While visiting with the owner of my local Chevy Dealer, the subject of GM's future came up. He stated that with 40% of GM dealers being closed, it will be impossible for GM not to file for BK. He stated that GM could not get enough government cash, and doesn't have enough lawyers to cover all of the potential law suits. At the end of the conversation i was in agreement with him regarding this matter. Any thoughts on this?

Donna Harris Automotive News September 10, 2007 - 12:01 am EST General Motors says it is tossing the results of some recent customer satisfaction surveys because dealers tampered with the responses. That decision could cost offending dealerships big factory bonuses. GM surveys customers who buy new vehicles or submit factory warranty claims about their satisfaction with the dealership's performance. Dealerships that get high scores on those surveys and meet sales targets are eligible for quarterly cash incentives that can reach six figures. The satisfaction surveys are sent to customers' homes to discourage dealer influence. Customers respond by mail or onlin…

Sixty8, you should know what I found, a 1981 Chrysler Imperial Frank Sinatra Edition. It is located in New York and is on Ebay. I have already contacted the seller because I find this a nice and desirable car. For me it is a must have. Classy and there was 148 built in 81. So far it is at $800. I will see what the buyer says because I want to bring it back to Canada but I may have time to meet up with some members if I do. SHipping is too expensive so we would rent a U-Haul or borrow our friends flatbed to bring it over. Just depends if the buyer will sell it to Canadians. If not then I will be extremely mad because these are rare. It is such a good price too for what …

I'm in DC all this week. I arrived on Sunday. In the two and a half days I've been here I've seen 6 new Toyota Avalon taxi cabs in black or beige just in the small 10 block radius I'm staying. They haven't been beat to hell and back...... yet......but I wonder how they'll hold up over time. Interestingly, DC must not have the age or mileage laws for Taxi cabs as NYC because I have seen a number of B-body wagons from all 3 divisions that made them still chugging about. On my way back from lunch, I was passed by a Custom Bruiser in surprisingly good condition for any 14 year old car, much less a cab.

Mike Wood’s Duramax-powered ’04 Ford Mustang The thought of a big-cubic-inch diesel engine in a light car seems to excite just about everyone, but perhaps the most impressive swap of the decade has been Mike Wood’s Duramax-powered Mustang. When we featured the car in 2008, it was running low 10s in the quarter-mile and achieving more than 30 mpg at Hot Rod magazine’s Drag Week—and that was just the start. Later, a Gear Vendors Overdrive was added to the 4L80E transmission, the engine was hopped up a bit more and given larger doses of nitrous, and the entire combination was fine-tuned. Then Mike went racing. Although not as publicized as they perhaps should have been, …

I was hungry so I cooked myself a decent Sunday Dinner: Glazed ham slice Leftover ham from Easter. I put a slice of it in a pan with a little water, honey, ground ginger and a dash of ground cloves. Cooked it down on medium high heat until the liquid was syrupy. Stuck it on a plate and poured the glaze over top. Baked Mac-N-Cheese Cooked some macaroni and set it aside. Mixed Velveeta, cream cheese, shredded sharp cheddar and milk with pimentos, paprika, cayenne pepper, a dash of garlic powder and a little flour to bind it together. Heated it until melted, poured it over the mac, topped it with bread crumbs mixed with melted butter and baked it. Steamed Asparagus…

SPOILER ALERT!! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE YET DON'T READ THIS UNLESS YOU WANTS POILERS (AND DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO SEE IT!!) Since GMTruckGuy74 started spilling spoilers because he wanted to talk about the movie, and since those of us who have seen it are probably dying to talk about it, I made this thread so we can discuss it without ruining the movie for everyone who hasn't seen it yet. At least, that's the idea I'll start. Do you think we've seen the last of him? If history is any indication, I doubt it. Even with the water pressure 7 miles below sea level, I doubt it would be enough to crush him and the others..plus he has a general knack for coming back…

For like 8-10 years I have had my own .com primarily for useless reasons, and to run a constant and consistent email address through it. My domain i believe is paid and registered through like 2010 or 2011 but here is the catch. they keep fcking with their email plan and setup. and it pisses me off. I route all of the mail through this domain through an all inclusive gmail account because its on the cloud. One of the reasons i did this was first the domain host changed the inbox size from very big to -5 MB- stored unless i wanted to pay like 20 bucks a month. Automotive News January 14, 2008 - 12:01 am ET Toyota's sprawling Georgetown factory in Kentucky horse country has taken over as the top-producing vehicle assembly plant in North America. For eight consecutive years, that honor went to General Motors' Oshawa car plant in Ontario. Georgetown finished on top in 1998, the year a long GM strike knocked the Canadian operation out of first place. Oshawa No. 1 and No. 2 are in the same building so are counted as a single plant. GM's Oshawa truck assembly is in a separate building and not included. In 2007, Georgetown turned out 514,382 vehicles, up 2.1 percent from 2006. Oshawa produced 470,016 units, a decline of …

