Used GM cars a great deal. Especially those that are just a year old. They don't depreciate much from the 2nd year to the 4th year. GM could possibly move alot of metal in their pre-owned program with a good lease program. Using a sample from my local dealer here is what I see; 2007 Impala LT 6500 miles for $14,999 (a decent deal for a used Impala) Using KBB and assuming 12,000 miles per year, the same car is worth $8,500 as a trade in (good cond) This is around $180 per month in depreciation. A subvented lease could bring it to $225 per month with no money down. 2007 Cobalt LS 23,400 miles for $9,995 miles (standard going price for such a vehicle) …

Well, I did. I must say, I was/am pissed, dissapointed, extremely shocked (yet slightly expected based off of how people vote, but never actally expected it.) For those of you who do watch American Idol and missed the show: Melinda Doolittle was dismissed. For those who don't: Melinda Doolittle is a 29-year-old (previous) backup singer. She has gone throughout the entire competition with only one 'not-so-hot' comment. Other than that, she was unbelievable! I honestly am really hating Blake, considering that he was the reason Melinda left, and here is the reason: Blake is from Seattle, and beatboxes. His town is obviously well-know and has a large population. So th…

I posted back in March about a possible surgery to repair an incisional hernia (above my belly button) that developed from my 2003 open heart surgery and made itself known in September 2008 at the NMCOA Mini Meet in Stillman Valley IL and then even more so in mid-February 2009. In March, I had decided to NOT get it repaired, since it was, according to the surgeon, small. However ... as some of you know ... that hernia had started to act up a bit more regularly the last few months (once, while I was visiting friends in Freeport IL in April) ... and with "car" and "road trip" season here, I decided enough was enough. So, Thursday, May 28, 2009, the incisional hernia was…

Supporting Local Music
by Guest Josh- 7 replies

I'm a huge fan of local music and supporting it. Perhaps it's because I come from MoTown, The Motor City, etc and this state (metro-Detroit really) is so rich with hot music and promising bands that I can't help but appreciate the smaller (for now) guys. Obviously everybody knows how I feel about JoCaine & 75 North whom I feel will be mega stars before the end of' 06 if not before the end of summer '06. They've had their music featured on CSI and in several movies. Jocaine & 75 North But, there's also a band the "Paper Street Saints." These guys rip it too. They have a nice modern sound ala Nickleback especially with their latest song "A Fool TO Lie" which is c…

For all the coolness of a car that goes 180 mph, that has about as much relevance to the average driver in this country as a 180-foot yacht. Accelerating from a start, on the other hand, is sort of legal in every state in the U.S., barring law-enforcement officers with an inflated sense of purpose (don't ask how we know about "Unsafe Start" statutes). Below are the 10 quickest vehicles available with a base price between $25K and $30K, ranked in order of 0-to-60-mph time. Ties were settled first by quarter-mile time, then by which was quicker to the highest speed both cars achieved (usually 120 or 130 mph), in that order. Most cars at this price point offer basic luxury …

I was watching this on the news and they mentioned a few towns where the gang had been active in drowning college students: LaCrosse, WI Dubuque, IA St. Cloud, MN Minneapolis, MN New York City Metro Detroit, MI Tampa, FL Canton, NY I didn't catch the rest... It's really disturbing to say the least. The RCMP and City Police in Edmonton and Calgary are going over their case files, it may be that there were a few done here in Calgary *cringes*. At the very least, I know I'm safe from these thugs. I'm a teetotaler for life and would never fit the profile of someone they'd go after, but still... Driving on my way home this afternoon from work I had the UNpleasure of seeing a pretty bad accident. Police and rescue personnel had not responded yet, however; being a helper on a few friends Volunteer Fire Depts, I responded as best I could. Apparently, a guy driving a relatively new Civic wasn't paying a large amount of attention to what he was doing, changed lanes without looking, ran sidelong into a Kenworth, got turned in front of it, Kenworth driver slammed onto his brakes, Toyota Sequoia driver slammed into the back of the Kenworth's trailer (happened to be hauling logs), then another Honda, this one an Accord ran into the back of the Toyota....after that thing…

