Had or heard any good ones lately? I was watching the Barrett-Jackson auction with a friend of mine. She saw an old pickup truck on there with wood in the bottom of the pickup bed, seemed like it was there to save the paint. So she says. "If I ever buy a pickup I'll get someone to put wood in my box." I also had one the first day I started at a computer shop, back in high school. I told the guy to put the dick in the drive.

Here's the rule. You must use features, designs, and components from currently available vehicles. Stuff from out of production cars doesn't count. For example: Crown Cic body with a FWD CVT mated to a VW 4 cylinder TDI. The interior would feature a center gauge console and column shifter.

Assuming that you can start from scratch, how would you formulate a platform for a third party? Just to get started: - repeal the Patriot act - eliminate income tax - legalize recreational drug use - have the next session of congress spend its time repealing laws instead of writing new ones - base the party on the real world expansion of personal freedom in everyday life. ( to reduce the ever-increasing big brotherism of the present). - the party would be entirely " faith blind" with religion not getting a place at the table. A truly secular philosophy of government.

I would prefer that GM only have one truck brand, either Chevy or GMC, I don't care which. Both trucks are made at the same assembly plants and on the same assembly lines for the most part, no matter what model we are talking about. So the only thing that is really different is the badges. Let's get rid of badge engineering once and for all, shall we Mr. Lutz?

So I've been hit twice by the curse in two weeks.... My son has wrecked the Miata TWICE. First time, he ran off a dark road when he missed a curve...hit a concrete culvert and ripped the front suspension out from under the car as he entered a bean field, broke the motor mounts, and twisted the cradle. Called in a favor from a friend of mine who owns a body shop, had the front suspension replaced with a front suspension from a clean 66,000 mile donor car which we got for next to nothing...paid cash for the repair so my son's insurance wouldn't go up, he is going to pay me back. Sooo...got the car back from the body shop Saturday, got an alignment, car drives much bette…

My aunt & uncle recently have had problems with their brand new Prius. It seem that it quit on them several times while driving. While it's being looked at, the Toyota dealership gave them a new Camry LE as a loaner. Now I have something to admit... I don't think it's a bad looking car. In fact, I think the Camry is a great looking car. Don't get me wrong, I'd never think of buying one or driving one even if I were paid to, but if I were a complete jerk who didn't care about supporting domestics I would not be embarassed to be seen in it. So while you all are flaming me for my apparently dissident (dis)tastes in aesthetics, to make this topic slightly more …

So as you guys may know I've been job hunting for well, a while now. I had an interview for a photography and photo editing company in Amesbury, MA last week. The position was for Digital Imager, which means using Photoshop to touch up photos taken by the company upstairs as well as photos from other companies all over the country. I really wanted a job like this, because it meant I would get to use a program I love to work with to do something I love to do. This also seemed like a place I' like to work because it's family owned and it had a very friendly atmosphere. Plus, my commute would be against rush hour, so I basically wouldn't need to deal with it, and the plac…

I heard an interview on TV yesterday with oil tycoon Boone Pickens, and he said that global oil production is currently peaking at 85 million barrels per day, and that demand is still not quenched by this supply. Because of this, the price of oil will continue to increase. I think that some more supply might be squeezed out in the next decade, but regardless, I may be one of the few that hopes the price of oil continues to increase. I can afford to pay $6 per gallon of gas, that may seem selfish, but I feel like that is the best thing for this country. The best motivation for development of alternative fuels is financial motivation, people will only take electric-onl…

I've recently did the head gasket on my Saab 900 Turbo last week end with my dad. He has outfitted himself with all the necesary air tools in the recent year and has allot of other tools he has had for a long time too. I got a set of air tools with a 5.5 hp electric compresor with 8 galon tank for x-mas this year. We realy enjoyed working on the car together and we both have a passion for cars. We joked arround about doing up a restoration on a big v-8 powered classic or simmilar. Well, I will be seeing allot more of my parents soon due to recent changes so I am seriously considering starting up a big project car with my dad. So far, some of my interests would …

