Interesting article in car and driver... http://blog.caranddriver.com/why-honda-is-in-even-more-trouble-than-you-think-deep-thoughts/ To many observers, Honda appears to be going through the corporate equivalent of a mid-life crisis. Supply problems from the effects of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami and flooding in Thailand, along with less-than-complimentary write-ups on the new Civic by Car and Driver, Consumer Reports, and others, are bearing the brunt of the blame for the slump in calendar-year 2011 sales. Further issues: Acura’s inability to attain tier-one luxury-car consideration or status among consumers, Honda’s attempt to build a pickup truck, and the fir…

Science has discovered the heaviest element yet known to man. The new element is Governmentium (Gv). It has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lefton-like particles called peons. Since Governmentium has no electrons or protons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction normally taking less than a second to take from four days to four years to complete. Gove…

I just got done doing a mileage conversion for the Opel Zafira. The one sold in Mexico gets approx 32 mpg. The others sold throughout the world with the 1.8 4-cyl get 37 to 38 mpg with 140 hp on tap. The diesel versions get over 45 mpg! We would save over $170 per month in gas by owing a Zafira over the Suburban. Yeah, it's not as big, but with the money saved I could pay for the roof carrier, and get a decent hotel when we travel. Heck, a trip to LA in a Zafira compared to our Suburban would save us over $300!! Even with the bigger engine. GM I WANT A ZAFIRA NOW. Please get your act together and bring us the good stuff. Anyone know how hard it is to get a veh…

My wife collects Coke items, and our whole kitchen is done up in a Coca-Cola theme. She wants to do our basement in a 50's style with a Coke theme when we finish it. Odd thing is, she loves collecting Coke stuff but will only drink Pepsi. What does your significant other do that is a little bit odd or funny? Chris

My son Joel has a really cool friend Paul who is 16 and learning how to drive. Paul's dad has a nice older Cadillac (similar to Sixty-Eights bannana boat). Paul was pulling into his parent's attached garage, being coached by his father. His father said "now hit the brakes gently." Instead of hitting the brakes Paul hit the gas by mistake. While people may debate the fuel economy and such of old caddies, one thing is for sure...they are just the cat's ass when it comes to destroying drywall and 2x4 studs. The car lurched forward, through the garage wall and into the living room. About six grand worth of damage to the house and a similar amount to the car. While it …

Detroit – In a remarkable, trendsetting move, the General Motors board unanimously voted in favour of re-appointing Richard 'Rick' Wagoner as CEO of the automotive corporation. "We're very pleased to have Rick back on board, despite his circumstances of having been dead for over two decades. The fact that he took the time to travel back from the future is testament to the man's devotion to our company" Wagoner, who died in the year 2035, was reanimated in 2054 through a combination of nano-technology and voodoo by the United States of Canada. The USC's hopes are that by sending Zombie Wagoner back to the past, he'll use his expertise to recoup bailout funds in a quick…

OK, you are all probably going to think my whole family is crazy including me but...here's my situation. I got a fullride scholarship to my fallback school which as you can see is the University of Wyoming. In order to get me to accept it, my parents bought me a christmas gift certificate from my local GM dealer for 15,000 dollars, and said they could make payments on top of that. The catch is I HAVE to go to UW. Where as if I settle for a 2004 Alero Coupe, they will not pressure me to go to UW because the can get a LOT better deal on it... I only have until friday to use the certificate though...if I don't Emil refunds their money, and I get NO new car...every…

How Immigration Crackdowns Backfire Reason Arizona legislators are fed up with being terrorized by illegal immigrants, and they have passed a law to get tough. Under the measure, passed this week and sent to the governor, police would have to stop and question anyone they suspect of being in this country without legal authorization. The bill passed after the fatal shooting of Robert Krentz, a 58-year-old rancher whose killer apparently entered illegally from Mexico. Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu says police are also under siege: "We've had numerous officers that have been killed by illegal immigrants in Arizona." Even Sen. John McCain, once a supporter of immigratio…

