Cadillac Escalade power wheels I had one of these things when I was little, except it was a Jeep Wrangler. I didn't know these things were RWD...the kid has some trouble navigating the grass. Watch toward the end...the kid rams it into a mailbox. I can just imagine the Sierra Club fuming right now... LOL, here's another...this is the like the Wrangler I used to have, except it was red. Who else has been enjoying this big storm thats been going across the nation? It started raining last night and didn't let up, it turned into freezing rain and finally snow this evening. The best part is that I had to drive around randomly assessing the roads so I could decide wether or not any stores needed to be closed. Since half the town was a sheet of ice and there were no plows in sight, one delivery only store had to be closed. After that I got bored so I came home and couldn't get the Fusion into my garage (driveway is a pretty steep incline) so I left it at the end of the driveway and came inside. Then I used some Nair I found to eliminate a single gigant…

I went to vote at about 7:40 this AM. Had to wait about 20 minutes. There was an obvious lesbian couple in front of me (in the conservative suburbs, no less) but we have Prop 8 on our ballot in CA. Guess what? They were NICE to me, believe it or not, and we conversed a little bit, but mostly about the economy and because one of them worked for a homebuilder....and I was dressed in a very conservative coat and tie, so what's that offputting vibe I give off? They hand me my ballot and HALF of it was in Espanol. Thus, there were equal portions of English and Spanish. I'm sorry, but part of being a U.S. citizen implies that you speak the language to some rudimentary…

So a few hours ago I was flipping channels between Emeril's Moules a la Mariniere recipe (blegh) and SPEED's Forza Motorsport Challenge infomerical-cum-reality-show, when I happened to come across The O'Reilly Factor. Bill's sharp inward-pointed eyebrows and self-confident smirk just beckoned me to stay a bit longer. And so I did. As popular in these shows, there was a riveting headline. Today's was "Liberals Against Raising Fuel Economy Standards," which was accompanied by a montage of both Pontiac G6 and pump meter stock footage. First he lambasted American automobile manufactuers over an alleged refusal to reduce fuel consumption. To prove his point, he showed Ron Ge…

I'm trying to write a novel...just for kicks. It has an automotive theme, and this is the chapter I introduce the firebird. Main Charactor is a 17 year old boy named Carl. It had only been too easy for the bird to kill its prey. Fishing with dynamite, really. And she wasn’t even a real bird. She was a Pontiac Formula Firehawk, One of the last ones off of the line and one of the fastest ones Pontiac had built. Men who work around machines will tell you that if you take a hundred identical machines, 4 or 5 won’t work all that well at all. Lemons some call them. Others merely cuss at them as they have to go back for a fourth service call to fix them. About 85 or 9…

I think I've run this one before, but we have quite a few new people.Birth order is interesting and actually regarded as being somewhat psychologically valid. That being said, where are you in the birth order, how many kids are there and what are the genders of those older and younger than you? Also, which ones do you get along and not get along with? My answer: I'm the youngest of 2 - same parents for both - oldest is a brother. Do not get along with him (have not spoken with him since 1995, or thereabouts).

Can you figure this out? Although is it a very old video, I thought maybe we could have some fun with this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSLBtm__aKw Now the YouTube video is of lower quality (that's hard to manage) than the original which is hosted at TruTV's website. If you live in a state that a.) has been awash in rainstorms for days on end and b.) borders the Mississippi or Ohio Rivers, there is a great certainty that you've probably heard about the Army Corps of Engineers blowing a hole in the Bird's Point Levee in Missouri to relieve residents of Cairo, Illinois of any serious flood threat while, simultaneously, destroying 130,000 acres of prime farmland in Missouri. A tragic story that's slightly twisted in what sacrifice it makes, but nonetheless interesting considering what geological region this story has unfolded within. I'm of course talking about the New Madrid fault line here, which encompasses the states of Illinois, In…

What is so cool about riding around in your base model with no wheel covers? I am still seeing a lot of cars riding on black steelies. What is the purpose of it? Why is it cool? They're keeping those black steelies clean as a whistle, too. I was thinking maybe it is a drag racing thing, where the racing tires are mounted on steelies, so maybe it's supposed to make that Cavalier/Focus/Jetta/Cobalt/ION/xB etc look like a RACE CAR. Can someone enlighten me? And when are the OEMs going to jump on this? Make those plastic wheel covers an option, since so many come off immediately anyway.

