I'm talking to a friend's brother today about cars and he's like "WTF is drifting?" So I explained the basics and said I'd emial him some cool video footage except I can't find too many good ones. I posted a great one on the old forum (pre-August-crash) it was off of BigBoys.com (now Break.com) but since our old Forum is inaccessible I'm wondering if you guys can post some good links in this thread. Here's a decent one: http://www.dumpalink.com/media/1132567542/..._Drifting_Video except it's all choppy and keeps "getting stuck" on my old POS machine. Thanks in advance.

Well, the thread title pretty much sums up the problem. The roof wants to vent, but the right side doesn't want to slide back, when the left slide does. The Chrysler/Dodge dealer sais it would cost $670 for a new assembly + labor! Thats outrageous, I'd rather just get another car. Any ideas or know where I can get used parts cheap cheap cheap? Oh, and the vehicle in question is a 2001 Plymouth Neon.

The last 3 weeks have not been all that kind to me...computer problems/not being online, personal issues/setbacks, frustrations, aggravations, disappointments, etc. However, last weekend, I was doing the so-called happy dance Saturday afternoon and Sunday...for a reason at which most people, especially given the high gas prices, would probably scoff: My older 4 Monte Carlos made their 2008 debut Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1 ... a whole month and a week earlier than they did in 2007. No, it isn't a normally "celebrated" reason to do the happy dance [you know...girlfriend/wife news, family, personal milestone, etc...society/socially-accepted "norms"], but I wa…

* Yesterday, 05/02/2015, had awesome weather for a great road trip (northeastern IL to southwestern IL) with a cousin to visit Country Classic Cars & see some friends in different places on the way back. I took a few pics, including at CCC (Staunton IL) & Cozy Dog (ate lunch there, Springfield IL, Route 66) … & have them cued to feature on my website in the coming weeks, including some this week for “Tuesday Trip” (7a US central). Meantime … do you take your daily driver to the track? http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/05/01/friday-files-15/ & … what oil do you traditionally use? http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/05/02/automotive-daily-104…

I just read up on FrostWire (a P2P program that is based on LimeWire) and I like the features. It sounds like a nice way to reach out and grab some bootlegs and get into some bands I've been meaning to listen to. I also like the fact that, in addition to that fact Frost wire offers what LW Basic offers, you get some of LW's premium features as well. I just got to know one thing: is the program clean and, if not, is there a way to clean it up. I don't want to do system restore twice a month. If you know anything, drop a line here. Thanks.

Why don't you do a project car as opposed to buying something "new" for you vehicle with the greater "mechanical" feel...? I always think of you for some reason when I think of this thing. Not usually into lowered trucks but I like this one for some odd reason.... Of course, you could always roll with something more old skool...wid de rims... Or here is an old Hilux truck I saw in a historical neighborhood in Columbus the other day....

http://jalopnik.com/5491612/pussy-wagon-stars-in-new-lady-gaga-music-video If you have ears you've probably heard a thousand Lady Gaga songs. Or at least you've heard one song a thousand times. And because her very NSFW video "Telephone" co-stars the "Kill Bill" Pussy Wagon you'll now know another song. This could be the actual Silverado SS Pussy Wagon from the Kill Bill series or a detailed replica, but who really cares as long as it's P***Y Magnet Yellow?

It was brought up in the Fourm Feedback thread. Is it possible to use cruise control in reverse? I think it could work. Ill have to try it out sometime. (in safe conditions) in a ford Aerostar. you can accelerate from a dead stop with cruise. so why wouldnt it work in Reverse. But my idle speed is like cruise in the morning have to ride the brakes on Masonic Blv. to keep it at 30. And no I dont have the Choke.