OK, some strange situation arose for my G6. I talked to my dad, and since we wanted to lose the dependency on the co-lessee, my dad is now financing me instead, and we are going to cash purchase it. Something to do with the insurance stuff. However, I called the dealer today in order to deal the price of the car again, and all of a sudden I was told that the saleslady I was dealing with is no longer with the dealership, and now I find myself dealing directly with the sales manager. Things were wierd. I sent her numerous e-mails in the past week, none of them got replied. About 2 days ago, when I got worried about my deposit, I went in to confirm the status of my car, sh…

I'm inquiring about two 2009 GM-issued calendars that dealers receive (or buy?) and distribute to their customers: 2009 GM Muscle Cars 2009 GM Classic Cars & Trucks I've tried a bunch of my local dealers to see if they had either calendar to give me with no luck (one dealer said that "GM stopped doing them over a decade ago" ). Do any of our dealership personnel here have access to these calendars? I'd definitely like to get one of each, if possible, and I'm willing to reimburse the cost of shipping. Thanks in advance!!

A thread about cars you used to not like and now like. Or. About cars you used to like but now dont like. I felt I needed to come back and write about a car. This is more written for @Frisky Dingo as we go back a long time and I felt I needed to tell him that as of today, I like the McLaren F1. I didnt like this car then, but I stumbled on Jay Leno's garage and instantly, I have feelings for it. Enough for me to try and buy a 1:18 scale of it to add it to my collection. I didnt need Jay Leno to tell me all that as I KNEW what the McLaren was all about... What I did NOT know was that it won Lemans 24 h…

Ok, so I rarely use my card, no real need to, cash gets things paid off immediately, but on Monday I had a work related meeting ( a whole different story) and had to dress professionally, so I went to the mall and bought $100 in new clothes so I could make the meeting on time, dressed decently. Tuesday comes around and I'm running low on gas, so I pull up to the pump, slide the card (I had used the last of the cash in my pocket on Chinese food) and it gets declined. So I check my online statement and it says that due to "high risk" activity, my card has a block on it. Today I finally got around to calling, apparently that $100 (which came nowhere close to putting me ov…

Well... Today's my brother's birthday, he turned 14. I still remember that morning like it was yesterday- I spent the night at my grandparents place and we rushed over to the Rockyview Hospital in their then new Emerald Green 1994 Neon Sport Sedan (with the automatic) so I could see my new baby brother... We were trying to meet my dad but when he was going down an elevator we were going up and vice versa- my grandfather was 65 then. Today, in that very hospital, two floors above the maternity ward, my grandfather lies suffering from congestive heart failure and a collapsed lung at age 80 (He's fine for now)... We're not sure what's the cause but they think it's a leaky …

The latest version of Autoline Detroit makes me think that the press is starting to get the idea that the foreign cars aren't so hot. Comments on the new accord include, loud & buzy. toyota isn't given much for positive comments on their current state. It was even noted that a few years ago the head of toyota bowed and appologized to Heads of State in Japan only to have the years following have toyota continue to produce poor quality products. http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/

I need to find the headlight adjuster for a '99ish Volvo wagon (a V40 I think). If anyone has a hookup for a used one, or knows an aftermarket source, please let me know. It's a needlessly complex affair made of plastic that just dry-rots and crumbles. I was replacing the bulb for my lanlord/employer and the damn thing just gave way.

I'm looking for a few things for the Cavalier to correct some of my frustrations with the car... First of All I'm looking for a Delco Electronics AM/FM/CD Stereo w/Theftlock that would fit the 1995-1999 Cavalier to replace the current unit, a Cassette unit: What would be the best place to get one? Junkyard? Ebay? I know that if I watch my prices I could get one on Ebay for about 50-70$ USD (46-65$ CDN) I know the dealer would rape me on the price, but if I went to a junkyard with a screwdriver and found a Cavalier, Malibu, Lumina, Camaro, or Venture with one, what would would you say is a fair price for one? Also... I think I may get a new rear bumper cover fo…

That's my modded ZR1 in Forza, passing a Veyron. It was tough to do, had to outdrive him as he clearly still had me in terms of sheer car abilities.

Found this on autoblog while at work today.pretty sweet. http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/18/buck-ro...truck-is-ready/ The company that built this is located in my hometown of Madison, AL. In fact, my H.S. chemistry teacher is married to the president of the company.

