I hate this condition but I run into it a lot, juggling a full time job and taking 2 tough classes at night. Usually, one of the two parts of my life slides a little bit and then I play catch up. I can pull a "marathon" and get it done, usually with decent results. The problem is that I almost always get sick right after making a big deadline or the end of the semester as all of the pressure lifts all at once.

Next-generation iPod Shuffle: 1 Gb (~240 songs), 8 hours battery. 1.6x1.1x0.46 inches, 0.55 ounces. CAD$90 / US$80. This thing is crazy small. I saw the pictures when I ordered it, but I still can't believe it now that it's here. It's got a clip on the back to clip in into your clothes, etc... I clip it into my work ID badge and hardly notice it's there. One thing I can't believe - the docking station loads all the data and charges the battery through the headphone jack! Oh, and just to be a smartass I ordered it with a message written on the back: "White headphones make you cool."

Happy New Year, gang. I hope that this next year is a good one. I've had worse ones, but I hope the next one is better. I will be making some very big changes, so I am a little anxious about them. At any rate, what are your plans for the holiday weekend? I have NONE...and that's ok. I might head up to some hot springs if the roads are ok....which I didn't do when I turned in my last final in mid-December. It will be nice to have no plans, for a change. What about you?

The last car (and my only new car) I bought is my 1992 Regal. I still have it, as most of you know (** as you scream Cheapskate! **) The MSRP sticker was $ 18,736 and I got it for $ 16,900 without even saying a word. I went in there with a typed list of all the codes and MSRPs...I guess they don't see that often. So, on 5-16-92, right after getting back to Portland from Champaign IL (bleh!), I took delivery of the car. Now, the MSRPs on the sleds I am currently looking at are in the $ 23,500 to $ 24,500 range. Some have incentives of $ 1,000 or $ 1,500, for example. In your mind, that means that you should be able to get the initial deal (the dealer's "issue" - …

Ugh! Another Saturday night has come and gone. My life has settled into such a rut. I can sit in a chair and practically imagine the entire weekend in my head to the extenet that the experience would be nearly the same as living it. Shopping, cleaning, laundry, paying bills, going to the gym, going out to the bars...it's all become so repetitive and boring, I'm going a little crazy. Even the coming of spring just adds more home maintenance and yardwork into the mix. I try to shake things up to the extent I can, but being single I have to do everything myself. Getting the things done I have to do leaves me only a small amount of time for fun. All of my friends t…

But only for a short time, its time to restore my computer again after about 8-9 months since the last time....I know it's a little late in the year to say this, but my new year's resolution is no more internet porn. My damn computer is running like I'm on a 28.8 dial up connection. This damn computer is so clogged up with $h! that my Spy Killer dosen't even work anymore and freezes everytime I use it, I've even uninstalled it and reinstalled it to no avail. So now I must go, I leave you all for the next hour or so and hopefully the pastures will be greener on the other side....or at least my damn computer will run normal....who knows, but off into the…

June 10, 2007 Tokyo, Japan Toyota Motor, under intense pressure, today announced a recall of the special edition of their Yaris subcompact car. Known as the Yaris Hilton, the unique, black and white striped runabout features a "distressed" pink leather interior. Owners are urged to return the vehicles to a service facility immediately for the following conditions: the horn engages on its own and will not stop blowing, even if the battery is disconnected. Owners report the horn blows constantly until, as it begins to burn out, it becomes so shrill only spayed and neutered neighborhood dogs can hear it. Also, the headlight washers, through a short in the body control…

This is a public service announcement. http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tund...ures-i-am-club/ By the time you reach this link, it may be dead. In some cases, I've had to go to the website directly and then nagivate down. There is another Tundra storm abrewing. And it's not looking good for Toyota. Is the liftgate really considered another door by Toyota? Should anyone be able to use their truck to haul ATVs? Could someone get hurt from this? As one of the owners experiencing this problem stated, we need to let everyone know.

With the official start-of-holiday-shopping day known as "Black Friday" quickly approaching, what is everyone asking for this year? Due to our financial situation, we're concentrating less on adults (including ourselves) and more on making the Christmas holiday for the children in our family a nice one. Anyone hoping to get that one (or two or three or more!) special present? If so, what is it?