It's a Loooooong story but in a nutshell I have a 1970 Cadillac Coupe Deville sitting on my front lawn right now. As well as two 80s AMCs. A red SX/4 and poop-brown Concord Station wagon parts car. The Coupe Deville has a VERY interesting history involving a funeral parlor, deceased owner and how it was driven for only 7 miles when new and then it sat in a garage for over two decades. Now it has (supposedly) only 29K original miles and yet New England winters have pretty much made it a parts car. There's enough rust on it to plug the hole in the Titanic. Still, just haivng a 1970 Cadillac on your front lawn is cool. I love starring at it. Now I have TWO 2-doo…

So with all the discussions that we have had about various engines and how the auto companies are pushing to standardize engine families across the world to address the tax's imposed on size, this made me wonder about why GM has never built a complete family of V engines based on the tough durable Corvette Push Rod V8. I admit I do not have the engineering chops to dig into the fine details and invite those here that do to share with us what they think the HP, Torque and Efficiency would be like on a family of Push rod V engines. This would include my desire to know if a V2 could work as a efficient engine for the Subcompact market? My thoughts Base line Corvette DI V8…

I would've liked to meet John Candy because he is my favourite all-time comedian and Harley Earl because he changed the Automotive Industry. I would also like to meet Carroll Shelby and Chip Foose because they are both big names in the automotive industry and I like what they have done over the years.

Its two years old already but I just got this G3 DVD. Recorded in Denver in 03 Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen Old guitar player and fan of Joe that I am I just sat and watched in awe of the talent of todays modern Wizards, separately. Then in the end they do three jams together. The second was Jimi's Little Wing and I just feel apart. Was so good to see that these masters paid tribute and remember from where they came. Bless ya Jimi ! Anger, he smiles .towering in shiny metalic purple armor Queen jelously, Envy waits behind him .her firey green gown sneers at the grassy ground Blue are the life giving waters taking for granted .they quietly unde…

Lately I have picked up running / jogging after having been mostly inactive the past couple years (with the exception of lifting weights on occasion). I started off pretty hard, doing two miles and running about half of it and getting a little winded, but otherwise fine. The second time was easier, but my legs began to get a little sore and I started getting shin splints (however that has gone away). The third time I ran for 3/4 of the route and got home and my legs were spasming, and then sore for days afterward. This was about three weeks ago. Ever since then, I have been unable to run hard; I start running and the calf in my right leg feels weak to the point whe…

So I was up in my attic the other day... seeing what boxes I still had for my diecast models (trying to sell some of them... will be a thread about it soon). I've been up there before, but I noticed something for the first time. Well... I'll let the picture speak for itself... Appearantly, my house caught on fire once. Couldn't have been within the past 15 years or so, though. I think I would have noticed something like that... above where my bedroom is. It just caught me off guard. But it really makes me wonder...

My mom decided to put our house up for sale without telling me. I actually found out myself when I saw a picture of our house in the newspaper and on the internet. I'm mad!!!!!! We are selling because my parents are getting divorced which sucks. Our house is going for $529000 CAN. Here it is. Hopefully someone who will take care of it buys it. My House We also need to leave that bar there in the backyard. That part is sad because my mom built that herself and it took her about 2 months. She built it for my dad for his 50th 3 years ago.

How in high school you had the biggest crush on a girl. Would do anything for her just to see her smile, or would do anything for her just to make her day. Then, you go years without talking. And you meet up at a bowling alley, exchange #'s and she's blowing your phone up 24/7? Damn, I love the feeling.

So dropped by my fav. body shop to check on a truck our company owns, that is getting some mechanical work done. They were doing a cleanup on a car a customer had brought in...a Cadillac with a very dirty interior. Everyone thought the interior of the car was black....owner of the shop actually found a few pieces from a car with a black interior in a local yard... They start cleaning...car has a saddle/Tan leather interior..car is a Cadillac...after three hours of running a shop vac, an industrial strength steam cleaner, and dumping aquarium levels of water on the carpets, they are still pulling stuff out that looks like a chocolate milk shake.... They have a whole cr…

There is a 1967 Impala SS fastback sitting at Orangeville Motors. We took a look at it and it is nice. It is a Southern Car and it has 134 miles on it. It has everything original. It is numbers matching. It has the Vinyl top. Disc brakes, Rallye Wheels which was the first year for them. It even has the redline tires. It has bucket seats, a tach and gauge package and shoulder belts. It is also an air conditioned car from the factory. It has the 327 motors with the Turbo 400 auto trans. It is in very good condition and runs well. It is seliling for $16,500 CAN. Would this car be a good investment since it has all the rare options and will it appreciate much in value in comi…