Well, I'll give you the drama, drama version of it.... Many of you remember back in 2005 when I totaled my first Focus. I was sitting in the road and an 18 wheeler doing 45MPH hit me in the rear. I walked away with sore muscles and not much else. Today, the GF and I were carpooling to school. Luckily, I decided to wait for her and just ride with her instead of taking my own car. We get 300 yards from the entrance to school and BANG!!!! I had a bunch of books that I was going to sell back to the bookstore for cash. I sat them on the airbag on the dash and joked (as I have many times with various things) that if the airbag deployed, I'd be toast. Today we were sitting…

A thread about comedians. Who do you like? Who don't you like? Etc. Personally, I've been a fan of Stephen Lynch for a while and seeing him on Comedy Central for the first time in a while last night gave me the idea for this thread. He's a comedic song writer. One simply needs to listen to Hermaphrodite, Lullaby, Grandfather, Talk to Me, Kill a Kitten, or one of his many other songs. They're cleverly written and on top of that, he's a great vocalist and guitarist. Other than him, I'm also a big fan of Carlos Mencia and Lewis Black.

I don't know, but it's like getting my G6 is just more trouble than ever. First it was my Cavalier, then money issues, and now insurance. First, GMAC wanted a co-lessee. I found one, and now the insurance company wants me to insure my co-lessee as well. Now my co-lessee feels puzzled that I might harm his driving record, and by the sound of things, he seems to want to back out, leaving me in the cold. I heard is that in the event that if the car has an accident, ALL insured drivers on that car will be considered having an accident on their record. TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's best-selling newspaper has launched a competition to find the best cartoon about the Holocaust in retaliation for the publication in many European countries of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad. The Brussels-based Conference of European Rabbis (CER) denounced the idea and urged the Muslim world to do likewise. The daily paper Hamshahri said the contest was designed to test the boundaries of free speech -- the reason given by many European newspapers for publishing the cartoons of the Prophet. "A serious question for Muslims ... is this: 'does Western free speech allow working on issues like America and Israel's crimes or an incident like the…

I patched up an old friendship just recently. Actually, it was with my best friend from grammar school. We had had a falling out in 2001, and again in 2008. BOTH were about money. For the first falling out, he had asked me to help him sort out some of the financial paperwork after his divorce. He literally handed me a file box in complete disarray. Not only that, he would ask me for small advances, and was never caught up in repayment. Total loss for me: less than $200. For the second falling out, it was about sorting out his child support status. I told him I could only help him recalculate the right balance. He expected me to take his side that he should be a…

The Year Is: 1988 The year is 1988. You've recently moved to Minnesota and just now learned it occasionally snows there. Since you don't want your current daily driver to get rusty with all the road salt, you decide a domestic front wheel drive car with sporty pretensions would fun to drive in the winter without the risk of ruining your extra-magnum sized Suburban. Whether it's a left over 1987 or one of the new 1988s doesn't make any difference to you. What does though, is which one? 1988 Pontiac LeMans 1987 Buick Skyhawk T-Type 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport VR 1987 Chevrolet Sprint Turbo 1987 Dodge Charger 1987 Dodge Lancer Shelby 1987 Do…

Ya know… I’m not a big fan of Chrysler. Or Dodge. Or Plymouth. Or whatever the “F” they’re called or who owns them these days. It seems they’re always owned by somebody new. As if nobody wants to own them for too long. I’ve only owned one – and there’s a reason – it was an unreliable car (brand new Chrysler 300C) and the service was utter F’n unbelievable GARBAGE. Worst service I’d ever experienced. Even worse than Honda. And that’s saying something because Honda service is what you deserve if you’ve lived a life of sin and gone to Hell for it. All that being said, I have to say – I have a lot of respect for Dodge (I don’t know who owns them anymore because they keep…