I bought a refurbished computer a couple months ago (Gateway QuadCore 32-bit, 4 gigs RAM, GeForce 9800 GT card, Vista Home) and keep it defragged and do a file clean on a regular basis. It's fast and has no problems with graphic-demanding games like GTA IV. But when it comes to the internet, it can be a real bitch sometimes as far as speed goes. My internet provider is Mediacom and I have an 8 mb/sec download speed, but the overall performance ranges from horrible on IE7 to mediocre on Google Chrome. Firefox falls in the middle. Does anyone know what the cause is, and if there are any solutions? Is it due to Vista? Perhaps Norton system scan is being a pig in the …

I want to hear better stories than mine. New Year's Eve - worked the whole day while others split early. Went on a mission to clean up my whole place and put everything in order for the new year and got a damn good start - paperwork, backing up computer, etc. Went out and chatted with neighbors at around that time. New Year's Day - was an idiot... went to Tahoe. Thought I'd have the place to myself... 65,000 people had partied there the night before and were still hanging around. 20 minutes in line at Starbucks, etc. I got over the pass over there without chains. Started raining at about 5 pm and, at 6,000 to 7,000 feet, it was snowing but wit…

This last weekend I went shoping with daughter #4 for her first new car. Like most people in her postion (and mine) money is important. My plan was to get a Chevy Cobalt LS with automatic transmission utilizing the almost $3000 GM card rebate. The test drive was ok, perhaps a lttile underwhelming to me. My daughter didn't like it all saying that it seemed like a rental car. I have no idea where she learned that expression. Things got worse as the nice, industrious young man who was helping us (3.5 weeks on the job) introduced us to his sales manager. Oh my God! What an obnoxious slimey, iley character he was. Slight of build and full of the strangest facial expres…

I see those commericials from time to time. You know, the commericials promising that if you buy a car from Police Auctions and so forth, you can get a car from $500 bucks and up. Now, I don't know if I would go that route, but the word "police" got me thinking about a car...to be more specific, a 1994 - 1996 Chevy Caprice 9C1. The same car that Johnny Law used (and is still using somewhere) to write John Public a speeding ticket. Why the 9C1? Well, truth is, I'd settle for a Classic from that year range. And God knows I'd be happy with an Impala SS. Who wouldn't? I guess I'm singling out the 9C1 is because it has a heavy-duty suspension along with engine and tranny twe…

Not that I'd ever try to out run a State Trooper since a radio is quicker than any car but a Charger Statie is much more intimidating than a Crown Vic wiht a 4.6 Mod motor. Ford needs to redesign the Crown Vic. Keep it BOF, RWD & V8 obviously but put in the 5.4 so it does 0-60 in less than like 8 sec. otherwise these Dodges will eat up a good portion of the Interceptor Ford's sales. This thing is SICK looking in the Mass Navy-Blue & Battleship Gray combo.

I need a history report on a 1988 Dodge Aries LE. It is for sale at my local Toyota dealer for $200. The salesman who I know pretty well said it was driven by an old lady who died and his buddy bought it. It currently has 41,000 kms according to him but I dont think that is right. It only has a 5 digit odometer so that is what it reads. It does run really nice but it needs new rear struts and the rust needs to be bondoed up. The car what rust proofed except for behind the drivers side passenger door and behind the rear wheels. If someone could PM me if they end up with one. I would really appreciate it. The VIN is 1B3BD46D8JC286776. Thanks. I really appreciate it. This wo…

I mentioned in the "I can only imagine" thread that I'd love to get a home on the outskirts of town or in the country or in a small town. I've lived "city life" (well, between Chicago-type city life and small town life, anyway) all of my life, except for when I was in college ... and the short time I lived in Nashville TN in 1996. I know some think it nuts to live in a small town, but the following, which was given to me by a family friend years ago, gives some of the reasons why I'd like to live in a small town. Course, room for a big garage ... and the idea of not having many "city ordinances" to contend with ... are big factors as well ... he he.... Life in a small…

After a year with my Colorado I am ready to get something with more comfort and power. I have been looking at getting a LT Crew cab 4x4, I am not sure if the 6.0 is worth the extra money. I know people who say the 5.3 has more than enough but a few ppl who have the 6.0 and say they would never have the 5.3. I guess the question is: What will I miss more, the extra couple grand or the extra 52 HP?