I am really getting sick of this whole trend. Cadillac has embraced this a little too strongly. We all know what an Escalade is - it quickly brings up imagery. However, STS, CTS, XLR, DTS, did I forget any....nuts. I mean, we all know what they are, but then we're really tuned into this whereas average consumers aren't to the same extent. Pontiac is doing this G# thing. I sure hope the new Bonneville isn't a G8. Can't they think of something else? How about this -- the Pontiac Angola? J/K. I voted "Yes...I am sick of it." Between retros and alphanumeric naming of cars, it makes me wonder if designers and marketing people have reached the limits of their crea…

I have a membership to 24 Hour Fitness, which I bought in Northern California in 1996. They charge my bank account, you guessed it, $ 24 a month. They are all over the West and in other states as well, judging from the map. I also belong to Bally's which I bought when I moved to the Seattle area(there are about 10 in Oregon, too). It's such a cheap renewal now that I just pay it because I would spend more in join-up fees if I moved. For example, ATL and FL have Bally's, but not 24 Hour Fitness. OK, the "low cost" gyms have problems of their own...the clientele they attract. In June, before moving up North, I went to 24 Hour Fitness the evening that a friend was goi…

So I've been itching to reduce my carbon footprint around town for a while, and what better way to do that than to drive a vehicle which will likely end up killing me! I've been eying bikes over the past year, and casually gone to dealers, Harley's 'Test our Metal' gig, and a big show last February. I've sat on quite a few different types, and seem to have found that I'd be most satisfied with something out of the 'cruiser' category. This might change, of course. My problem is down to figuring out what I should be looking at in this category. I have no real brand loyalty, and just want something that will suit my needs. I'm 200 pounds, about 6'1. The purpose of the bik…

So in addition to tinkering with my car I've started tinkering with my plane. After not one but two crashes yesterday which managed to do a good chunk of damage to the plane, I fixed it up and did another upgrade. It now has larger wheels, because they look cool and more proportionate, but more importantly they make the plane more stable during taxiing, takeoff, and landing on grassy surfaces. Since we always fly in a field, this has made life much easier. Made a huge difference today. Naturally I can't resist an excuse to take photos. Besides, Captainnbooyah wanted to see them.

A few days ago I posted a thread titled "Critical mass" during a point this week where things in my personal life had become very stressful to me and I needed to vent. I eventually deleted that thread not wishing to add further stagnation to the stormy climate here at Cheers and Gears. In that thread I made mention that doctors were fairly certain that my uncle had cancer. This bit of news was the "breaking point" for me earlier this week, having witnessed two family members fall victim to the disease prior. I really didn't know how to handle that news. However, I recently received the good news that they are no longer certain that he has cancer. I am relieved to say th…

Along with that, I've got philanthropy/community service to complete along with projects in and around the DTD house. Procrastinating doing work for work, and on Carmax since they take multiple pictures of every new vehicle on their lots. Thought I'd check out a new Avalon... ...not sure why... ...just curious. What do I see? Scrooling through, first confirmed how literally this "all new" Avalon really is the same old car since '05, but with some chrome trim, a few different mold shapes on the plastic, and yep, same "okay then..." build quality these have been known for in the past few years. Not the greatest. Admittedly, it's a small piece, and not uncommon. But a brand new $36k Avalon Limited, dealer taking pictures, and they snap one of the sunroof with the trim ring inside hangi…

Cut the Fat: A Smaller GM is the Only Way to Go Please note this isn't actually what I want to happen, but rather what I think has to happen in order for GM to survive, and not only survive, but thrive. Here is how I would go about fixing GM: Kill: Pontiac, GMC, Buick Sell: Hummer Possibly stop selling in US: Saab Keep: Chevy, Saturn, Cadillac I'll see how long I decide to write for, but here's the basic idea: I think it's pretty obvious GMC has nothing but rebadges. The Acadia is their most unique product, and there are 3 other Lambdas. Reasons to support cutting GM have been addressed in the last week or so, so I see no reason to expand. Most buyers woul…

That's right long before the EV-1, GM planned to make the mighty Chevette the Electric Car of the future, way back in the 70's! Meet the Electrovette! This ain't your Daddy's Chevette! GM - Quote "The Electrovette is the first of a new series of electric test cars produced by the General Motors Corp. This experimental prototype uses twenty 12-volt maintenance-free batteries weighing 920 lbs (417 kg) which are carried in the rear seat compartment. I've always been curious as to what the problems were with the Cadillac Catera. I liked the car when it came out in 1997; heck, even a few people in my development own one. But it seems as if you mention the name "Catera" here and people get all angry. What exactly was wrong with this car? Did GM/Cadillac fix the problems in its last model year (2001)? Thanks for the insight!