I'm not sure, maybe I'm just mentally ill or something. In the past two days, I've been going around, pissing people off and doing some really obnoxious things. First I threw the recycling bins at the front porch where my housemates enter, seeing the bins sitting around after I took them after the garbage day. Then at work, I seemed to have made the already not so pleasant relation with my co-worker co-ops worse. Today one of my coworkers made a stupid comment on how the Camry was a sports car, I literally yelled at him. He was like astonished. Then I started making some stupid comments about my other co-worker, somehow to just for the heck of getting her irritated. Th…

Well... here's the replacement for the Blazer. It's a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire GT. Not what I wanted them to get, but it's not bad. That 2002 Alero was alot nicer, but they waited too long and someone else bought it. It has about 83k miles and it has a 5spd. The interior really reminds me how much nicer the Alero was... Either way, it's a good car. It's basically spotless, but has a few minor problems.

What Makes More Sense? In looking for replacements for the Cavalier, we've narrowed it down to three options. -2007 Cobalt LT/G5 SE Sedan (~20-25K Kms) -2007 G6 V6 (25-30K Km) -2007 Grand Prix (28-30K Km) The Cobalt LT/G5 SE would set back about 12000$, the G6 or Grand Prix 13000$. I know that cars like the Cobalt are the most frequently abused by rental agency clients, even the G6 falls under this category. The allure of a 3800 W-Body is appealing as well. The GP we're looking at is that Grey-Green color with the black cloth interior. The G6 is that Dark Slate color with the 3.5L V6. The Cobalts and G5s are Ultra Silver with the 2.2L L4. I will make cl…

Remember Wacky Packages? And beer can collecting? Well, my brother and I had a huge collection of both. For the most part, the collections still exist (my dad pitched a fit at one point and tossed some of the cans). Now, it looks like there is some value to them so I may be putting them all on ebay. It will be a ton of work, but should be interesting.

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas State Board of Education adopted a social studies and history curriculum Friday that amends or waters down the teaching of religious freedoms, America's relationship with the U.N. and hundreds of other items. The new standards were adopted after a final showdown by two 9-5 votes along party lines, after Democrats' and moderate Republicans' efforts to delay a final vote failed. In one of the most significant curriculum changes, the board dilutes the rationale for the separation of church and state in a high school government class, noting that the words were not in the Constitution and requiring students to compare and contrast the judicial lang…

Detroit's Midsize SUV Problem It's not just the mammoth SUVs that are suffering. The once-powerful midsize segment is also dwindling as gas prices rise and boomers age ------------- In the 1990s, NASCAR dads and soccer moms ditched their minivans for hauling kids and groceries and flocked instead to mid-sized, truck-based sport utility vehicles such as the mega-selling Ford Explorer and Chevy Trailblazer. That was great for Ford (F) and General Motors (GM), who minted money to the tune of $6,000 to $10,000 of profit per vehicle depending on incentive. But the cultural and financial tide has turned against these balky gas guzzlers much faster than any of the compan…

A friend came over yesterday and threw me the keys to his new 2007 Camry XE Sport...Leather, Satelite radio, sunroof, alloys. What the hell, I hate them, but let me see what all the fuss is about! So I took it for a short drive. Here are my findings: 1: Quiet ride, firm suspension and controls. Leather on the steering wheel felt cheap and actually was scratchy on my hands. Hate the silver dash treatment - until you turn on the headlights...then the blue/green ambient lighting on the stereo and other control surfaces is really kinda cool. 2: What is all of the talk about Toyota switch feel all about? Am I missing something? The turnsignal stalk operated with a "…

I found this old 1989 Dakota Sport in an empty lot with some other junkers, Golf, 2 Aerostars, and a 94 Cavalier with a huge whole in the drivers door. I actually went to check out the Cavalier but this. It is in bad shape but the body isnt too bad on it. It has rust on the rockers (not eating away) and the paint is peeling but on trucks, most stuff is replaceable compared to a unibody. The biggest thing that concerns me is the crack in the windshield and I dont know how it runs. However, I have always loved these Dakotas.

