I just realized something. 3 years ago my family's fleet was much less powerful but at the same time more fuel effiecent. As gas prices go up we've been buying cars with BIGGER and more POWERFUL engines. Here's the comparison. Me Then '01 3.4 alero 170 hp 200 ftlbs ----------- Now '05 4.6 mustang gt 300 hp 320 ftlbs Brother Then '02 2.2 Alero 140 hp 150 ftlbs ----------- Now '06 4.0 Mustang 210 hp 240 ftlbs Sister in law Then '96 2.2 accord 135 hp 140ftlbs ------------- Now '06 3.5 Vue 248hp 250 ftlbs Mom/Dad's car Then '00 3.5 Intrigue 215 HP 230 ftlbs -------- Now '07 3.6 Aura 252 hp 251…

What does everyone think of the job Rick Wagoner has done so far, and of the plans he has made known? Why do you feel this way? Who could be better? In the past few weeks of watching the news and reading the papers, GM has been mentioned a lot. None of it good. While all of the other automakers are in a financial mess, and no one can argue that Chrysler and Ford are in trouble as well, GM seems to be the worst off. I see Chrysler teaming up with Nissan (Titan/Ram, and Dodge/Versa) to get a better hold on the market. I also see that slow sellers (PT Convertible, Aspen Hybrid, etc) are getting cut. Over at ford there is a beautiful new Lincoln MKS, other products in the p…

I really want Gran Turismo 4, but they never release the GT series for the PC so scratch that. I was looking around for some PC racing game that have some semblence of realism like the GT series, and came across GTR Evolution and Need for Speed Pro Street. GTR looks like a decent game, but I'm more interested in muscle and production car racing and GTR is basically about high-end exotics and racers. Need for Speed Pro Street seems to have a great range of cars, but it seems to suffer in the realism department. I was watching a video on YouTube of a drag race, and people are hitting quarter miles in 5 seconds with old GTOs and 240SX's. I've only played Need for Spe…

So since there is not much auto news going on lets do something fun besides arguing why brand X is better than brand Y Since the economy is tanking and hard times are coming for everyone, lets do the dream car garage on the budget. Here are the rules: Choose five cars/trucks you will spend up to $20k. Which means each car/truck should not cost over $20k. Give up to 5 choices and say which one, out of the five you would choose now with your own money.

Bob Smith Automotive Group, aka "The GM Giant", in Easton, MD, has closed recently after GMAC filed a 14 million dollar judgment against the dealership for non-payment of loans. 100 employees out of work, the lot empty. Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC and Cadillac were sold there, and Oldsmobile before they were killed. The dealer principal believes his debt can be paid with the inventory taken from his lot, and the dealership is for sale. This is quite a blow to Easton's economy, a small town on Maryland's Eastern Shore. They were one of GM's largest volume dealers, and won "GMAC's Dealership of the Year" in 2001. I worked there for 10 years, 1993-2003. Things a…

My uncle was killed in a head-on collision a few hours ago with another vehicle. The other driver crossed the center line and stuck him on a two-lane highway north of Omaha. We have no details other than both died instantly. The last time I saw / spoke to him was at our annual family Christmas gathering, and I am now regretting not spending more time with him on that day. I'm basically in shock right now...the reality of it all hasn't hit yet.

We've seen witty/interesting license plates, such as these in IL: BMW AT 40, Pontiac Grand Am TUTH D K, Honda Civic coupe ...BUT ... have you noticed any plate ... ODDITIES? One morning on the way to work, I happened to glance in my rear-view mirror ... and thought I saw the word "S E X" on a license plate. As I waited to turn left off Route 58 onto Barrington Rd, the vehicle went past ... and I looked at the rear license plate ... and noticed that it was a generic IL plate that had "X35" as the first 3 characters. Wonder how THAT got past the IL sensors...?!! Cort | 35swm | "Mr Monte Carlo"."Mr Road Trip" | pig valve.pacemaker ...RT 66 = Sept 5-16, '09 WRMN…