I thought an interesting topic would be come up with the best car throughout history from the primary GM divisions, Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, GMC, Oldsmobile. Saturn was pretty short lived, so not too many cars to choose from there. It should either be a game changer, or car way ahead of its time or maybe just best best car that brand ever made or that you want want to see return. I'll start with my nominations. Buick: 1987 GNX It is fast by today's standards, for 1987 it was insane, and menacing looking in black. Chevrolet: 1969 Camaro and 1963 split window Corvette Stingray. Cadillac: 1953 Eldorado GMC: 1937 to current Suburban/Yukon XL Since th…

Okay, yesteraday after giving the Dakota a good exterior cleaning at the car wash, I notice some pretty nasty areas on the roof and hood of the truck. Here. Take a look for yourself. The hood: The roof: Another part of the roof: Okay, yeah, I guess it could be much worse, but this still requires new paint on the roof and hood. I mean, just look at the roof. It's stripped down to the primer in one spot. I guess what I need to ask is, what will it cost to get the roof and hood repainted?

Well im basically doing a project and this basically sums up what I have to do: "Choose someone you know that has lived through an interesting period in American history before 1970 and interview him/her. Possible topics for the interview could be your interviewee's experiences in the great depression, ww2, the 1950s, civil rights movement, the 1960's, or the Vietnam War. Create a list of at least 8 questions to ask them. Your project will consist of the questions you have created and your written version of your interviewee's responses to each question. Remember you will need to have follow-up questions ready to encourage your subject to elaborate on im…

So we're all moved into the new server, but part of the process didn't fully work and I need your help to track some things down. The URLs for a number of pictures didn't update to their new locations. Your job, when you spot one of these, is to use the Report Post/Article/Gallery button so I can fix it. If we get a lot of these, I'll think up of some prize for the person with the most reports. It can be missing emojis, missing pictures in threads, or missing pictures in an article. The fix for most of these is super simple, but I need to crowdsource finding them. I'm leaving the 2025 Acura MDX and 2025 Infiniti QX80 articles up as an example to look at. Bu…

US OKs $150 million to help Yemen fight terrorism WASHINGTON – The Pentagon has approved $150 million in military assistance to Yemen, the country where al-Qaida linked militants planned the failed Christmas Day airliner attack over Detroit, The Associated Press has learned. Administration officials said the money was approved Friday by Defense Secretary Robert Gates and is more than double the amount of U.S. aid to Yemen last year. It will pay for military equipment and training for Yemeni forces. U.S. officials worry that Yemen is becoming the next significant terrorist staging ground, amid ongoing signs that lower-level al-Qaida operatives have been moving into the …

But ... each time a new "blemish" pops up ... a little part of me cringes.... Thursday of this week, a new "blemish" for the '87 MC LS "appeared". Somewhere between home and work, the passenger-side front wheel "hubcap" came off ... the one seen in this pic: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/newpics/DSC07667r8_jpg.html In a way, I feel lucky that I managed to go from October until May without losing any wheel covers, given the rough roads I travel between Elgin and Schaumburg. I'm a huge fan of local music and supporting it. Perhaps it's because I come from MoTown, The Motor City, etc and this state (metro-Detroit really) is so rich with hot music and promising bands that I can't help but appreciate the smaller (for now) guys. Obviously everybody knows how I feel about JoCaine & 75 North whom I feel will be mega stars before the end of' 06 if not before the end of summer '06. They've had their music featured on CSI and in several movies. Jocaine & 75 North But, there's also a band the "Paper Street Saints." These guys rip it too. Didn't want to steal GMPartsGirl's thread so I figured I would start a new thread to discuss this. My better half wants me to get a motorcycle to drive back and forth to work on decent days. Now, understand that I have never ridden a motorcycle in my life and am now 40. Tammy's reasoning is that it will save on gas money. This is true but it would take a while to save enough to pay off the bike in the first place. I would be looking at a used motorcycle, one without too much power, since I am a novice. My brother (who does ride) suggests that I limit it to about 500cc and buy something that I wouldn't be too upset if I laid it down. I have seen a couple that would…

My older 4 MCs made their long-awaited 2007 debut today, June 16. This is the LATEST in the year I've "waited" to get them started. Too bad I'll be waiting a bit longer to drive them. On the positive side, all 4 of them started virtually perfectly. After checking the oil, the battery, tire pressures, etc., they all started just fine. The '76, however, needed a bit of a boost for the battery; actually, I think it will need a new battery sooner rather than later. And, with the '72, I tried to start the car ... before I had hooked up the battery. For a while, we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start. Then, the guy who owns the garage happened to look at the batte…