Struggling computer company to shed 10 percent of its workforce. DALLAS - Dell Inc. said Thursday that earnings fell slightly in preliminary first-quarter results, and the computer maker planned to lay off more than 8,000 employees over the next year as part of an ongoing restructuring. Dell said it earned $759 million, or 34 cents per share, in the three months ended May 4. That compared with $762 million, or 33 cents per share, in the year-ago period. First-quarter sales rose nearly 1 percent from the year ago period to $14.6 billion. Analysts, on average, expected earnings of 26 cents per share on sales $13.95 billion, according to a poll by Thomson Financial. Del…

Hi there. It has been some time since I last posted in this section of the forum. Sure I have been writing the odd review here and there, but other than that, I have been a bit of a ghost. Popping in and our in case of some incident that needs to be addressed. So what has been going on? Aside from 2020 being well a 'landfill fire' (and that's me being family friendly), I've been quite busy with work. Since mid-April, I have been on three different projects which have taken up a lot of my time and mental energy. Add this on top of working from home since March with no real outside interaction, COVID-19, and other personal issues, and you get a recipe of feeling very d…

This could very well be something I'll start doing monthly...or even bi-monthly. You see, I have over a decade of old "Car & Driver" magazines stored in a Rubbermaid bin in my closet, and I need to put them to good use. Here's the idea I had: every month, pull one random issue out of mothballs and scan something random from the issue I select. It could be an ad, it could be an article. Every page is fair game. To start us off, I decided to show off a bunch of random junk. Since this is the first -- or last, I'm not sure -- it's deserving of a light boom. Science has discovered the heaviest element yet known to man. The new element is Governmentium (Gv). It has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lefton-like particles called peons. Since Governmentium has no electrons or protons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction normally taking less than a second to take from four days to four years to complete. Gove…

Now, I'm waiting (again) for "up to 8 hours" for it to show up in a search. I'd just like to know if you see it when you click the link. I'll check the search (again) later.

So, when you're on the road, and there's a bump that goes all the way across, so it catches both front wheels at once, and then there's a 3-foot dark circle on the road just ahead of it from oil being flicked off from under vehicles because of the bump.

Have any of you done an E85 conversion? If so, was there any issues? Any after market group that is better than another? Costs? The proposed car; 1995 Caprice 9C1 (LT1 engine). I know there will be alot of people apposed to it and I do want to know why. Please note it's not about the cost, but rather the reduction of oil use. My wife really wants the car and the only way I can justify it is by not using SO much gasoline (environment and national deficit).

My son Joel has a really cool friend Paul who is 16 and learning how to drive. Paul's dad has a nice older Cadillac (similar to Sixty-Eights bannana boat). Paul was pulling into his parent's attached garage, being coached by his father. His father said "now hit the brakes gently." Instead of hitting the brakes Paul hit the gas by mistake. While people may debate the fuel economy and such of old caddies, one thing is for sure...they are just the cat's ass when it comes to destroying drywall and 2x4 studs. The car lurched forward, through the garage wall and into the living room. About six grand worth of damage to the house and a similar amount to the car. While it …

I'm home and have the time right now, so I thought I'd finally share this since it's still effecting me. On my way home from Detroit last Thursday after my English Placement Exam, I got to Chelsea on I-94 when my car died. Now, it wouldn't be quite so bad if this was the first time that it had happened, but it was about the fifth time that it's done it to me, and what pissed me off above everything else is that what the dealership thought the problem was turned out not the be the problem at all. I maintain that it's the fuel pump. On a long drive (I got to Detroit fine) it just eventually fizzles out on the Interstate. It gives a hiccup, and then the car just starts…