LAS VEGAS - Japanese electronics conglomerate Matsu$h!a Electric Industrial on Monday introduced a 150-inch plasma television, which it says is the world's biggest. The new TV boasts four times better resolution than full high-definition 1080p picture quality and offers a screen the size of nine 50-inch plasma televisions. It was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas by Toshihiro Sakamoto, president of Panasonic AVC Networks. Matsu$h!a's new screen, at 12-1/2 feet when measured diagonally, tops the Panasonic brand maker's 103-inch plasma TV released last year. The 103-inch television has sold 3,000 units over the la…

Could you please send out a prayer to help my grandfather up to God's home? I would really appreciate it. He's one of the greatest, wisest men I've ever met, and he's everything a grandpa should be. He worked a really hard life since the time he was 16 on the railroad tracks, then the military, then multiple other jobs (including Packard and Chrysler, where he retired after about 25 years). About 8 years ago he had a heart attack and since then has been fairly weak, and just in the last two years he's been having many more heart problems. These last few months he's been incredibly fragile (but still mentally functional), and this last week he's been hallucinating and ju…

I wrote this on Wednesday for my blog, I'm just going to copy and paste since I don't feel like dwelling on this subject any more than I have to. "I'm going to try to keep this one pretty short... possibly without much structure considering my emotions right now. It's just that, this is the first time I've been home since Sunday. I didn't figure on it when I headed for Dubois that night. I expected to be back Monday after hanging with Salvy and Jay. Come Monday morning, I get a call from my Mom. She was going to see my Grandma who had been in the hospital since last Wednesday for her cancer treatments, or whatever it exactly was. I had wanted to see her and had some ti…

Just a quick update, since I'm exhausted and not only did it all happen so fast, it happened during me preparing, giving, grading, and filing for, a State Exam. I lost hearing in my right ear for a month. Doctors determined it was full of fluid, but why wasn't it draining? Turns out after tests and a catscan, there was a growth inside my head causing pressure and blockage. Anyhoo, doctor insisted it come out right away because it was large and of my age it and its location, there were possibilities of cancer. I went in, it seemed odd that both of the nurses attending me (one in Ambulatory Surgery, and one in the OR) actually spoke Italian. The last thing I rememb…

Hey, PB: How's your new job looking thus far? God, that first day or two until you get the lay of the land is so weird. We've gone through bizarre changes at work in the last 2 months...probably more complex than what needs to be put on the site. However, it has all meant MORE work for me (bleh), so now I am constantly behind and playing catch up. There just aren't enough people around with a minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience to manage projects in the area. I miss a 40 hour work week. So, report back, bud.

Ever walk away from something (a car purchase, a relationship, whatever) ... only to wonder, later, why the heck you did? I think I have had ANOTHER one of those moments...maybe. Yesterday (Saturday, Dec 22), I went to a dealership to look at a 2007 Dodge Charger ... inferno red with the DARK GRAY lower door interior panels, the exact color combo I want. The online price was just under $18K. After I looked at it, the guy ran some numbers for me and came up with just under $400/month payment (at the original asking price). I said no. He came back with a sweeter deal ... ~$360/month. I still said no. He then came back with this: $1K off the internet price, 5.5% f…

All right y'all. I've gotta lay something out here. I was out and about tonight without the wife or the little girl (they were at wife' dance practice). I'm cruising around in the Impala, watching it storm (tornado warning, golf ball sized hail, etc), and thinking of dinner. I get to a local chinese restaurant and there are four guys standing around in the parking lot, I pay them no huge amount of attention, go in, eat and come out. Get back to my car, they come over and start giving me the evil eye. I'm normally not one to have a horribly short temper, but today wasn't a good day at work, so I wasn't in the best of moods. Anyway, back to the subject at hand, as th…

*For NOS and BV's sake, we'll pretent Santa exists, they dont know any better* Its like a week and a half before Christmas, so people are finally getting around to Christmas shopping (at least my family anyways) and they're asking me what I want. And I dont have a frekaing clue. I'd kind of like to get my windows tinted and have keyless entry installed on my car, other than that my life is set and fully occupied. I dont really have the time to mess with things like an XBOX. Maybe I'll just end up getting $$$$.