Last night I was involved in a pretty bad accident. I lost control of my car after being cut off by another driver and ended up swerving off the road before hitting a telephone pole. I was with a friend of mine and luckily, she was fine. I was banged up a bit by the impact, but I'll be fine. The car (my IS), was totaled. I know how lucky I am to have walked away, but I can't seem to shake this depression it's put me in. It's the second accident in under 4 months that the car's been involved in, so insurance is a mess and I likely won't be able to replace the car anytime soon. I've had a rough year, so this latest incident just adds to everything.

I'm bound to get a response like "Reading f@#king sucks, man, go watch television" here, but whatever. I'm willing to take that risk. So, question is, what are you reading? I don't care if it's a novel the size of a $h!house brick, the Bible, "Car and Driver", or the side of a cereal carton, just post, up the old post count, and whistle some cheezy tune in the key of A. What am I reading? "Futility" by Morgan Robertson and "The Sun Dog" by Stephen King. Note: I feel like mentioning the novella "Futility" for one, if not a few, reasons. I'd like to point out that it was the novel that strangely foreshadowed the Titanic disaster of 1912. (The book wa…

I'm going over one owned by the guy that owns the Healey race cars getting it ready to be sold. The car is red with a white top and red/white interior. Decent driver quality. I'll post pics at some point.

This week, I wasn't able to attend the memorial service of an elderly woman I've known since 1978 ... when my grandparents moved to Batavia IL so my grandfather could pastor a church there. And, in a way, I'm glad I didn't go. Back in 1987, when my then best friend died, I was all about the memorial service. I felt the need to BE there ... and, I was. It was awesome hearing people talk about him ... and hearing stories about him that, sadly, I didn't know. I even found out that he didn't want me to know how bad his asthma was ... because of my own health issues. But, since then ... and especially in the last few years ... I've grown to dislike and not want to attend…

Ever since the Saturn Ion made its debut, I've always seen the 1991 Chevy Cavalier Sedan in every exterior styling element of the car. (Well, except for the side scallop and the wheels on the Ion.) Anyone else see it?

this one is going to come completely out of left field for me, but right now I've gone more or less completely stir-crazy. Its been two days and two nights of having the house to myself and its TOO quiet!!!!!! I'm so used to having my wife and girl around the house that spending the past two nights alone has been hell for me. Can't sleep, can't really sit around the house and relax....can't really do anything. Its too quiet and its too peaceful around here!!!! I want them to come home.... I hate this feeling....its really weird.

It's been more like two plus years now, but here is the story with the original intro... Almost exactly one year ago, a friend challenged me to answer a couple of questions. What you see below is one of them, followed by my answer. As you can see, I got a bit carried away. I may return to this someday as it took me in a new direction. Or not. -Camino ************************************************************** Allow yourself to assume the role of Dr. Frankenstein. You have the ability to pick and choose the best traits of humans to create the perfect man. Which traits and characteristics do you [imbue into] this new and better man? A friend of mine has been diagnosed with depression. However, he has chosen not to seek treatment (which would include a medical leave from work and daily therapist sessions) because he feels it is a "copout" FOR HIM. He does not feel, however, that those diagnosed with depression (and seeing treatment) are "copouts" ... just him. In fact, he says he realizes that others need that "push" to turn things around and doesn't think badly about or begrudge anyone who chooses that route. However, for himself, he feels that he shouldn't need help to "get happy" again ... and doesn't want the "stigma" of having depression. I don't agree with him. First, many people are diagn…

My Firefox has been a bitch lately. It's slower than usual and it even froze up on me earlier today. While Im not ruling this out, I highly doubt it's a virus or spyware as I'm not going to any irregular sites, just the same ones that I never had problems with even when I used IE. Now, not long ago, I did make it so I could watch videos and listen to music, but just for Youtube and Myspace. I just had some plugin installed that Mozilla's website suggested. I don't think it would have this affect on Firefox... but knowing my backwords working PC, I wouldn't doubt it. Otherwise, I don't know what could be causing Firefox to run so slow. I can't even use IE anymore which is …

