My Senior Studio project this semester is to design a car that takes form an function to a new level in a midsize sedan shape that isn't boring. Kinda vague I know, but to elaborate a bit, I was told by the instructor I could do this, so long as I made it "interesting" to the non-car artsy staff who will be judging the project. So my concept is to use famous figures of the past and create innovations that they would find useful in a car if they existed, but more importantly would be useful today. Anyway, the midterm review is coming up, and though I have a lot done, I still need a company name and a car name. It's a 4-door rear-drive hatch (think Mazda6 hatch), RWD with…

I would have to sell my '81 Fender Bullet so that I could have the rest of the money to buy it, but it might just be worth it: http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/2451007578.html Of course, I'd want to do a full on '99 conversion with it; front clip, interior, and wheels. Finding a donor Cherokee for that would be easy and cheap enough. Here's also a runner up: http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/2464101824.html

Alright... want to do me a favor? I want you to listen to this one song and give me your opinion on it. It's "I won't see you tonight, Part 1" by Avenged Sevenfold. Do it however you can. Here's a link to MSN Music if you want to do it that way: MSN: A7X: Song #9 It might cost money. Anyways, this is because I absolutely love this song. It's the best rock song I've heard since Guns N Roses' time. It also happens that all of A7X's music is some the best rock I've heard since their time with beautifully written music. The only downfall may be the lyrics. They're not for everybody. If you can't tell by the name of the band, they're somewhat Punk/Goth... especially on "Waki…

So - I was biking a rather tough trail and decided to try this rocky downhill. The first rock took me off guard, and off the seat. Rather amusing things resulted. I was laughing even, despite the pain. The pain was just temporary and I'm OK. I made this awesome (heh) Paint diagram to share it with all of you.

Just to clarify for the one or two who did not get it, the remark about insta-banning PINGAS meme posters for being "trolls" was a joke, an example of dry humor. I was pretty sure that anyone remotely paying attention since, oh, about 2002 would have figured out that I have a very dry sense of humor, but apparently not. Is PINGAS no longer funny? Oh, absolutely. It is played out beyond belief, as I and numerous other posters have pointed out. BUT--insta-banning PINGAS offenders was just NOT a serious suggestion. I'm well aware that this site has a process of raising a "warning level" in 20% increments, imposing posting approval, temporary time outs from posting, and…

So I was driving home from work last week, when my Yukon started making a thumping noise. At first I thought it was just a bent rim or something, but I would have only been so lucky. After checking out all the wheels and taking it for another drive, I noticed that it only happened under power. After talking to a few people and having them take a look it, we thought it might be the U joint. It looked worn, but after replacing that the sound was still coming from somewhere else. It sounded like it was coming from the rear end. We took a look in the rear end, and this is what we found laying on the bottom.... We decided that this wasn't something that could be do…

If anyone here bothered to picked up Tool's 2001/2002 release "Lateralus" and listen to track 13, "Faaip De Oiad," you may already have heard the major bulletpoint of this radio phone call. For those that haven't heard about this at all, read on and afterwards, click the link. In 1997 -- hell if I know the day and month -- Art Bell told listeners to call in and spill the beans on Area 51, if, in fact, there is something there at all to spill the beans about. Well, ol' Art may have gotten more than he bargained for... When listening to this mp3 file, try your best to hold all judgement back to the very end of the file has been played. This guy, for God's sake, is cryin…

Okay, first off: it's *not* an olds-person's disease. It's basically a hereditary condition where your body makes too much of something called Uric Acid. It crystalizes in a joint (most commonly your big toe) and causes you a intense pain. The first time I had it, I couldn't stand the weight of my bed-sheets touching my big toe -- yes, it hurts that flipping bad. Well, it appears that I've got it in my small-toe -- and it hurts like a mother. Just got out of the doctor (they also found a lump in my wallet, badump-bump) & picked up my prescription. It's soooo lame to be tied up by something so small! I once had it in my knee (and the doctor needed to take a flu…

