Was just searching through for some Motorweek videos...and found this one of a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo. Guess I was out of the loop, unaware of the TURBO 3.1L V6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGcEqvOgEVw Otherwise, a really interesting review, and WOW, so evident of that awful 80's/90's "GM syndrome" with the visbily clunky and junky interior, KIT car dash lights and buttons, etc. And really love that, uh, "great" braking action of the 1990 ABS system and wonderfully non-sophisticated mushy all-strut W-body suspension. As much as I had to laugh, really brought back fond memories of crusing around in my grandmother's '92 Grand Prix LE sedan--that was still, by…

The video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf3Rw8VW3aE...2D2%2C00%2Ehtml And the aftermath: Top Gear Offends Malaysians Alison Godfrey 5 April 2007 www.news.com.au Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has offended Malaysians with his latest stunt on the cult automotive show. In the latest episode of the show in the UK, Clarkson labelled one of the country's cars the "worst in the world" and "unimaginative junk, with no soul, no flair and no passion". He then attacked the Perodua Kelisa with a sledgehammer and hung it from a crane with a one-tonne weight attached before blowing it up. It's not the first time that Clarkson has voiced his frustrations with Perodua. In an a…

TEEN DRIVER CRASHES POSE GREATEST THREAT TO OTHER ROAD USERS, ACCORDING TO AAA FOUNDATION ANALYSIS AAA Auto Club South To Focus Advocacy Efforts on Strengthening Florida’s Teen Driver Safety Law TAMPA, FL (January 18) - The majority of people killed in teen driver crashes are people other than the teen drivers themselves, according to a recent analysis of ten years of crash data by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. The new analysis shows that young novice drivers comprise slightly more than one-third of all the fatalities in crashes in which they are involved; whereas nearly two-thirds of those killed are other vehicle users and pedestrians. The "Worst Case Scenario" thread brought back a memory of a TV show that I thought you might all be interested in. FOG was mentioning that it shouldn't be hard to retrofit cars to run on hydrogen. Turns out he's right, as long as the car is carburetted. The show Mythbusters was testing methods of saving fuel. You've all seen the crappy infomercials, so they were testing if any of these products were actually worth money. To test, they had an early 90's Accord, representing fuel injected cars, and a late 70s Oldsmobile Omega, representing carburetted cars. They tried all the fuel saving methods on both cars, and they all failed, some even made the mileage worse. Then the…

Before my brother's wedding last weekend, he sent me an email, inviting me to a BBQ this weekend. I had every intention of going camping this weekend, and I told him what I was going to do, with the qualification that if it rains, I would be at his house and not stuck in the woods in a tent waiting for the sun. It rained. I read the email as the BBQ was going to be today, and I was all set to show up at my bro's house this afternoon... but, stupid me, I reread the email last night, and the BBQ was yesterday at 3 pm. Now I missed out on camping and my brother's BBQ. Happy 4th, oh yeah. And I feel guilty for not paying closer attention to the date in his note. He le…

Just watched the first few episodes of DEXTER on OnDemand. Boy am I hooked to this show. Not often do I get sucked into a TV show. I've actually always considered people who are addicted to television to be sad. I like to LIVE life, not just experience life vicariously through a two-dimensional media. That being said I love this show. It's such an awsome premise to have a dark hero "serial-killer-killer" or perhaps it's more like "serial-serial-killer" or is it "serial-killer-killing-serial-killer"? Thoughts? Other fans of the show?

I was out and about, and bought this for my son's birthday. That got me thinking about getting an RC car of my own. Maybe this 1:24 Chevy Wrangler (I laughed when I saw that on the website) or an FJ Cruiser/Hummer type off roader so I can play with it in the back yard. Toys R Us did have a couple cars that I'm interested in, one is a green Barracuda that looked pretty cool, the other is a Porsche 911 that is incredibly detailed, but $65 for something that I'm going to burn the motor out on then disassemble for fun seems like a waste. Wal-Mart did have a Hot Wheels BMW M6 on clearance, but I hate RC cars that only use AA batteries.

