Okay, so like, I was really bored last night (and the BF was watching his Brazilian soaps on the big TV - yechhh. If you think American soaps are bad, try watching them on Globo - well, okay, the hotties are hotter on those shows, but anyway, I digress.) So, I am in the den, puttering around on the computer and switch to YouTube. After laughing my ass off at the Sarah Pollin skit on SNL, I hunt for old car commercials and take in a dozen or so old Chrysler commercials ("Your Next Car...,") etc, then I see all these videos posted of different folks showing off their old beasties. Ah, a cornacopia of old cars in action. When what to my horrified eyes should appe…

It was brought up in the Fourm Feedback thread. Is it possible to use cruise control in reverse? I think it could work. Ill have to try it out sometime. (in safe conditions) in a ford Aerostar. you can accelerate from a dead stop with cruise. so why wouldnt it work in Reverse. But my idle speed is like cruise in the morning have to ride the brakes on Masonic Blv. to keep it at 30. And no I dont have the Choke.

Hulk's son, passenger are injured The wrestler's son, 17, is driving when the car crashes into a tree. By ELENA LESLEY, Times Staff Writer Published August 27, 2007 CLEARWATER - Professional wrestling star Hulk Hogan's son and another young man were seriously injured in a car crash Sunday evening in Clearwater. Driver Nick Bollea, 17, also known as Nick Hogan, and a passenger had to be extracted from the crumpled Toyota Celica Supra. Officials said both were taken by air to Bayfront Medical Center, where the passenger was reported in critical condition. Family members gathered at the hospital late Sunday, but reporters were kept at a distance. Nick Bollea's inj…

-What is this today that we face in America? Many sad things, Toyota Camry best selling car in America. Al Gore writing his bull$h! global warming book, Michael Moore making fun of America in his documentary... Some America, I'll say. Old farts trading beautiful LeSabres for Prius's, people selling Montana's and getting Corolla's in this day and age anything is possible. We face people so blinded by how great hybrids are, that they have there own list of enviormental problems, like dissposing of those acid filled batteries? When we get right down to it, cheese-burgers, apple-pie and Chevy are true American icons. Tree huggers try to make us "hate" th…

I was walking to class at 9:50 this morning when this little pug dog with a collar ran by me. On my right side was the Memorial Union building, and on the left across the street was a slope down to Lake LaVerne. The lake was mostly ice covered, but there were sections where the ice had melted. I kept walking but had a bad feeling in my gut because once the dog disappeared beyond the crest of the hill, I didn't see him pop out again further up by the sidewalk. I backtracked across the street and saw a little object splashing in the water about 10 feet from the shore. It was the little dog. So I start hurrying over there to the shore. I get out my phone to try to ca…

I have a membership to 24 Hour Fitness, which I bought in Northern California in 1996. They charge my bank account, you guessed it, $ 24 a month. They are all over the West and in other states as well, judging from the map. I also belong to Bally's which I bought when I moved to the Seattle area(there are about 10 in Oregon, too). It's such a cheap renewal now that I just pay it because I would spend more in join-up fees if I moved. For example, ATL and FL have Bally's, but not 24 Hour Fitness. OK, the "low cost" gyms have problems of their own...the clientele they attract. In June, before moving up North, I went to 24 Hour Fitness the evening that a friend was goi…

FrostWire vs. LimeWire
by Guest YellowJacket894- 9 replies

I just read up on FrostWire (a P2P program that is based on LimeWire) and I like the features. It sounds like a nice way to reach out and grab some bootlegs and get into some bands I've been meaning to listen to. I also like the fact that, in addition to that fact Frost wire offers what LW Basic offers, you get some of LW's premium features as well. I just got to know one thing: is the program clean and, if not, is there a way to clean it up. I don't want to do system restore twice a month. If you know anything, drop a line here. Thanks.

