Mine deals with import bias...I want to make something along the line of "Rethink American" It has to be able to push that idea without making it look like I'm trying to sell a car...any ideas? Been meaning to ask this question for a while- wondering if anybody could provide me with some insight. With the real estate market in the crapper and some pretty cherry foreclosure deals to be had, my folks have finally started seriously thinking about buying a place in greater Phoenix. This would be basically a vacation home sort of aim (Condo + Garage most likely) of course there are other things to deal with in setting something like that up. My dad wanted me to see if I could find out what vehicle registration laws are like in Arizona which would be determinant on whether we bring a vehicle down or buy one there to put in the garage. Obvious preference would be…

  7. Just to clarify for the one or two who did not get it, the remark about insta-banning PINGAS meme posters for being "trolls" was a joke, an example of dry humor. I was pretty sure that anyone remotely paying attention since, oh, about 2002 would have figured out that I have a very dry sense of humor, but apparently not. Is PINGAS no longer funny? Oh, absolutely. It is played out beyond belief, as I and numerous other posters have pointed out. BUT--insta-banning PINGAS offenders was just NOT a serious suggestion. He told me that it was a 1964 Buick 225. The body was in great shape, just needed some paint and needed to have a little surface rust knocked off. The interior was in good shape, actually, great shape. The engine even ran without any problems. The only problem, needed to have the brake system completely replumbed. I asked him how much. My answer: $300.00. I dunno about you guys, but that sounds like a steal for a classic Duece-and spare change. Just curious though, which engine is it? …

The mystery of the missing centenarians has captured the attention of this rapidly graying nation with reports of scamming relatives and overworked social workers and sad tales of old people, isolated and forgotten, simply slipping out of touch with society. The story unfolded in late July when police discovered that Sogen Kato, who would have been 111 and was thought to be T…

After talking to a few people and having them take a look it, we thought it might be the U joint. It looked worn, but after replacing that the sound was still coming from somewhere else. It sounded like it was coming from the rear end. We took a look in the rear end, and this is what we found laying on the bottom.... We decided that this wasn't something that could be do…

My Senior Studio project this semester is to design a car that takes form an function to a new level in a midsize sedan shape that isn't boring. Kinda vague I know, but to elaborate a bit, I was told by the instructor I could do this, so long as I made it "interesting" to the non-car artsy staff who will be judging the project. So my concept is to use famous figures of the past and create innovations that they would find useful in a car if they existed, but more importantly would be useful today. Anyway, the midterm review is coming up, and though I have a lot done, I still need a company name and a car name. It's a 4-door rear-drive hatch (think Mazda6 hatch), RWD with…

The stereo knob, which just arrived today, is from a 2013 Sonic. This was kind of a PITA because apparently GM doesn't sell just the knobs so I had to buy the whole stereo. Bright side is that this is the brick stereo out of the super stripper fleet model, so they're dirt cheap used. She gets a little more classy every day. <3

I am PCS and I approve this message! A few weeks ago when I was home in Delaware, I filled out my primary absentee ballot. The primary is tomorrow for both Democrats and Republicans for Governor, Lt. Governor, various State House and Senate races and County Council positions. I always vote, and I think it's important to do so, there have been a few races in Delaware that has been decided by one vote. I've been asked many times if I was a Republican on this forum or what my political leanings are, I guess many of you by now think you know how I vote because of my preference for Obama for President, don't be so sure. I vote the best person in my view for the job, and…

...and it's not these. Rather, a 2+2 from '85 and a more base-model-looking '90 mock-up. Well, 2+2=Ugly in the case of the first one, but the second one has a cool concept-like appearance for the time. I like it better than the original 2M4 with the short buttress.

From: GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves…

I have an interesting one-afternoon mini-project that I want to tackle. I have the GM Accessories premium floor mats for my Cobalt, and while they're great at catching dirt, very durable, and embarrasingly easy to clean, I have one problem with them: The tan accents on them are rather ugly and don't go well with my car's inside at all. My solution: mask off the accents and brush on some type of silver paint to cover the tan up. Does anyone know of a type of brush-on paint that will will flex with the mat so that it won't crack easily and last for a long time? Something that soaks into the mat would be ideal, because I have no reason to want to see the tan again. TIA

I'm trying to write a novel...just for kicks. It has an automotive theme, and this is the chapter I introduce the firebird. Main Charactor is a 17 year old boy named Carl. It had only been too easy for the bird to kill its prey. Fishing with dynamite, really. And she wasn’t even a real bird. She was a Pontiac Formula Firehawk, One of the last ones off of the line and one of the fastest ones Pontiac had built. Men who work around machines will tell you that if you take a hundred identical machines, 4 or 5 won’t work all that well at all. Lemons some call them. Others merely cuss at them as they have to go back for a fourth service call to fix them. About 85 or 9…

For some time now we've wanted to add a Wiki feature to C&G to capture the wealth of automotive knowledge we have floating around C&G. We have been waiting patiently for the developer of the IPBWiki software to complete the coding so that we can link your C&G log in to the C&G Wiki.... thus no need for multiple sign on IDs. It has become clear to me that the IPBWiki software isn't going to be completed anytime soon, and even if it were, the support looks like it will be nearly non-existent. I've been trying to find ways of moving forward without IPBWiki... what I keep coming back to is just using the MediaWiki software (this is the software that Wikiped…

All right, so before I ask my question, I would like to point out that I am not "technically inclined" when it comes to cars. I know where vital fluids go and how to change them, but that is the extent of it. So, I'm kind of a n00b when it comes to most things. I was thinking about this on my drive home from work. I drive a car with a column-mounted shifter. Where exactly is the gearbox? Is it in the same place as a car with a floor-mounted shifter? Or in a different place? How does the gearbox know to disengage park for instance in either form? I honestly want to know, and you know, become a little more educated about the car I drive. [/noob]