Heh...but, bills must be paid. My eastern road trip, just like my western one last year, was an absolute blast! Life is short, so, like last year, I made the most of my time by meeting/catching up with people. I missed seeing "too many" people for various reasons, but those "misses" allowed me more time to spend with those I did see, more time to relax/sleep, & time to take scenic routes (i.e. I-90/SR 2 in Ohio en route to Michigan…

It's a song from the late 80s or early 90s IIRC, about a guy comparing his GF to a female praying mantis, referring to her predatory nature (FYI female praying mantises decapitate their mates during intercourse- yeah, you thought bleeding scratches on your back were bad! :o :P ). Here are some lyrics: "She bit off his head so he could not feel the pain. She wanted his body so much she ate his brain. But I survived, it was on TV She had 6 strong legs and it frightened me. She had insect eyes, but I could still see That the look she gave him you give to me. I feel like a praying mantis <something-something>..." Don't even know…

Go See a F'in Movie if You Want F'in Stunts Wednesday 13th October, 2010 by "black-knight" Advertising. This occupational field has gave us so many great, classic television ads, especially when it came to transportation, be it recreational or personal. Ads, for example, that made us think about . But so many great ads were left on the cutting room floor. That's what I'm sharing with you now, what has to be the best outtake from Ford's era of advertising in the early 1990s. Of all time. Ever. First you'll watch what the route Ford decided to take when they pussied out. Then you'll see the approach that would have been the clear winner. Honestly, I think Fo…

I've always liked listening to ghost stories ever since I was a little kid. I've never actually seen a ghost before or had any ghostly encounters, but they still intrigue me. It's said that late at night here at ISU in the Memorial Union, you can hear low moans in the Great Hall, which has names inscribed upon its marble walls of Iowans who died in WWI and WWII. I haven't actually noticed any noises, but sometimes when passing through there late at night you can feel a slight breeze even though the doors are closed. -------- Also, near the town of Mount Ayr in southern Iowa, there is a small cemetery in the middle of a grove of trees called Tedrow Cemetery. Most of …

Okay so for the past 4 years I've been driving 2/3 used cars of varying degrees at a time. Other than my Datsun the one commonality was they were all GM. From my 87 Fleetwood Brougham to my 83 Firebird, and from my 90 Suburban to my 86 Fleetwood Brougham.... lots and lots of buying and selling and I love it that way. Marcia had her STS for a daily driver but I wanted an all RWD fleet for myself. I did not need or want a modern car. I was happy having three cars that averaged out to over quarter of a century old. My Camaro was the toy muscle car, the Fleet- wood Brougham was my cushy daily driver/family car/baby limousine & the Datsun was for racking up …

From: GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves…

You really are... especially when I you find out what this thread is going to be about. It's something that's been argued about, questioned, and casually talked about it... many, many times. It has been close to the point where it would be solved, yet after 6 car-sick months... It is again time for me to talk about what to get. Yes, even after I argued that I didn't want advice on what to get when I didn't ask for it. Well, I'm not really asking about it... Yeah... have fun without me, bitches! Never again will I come back here! Or I will... IDK. I won't be around for much of this upcoming week. I'll be at my grandparent's camping out in their camper while trying to sell my 300EX over there. Hopefully I'll sell it, being along a major highway (Rt 322). That and it'll be listed in the trade book. It better sell... but I have a feeling my back luck will continue. Either way, camping out will be refreshing. I've wanting to do it lately... even if it is in the backyard of my grandparent's house. Plus, my grandpa has some work for me to do, and I'm money hungry... Alright, tonight I'll be going over and having my 300 haul…

My mom decided to put our house up for sale without telling me. I actually found out myself when I saw a picture of our house in the newspaper and on the internet. I'm mad!!!!!! We are selling because my parents are getting divorced which sucks. Our house is going for $529000 CAN. Here it is. Hopefully someone who will take care of it buys it. My House We also need to leave that bar there in the backyard. That part is sad because my mom built that herself and it took her about 2 months. She built it for my dad for his 50th 3 years ago.