Perhaps the greatest (and most dangerous) street race I've ever watched....two British-sounding guys in an '06 Z06 take on a Ford GT on metro Detroit freeways during lunchtime traffic. Speeds up to 160 mph. There are so many times where it could have just ended for one of them....just one little lane change by a passing motorist and it's over. Does anyone from Detroit know if this race made the police scanner or the local news? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICLw_Y-WuuI Here's another involving some Lamborghinis and the GT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGk1iFa_roU...ted&search=

Continuing with the C&G Automotive Awards 2006 presentation, which vehicle do you, dear readers, nominate as C&G's Most Powerful Love Magnet Car for 2006? Let's face it, first impressions are important, and most of us choose a vehicle that we feel extends our personality. For those of us who are single, and even for those of us who are taken, but still like to be the recipient of admiring glances on the road, which vehicle tops the list for attracting friends and potential dates?

Well, I’ve had a busy last few weeks and you’ve probably noticed I haven’t been posting new news or regular commentary around here. Let’s get to the big news first. As of May 22nd, 2012 I am officially a Journalism major with an undetermined minor concentration. That means, in due time, all of the Moorish creases in my writing will be ironed out and the burrs filed down. It also means I’ll be an intern at some newspaper or magazine, possibly even a television station within two years time — that’s a requirement to graduate. It’s been unnecessarily difficult getting to this point and it’s required a lot of sacrifice, so hopefully it’ll be worth it. Also, a few days pri…

The last 3 weeks have not been all that kind to me...computer problems/not being online, personal issues/setbacks, frustrations, aggravations, disappointments, etc. However, last weekend, I was doing the so-called happy dance Saturday afternoon and Sunday...for a reason at which most people, especially given the high gas prices, would probably scoff: My older 4 Monte Carlos made their 2008 debut Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1 ... a whole month and a week earlier than they did in 2007. No, it isn't a normally "celebrated" reason to do the happy dance [you know...girlfriend/wife news, family, personal milestone, etc...society/socially-accepted "norms"], but I wa…

Hey guys, long time no post, but I was reading this article and wanted to share it. I know how some people on here like to talk and a lot of the time its pretty enlightening stuff. But my upbringing was pretty politically oriented in the sense that stubborn Irish Catholics love to fight with eachother over anything after a few rounds, and in Massachusetts its usually politics. But Bobby Kennedy wasn't even a Massachusetts liberal, he was pretty much the first and the last of an age of reform in the sense that he was supposed to start a revolution, or atleast be the first of a new line of leaders as visionary as he was. He was before my time, but I think we all want a …

So with all the discussions that we have had about various engines and how the auto companies are pushing to standardize engine families across the world to address the tax's imposed on size, this made me wonder about why GM has never built a complete family of V engines based on the tough durable Corvette Push Rod V8. I admit I do not have the engineering chops to dig into the fine details and invite those here that do to share with us what they think the HP, Torque and Efficiency would be like on a family of Push rod V engines. This would include my desire to know if a V2 could work as a efficient engine for the Subcompact market? My thoughts Base line Corvette DI V8…

The ambulance company that my store serves has one particular ambulance that really hits a special place with me. Its called Angel One, and its a NeoNatal Transport ambulance. Its one of only two I think in the state and one of only a few in the nation that is specialized in newborn and baby transport. I kinda happened across this old issue of C&D while I was cleaning some stuff. There are some real gems in here. The cover car is the Plymouth Pronto Spyder, which wasn't a bad looking concept car, kind of the Solstice concept before there was a Solstice concept, a lot of the part for the concept were plucked from existing Chryslers, mainly the Neon. The Upfront page is all about the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, which they didn't give driving impressions on, later in the issue they test the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and didn't bitch about the styling or interior. Other tests include the 1999 Mercury Cougar, the Dodge Ram 1500 SS/T which they called "The last of the perfo…

I am really getting sick of this whole trend. Cadillac has embraced this a little too strongly. We all know what an Escalade is - it quickly brings up imagery. However, STS, CTS, XLR, DTS, did I forget any....nuts. I mean, we all know what they are, but then we're really tuned into this whereas average consumers aren't to the same extent. Pontiac is doing this G# thing. I sure hope the new Bonneville isn't a G8. Can't they think of something else? How about this -- the Pontiac Angola? J/K. I voted "Yes...I am sick of it." Between retros and alphanumeric naming of cars, it makes me wonder if designers and marketing people have reached the limits of their crea…