Perhaps the greatest (and most dangerous) street race I've ever watched....two British-sounding guys in an '06 Z06 take on a Ford GT on metro Detroit freeways during lunchtime traffic. Speeds up to 160 mph. There are so many times where it could have just ended for one of them....just one little lane change by a passing motorist and it's over. Does anyone from Detroit know if this race made the police scanner or the local news? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICLw_Y-WuuI Here's another involving some Lamborghinis and the GT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGk1iFa_roU...ted&search=

So, if there was one car you could pick up from the side of the road for cheap, what would it be? You can list as many that come to mind, but keep down to the top three. :AH-HA_wink: This is what I'm thinking of... The 1993 Pontiac Sunbird had some odd but interesting changes from the regular bland Cavalier. There was a front faceia that disowned the BMW Kidney-grille setup more commonplace on today's Pontiacs and was more in line with a 1978 Firebird. The interior had an odd layout and very unique instrumentation. Although a bit feminine, with the right mods you can put some chest hair on this J-Body. Take the above car and apply the following: -Convert the J-Body…

I was out and about, and bought this for my son's birthday. That got me thinking about getting an RC car of my own. Maybe this 1:24 Chevy Wrangler (I laughed when I saw that on the website) or an FJ Cruiser/Hummer type off roader so I can play with it in the back yard. Toys R Us did have a couple cars that I'm interested in, one is a green Barracuda that looked pretty cool, the other is a Porsche 911 that is incredibly detailed, but $65 for something that I'm going to burn the motor out on then disassemble for fun seems like a waste. Wal-Mart did have a Hot Wheels BMW M6 on clearance, but I hate RC cars that only use AA batteries.

Well, after tooling about for a little over a year in the Buick, I see my GMAC coupons are telling me that I have 8 payments left..... So, considering that I have seen some rumblings about lease pull aheads, and assuming they will still be in effect in the next few months.... What ever shall I purchase this time?? My wish list before looking at the $$ deals, is a Camaro or pick up a G8 before they are gone. I wish the orange was still available on the G8. So, orange Camaro, with orange interior trim and black SS stripes, aqua blue Camaro with white SS stripes, stryker blue G8 or either car in the Sport Red tricoat. Thoughts? Other suggestions?

So companies this week have been rolling out the commercials leading up to SuperBowl Sunday. Have you watched any yet and have a favorite? http://tv.yahoo.com/news/how-will-audi-s-super-bowl-commercial-end--you-decide--181755230.html;_ylt=AhC9VB5XUIFJWztrjZN_WcuOJvJ_;_ylu=X3oDMTNvNXFsY2w3BG1pdAMEcGtnAzNiZTg3ZGFmLWFjMDEtMzdjYS1hMTZlLWExYTYwNmVkZjViMQRwb3MDMwRzZWMDTWVkaWFCQ2Fyb3VzZWxNaXhlZExQQ0EEdmVyA2Q0NTk4YmMyLTZhMzctMTFlMi1iYmZjLTUxNWE4ZjNmYWZmYw--;_ylv=3 Yahoo has a section that allows you to start watching, so far I have to say that VW commercials are a dud. Replacing his 91 Caprice Classic, my dad bought this car used in 96 with only 30,000 on the clock. He needed something with a smooth ride since for his career (rick management) he travels quite a bit to medical facilities across the state. Both myself and my brother started learning to drive on this car. Over the years, very few mechanical problems have arose so when it was time to buy another car for my brother, they bought a 92 and shortly after my mom's sister had bought a 93. Well, now the time has come that now some mechanical issues are coming up and my parents have probably invested a few thousand into the car to keep it running. At the moment, it leaks gas, oil, h…

Has it been 7 years already? I remember I was in NYC at The GM building in Manhattan that day. I can remember how blue the sky was , the smell in the air after the attacks and the dust that seem to envelop all of Manhattan as time wore on. I remember the constant whine of sirens as emergency vehicles raced to and fro. Has it been 7 years already, to me it seems like yesterday and I will never forget that day ever. I remember how hard it was to get out of Manhattan, how the cell phones didn't work and the internet came to a grinding halt, no way to let my family know I was ok, and that I was not affected, but who am I kidding, we were all affected, and the United States wi…