I just signed up and noticed all of you who rant and rage concerning buickman and his ideas re: GM ? He believes in GM and wants them to return to greatness, attends the shareholder meetings - has a plan for GM, starts generalwatch etc... All I know about most of the others is that you sit and complain --- what have YOU done?? Maybe its easy to be a SIX time salesman of the year for Buick in the country and MAYBE NOT --- have you done anything that compares ? All I've seen in my very short time here is complaining regarding him - its easy to sit and type isn't it? I would like to be # 1 - you should listen and learn that atleast. I look forward to your comment…

YouTube FOTD: Kid Steals Shelby GT500, Hits a Deer by black-knight, C&G Editor/Reporter 19th, May, 2011 Words just simply cannot express the shear magnitude of stupidity and outright failure that surrounds the events surrounding the video of today's YouTube Find of the Day (or should that be Fail of the Day?). If you've already watched it, it will be very obvious to you that the following is true: The driver of the car does not own the car. The driver of the car is certainly under the age of 21. The driver of the car is joyriding with his idiotic friends. The driver of the car ran someone off of the road and stupidly fled the scene. The vi…

Ok, so this conversation started at work towards the end of the day and continued over dinner and via text message through the night. Some friends and I were talking about ways to make already existing movies better, or at least more interesting. Some of my suggestions: Chuck Norris as Jesus in The Passion of the Christ. He has a beard already. Speaking of The Passion, wouldn't it have been a lot more interesting if M Night Shyamalan had written and directed it? How about Mel Gibson directing Schindler's list or The Sound of Music? There were more but those were the most amusing ones I can remember.

Yesterday on my way back from a delivery traffic was slowing down, and moving into the other lane...it was to avoid a guy on a bicycle...but not just any bicycle. This guy was riding 8 feet or so in the air. I got a look at it as I was driving by. Apparently he welded 2 bike frames together, one on top of the other, and then mounted the seat on a 2-3 foot pipe. How he maintained his balance is beyond me. Today as I was delivering to a store in a strip mall, i noticed a gold mid 90's Cavalier parked awkwardly in the Bank of America parking lot. It had a flat and there was no one in it. I thought it was odd how it was parked, but figured the owner had gone to get a help f…

The goal of this game isn't to stump the next person, but instead to give the next person as many ways out as possible. Here's how we play. 1. Person posts a favorite movie quote and names the characters/actors. 2. The next person can quote another movie by any of the prior actor's co-actors, but not from the actors in the quote. For example Colonel Mustard: How many husbands have you had? Mrs. White: Mine or other women's? Colonel Mustard: Yours. Mrs. White: Five. Colonel Mustard: Five? Mrs. White: Yes, just the five. Husbands should be like Kleenex: soft, strong and disposable. Colonel Mustard: You lure men to …

Today I woke up early with all sorts of grand plans to get things accomplished. I took care of the dogs and walked to the Silverado to go get my morning coffee - that's when things turned bad. The Silverado had a very flat tire. So, I think OK I can deal with that and proceed to attempt to change the tire. Well, after getting all of the never-used jack and lug wrench stuff out from its compartment behind the seat, I take off the centercap and try the first lug. Stuck. I mean really stuck. I fight with it for a while with no effect, then actually stand on the lug wrench - no movement. I start to jump on the lug wrench and It finally started to move. I think "g…

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) - A Canadian judge ruled Thursday that a man accused of beheading and cannibalizing a fellow Greyhound bus passenger is not criminally responsible due to mental illness. The decision means Chinese immigrant Vince Li will be treated in a mental institution instead of going to prison. The family of victim Tim McLean dismissed the trial as a "rubber stamp" that allows Li to get away with murder. "A crime was still committed here, a murder still occurred," said Carol deDelley, McLean's mother. "There was nobody else on that bus holding a knife, slicing up my child." The judge said Li should not be held criminally accountable for stabbing McLea…

Tesla Model S: $50,000 EV sedan seats seven, 300-mile range, 0-60 in 5.5s It's been a long and difficult road, but Tesla Motors has made it to unveiling No. 2. After a lot of hype and delivery of 250 Tesla Roadsters, the company's Model S was unveiled today in Hawthorne, California. Tesla was incredibly careful about not leaking a lot of information before today – designing the Model S at a high-security rocket facility helped with that, but we still got a peek a few hours ago – and now that it's here, we love what we see. As for new information on the Tesla For The Rest Of Us (sort of), follow the jump for all the details and check out the gallery of high res photos…

I will have to pay all towing fees and such which doesn't bother me. So, I figure I'd throw out a nice, harmless topic. Have you cars got their springtime cleaning yet? I've found some good deals on wax, so as soon as it warms up, they should get a nice wash and wax. I've already started cleaning up the inside, but I'm debating about either getting a carpet cleaner, or maybe letting the a place clean it for me. It's been a rough winter, and the cars are starting to show it.