My 62 year old uncle made a new purchase about a month ago I found out. We don't see them too much do I didn't hear about it until we were at their house for Christmas this evening. He picked up a 2007 Foose Mustang convertible. Roush supercharger and everything on it, so it scoots. I know we are all GM guys here for the most part, but you have to appreciate this ride. I really wish I would have had a camera with so that I could have snapped some pics. It is black on top, and cinnamon on the bottom (a mix of orange and maroon). Even though Olds has been dead for a few years now, I still feel like I see a ton of them on the roads. Today I was driving to work and had an Olds Alero in front of me and an Olds 88 behind me, with an Olds Cutlass a few cars ahead of me in the other lane. Did Olds really sell that many cars in its last few years? Or maybe it is just a regional thing; the former Buick-Olds-Cadillac dealer (now Bu/Cad/GMC) has a pretty large store and does a lot of business here.

I grew up with a dog - an Australian Shepherd. I'm still a "dog person." There are some cats where I live and all, except one, are skittish. This one grayish-brown tabby is a friendly little $h!. I thought he had an owner but I was told he does not, though people take care of him by feeding him. He comes right up to you and, if you sit down, it jumps into your lap and wants to be pet. He's a smart one, too...if you scratch his belly, he will grab you with both front paws but retracts the claws so he doesn't scratch you. My dog would do that...you'd tug on her tail, she'd take your hand into her mouth, but NOT bite down. Damn, domestic animals are…

Being in that twenty-something age range, I'm kind of a connoisseur of frozen pizza right now. It's cheap and many days after work I don't feel like making a big meal. When I was a kid, we used to always get Red Baron. I haven't had it in a few years, but I wasn't really a fan of it when I was younger because all the toppings would slide off and it usually had too much sauce. Brands I've had recently are Jack's, Tombstone, California Pizza Kitchen, and Totino's. I usually skip the DiGiorno type brands because if I'm going to spend 6 bucks on a frozen pizza, I'll just make my own or order one. My favorite is Jack's, especially the new Naturally Rising crust version…

I've been looking at Google maps' Street View the last hour or two... this is INSANE! You can go to Australia, Spain, etc and see streets and everything! If you're lost... go to Google Maps, then think of somewhere to go (type in Detroit or something). Look at the regular map, then on the left (on top of the zoom scroller) is a little man you can click and drag to the street. Then the world is yours and you can look at many, many places. It's nuts!

So after sitting at the shop for over a week, they finally looked over the Intrepid. For those of you who don't know, it's been parked in the driveway since late November, when on our way home we could hear the timing chains contacting things they shouldn't because they were so loose. So it rested quietly for the winter, besides when I went out to start it, until I could get it fixed. I got a call around 2 telling me to come down to the shop. What they showed me was that the oil was milky...which meant that the headgasket had failed. How long ago it failed I'm not sure, but odds are it's been long enough to do damage. This, coupled with the fact that it needs timing cha…

Hey Guys, I am new to this forum and throught I would try to contribute. If anyone is looking for reapir manuals, owner manuals or service manuals for virtually any type of car, there is a FREE ebook at the address below. I asked him could I download and share it, but he said he prefers to have people come to the website. The site itself isn't the best, Sometimes there are annoying ads and surveys. The ebook is only a couple of pages, but it gives a list of places online where you can find almost any service and repair manuals, even for very old models and trucks. I would highly recommend to download it and keep it on your computer. Website - http://ebook-files.info…

My girlfriend's 17" Dell flat-panel LCD monitor went out yesterday. Well, not 'out' but darkened almost completely. I think its the inverter or CCFL lamps and I've seen a couple of sites showing how to replace them with a soldering iron. My question is - is this something doable ourselves or what?

I'm sure most of you know the Autotainment is opening up this spring in Vegas. There could be no better place for Cheers and Gears to have a get together. Either way, I'm heading there this summer. Any one else? Info on Autotainment

I saw the best Mazda one. A middle age guy is sitting in his camry and he looks in the visor mirror and a 70 year old version of himself is in the mirror as a mazda 6 goes by. Then a middle age lady looks at her reflection on her accords window and an old version of herself is staring back....and it was about how your car should fit your age....The camry part was so funny and such a good dis to toyota! And the narrator said something to the effect of "dont drive boring old people cars! Buy a mazda6 and soon boring old sedans will be extinct" Now if only GM did something like that...

Right now im using a 89 camaro as a work car (I rented it for a case of beer and bring it back with a full tank of gas from my uncle) it goes back tomarrow though. I dont know if i can wait till fall when they come out. since i dont think i can strap metal and Oxy/Asen torches in my caprice. any sugestions? EDIT: 90's trucks i guess can work since they still want a pant leg for those 2000 trucks.