Since Camino LS6's thread referred to new cars and some of us have been mentioning used car preferences in that thread I thought this would be a fun thread for the used car shopper in us all. For me: Exterior must be in good shape. I little rust maybe and/or th expected imperfections are fine but the paint must overall be in good shape and still shine. It also can't have any large amounts of body damage bigger than a ding. Engine must be clean. No oil or dirt on the engine. Not only is it a sign of engien problems but also of poor maintenance. The interior must be in good shape, nothing broken and everything must work. It also must attractively designed. Materials are …

Guys, "LA CAR" an online automotive website about the southern California car culture will be at AutoBooks in Burbank tomorrow, Saturday, 3-24-07. If any of you have time, come down between 11am and 3pm. Located at 3524 West Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, AutoBooks is Southern California's largest automotive bookstore and one of the best places for car enthusiasts to hang out on a Saturday afternoon. It's not unusual to see celebrities, car designers, and others in the industry stopping by (Jay Leno is a regular, who I've seen there before myself.) AutoBooks has been around since 1951. It was begun as a mostly mail-order sideline by Road & Track staffer Harry…

Four weeks before Northwest filed for bankruptcy, Northwest Chairman Gerald Wilson sold about one-third of his Northwest stock at about five and a half dollars a share. Since bankruptcy, Northwest stock has been less than a dollar. Congresswoman Candice Miller of Macomb County said Wilson is a greedy coward. “Here you have an individual who should be demonstrating leadership… for Northwest Airlines, and instead of that, he couldn’t wait to sell his stock off a month before he must have known fully well that they were going to be declaring bankruptcy. Again, just another unfortunate example – in my observation – of corporate greed,” explained Miller. A spokesperson f…

All right, I was down at a friend of mine's shop just shooting the breeze with him when I noticed a car sitting in his back lot. I saw the Buick herald and asked what year it was. He told me that it was a 1964 Buick 225. The body was in great shape, just needed some paint and needed to have a little surface rust knocked off. The interior was in good shape, actually, great shape. The engine even ran without any problems. The only problem, needed to have the brake system completely replumbed. I asked him how much. My answer: $300.00. I dunno about you guys, but that sounds like a steal for a classic Duece-and spare change. Just curious though, which engine is it? …

As of the middle of November I had my German bank accounts set up. as of now, my friends are purchasing a large two level, 3 bedroom, flat just off of Luxemburger Strasse. I will be renting a bedroom from them on the first floor. The married couple will live on the second floor. Their move in date would likely be around April '08. I will follow a few months later. The pictures I've seen of it are great! There will be more pictures coming.

Well, I went and got screwed out of $9 last night to see the new Zombie flick. I give it a 3 out of 10... It's not true to the original concept, the acting sucks and the story is BOR-ING. It's basically "The Devil's Rejects" with different characters and a more boring concept. Don't get me wrong; I LOVE Rob Zombie and I'm a HUGE fan of House of 1000 Corpses (Hence my avatar) but it seems that he's starting to lose it (Especially on the movie side)

The BBC's globally approved automotive entertainment program Top Gear will not be making a return in 2012. Word came from Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson himself, saying on a South African radio show last week that the Top Gear Festival 2012 would "be the only time" when he and other presenters Richard Hammond and James May would be working together this year. Clarkson would later confirm the news on his Twitter account, adding that Top Gear would return in January 2013 and a full Christmas special would debut before then. So, why has the BBC pushed on…

The date was September 30th, 2005. School ended and everybody went on their way home. Some by bus, some by their parent's, and some by their own vehicle. One person in particular drove his '90s Toyota Tacoma. On his way home, the engine started to stall or something. Pretty soon it stopped and wouldn't start. It caught fire. He called the fire department. As they came the fire had devoured the front half of it. Soon it was out, but too late to save the audio equipment located inside. Anyways, I don't know of the exact details, but this was to a friend of mine. I just had to write it semi-professionally. I guess he didn't pay much for it and in return…

Also their choice of when and where to expand seems rather odd. Countries to get McDonalds first: 1. US 2. Canada 3. Costa Rica 4. Japan The UK even was way down the list...