You walk out to the parking lot of the Olive Garden together, only to find out she (he?) drives a........... (insert car here). Did it just burst your bubble? For some reason, I've been eying the old Opel GT lately. There's something about the thought of an uncommon vintage mini-Vette that just leaps out and grabs me. Of course, eyeballing gives way to Craigslisting the hell out of a 200 mile radius of your area and, as my luck would have it, I found a drivable example somewhere in Nashville. Did you click the link? Okay, okay. I already know what you're thinking. Yeah, the impromptu camo paintjob was more than likely done by someone at some point in the little Opel's lifetime with a few too many rattle cans of paint, a few too many cans of Coors, but far fewer bright ideas. Yes, it has its share of dents and dings and minor s…

Never done it, haven't looked at many. I have a area of interest that I would very much like to share with others. In fact I am, to a degree, driven to do so. I am still considering publication, but with friends having gone thru that (successfully), it's an arduous task. Websites get lost in the oceanic shuffle, relevant pre-existing sites either disappear or have a self-imposed system that precludes the type/source of my interest (Wikipedia). What's the scuttlebutt on the blog universe, and does anyone pay any attention??

m.leftlanenews.com/nissan-recalls-2014-leaf-over-missing-welds.html Nissan has issued a recall for a limited number of 2014 Leaf vehicles. Some of the hatchbacks may have left the factory without proper welds on the front structural member assembly, compromising the integrity of the vehicle. The company suggests the defect may not be noticed unless the vehicle is involved in a crash. Engineers believe the missing welds run afoul of federal safety requirements related to occupant crash protection. The problem appears to be limited to Leaf units that were manufactured at Nissan's Smyrna, Tennessee, plant between February 28 and March 12 of this year. Owners will be ask…

I have an NEC "MultiSync LCD 1765" monitor, and it has a vertical blue line about a third of the way across the screen. Should I be prepared for the worst? Will it operate indefinitely like this? It is only slightly annoying.

I have a 2013 Buick LaCrosse. I've used both iPhones and Android phones paired to my car, no problem. I always "voice dial" which ridiculously requires me to turn the radio on before it accepts commands, but in the past several months, I'd say 50+% of the time, I get the "Dialing failed" comment. Let me break it down. Previously what would happen: 1) Press voice command button and hear, "Please say your command." 2) I say, "Call Melinda on cell." 3) "Dialing".... and call goes through. Now, more than half the time: 1) Press voice command button and hear, "Please say your command." 2) I say, "Call Melinda on cell." 3) *long pause* 4) "Dialing failed." 5)…

When you've just completed your bouncing-off-the-rev-limiter, lame-ass drift in your riced (or is that sauerkrauted) BMW, no matter how many extra points you think the judges may award you for it or how cool you think it looks, it is usually a really bad idea to get out of your car while the back tires are still spinning. not for the overly sensitive

I'm pretty limited: 1. Pictionary 2. Trivial pursuit Haven't played cards in over 10 years. Pictionary: got "Times Square" once...quickly drew an aerial of the 5 boroughs and then lined in "Bdwy - 7th - 42nd" and our team got it as a result of it. I had to draw fast. Trivial Pursuit: you want me on your team for the geography questions...this chick once insisted she knew the answer and didn't...it was about a body of water touching Iran....the answer was "Caspian Sea" and I knew that...well, we got it wrong....pushy bitch.

The Colbert Report Get More: Colbert Report Full Episodes,Political Humor & Satire Blog,Video Archive If you missed it, well, there it is. Bob Lutz is 80, not fond of Republican GOP front-runner Mitt Romney, is very fond of the Chevy Volt, and can kick your ass at push-ups, especially if your name is Stephen Cobert.