All right, I know venting isn't something I do regularly on here, but this time I have to. Today was "lets order everything from CarQuest at once" day. I've never filled so many big freaking orders in my life. First call of the day: Its one of our bigger shops with 12 service bays total, 8 indoor, 2 outdoor, and 2 alignment racks. Well guess what... THEY"RE ALL FULL, and he needs parts for every single one of 'em. Normally vehicles are split into different tickets with different PO's from this customer, but this time he didn't even have time to give me different PO's, he just said to put it all on one ticket and use SHOP as the PO, so away I went: Bay 1: 2002 Che…

I have a bicycling issue, I was hoping someone on here could help out, I know some of you have mentioned biking as a hobby in the past. Basically, I've spent the last 2 years doing short, intense rides, a couple of hours at a time over hellacious terrain, and my body is used to it. My issue is, I'm going to do a charity ride (Start to Finish MS, anyone want to donate?) in September , it'll be 80-100 miles each way (dont know the route yet) and I'm worried about trying to turn myself into an endurance cyclist. Today, I went on a 40 mile ride, that frankly didn't go well. My ass was in the most extreme pain I've felt in years and my back didn't feel that greta either. …

The Beginning It was Fall of the year 2004, as I looked for my first car. I really wanted a Fiero. I looked for one left and right. I knew it was a longshot, but I would constantly dream of it and had hopes it would become a reality. Soon enough, the idea was shot down by my parents, only after agreeing to it earlier. I wasn't happy, needless to say, but my search continued into the Winter. My dad would always buy the weekly Trade book, looking for deals. Soon enough, we came across an ad for a 1995 Grand Am GT with a manual transmission for $1000. My thoughts were "Atleast it's a manual". I wasn't overly enthusiastic, but I thought it would be a decent car. We called t…

[source: Wall Street Journal] EU Penalizes China Steel Bloc's Switch to Pre-Emptive Import Tariffs Signals Growing Protectionism By JOHN W. MILLER BRUSSELS -- European Union trade officials approved pre-emptive penalties on imports of steel pipe from China, a precedent-setting move that suggests the trading bloc is growing more protectionist in the face of the economic downturn. Tuesday's vote by trade officials from the EU's 27 member states is significant, say trade experts, because they accepted an argument from steel producers -- including the world's largest by volume, ArcelorMittal -- that punitive tariffs are needed …

A friend of ours organized a car show for a local high school. Apparently, someone had a video camera and put a couple of video compilations on YouTube. It was probably someone from the Mustang club. The show was small, but it was a success financially and actually had a good turn out given the size of the school and the fact that it was an inaugural event. The only bad thing was that we all got sun poisoning. The '68 can be seen at 3:06 of part 1 and the '73 can be seen at 3:31 of part 1. Not a bad showing for their first time out of the garage in a couple of years. Around 1:16 of part 1 is our friends (The one who organized the show) very sweet '79 Trans Am. Part…

Yikes! Since I was at the dealership making an appointment to get the wife's bumper repainted (they've done it once already), I figured I'd ask how much it would cost to get the rust spots fixed underneath 2 of her doors, since we are keeping her car. And they did a good job on the Balt..... 500 bucks for those spots! Damn! I would like to make it look nice, but not for that price...as much as I hate to do it, sanding it off and spraying on some Por may just be it.....

We're probably going to replace the tires on the TB, and I've been looking through reviews, but it seems everything has about as many good reviews as bad reviews. Anyone have any suggestions? Want good handling in all conditions (obviously), smooth and quiet. It seems the Goodyear Fortera TripleTreds are genuinely liked by most everyone, but they're rather pricey.

Well, 10 years ago today - March 15, 2002 - I became a member of CheersandGears.com. I am not the oldest posting member by any means, [cough]Camino[/cough] , but I have never left this place for more than a week's time (hey, sometimes I needed a vacation!). I have learned quite a bit about my favorite automaker, more than I sometimes wanted to know about other automakers, have met a bunch of C&G members over the years in person, and have been blessed with gifts from members past and present (and have tried to do my share of "passing it forward"). This is the place I come to for my daily dose of automobilia and don't foresee me leaving any time soon (God willingly!)…

Stumbled on this: http://conceptrends.com/2009/03/15/green-f...in-south-korea/ I learn something every day. Apparently in Korea, trees don't require space for roots, and there aren't horrific winds at skyscraper heights! Some of the balconies may be ok (and some probably intolerably windy), but I can tell you this - those parks in the spaces that are open all the way through the building aren't going to have a single leaf on the trees. Wind tunnel anyone? The general idea is neat, but overall it seems like the ideas that make it interesting and unique are the most flawed.