These antique cars are true works of art .. Visitors to Rockefeller Center recently were intrigued, bemused or simply mystified by what looked like a bunch of old cars painted silver. But the cars constituted a major work by internationally acclaimed artist Nam June Paik called "32 cars for the 20th century: play Mozart's Requiem quietly." Actually, there were only 16 of the 32 cars in Paik's work on display at Rockefeller Center. They appeared with another major Paik work, "Transmission," an outdoor laser presentation. Organized by Public Art Fund on behalf of RCPI Landmark Properties and Tishman Speyer Properties, owners of Rockefeller Center, the exhibition expose…

So anyways I got the job detailing cars and started last Friday. It was mostly a learning experience, but basically my job conists of inspecting the new cars that just came off the car hauler to make sure they don't have any damage, finding new cars on the lot that need to be washed and washing them, waxing/cleaning the inside of people's cars who have made appointments for detailing jobs, and checking the "spindle" to see if any salespeople have requests for cars to be washed if they have customers coming to look at a certian vehicle. I also dust off the cars in the showroom every morning. It's pretty easy and the time goes by a lot faster than I thought it would, and…

My housemate saw an ad for a 2002 Grand Prix GT, and we might be going to check it out later this week. The price seems a bit cheap though, $6995. http://toronto.craigslist.org/car/211740568.html Anything in particular to look out for?

Last week in a tight Rehoboth Beach parking lot mid-day, I THINK I may have hit the spare tire tread on the back of a CR-V with the very bottom corner of my Av's rear bumper...didn't notice a thing until someone pointed out a scuff & scratch later. Friend in car said close, but didn't think I was that close...or someone just hit me. Hard to tell from how it actually looked & where I was. Rag, quick detail spray, scratch remover, touch up paint for 2 chips, gone. Still weird being under the bumper edge mostly...I think someone hit me in the lot. Rear camera alert...love it. Then today...my mother out driving back from X-rays in her Camaro "ran off the road a littl…

Have any of you done an E85 conversion? If so, was there any issues? Any after market group that is better than another? Costs? The proposed car; 1995 Caprice 9C1 (LT1 engine). I know there will be alot of people apposed to it and I do want to know why. Please note it's not about the cost, but rather the reduction of oil use. My wife really wants the car and the only way I can justify it is by not using SO much gasoline (environment and national deficit).

Ugh...my Y key on my laptop just broke off, so now everytime I want to press it, I have to fumble around for the little rubber nob that it originally stuck to. Pain in the ass. I'm really tempted to take a tiny dab of superglue and put it back on myself, but since this is a lease laptop, I should probably just do it the correct way and have it taken in to get fixed. You'd be amazed how often you use the letter 'y' and don't even realize it. Oh well, at least another vowel like 'a' or 'e' didn't break off, otherwise I'd be even more frustrated. Ironically, the y key broke off when I typed the word "Camry" in my last post. Damn you, Dell. I've only had this for a …

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=119336 RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — Get ready to burn some lavender. In one of the stranger tech stories of the year, Kumho Tire USA says it has developed the world's first scented tire. The tire is targeted at female buyers who drive such vehicles as the Chrysler Sebring, Ford Taurus, Honda Accord, Subaru Outback and Toyota Camry, the company said. The punsters at Kumho say the aromatic tire is the "fruition" of more than a year's worth of research and development to deliver "an alluring aroma tire that replaces the normal 'black rubber' smell with heat-resistant oils in the scent of lavender, and in later versions, n…

Struggling computer company to shed 10 percent of its workforce. DALLAS - Dell Inc. said Thursday that earnings fell slightly in preliminary first-quarter results, and the computer maker planned to lay off more than 8,000 employees over the next year as part of an ongoing restructuring. Dell said it earned $759 million, or 34 cents per share, in the three months ended May 4. That compared with $762 million, or 33 cents per share, in the year-ago period. First-quarter sales rose nearly 1 percent from the year ago period to $14.6 billion. Analysts, on average, expected earnings of 26 cents per share on sales $13.95 billion, according to a poll by Thomson Financial. Del…