It's a Loooooong story but in a nutshell I have a 1970 Cadillac Coupe Deville sitting on my front lawn right now. As well as two 80s AMCs. A red SX/4 and poop-brown Concord Station wagon parts car. The Coupe Deville has a VERY interesting history involving a funeral parlor, deceased owner and how it was driven for only 7 miles when new and then it sat in a garage for over two decades. Now it has (supposedly) only 29K original miles and yet New England winters have pretty much made it a parts car. There's enough rust on it to plug the hole in the Titanic. Still, just haivng a 1970 Cadillac on your front lawn is cool. I love starring at it. Now I have TWO 2-doo…

Cut the Fat: A Smaller GM is the Only Way to Go Please note this isn't actually what I want to happen, but rather what I think has to happen in order for GM to survive, and not only survive, but thrive. Here is how I would go about fixing GM: Kill: Pontiac, GMC, Buick Sell: Hummer Possibly stop selling in US: Saab Keep: Chevy, Saturn, Cadillac I'll see how long I decide to write for, but here's the basic idea: I think it's pretty obvious GMC has nothing but rebadges. The Acadia is their most unique product, and there are 3 other Lambdas. Reasons to support cutting GM have been addressed in the last week or so, so I see no reason to expand. Most buyers woul…

A friend of mine has been diagnosed with depression. However, he has chosen not to seek treatment (which would include a medical leave from work and daily therapist sessions) because he feels it is a "copout" FOR HIM. He does not feel, however, that those diagnosed with depression (and seeing treatment) are "copouts" ... just him. In fact, he says he realizes that others need that "push" to turn things around and doesn't think badly about or begrudge anyone who chooses that route. However, for himself, he feels that he shouldn't need help to "get happy" again ... and doesn't want the "stigma" of having depression. I don't agree with him. First, many people are diagn…

My Firefox has been a bitch lately. It's slower than usual and it even froze up on me earlier today. While Im not ruling this out, I highly doubt it's a virus or spyware as I'm not going to any irregular sites, just the same ones that I never had problems with even when I used IE. Now, not long ago, I did make it so I could watch videos and listen to music, but just for Youtube and Myspace. I just had some plugin installed that Mozilla's website suggested. I'm primarily interested in this thread being about non-cosmetic mods although this first one kind of straddles the fence. I was walking down the street here in Rome today when I stopped dead in my tracks. Normally I pass Pontiac vans without batting an eye, but seeing a Pontiac is rare here and something else caught my eye...a Chevrolet badge. It was essentially a Pontiac Trans Sport with Chevy bowties on it, they didn't even change the grille. I decided that someone must have done it themselves, that there's no way GM would just slap some bowties on a Pontiac and call it a day...maybe it was imported over here and the badges were missing? But after doing a check online, sure enough...the Chevrolet Trans Sport exists.

They asked the chairman how many people have applied from other plants to transfer/work at his when a job opening becomes available such as somebody that takes the buy-out. The answer they got was shocking. Just three people have said they would move to his plant to keep their job. My take? GM is going to be royally screwed by the # of employees taking the buy out and it will catch them off guard in a big way. Watch for them to hire off the streets in the 4th quarter.

Last night I was involved in a pretty bad accident. I lost control of my car after being cut off by another driver and ended up swerving off the road before hitting a telephone pole. I was with a friend of mine and luckily, she was fine. I was banged up a bit by the impact, but I'll be fine. The car (my IS), was totaled. I know how lucky I am to have walked away, but I can't seem to shake this depression it's put me in. It's the second accident in under 4 months that the car's been involved in, so insurance is a mess and I likely won't be able to replace the car anytime soon. I've had a rough year, so this latest incident just adds to everything.