About 8 years ago, I had the distinct pleasure of watching someone sit on the fender of my '81 MC SC ... uninvited ... at a local S Elgin cruise night. I slowly made my way back to my car ... and just stood there ... watching him ... wondering how long he was planning to plant his rear end on my car's fender. I didn't wait too long; his buddy suddenly noticed that I was staring at them ... and motioned for him to move. He looked back at me, shrugged and walked away. I didn't say a word, though when I saw him leave in a spotless older (late 1960s early 1970s as I recall) Dodge, I wish I had. You really think I'd have survived unscathed had I sat on HIS car? Now, sur…

So...at work... Get a case of 1000 Watt lamps to fix some 40' tall pole lights in a parking lot...lamps are Chinese in origin. These are an extreme PITA to change, as there is a 138,000 volt high voltage set of lines that run right near the pole lights...you have to position the bucket truck just right to maintain OSHA safe clearance. And of course...no more than get them installed and they go bad. So I need to go back before I leave and replace lamps (bulbs) less than two hours old with new ones. Thankfully, I have American made lamps in the truck and they work perfectly. Then I go to the vendor to buy more American made lamps...and find that MFR. has now outsource…

Must be because I've been immersed in British cars all day. Pulled the drivetrain from one of the race cars, and spent some quality time exercising the Healey 3000 today. People really point and stare when you drive something like that around!

It's now about 9:50 here, and I am still doing laundry. I normally get up around 5 and get it done so I can enjoy the day... but this SPRING FORWARD time business has me out of sync. Is anyone else a bit screwed up by Daylight Savings Time?

Keeping it short and simple: What is it that attracts you to someone? Both body and mind. For me... Something about brown eyes grabs ahold of me and won't let go. I get all ga-ga for them. :D Overall, I prefer tall, dark, and hansom... minus the tall. I'd say something for women too but for some odd reason I seem to be attracted to them less and less each day. I don't understand it at all. I was sure I was bi. I'm just confused anymore... Anyways, what is it?

It's that time of year when the Salvation Army guys are standing on busy street corners or outside your local supermarket with their red bucket while jingling their little bell. I don't really mind giving when I have change. I've given a dollar here and there but does anybody feel pangs of guilt or selfishness when you simply walk past the guys or say you don't have any change (whether you do or not)? I dunno....even when I really don't have any change on me, I feel a liitle guilt.

I'm planning on going there in the fall of 06', experiances anyone? I hear the work load is crazy, but the education is second to none with the entertainment industry in their backyard... levi strauss, Billabong, The Gap and many other brand's are located in and around the greater San Fransisco area... L.A., OC, and Sandiego have a ton of respectable names as well... has anyone in here visited the campus... ? Just curious, take care. Some random sketches.

Coming into the office this AM, I thought about this. Now, today I am moving my office (a swap with a neighbor) to get away from this chick who talks way too much...to others, to me...and needs lots of attention. I need to get my work done. Other than this and a couple of others, everybody is amazingly pretty cool. There are few cliques to speak of. There are about 35 people in the office. I think it comes down from the partners in the firm...they are very casual and even do rotating kitchen duties. Some people here are insanely funny. At the last firm I worked, in 2003, the partners were absolute jerks...they thought they were better than middle management and th…

Follow up to the highjacked pickup thread.. so how many people here are musicians? I've been playing guitar since 9th grade just after i turned 16 so i've been playing for about 7 years (a vew lessons here and there but never fully schooled). I started to pick up drums about two years ago since two of my coworkers play drums (among other insruments/vocals). Well here's the majority of my stuff: Drums: Pearl Forum Accoustic: Alvarez Dreadnought - My dad bougth in 1979 and I got it as a graduation gift (even though I was playing it daily). I have since had some work done on to it. lower bridge for better action, straighted neck, new tunes, bone piece on the bridge to…

Well I shouldn't have to continue to sell my stuff through Craigslist to keep some dough in my back pocket: I start at Guitar Center next week. I tried for a few parts houses and there and that's who wound up calling me back. Fine by me. At least I know this is one job I can do without a shadow of a doubt.