So, its Friday at 4:30PM and its been raining since, oh, say, 10:00PM on Thursday. Visibility is less than a mile and the sky is still pouring torrents of rain. You come upon an intersection that is flooded out with perhaps two and a half feet of water. You're driving a Toyota Celica. Do you... A) Go as far around it as you can. B ) Stop, wait for the flood to subside. C) Stop, make a U-turn, seek an alternate route. D) Drive right through it because, hey, if the National Guard 6x6 in front if you made it, you can too! Some chick chose D and became the fifth of eight cars I saw flooded out today. One was a spankin' new Mercedes CLS with the window sticker still on it…

I'm shopping for snow tires for the Camaro. I have a set of the 18" wheels (black heritage wheels on the LS) that I got for cheap to use for the winter. However, while searching for winter tires on ebay to see if there were any deals, I stumbled upon 19" tires that would fit the wheels I currently have on the car. If I can get them for cheap I may go this route instead. The ad says they were on the vehicle for 3-4 months and have "no tread wear." Well of course that's pretty impossible unless they were only driven on for a few hundred miles. The quarter makes it look like there's a good amount of tread left, but it's still hard to really tell for sure. Hard to measu…

So, yesterday my family and friends decided to get together, pack a whole bunch of $h!, and go to the beach for father's day. They left early in the morning...like 10:30 or so...I said f@#k that noise and slept in till around noon-ish...I decided I'd just meet them at the beach. It's time to leave and right now my car is kind of out of commission for the moment...nothing serious, just doing a couple things, so I couldn't drive it, so my sister let me drive her car. So everything is all good. I get down to the beach, and you can either park in the lot for $7 bucks, or park on the side of PCH for free. I didn't have any cash on me, so I went driving up an…

With me looking to turf my Dahlia Blue 1997 Cavalier, and am looking to buy something new this fall... I've short listed it to a few choices, most with the 3.1L V6 as it is relatively efficient, and I need some advice to prioritize my list before I talk to my used car guy. I'm currently considering: 1997-2001 Buick Century 1995-1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (3.1L) 1995-1999 Chevrolet Lumina (3.1L) 1995-1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo (3.1L) 1997-2001 Pontiac Grand Prix (3.1L) 1994-1995 Pontiac Trans Sport 3.8L/Chevrolet Lumina Minivan 3.8L (The Dustbusters) Now, my gut is telling me that the best choice is the Century because of the JD Power Awards for quality and de…

600HP and 630lb-ft from 2500-5500RPM on stock engine? So, if I get an internship and make $10k next summer, who thinks this is a good idea? http://www.ls1turbo.com.au/ The car fitted with it ran a 10.53 @ 137MPH, and it's heavier than the GTO... so that means under 10.5 in the quarter I may need to upgrade the tranny, but other than that it can run on the stock motor, and has a good warranty.

Well, guys, this is what I came across today... I mean, the guy seems sincere. He says he's found a car he likes and he went as far as to purchase it, but I don't know. He's almost bought cars before, and he technically hasn't taken delivery of this one. Some guy could knock on his door at midnight tonight and sell him a silver 2005 GTO for $500. All he has to do is get a replacement for the busted steering column and scratch out the VIN. Heck, I'll throw in the Illinois plates for free. So, in short, Amer_Rev says he's done car shopping. Should I buy it?

Two days ago I spotted an old Chevy dump truck in the distance. As I got closer to it, I realized it was the truck I built in the early nineties! It's a '78 LWB C-30 with a 454 that I re-bodied and painted to match my '90 Silverado. Amazingly, that old 454 (original) is still going strong, although the rest of the truck is quite battered at this point. It turned onto my road behind me and I stopped to talk with the owner who loves the old beast. It was loaded with woodchips and making a delivery in my neighborhood. We chatted about the truck and both of us got to grinning and laughing at the unlikely encounter. Left me in a much better mood, and with a big smile. This…

Toshiba asks $250 for theirs while i found a different manufacturer for $130. well the first was replaced for free under a recall notice, the next one i bought out of pocket for the $130. the toshiba replacement lasted nearly a year and a half, the $130 for maybe 8 months... you get what you pay for i guess. i kept the bulb off the bright set…

Hey guys, On thursday I'm leaving with the family and one of my friends to Maui. We are staying at Napili. My family has been there a couple times before, and I've been once before when I was a lot younger. I don't remember too much from it. My buddy is excited because he hasn't been there before, and he loves fish so he is planning on snorkeling and scuba/snuba diving and just hanging out in the water for the most part. Does anyone know of any activities to do around there? Like in the Ka'anapali area or Lahaina or wherever? There will always be the snorkeling/diving options, but I was also thinking maybe parasailing, or personal watercraft rentals or just something a …

I'm primarily interested in this thread being about non-cosmetic mods although this first one kind of straddles the fence. Anyway, here goes the first one which is a hack that recommends simply wrapping the inside of your car door in order to make it more visible when you open it on the street: http://auto-trim.org/2013/12/11/prevent-accidents-by-wrapping-the-inside-of-your-door/

For her 2nd birthday "Unlce Ross" (XP) got Sofia one of those super cool Hot Wheels Tracks and donated his gently used Hot Wheels cars to her already impressive collection. The two of us goofed around with it for a while but it took her a couple weeks to really get into it and figure out the ins & outs of the high-speed figure-8. I took this photo the other day when I was showing her how to break it down and re-assemble it. Cadillac, Truck, Fish & Puppy are the newest words that she's learned. In that order.