Alright, so there's another teacher I work with that owns a 2003 or 2004 Chrylser Sebring convertible. This is her 2nd one and she's had her share of repair horrors (1st one had too many tranny problems). She wants a new convertible sometime this summer. Another colleague bought a 2006 Toyota Solara convertible last summer and loves it; no problems and claims because it's a Toyota. Now my 1st colleague has owned nothing buy domestic cars and is considering her first foreign car. She needs trunk room for her beach stuff and backseat room for her young niece and nephew. That rules out the Pontiac G6. I showed her the Saab 9-3 convertible, but the price is more than s…

Not to start a riot or anything but I've kinda always wondered this. Have you known it to upset a Jewish person to see the Nazi flag? Only reason I ask is because in my town, quite a few people wave around the Confederate flag (MD's kinda Northerly to me, go figure) and lots of people I know get pissed off when they see it. It annoys me but never gets me angry. It's kinda like a flag of a failed nation to me, and I can get over the negative connotations. I mean, the oppression is sad and stuff, but if it's a sign of the culture that some southern people still hold dear, it's OK to me and I actually respect it. So what about Jewish people? Since not a lot of German …

My uncle was killed in a head-on collision a few hours ago with another vehicle. The other driver crossed the center line and stuck him on a two-lane highway north of Omaha. We have no details other than both died instantly. The last time I saw / spoke to him was at our annual family Christmas gathering, and I am now regretting not spending more time with him on that day. I'm basically in shock right now...the reality of it all hasn't hit yet.

We all know how kids are. They anxiously await that first taste of freedom that comes with a driver's license, but a lot of them just aren't ready for driving life. Which car do you nominate as C&G's Best First Car, 2006? I nominate the 1973 Chevy Impala four door hardtop with a transplanted 2.5L Iron Duke engine, 3 on the tree transmission, and no power steering or brakes. That should keep 'em out of trouble while learning to drive in a most basic way. I truly believe everyone should know how to drive a manual transmission, and we should all know how to handle a vehicle with no power steering or brakes. Everything else would be cake, and ya never know when you'…

Ok, so I have a Sunbeam toaster. I made some toast with the temperature selection set on "4.5". It was dark brown, but still good. Now the fun part. You know those friends that come up with those "ideas"? Well, I had one at my house today. He suggests to toast bread at selection "7". Do you know what "7" does to bread on this 3823-100 model Sunbeam toaster? It gives you a square charcoal briquette and the scent of burnt popcorn. Now, this just might be me, but I feel that temperature "5" should be "7", or have "5" as the highest setting. Being the pain I am, I sent a statement (not a real complaint) of my opinion regarding this. My most important stateme…

So I try to set myself goals every years. Some are realistic and I don't quite make it and some are a reach and I actually acomplish them. Either way I like making a list at the beggining of the year and do my best to acomplish it. Here's what I got for 2011... 1. Get a new job with a company that is more organized and pays 25-30 percent more base. 2. Finally finish my undergrad (I did college part time after my freshmen year) 3. Sell my car. 4. Move to Brooklyn 5. Get engaged. What major goals do you guys have for the year?

Hello, I noticed that there are a few Albertans on this board... My girlfriend and I are strongly considering on moving from this craphole we call Toronto to either Calgary or Edmonton... This, for the reason of the booming economy, plentiful jobs, and a more comfotable, slower-paced lifestyle... If there is anyone who lives in Alberta, break the ice and reveal if the rumours are true, that life is so great, that kids at Tim Horton's make 14/hr in Calgary and Edmonton, and if it is better for a young couple to head out there, and to where? Calgary or Edmonton? Thanks...