One fast–growing American industry has become a conspicuous beneficiary of the recession: for–profit colleges and trade schools. At institutions that train students for careers in areas like health care, computers and food service, enrollments are soaring as people anxious about weak job prospects borrow aggressively to pay tuition that can exceed $30,000 a year. But the profits have come at substantial taxpayer expense while often delivering dubious benefits to students, according to academics and advocates for greater oversight of financial aid. Critics say many schools exaggerate the value of their degree programs, selling young people on dreams of middle–class wages…

It had to be a late model last-gen car because it had the polished, non-5 spoke rims on it. It really hit home for me, seeing this car, that Pontiac should have offered a six cylinder alternative available on the GTO body shell, called it a LeMans or Tempest, and watched the sales come in much better than the $32k V8 Goat. I firmly believe that a six cylinder model would have ensured the GTO's success, and there would have been no question there'd be a modern gen II car.

My older 4 MCs made their long-awaited 2007 debut today, June 16. This is the LATEST in the year I've "waited" to get them started. Too bad I'll be waiting a bit longer to drive them. On the positive side, all 4 of them started virtually perfectly. After checking the oil, the battery, tire pressures, etc., they all started just fine. The '76, however, needed a bit of a boost for the battery; actually, I think it will need a new battery sooner rather than later. And, with the '72, I tried to start the car ... before I had hooked up the battery. For a while, we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start. Then, the guy who owns the garage happened to look at the batte…

I was so happy to see this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/eo/20060624/en_tv_...HNlYwN5bmNhdA-- Futurama will be back (with Billy West, John Dimaggio and Katey Segal) on Cartoon Network in 2008. While the Simpsons have really lost their bite, Futurama was just hitting its stride when FOX assured that it would fail by pre-empting with crappy football, changing dates and times to a point where fans had no idea if it was going to be on or not. All right! It's Saturday night, I have no date, a two liter bottle of Shasta and my all-Rush mix tape, let's rock!

Let's play a game of car scrabble connecting model names and rebuilds. Rules: 1. You can connect cars by model name to model name of a different brand, model name to trim name of a different brand, model to model of the same brand but different generations, or from model to model via rebadge. You show the connections with N> for name, Y> for year, or R> for rebadge. 2. You can connect 2 cars by model name as long as they do not share a brand name and get 2 points .(Example: Edsel Citation N> Chevy Citation). You can connect names that have slightly different spelling as long as the name is pronounced the same, major changes in name structure…

Today on my way back from school I saw a 2007 Acura RDX proto. It had black tape over the rear lights and badges but it was silver. It looked pretty good but I didnt see too much of the front. I sucks how when you see something like that and dont have a camera on you. That happened when I saw a red '66 Cadillac Limo in my town. I guess the RDX was testing because we are only about half an hour from the Alliston Honda Plant.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=119336 RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — Get ready to burn some lavender. In one of the stranger tech stories of the year, Kumho Tire USA says it has developed the world's first scented tire. The tire is targeted at female buyers who drive such vehicles as the Chrysler Sebring, Ford Taurus, Honda Accord, Subaru Outback and Toyota Camry, the company said. The punsters at Kumho say the aromatic tire is the "fruition" of more than a year's worth of research and development to deliver "an alluring aroma tire that replaces the normal 'black rubber' smell with heat-resistant oils in the scent of lavender, and in later versions, n…

My wife collects Coke items, and our whole kitchen is done up in a Coca-Cola theme. She wants to do our basement in a 50's style with a Coke theme when we finish it. Odd thing is, she loves collecting Coke stuff but will only drink Pepsi. What does your significant other do that is a little bit odd or funny? Chris

How reliable is an Oldsmobile 88 Royale from 1994? I believe it has the 3.8L. The car has 170,000kms and it is in excellent condition. There is not much rust or any rust at all. My grandparents' friend from church is selling it for about $2000 or so. Yes they are over 60 lol.