Recently, I've had a guy inquire about my front fender. He's all the way over in Washington state. Talks of shipping have been going on and I'm not entirely sure how to do this for a reasonable price. The length, width, and height are very close to putting it over UPS/FedEx's limit for a large package, which adds a $45 upcharge to an already high price due to distance. I'm not entirely sure I can find a box that will be under the said limit and still be able to fit the fender. Weight-wise, it's just under 10 lbs. Is there any way I can ship this without getting him raped on fees and not likely to go through with the purchase?

The last Sunday of August (August 30, 2009), I had to buy a new battery for my 1981 Monte Carlo SC. I've owned this car since December 1999 (when I bought it from my parents) and have not previously replaced the battery during my time as owner. The old battery was a GM/AC Delco battery. So ... I asked Dad to look through his records to find out when that battery was installed. He looked and found that it was bought and installed February 4, 1997. The '81 MC SC had 167,000 miles at that time. When I replaced that battery, the car had 192,000 miles. Thus ... that GM/AC Delco battery lasted over 12.5 years ... and 25,000 miles. What is the longest a battery has laste…

There are many of them out there and I have no idea what ones are good, bad, complex, or simple. I'd say the maximum price for one would be $200. First big cookout of the year is going on as I type. Hamburgers on the grill, cold beer and other assorted beverages in the cooler, and a nice little fire going in my newly built (literally started yesterday and finished today) fire pit. Marshmallows are being roasted, s'mores are being made. The only way the night could be more perfect is if it were lit by fireflys.

Government ordered to recall Toyota and shutdown their factories. It is a big game the government does not want you to believe in. Toyota still has the best quality vehicles and its vehicles do not fall apart unlike GM's and Chrysler's. Come visit Toyota of Melbourne and we have marked down all vehicles by 20% and owners of Toyota get another $1,000 in loyalty discount. Buy Toyota - an American brand, build in America by Americans for Americans. In a real hick voice on 102.7 WHKR.

Piggybacking on ocnblu's sequential turn signal thread, while searching for some videos on that topic I came across the video link I posted above. It's a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am Coupe done up in "Knightrider KITT" style but plussed even further. I think the owner did an awesome job and I really like the end result. At the end of the video he shows the LED underbody lighting feature and call me crazy, but I think that's something that police cars could benefit from having. Enjoy!!

Heh ... I guess it was only a matter of time ... SPAM Emails coming to one's cell phone. I received my first such, in the form of a text message, a few weeks ago. But, today, I received 2 of them within an hour ... about 2 hours after a friend of mine received one on his cell phone while I was talking to him. Anyone else receive such text messages on cell phones? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21978302/?GT1=10547 LOS ANGELES - Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of the popular 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been found dead from unknown causes at his home in Las Vegas, authorities said on Monday. DuBrow, 52, was found dead at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Clark County Coroner’s Office said. She said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death. “I can’t even find the words to say,” Quiet Riot bandmate Frankie Banali said on his Web site. “Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend, Kevin DuBrow.” Quiet Riot, which was founded in the mid-1970s, topp…

There is a '71 Eldorado for sale in the Wal-Mart parking lot, $5000. Its red with a tan top and red leather interior. The body is really straight, the interior is in great shape, only problem I see is the rear window on the passenger side is down and I dont know why. I want it and I could probably talk my way into being permitted to buy it, but I'd have to find someone to give me a loan for at least part of it and someplace to store it.

I was just wondering if anybody knows approximately what the 1999 Riviera Silver Arrows go for. I never see any up for sale and I know somebody who was wondering how much they go for generally. He actually has two of them in storage in mint condition. I think they are both under 40k miles. Anybody know how much they would be worth? The price guides tell me nothing. Thanks.

A video for YouTube put together by MoparPerformance at GMI features about five or six of my old sketches, ones from when I was doing them mostly freehand, save for the use of pocket change and a ruler. There's also sketches done by American_Revolution_2005, Burns, and Plum Crazy on there. Link Thanks to MoparPerformance for featuring my sketches.