It predated the Lexus hot rod by a few years but I never heard of it until just now when I found it on some random Infiniti forum. Later on as shown here it was obviouslt deemed cool enough by the powers that be at Nissan & Infiniti to dipslay at the show next to a 2nd gen. Q45 in the 97-01 era. Actaully that looks like a 99-01 Touring edition in the back ground.

Cadillac SRX Lincoln MKX Chevy equinoX (bit of a stretch) Volvo XC90 Volvo XC70 Volvo XC60 Suzuki XL7 Suzuki SX4 Infiniti QX Lexus RX Lexus LX Lexus GX Cheers to Audi for thier Q-line instead of the X-humping, and Mercedes for not even having an acronym for thier SUVs. I'm trying to write a novel...just for kicks. It has an automotive theme, and this is the chapter I introduce the firebird. Main Charactor is a 17 year old boy named Carl. It had only been too easy for the bird to kill its prey. Fishing with dynamite, really. And she wasn’t even a real bird. She was a Pontiac Formula Firehawk, One of the last ones off of the line and one of the fastest ones Pontiac had built. Men who work around machines will tell you that if you take a hundred identical machines, 4 or 5 won’t work all that well at all. Lemons some call them. Others merely cuss at them as they have to go back for a fourth service call to fix them. About 85 or 9…

I just picked up this latest issue. Of great interest (to me at least) is a nice big article on the genesis and styling evolution of the 1977 GM fullsizers. This first round of modern GM downsizing was a spectacular success, followed in 1978 by another successful round when the A- and A-Special cars were made smaller. In 1979, the E-body cars were done, another success, imo. After that, things went downhill for GM, imo, as continued downsizing and the wholesale switch to FWD platforms reached a ridiculous fever pitch that GM has never fully recovered from until very recently. My hopes for GM's future have been high for the last few years, but are starting another dow…

It was 22 degrees. Fired right up, took it for a 10 mile drive through traffic, back roads, and some highway. Works like a champ. Next week it's getting a "new" transmission.

From: GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves…

* Family connections to historic events make those happenings a bit more personable. In this case, a friend’s grandfather drove the last Detroit-built Cadillac Eldorado: http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/04/02/throwback-thursday-11/ BTW, a different theme on Thursday featured a Cadillac wagon & “El Camino”…. &, 1 of Friday’s themes will feature a 1969 Pontiac GTO raced by 2 generations. Missing centenarians cause angst in aging Japan Japan prides itself on the world's longest life expectancy but is struggling with a disturbing footnote to that statistic - revelations that hundreds of people listed as its oldest citizens are either long dead or haven't been heard from for decades. The mystery of the missing centenarians has captured the attention of this rapidly graying nation with reports of scamming relatives and overworked social workers and sad tales of old people, isolated and forgotten, simply slipping out of touch with society. The story unfolded in late July when police discovered that Sogen Kato, who would have been 111 and was thought to be T…

So I picked this album up, and I think it's an awesome effort. I suppose I'm a bit biased, because I'm a huge Kelly Hansen fan because of his previous band Hurricane, and his stint in Unruly Child, as well as being involved in a bunch of tribute albums. Jeff Pilson's involvement as bassist, and backing vocals only seals the deal. How about the rest of you? Awesome effort? Or is it nothing without Lou?

To better reflect where I work and to whom my loyalties lie, and most importantly who signs my check. I have switched my C&G skins to Opel. Opel über allies! And the smilely faces look better with yellow!

For your parts that fit my Chrysler. The HVAC knobs are custom made using the center parts from the Intrepid knobs housed inside the rubber/chrome ring from a GMC Acadia. The stereo knob, which just arrived today, is from a 2013 Sonic. This was kind of a PITA because apparently GM doesn't sell just the knobs so I had to buy the whole stereo. Bright side is that this is the brick stereo out of the super stripper fleet model, so they're dirt cheap used. She gets a little more classy every day. <3

It got interesting towards the end, but my beloved Tigers beat the chickenhawks. No 1 in the country? Maybe, they've been unappreciated in the voting all year. God I love college football.