Today balthazar is happy because today my brother, a good buddy and myself reinstalled the body of my '59 back on it's beefy boxed frame!! So good to have my pride & joy back in only 1 garage bay! No problems to report, no mishaps, only 1 of the 16 bodyshell mounts requiring a bit of prying to align. All new rubber bushings & bolts/washers. Body has 2x3 steel tubing inside the rockers: much like another set of frame rails. This baby is going to be stiff! Even with no weight on it, she sure sits pretty on those 315/60-15 rears. Rear tires fill the wheelwells to perfection. Car height matches factory as it sits (57") but will drop 2 more inches I predict, once do…

Boeing just announced another major delay in their launch of the new 787 Dreamliner...a single-story twin-aisle versatile jetliner that replaces the 757/767 combo. These will be able to service LA to Denver....or LA to London. The concept is great. However, they have halted the production of the fuselage for re-design. I am wondering: - is the snag in their all-over-the-map production scheme? - or is it in the revolutionary change to composites? I don't think the first 747 saw this kind of bumbling. Pan Am signed the launch customer agreement in 1966 and its historic flight took place in Feb. 1969. Have you been following the 787 Dreamliner saga?

I know what you're all thinking; "What happened to my Jalopnik??" Don't worry, we're not a fully engaged Planelopnik just yet, but we had to show you this newest iteration of the F-15. It's a Jalopnik-esque story of a beat up and forgotten platform, that's been revamped and re-engineered to compete with the newest bad boys on the scene, the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Boeing is marketing the new F-15 Silent Eagle for the international set that want to get into the modern jet age, but don't have access to our newest, greatest ninja toys. The customers that Boeing has aimed its sights at are Israel, Japan, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and South Korea, which are …

Boeing to deliver first 787 after years of delays Link: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Boeing-to-deliver-first-787-apf-4218156513.html Boeing delivers its first 787 jet on Sunday. It's been a long time coming. The new jet, which was supposed to be flying passengers three years ago, has been delayed by production and design problems. But now it's here, and airlines expect it to offer travelers much more comfort, open up new routes and provide significant fuel savings. The first one goes to Japan's All Nippon Airways, which has been printing the 787 logo and "We Fly 1st" on its business cards for years. Airlines love the jet, which Boeing calls the Dreamliner. Th…

So on Comcast right now Encore OnDemand has 17 James Bond films (all except Goldeneye to QoS) I have to say after watching all the movies (and getting 3 more so far on netflix) that this series is FTW! My favorite line is when Q says "Pay attention 007"

This is a Land Rover Freelander: Want to take a guess on where the main brake lights are? That's right. The brake lights are the two little red portions of the rectangles on the bottom of the rear bumper. The two circular lights were you would expect the brake lights to be are (as far as I know) just there for show. I was behind one of these in traffic the other night and following it was just as bad as if it had no brake lights at all (slight exaggeration but it was still disconcerting having to look at the bumper of a car to see if it was braking). The fact that the third brake light was out and the brake lights barely lit up any brighter when braking didn't h…

I was wondering if $25800 CAN is a good price for a fuly loaded 2004 Bonneville GXP w/o NAV with 32000kms? I think it is a good deal and it is a beautiful car. It is black. I am thinking it is a good deal because they had a used Solstice with 1700 kms and it was gone in 2 days. They also get rid of almost any car they have in about a week.

This weekend, my wife & I had planned a trip to Yellowstone, but the weather turned crappy. So last minute we picked out a destination to the south for better weather, and went to the Great Basin National Park. Beautiful hiking & caves, good times. Drove partway home yesterday & spent the night at Windover, and soon learned it's on the edge of the Utah Salt Flats. This morning we popped by the Bonneville Speedway, where all the racing happens on the salt flats. I didn't know what to expect, but I figured there would be at least some kind of dragstrip-esque buildings. Nope, nothing. No one was out racing either, unfortunately, but there were some folks a…