Has it been 7 years already? I remember I was in NYC at The GM building in Manhattan that day. I can remember how blue the sky was , the smell in the air after the attacks and the dust that seem to envelop all of Manhattan as time wore on. I remember the constant whine of sirens as emergency vehicles raced to and fro. Has it been 7 years already, to me it seems like yesterday and I will never forget that day ever. I remember how hard it was to get out of Manhattan, how the cell phones didn't work and the internet came to a grinding halt, no way to let my family know I was ok, and that I was not affected, but who am I kidding, we were all affected, and the United States wi…

It doesn't seem far from where you live. I wish there were yards like this where I live, they're all just about gone now. Any yard around me today is just a scrap yard, and vehicles are stripped of parts then crushed and sent off to be melted or put on a ship to China. Actually, there is one junk yard left that I know of, in Morrisville, PA: http://www.junkyardbarbie.com/ Looks like I c…

Happy birthday to CARBIZ, our member who refreshingly is one of the most "no bull$h!" people on this forum. Enjoy your day up in T.O.! Any plans? BTW, have you seen that great video of that street interview gone south on a street in downtown Toronto? It was so funny, that about 5 of us watched it DAILY at work for about a month, almost like a ritual.

When both my aunt and I first saw the G35 coupe, we knew it would drive like a dream, so we were afraisd to drive it becasue it was expensive. The salesman tok us out in a test drive. To reach into the rear seats, on the back of the front seat is a handle you pull up, and a black button is underneath it. Press it, and the seat slides forward gracefully and silently. The light sand-colored leather was incredible and comfortable! The dash had a sliver outline, which was gorgeous! The features the salesman explained were like what one would find in a Bentley! When the salesman allowed my aunt to kick it into gear, she did, and the experience was unforgettable! When the car t…

Replacing his 91 Caprice Classic, my dad bought this car used in 96 with only 30,000 on the clock. He needed something with a smooth ride since for his career (rick management) he travels quite a bit to medical facilities across the state. Both myself and my brother started learning to drive on this car. Over the years, very few mechanical problems have arose so when it was time to buy another car for my brother, they bought a 92 and shortly after my mom's sister had bought a 93. Well, now the time has come that now some mechanical issues are coming up and my parents have probably invested a few thousand into the car to keep it running. At the moment, it leaks gas, oil, h…

So dropped by my fav. body shop to check on a truck our company owns, that is getting some mechanical work done. They were doing a cleanup on a car a customer had brought in...a Cadillac with a very dirty interior. Everyone thought the interior of the car was black....owner of the shop actually found a few pieces from a car with a black interior in a local yard... They start cleaning...car has a saddle/Tan leather interior..car is a Cadillac...after three hours of running a shop vac, an industrial strength steam cleaner, and dumping aquarium levels of water on the carpets, they are still pulling stuff out that looks like a chocolate milk shake.... They have a whole cr…

Seems a normal human proclivity to want to be near others of your feather. When on a road trip, do you take note of other vehicles around you? Do you tend to form a convoy of good buddies and travel for miles, maybe mildly jockeying for position in line, but staying together in a ragtag group? Strangers traveling on the road of life together, separately, having never spoken, maybe glancing over for a split second to see who's who... And it all falls apart when they turn off, or when you hit the toll booths and they have an easy pass and you have to go into the "cash only" line.

So, if there was one car you could pick up from the side of the road for cheap, what would it be? You can list as many that come to mind, but keep down to the top three. :AH-HA_wink: This is what I'm thinking of... The 1993 Pontiac Sunbird had some odd but interesting changes from the regular bland Cavalier. There was a front faceia that disowned the BMW Kidney-grille setup more commonplace on today's Pontiacs and was more in line with a 1978 Firebird. The interior had an odd layout and very unique instrumentation. Although a bit feminine, with the right mods you can put some chest hair on this J-Body. Take the above car and apply the following: -Convert the J-Body…

My mom decided to put our house up for sale without telling me. I actually found out myself when I saw a picture of our house in the newspaper and on the internet. I'm mad!!!!!! We are selling because my parents are getting divorced which sucks. Our house is going for $529000 CAN. Here it is. Hopefully someone who will take care of it buys it. My House We also need to leave that bar there in the backyard. That part is sad because my mom built that herself and it took her about 2 months. She built it for my dad for his 50th 3 years ago.

So in addition to tinkering with my car I've started tinkering with my plane. After not one but two crashes yesterday which managed to do a good chunk of damage to the plane, I fixed it up and did another upgrade. It now has larger wheels, because they look cool and more proportionate, but more importantly they make the plane more stable during taxiing, takeoff, and landing on grassy surfaces. Since we always fly in a field, this has made life much easier. Made a huge difference today. Naturally I can't resist an excuse to take photos. Besides, Captainnbooyah wanted to see them.