I guess now would be the perfect time to admit that I am only a 15 yr. old boy and the breeze and saturn are my parent's cars, but I have a great deal of care for them.... Anyway, my dad was driving home from work(its raining) and he went to turn off of sunrise highway at our exit and some guy in a little toyota ramed the breeze in the rear passenger side door....the whole door is caved in(luckily no interior damage or window damage) but the panit is all scraped up and I cant even call it a dent it is so big...Thank god for insurance! The police said that the accident was the other guys fault. *pics coming soon*

Ugh...my Y key on my laptop just broke off, so now everytime I want to press it, I have to fumble around for the little rubber nob that it originally stuck to. Pain in the ass. I'm really tempted to take a tiny dab of superglue and put it back on myself, but since this is a lease laptop, I should probably just do it the correct way and have it taken in to get fixed. You'd be amazed how often you use the letter 'y' and don't even realize it. Oh well, at least another vowel like 'a' or 'e' didn't break off, otherwise I'd be even more frustrated. Ironically, the y key broke off when I typed the word "Camry" in my last post. Damn you, Dell. I've only had this for a …

Interesting article in car and driver... http://blog.caranddriver.com/why-honda-is-in-even-more-trouble-than-you-think-deep-thoughts/ To many observers, Honda appears to be going through the corporate equivalent of a mid-life crisis. Supply problems from the effects of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami and flooding in Thailand, along with less-than-complimentary write-ups on the new Civic by Car and Driver, Consumer Reports, and others, are bearing the brunt of the blame for the slump in calendar-year 2011 sales. Further issues: Acura’s inability to attain tier-one luxury-car consideration or status among consumers, Honda’s attempt to build a pickup truck, and the fir…

Heading home after going to a wake for my friend's grandfather, I'm in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway, slowing down for a red light. Noone's in front of me, and cars are on either side of me. Just as I'm about to pass a white GMC cable truck that's on my right, said cable truck juts out into my lane. I can't do anything but jam on the brake pedal and hope for the best. I nail him in the tire, and he takes out my front bumper, scrapes my fender and headlight, and knocks out assorted plastic parts that I can't identify right now because I'm so pissed. The driver is very clearly out of it, either via alcohol or pot or something. The cop gets there and doesn't pay any mi…

You guys are gonna love this one. The most intense, terrifying, visually spectacular, thrilling, amusement ride of a movie. Peter Jackson is the new Steven Spielberg. This is the movie War of the Worlds should have been. Most. Incredible. Film-going. Experience. Ever. Most. Ever. Is that enough hype? Good, cause you still won't believe how good it is.

I entered the web 2.0 marketing contest and received notification that I have been chosen to receive passes for Nov 4-5. Too bad that I probably won't have the $$$ to fly out, pay for a bed and pay for 3 squares a day. I'd love to go, but we'll see. The GF is hellbent on making me take the $$$ and go.

Okay, yesteraday after giving the Dakota a good exterior cleaning at the car wash, I notice some pretty nasty areas on the roof and hood of the truck. Here. Take a look for yourself. The hood: The roof: Another part of the roof: Okay, yeah, I guess it could be much worse, but this still requires new paint on the roof and hood. I mean, just look at the roof. It's stripped down to the primer in one spot. I guess what I need to ask is, what will it cost to get the roof and hood repainted?

This is the car I found for my dad. I am really wanting to get this car as a present for Father's day/his birthday. I have the money but it just depends if he wants it. We will have to go get it and tow it back. It is only $1100 and needs emergency brake cables to be certified. The only other thing needed is bodywork to be done. There is some rust. The vinyl top and interiors are mint and all the chrome is as well. Plus it is a hardtop coupe. Here it is 1976 Dodge Royal Monaco hardtop. It would make a good restoration.

I thought an interesting topic would be come up with the best car throughout history from the primary GM divisions, Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, GMC, Oldsmobile. Saturn was pretty short lived, so not too many cars to choose from there. It should either be a game changer, or car way ahead of its time or maybe just best best car that brand ever made or that you want want to see return. I'll start with my nominations. Buick: 1987 GNX It is fast by today's standards, for 1987 it was insane, and menacing looking in black. Chevrolet: 1969 Camaro and 1963 split window Corvette Stingray. Cadillac: 1953 Eldorado GMC: 1937 to current Suburban/Yukon XL Since th…
