would you guys think if we offered forums for sponsorship with a small link to a sponsoring site, i.e. Would this be too obtrusive or diminish from the C&G experience? Just FYI, this would not lead to every forum being sponsored. This is currently just one forum, likely the Ford forum.

Have you heard about the new TV series coming. It's called Supernatural. It's these two brothers who travel around in their beat up '69 Chevy Impala to various small towns investigating strange goings-on. This one looks good to me. http://www.tv.com/supernatural/show/30144/summary.html

Know what replaced our G6 just today? Go on. Guess. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Well, here's a clue. It's got four-doors. It's red. And a blue Camry was setting in front of the dealership that we bought it from. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done guessing yet? Yes? Okay, good. You want to know what it is? You sure? Absolutely positive? Well, okay then. The one and only 2007 North American Car of the Year: the 2007 Saturn Aura XE V6 in Berry Red Metallic. I'll have photos as soon as I get my hands around a decent camera. So why did we get rid of our G6? It was a bad car, right? Nope. Not at all. That is, if it hadn't been in an…

Accused 147 mph speeder gets day in court By Mike Sakal, Tribune July 17, 2006 The Scottsdale speeding case that caught the attention of both car experts and photo enforcement critics moves into gear this week. Goodyear resident Lawrence Pargo, 26, pleaded not guilty following his May 21 drive on Loop 101 that city officials said reached speeds up to 147 mph. Some car enthusiasts doubted the accuracy of Scottsdale’s freeway photo enforcement program, saying Pargo’s rented 2006 Hyundai Sonata likely couldn’t go that fast. Pargo, who was charged with four counts of speeding, reckless driving and endangerment, is scheduled to appear in Scottsdale City Court at 2…

Black Barbie Sold for Less Than White Barbie at Walmart Store Walmart Says Lower Sales of Ballerina Theresa Barbie Prompted the Price Cut Walmart is raising eyebrows after cutting the price of a black Barbie doll to nearly half of that of the doll's white counterpart at one store and possibly others. A photo first posted to the humor Web site FunnyJunk.com and later to the Latino Web site Guanabee.com shows packages of Mattel's Ballerina Barbie and Ballerina Theresa dolls hanging side by side at an unidentified store. The Theresa dolls, which feature brown skin and dark hair, are marked as being on sale at $3.00. The Barbies to the right of the Theresa dolls, meanwhil…

* Did your vehicle(s) see any milestones in 2011? Some of my cars reached "important milestones" this year: 1979 CC ... 150,000 miles 1976 MC ... 63,000 miles & over 20,000 miles since I bought it 1979 MC ... 146,000 miles & over 40,000 miles since I bought it 1981 MC ... 194,000 miles AND, FINALLY ... my "Car Time" & "Nephew Time" happened TOGETHER, the last day of my "car season", 11/05/2011, when my sister & brother-in-law brought my nephew to see my cars outside, Saturday morning! My "Car Time" was shorter this year, partly because of health issues & my ROAD TRIP in the middle of the summer...: https://picasaweb.google.com/knightfan26917/C…

I don't see the problem... -- -- -- -- -- >>A jury has convicted an 80-year-old Wilmington, Del. woman of abusing her 82-year-old husband by forcing him to live at the family junkyard with a pot for bathing and couch to sleep on. Shirley M. Wilson told jurors she pulled her husband, who was a stroke victim, out of nursing home and set him up in a backroom of their office at the junkyard so he could "come home and get to work," according to The News Journal. Wilson represented herself. Last week's trial lasted three days and then jurors convicted Wilson of elderly abuse. Don Wilson was found lying on the couch in a soiled diaper and pajama top in late March…

Just to clarify for the one or two who did not get it, the remark about insta-banning PINGAS meme posters for being "trolls" was a joke, an example of dry humor. I was pretty sure that anyone remotely paying attention since, oh, about 2002 would have figured out that I have a very dry sense of humor, but apparently not. Is PINGAS no longer funny? Oh, absolutely. It is played out beyond belief, as I and numerous other posters have pointed out. BUT--insta-banning PINGAS offenders was just NOT a serious suggestion. I'm well aware that this site has a process of raising a "warning level" in 20% increments, imposing posting approval, temporary time outs from posting, and…

OK, this is a crazy question. All of my college training deals is ultra-pratical -- how things go together and how to look at/evaluate money. Society stereotypes certain jobs as male (miner) and certain jobs as female (make-up artist), for example. Is there an occupation typical of the other gender that you could do, or would do? Since I asked the question, I'll go first. I practically live at Borders or Barnes and Noble, so I could have been a librarian (work with books and information all day, and get paid for it). It's far from my first occupational choice, but it's the only one that comes to mind that is not a male dominated field, not by a long shot. But …

So, I go to visit my girlfriend after lunch today, and I see this (Yes, I had to circle around to get a better look)... Its facing westbound in an eastbound lane. I think one of the decorative rocks took out the rear axle. Maybe not. Regardless, someone got one hell of a nice start to the weekend. Sorry if the pic quality is meh; used my camera phone. Oh, and I don't remember if I've posted these before. If not, here are my "Dude, you just f**ked up your Hyundai" pics from a few months ago...

Um OK I had a customer come in this afternoon with a Sable, saying someone backed into him in a parking lot. He needed an estimate. He said the hood wouldn't open. I was expecting a need to call for a rental car by his initial description. When I got out there, there was a tiny spot of black rubber residue on his right side fender from the Toyota SUV's tire that backed into him, no dent. I couldn't think of a reason why the hood would be affected from such miniscule contact, so I stood at the hood and asked the customer to pull the release while I pulled out every trick I could think of to persuade the hood to open. Nothing worked. I asked the customer to trade …

You're out of town and you're bored....or actually interested....in CARS. So you go down to the local car dealership that has the brands you like to look around. Am I the only one that does this? I hope not. Well, when I do, I always preface any approach with "I'm not local...not from the area. I'm just looking." This way, they don't "invest" their time in me. This weekend, I went out of town in a rental car. I see a B-P-GMC dealer and decide to stop to peruse the inventory, seeing there were some GPs and LaXs. I was dressed in shorts, t-shirt and sandals and, as the salesman approached, I said "I'm not from the area. I'm just looking around." So, I proceeded t…

First Day Of Fishing By BV All across the beautiful state of Pennsylvania, people came out on April 15 to celebrate the first day of fishing. Obviously that meant reveilling their homosexuality, but it also meant they had to get ready for this wonderous day. Here, I and my alter-ego... which means just that, BV, will help get you ready... from preparing yourself to finding your spot. After that, I might fill you in on the fishing part, too. First off, you must find a spot to go fishing. You don't want someplace that will attract crowds... You never know what bodily fluids may be floating around in the water. You don't want no gang-bangs. Unless you like that, stay aw…