I'm talking to a friend's brother today about cars and he's like "WTF is drifting?" So I explained the basics and said I'd emial him some cool video footage except I can't find too many good ones. I posted a great one on the old forum (pre-August-crash) it was off of BigBoys.com (now Break.com) but since our old Forum is inaccessible I'm wondering if you guys can post some good links in this thread. Here's a decent one: http://www.dumpalink.com/media/1132567542/..._Drifting_Video except it's all choppy and keeps "getting stuck" on my old POS machine. Thanks in advance.

.....well, it's either off of a Camaro or Firebird. My Chevy buddy tells me the spoilers were of different angles/heights- he believes this is Camaro, but doesn't recognize the stripes. I've seen a pic of striping similar on a Camaro, tho it had 'Rallye Sport' above it (perhaps removed here?) Anyone recognize which this belongs to? I want to sell it, need to target the right motorheads. I realize the decklid itself is interchangable. Only thing stamped on it is 'T39'.

Yes I did... buy a Hostess fruitcake. I think it's tasty if taken in moderation. What do you guys think? Is it a seasonal treat, or should it be left to rot on the store shelf?

I've been a member of Planet Fitness since 2006. It's OK I guess. I mean, for $15/month, what do you want? A while back I was robbed there when a miscreant broke my puny lock and stole all the cash out of my wallet. Kinda put a chill on things. And before that I was growing ever more meh about the joint. So I stopped in to LA Fitness today and took the tour. Kid took me around and through the whole place. They have a pool (good exercise kickin' water around), a steam room (my sinuses are ruined, a sauna should help that), free classes, a free personal training session, and whatnot. But kid giving tour lost points when the first thing he said when I tole him I am …

So I was up in my attic the other day... seeing what boxes I still had for my diecast models (trying to sell some of them... will be a thread about it soon). I've been up there before, but I noticed something for the first time. Well... I'll let the picture speak for itself... Appearantly, my house caught on fire once. Couldn't have been within the past 15 years or so, though. I think I would have noticed something like that... above where my bedroom is. It just caught me off guard. But it really makes me wonder...

What Are You Reading?

I'm bound to get a response like "Reading f@#king sucks, man, go watch television" here, but whatever. I'm willing to take that risk. So, question is, what are you reading? I don't care if it's a novel the size of a $h!house brick, the Bible, "Car and Driver", or the side of a cereal carton, just post, up the old post count, and whistle some cheezy tune in the key of A. What am I reading? "Futility" by Morgan Robertson and "The Sun Dog" by Stephen King. Note: I feel like mentioning the novella "Futility" for one, if not a few, reasons. I'd like to point out that it was the novel that strangely foreshadowed the Titanic disaster of 1912. (The book wa…

tonight, Vikings / Cowboys so the Vikes hold a 10-3 lead late into the 4th quarter. Dull, but solidly played game. You don't care if J.T. I suck again, er, JT O'Sullivan gives the game away because he does suck, you expect it, and its JUST PRESEASON FOOTBALL. Ok, well, he didn't lose the game, but the cowboys get the ball for the final drive and march down and score a touchdown with like 15 seconds left. that makes the score 10-9. NOW, what next? Obvious. Go for two points to either win or lose the game. Let's get it over with and go home. NOT EXACTLY. in a strange twist of fate....the Tuna (Bill Parcells) decides to kick the extra point and go into OT. …

There is a 1967 Impala SS fastback sitting at Orangeville Motors. We took a look at it and it is nice. It is a Southern Car and it has 134 miles on it. It has everything original. It is numbers matching. It has the Vinyl top. Disc brakes, Rallye Wheels which was the first year for them. It even has the redline tires. It has bucket seats, a tach and gauge package and shoulder belts. It is also an air conditioned car from the factory. It has the 327 motors with the Turbo 400 auto trans. It is in very good condition and runs well. It is seliling for $16,500 CAN. Would this car be a good investment since it has all the rare options and will it appreciate much in value in comi…