These voracious posters have either slowed down in posting or aren't posting at all. 98 Regency lurks in the shadows now and then, signed it, but not posting much. So much ridiculous drama. Any word on these people?

Specifically, Buickman. Sorry if I'm too nosy or something, but can anyone tell me what's the beef with that? How did it evolve from a mugshot on the frontpage to public enemy #1 who constantly rags "die, Rick die"? There was a blackout period between me and C&G a while ago, so I'm curious. Please admins, remove my post if it's inappropriate.

Satan day was upon us yesterday... so what did it bring? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Grand Am's engine is back together. So... I bet you want to know about it? Well... I doubt it, but here goes... Does it run? Yes. Better? Eh... Wait, even the same as before? Eh... It's hard to say. It may run better, but the ticking has gotten even worse. Something went wrong. The fact that my dad ended up with two extra bolts isn't good. One thing that I do know is that neither of us could get the sparks plugs out. My dad isn't weak, by any means. They would not budge at all. I don't think that's a good thing, either. But back t…

Wife clipped the rear view mirror off the Taurus X this morning. Sliced it off by hitting the garage can out in the driveway waiting for the garbage man. Oh man, so don't need this. Any folks familiar with body work know what it's gonna cost me? (money I don't gots), over 500 I suppose. Heated mirrors with puddle lamp. At least the glass part is in tact. Holdin it all together with electrical tape right now.

Just read this and tell me if it makes you fall asleep. (I think I used the word "phone" waaaay too much here.) I'm debating if I should continue where I stopped with the rough draft so I can maybe send this in to Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. (Now, if I can pick a four leaf clover out of a lucky Irish field...)

What's a vehicle you like from a manufacturer you otherwise don't really care for? It can be old or new. My old one: Toyota FJ45 (After the the weak kneed drive train is swapped out for a Chevy one ton one of course: My new one: Iveco Massif. (Seriously, Fiat should import this as a Jeep, not whatever FWD Fiat clown car it wants to sully the Jeep name with this time.)

Here's one from about 5 years ago, a supposed image of the C6. And this one is from Kettering's web site from a few years back. Any Kettering guys seen this one before? Is it still used anywhere? A better question is whether or not Prof. Berry is still working on PrimeGen?

With all that has happened to me in the past two years... especially in the first 2 1/2 months of 2007... I need to find a way to relax. My mind spins faster than an NOSed S2000 engine peddle to the metal. I find it very difficult to clear my mind. I'm starting to make mistakes... very simple mistakes... often. The constant mental distraction is.... well... distracting. Any advice you guys might have could be helpful.

For all the coolness of a car that goes 180 mph, that has about as much relevance to the average driver in this country as a 180-foot yacht. Accelerating from a start, on the other hand, is sort of legal in every state in the U.S., barring law-enforcement officers with an inflated sense of purpose (don't ask how we know about "Unsafe Start" statutes). Below are the 10 quickest vehicles available with a base price between $25K and $30K, ranked in order of 0-to-60-mph time. Ties were settled first by quarter-mile time, then by which was quicker to the highest speed both cars achieved (usually 120 or 130 mph), in that order. Most cars at this price point offer basic luxury …

Bleh, I never set up Word when I got this computer a few years ago. I rarely use it, but yesterday I got an email from my dad about our big family reunion this weekend, and there's a Word attachment with the itinerary I'm supposed to print out. When I try to print it, it says I need to set it up and I need to furnish my "product key", a 25 digit number, which was supposed to be written on the CD case, I guess, or the book... somewhere. That stuff is all gone, I don't know of a way to find that product key now. Can anyone help me set up Word so I can print this document? Many thanks.