In regards to milage of the Civic in thier long term test. Here's what I sent, let's see if they post it in their next issue... "Was reading through the long term test of the '06 Honda Civic on page 172 of the Aug. '06 issue. The gas milage and current MT average of 24 mpg got me thinking of my fiance's 6 year old 183,000 mile Oldsmobile Alero. Now here's a car (the Civic) that made car of the year with all it's new tech yet get's 24 mpg average. Now I do understand that being a test vehicle that it is surely to be driven harder than normal and would get a bit better mpg otherwise, however I've been a bit hard on the Alero at times and the worse mpg we've ever seen from…

Makes me so angry. :rage: Had a look under the cars the other day. First and foremost, the Prizm. After only four years in NE, winter is taking its toll. The good news is that it looks like the rust is confined to those areas of the rockers and no where else important. Hopefully this year I'll be able to get that fixed (along with the rear quarter). My car only saw a few storms before going into storage. Under body looks pretty good despite living its 204,000 life up here. I would like to take care of what rust is forming though before it gets worse.

At this point I'm curious about buying a vehicle out-of-state and registering it in my state. If it were to happen, it would be a Pennsylvania vehicle coming to New Jersey. I'm wondering how different a PA state title is from a NJ state title? Specifically, would there be additional information I would need to secure in order to convert a PA title to a NJ title?

http://www.scuderigroup.com/ So I have to say this engine technology is cool and I wonder when we will see it in auto's. I know this engine technology has been mentioned in other threads. Thought I would start a thread dedicated to the Scuderi Engine. Cool updated demo's with new updat PDF files to read. What do you think? Will we see a Scuderi in the future at GM, Ford or some other Auto company?

1961 Pontiac Tempest Well, winter beater/daily driver. It's such a departure from the land barges I'm into, but I've been looking to get into something old for a daily driver and the little four-banger might be a fun alternative to having a modern gas sipper. Seems cheap for what it is if the description is accurate, too. Any thoughts?

Spring Carlisle is a good event and I'll be there to send the Maserati through the collector car auction (Friday at about 4:25 PM) and to hunt down some El Camino/Wagon parts. I will probably drop the car off on Thursday or maybe Wednesday, be there for the auction on Friday, and still be poking around on Saturday. Anyone else planning to hit this event?

I have only one complaint about the Enclave from the looks of it, the metallic trim on the dashboard is misaligned on both models here where it meets with the second half of the dash trim under the clock....otherwise these are stunning...I alos saw one in person for the first time tonight, a CX with ebony cloth interior...and the dash trim had the same problem in this model in person....hope it gets fixed soon. Well, it's time to roll up the sleeves, scout out the few places I've identified I would live and go look for a job (since I finished this night time degree just before the summer). Monday, I leave for Atlanta and Florida via plane. If I get the vibe and it's a go, I was thinking of taking my car down first (since that's the diciest) and then move myself down and job hunt (can't do that from Portland). Ok, so, what about the car...my Regal 3800 coupe some of you like to rag on? At 238,000 miles, I'm thinking of bringing her, or actually, having her cart my ass down to Atlanta. New stuff (within the last year to 6 months): all brakes, all tires, all struts, spark plug…

As some of you may know, I busted my oil pan about a year ago on Tampa's infamously decrepit Kennedy Blvd. After calling a local shop who has always given me good service, I was quoted a price of $1200 to replace the oil pan because it was necessary to remove the engine and much of the transaxle to do it. First I thought they were ridiculously high, but after browsing the Aurora forums, I found that was a shockingly reasonable price given the day-and-a-half's worth of labor needed to do the job. People there have been quoted anywhere from $1000-4000 to do it. Some shops wouldn't even attempt it. I set a new record for oil pan repair today by calling the local Cadillac de…

Had to get some attention grabbing title in there . "Chairman Mao Zedong, a fan of the red but not so much of the white or the blue, once said, “I got more hoes than the ozone.” Oh wait, it might have been Abraham Lincoln who said that. The quote we were Google-searching for from Chairman Mao was something about asymmetric warfare, about how a fighter must move amongst the people as a fish swims in the sea, which is way more poetic and stuff. And what we have here is a classic asymmetric fight; a battle in which one side is conventionally powerful and established and the other is a fish. All of this brings us inextricably to the showdown that neither Chevrol…