Reminding us that SUV/CUV/SAV/WTFEverV's don't always have to suck, Porsche and Jaguar's latest respective offerings were involved in a battle of sorts over at C&D. I won't spoil the results, so here's the link- C&D: Jaguar F-Pace vs Porsche Macan GTS So the question is, which would you rather have? Porsche Macan GTS Jaguar F-Pace S

Buicks have tinted windows and are all chromed/golded out. Chevy's are cool and fast. Cadillacs are a rare site. Pontiac's are a rare site. Coupes are everywhere. The Infiniti G35 is everywhere. BMW's are everywhere. Arizona is always hot. Old people drive fast. Everyone drives above the speed limit. Almost every car has tinted windows and nice rims. Mercedes's engines feel very refined. There is alot of traffic. There is no grass. There are alot of hot mexicans/latino boys/girls ^_^ Arizona is very clean. Arizona is a lot like California in that everyone looks the part. Not too many Toyotas around, more Hondas. The mall is 10 times the…

Don't you just love it when you had plans to do something (like a trip or something) and someone bails out and cancels at the VERY last minute? So either you do what you had planned alone or not even bother. Granted sometimes they've canceled because something tragic or important happen that I can understand, but when they cancel because "they don't feel like it" just... I don't know why, but crap like this happens to me all the time and it's not with just one friend in particular it's with quite a few of them. I'm not someone who gets pissed off often but this is one of the little things that grate on my nerves.

Ok, I'm debating if it is time for a new 3rd car...... Have now: 93 Cavalier wagon, 3.1, 135k, needs new-gas tank(maybe line also) EGR. Rusty, but for the most part, very trusty... Considering: 98 Mailbu,3.1, 72k good shape for age..newer alt, runs pretty good.. dealership wants $4900...should be ablr to talk them into the low 4s.... Could get 600-700 for the wagon....and put a little cash down too... I was planning to fix the wagon, but this had me thinking: Fix the wagon, or just get the Bu'? What do you think?

I know there are lots of Pennsylvania forumers here, so I thought I would share this neat promotional video of Philadelphia & surrounding areas from around 1951. Pre-offshoring,pre-drive thru, and mostly pre-suburbia, this is an interesting blast from the past. Little did they know that the mighty Bethlehem Steel would be nothing more than a memory in 45 years.

Do any of you guys and gals own/use a radar detector? I just decided to treat myself to a late xmas gift and got this I found it on sale on another site for $279 with free shipping, so thats a savings of $190. According to tracking it should arrive today and I'm pretty excited about it. I'm not as much of a speeder as I used to be, but still having peace of mind when I do decide to cruise at 80 on the highway is always nice

I am PCS and I approve this message! A few weeks ago when I was home in Delaware, I filled out my primary absentee ballot. The primary is tomorrow for both Democrats and Republicans for Governor, Lt. Governor, various State House and Senate races and County Council positions. I always vote, and I think it's important to do so, there have been a few races in Delaware that has been decided by one vote. I've been asked many times if I was a Republican on this forum or what my political leanings are, I guess many of you by now think you know how I vote because of my preference for Obama for President, don't be so sure. I vote the best person in my view for the job, and…

All right, so I'm cruising around tonight in the truck, blowing off some steam after being at work and leaving from the hospital visiting the little girl and wife in while the little girl cooks for a little while under the lights (she has Jaundice). I'm on the interstate, cruising at about 65, relatively light traffic. A StumpJumper (Ford Crown Victoria with 24" + wheels on it so it now has 2-ft ground clearance) blows past me like I'm sitting still. I decide to follow him to see where the fire is, crank down on the pedal, throw it into 2nd and listen to the quad exhaust pipes thunder (if only I'd finally done the flame thrower kit for the pipes it woulda been a hell o…