DISCLAIMER: This post is kinda spooky...if you're going to bed soon, you might want to hold off checking it out until morning. So, my mom is a teacher and one of her co-workers lives in a small town called Irwin. Anyway, apparently there is an old 100+ year old house right off the highway that is haunted. They sent us a link to a paranomal website featuring the house. Check this out: The people that live in this house have no kids and moved in a few years ago after the former family moved out because they were scared of the spirits inhabiting the home (the current owners didn't find out it was haunted until after the sale). They hired some paranormal dudes to come…

Last night my mom and I were sitting in the living room chatting about things and......life... and... then, we talked about living and dying. I said to her: ' Mom, If ever I end up in a vegetative state when you are alive, please never let me go on like that.....totally dependent on machines and liquids from a bottle. If you see me in that state I want you to disconnect all the contraptions that are keeping me alive. I'd much rather die'. Up went my mom from the sofa, with this real look of admiration towards me...and proceeded to disconnect the TV, the Cable, the Dish, the DVD, the Computer, the Cell Phone, the Ipod, and the Xbox, and then went to the fridge and thre…

From the Land of Generica: The Idiot's Guide to Automotive Grill Design 9/19/2011 - Drew Dowdell - CheersandGears.com How do you break into the world of modern automotive design? Our new "Land of Generica" series will coach you through the intricacies of modern automotive design. First in what promises to be an exciting series, designing the grille of the car. The grille is the "face" of the car and carries your and the car's personality out in front. Naturally, such an important component of automobile design requires a strict selection process. You can print and keep this guide in your pocket in case Ed Welburn or Harley Earl's ghost ask your advice on a new model.

In starting to plan the September 2009 Route 66 tour (formal announcement coming soon), I realize that Route 66 isn't the only old, nostalgic route available to travel. The Lincoln Highway is another one...which, unlike Route 66, spans across the entire United States, from coast to coast. Maybe someday I'll have time to do that route. In the meantime, while I'm familiar with some sections of the old Lincoln Highway (notably through Geneva IL, towards Elburn IL, and points farther west) due to historic marker signs along IL RT 38, US Route 66 is the one old highway that really interests/intrigues me. I've always been curious about Route 66 ... because I enjoy older ca…

Yesterday I was having some work done at the Ford dealer. A woman, blonde no less, came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. We all looked at each other and the mechanic asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?" She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there." The mechanic gave the women a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had the hood up and asked, "Is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said, "Of course, it's …

Connection Problems

Can anyone explain why my connection has headed south literally overnight? Yesterday, I managed to get a decent dial-up connection of around 46.6. Tonight, I've gotten nothing but a lousy 28.8. Usually, disconnecting and reconnecting fixes the problem on the off chance it happens. But now, it's all I get. Running at half-speed just doesn't work. And I can't tolerate a slow connection. Any way I can get my connection back to normal speed? This is getting aggravating. If it helps, here's the Modem Log.

Do we have a peanut butter appreciation thread? If not, here it is. The only real problem I am aware of with peanut butter is its pretty high in calories. But in return, you get full. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM OK, here goes. My faves in the peanut butter world. TRADER JOE'S the basic creamy unsalted or crunchy unsalted is the best best best! I add a little honey and stir it in, but even without its SOOOOOOOO good! MARANATHA. Expensive, but so worth it. The creamy no stir is awesome, the regular Maranatha is fabulous as well. SMUCKERS A little bland and I am not diggin the finely chopped added texture but otherwise for cheap PB is pretty good. JIF Jif Na…

After a particularly aggravating commute, I decided to post this list of the things that annoy me. These things may not seem like "bad driving", but they reduce the efficiency of our roads, and waste everyone's time. Feel free to post your own pet peeves as well. This list is expressway-specific. 1. People who don't get over to the right. You are supposed to drive in the right most lane unless passing. When the highway is packed, and you are constantly passing, go ahead and drive in the left lane. Expressways would flow so much better if everyone just moved over. Then I wouldn't have to guess what the guy in the middle lane is going to do when he encounters the slow…

Okay, I want to know what these orange-reflective colored poles are called. They're usually steel, but I've seen some that are plastic (I'm more interested in the steel ones). The reason? My Homeowners Association meeting is coming up in two weeks. My development, unlike many other housing developments, businesses, and shopping centers in NJ, does not employ the use of these marker to aid snow plow drivers when plowing my housing development. What would normally be two passing lanes have turned out to be one, maybe one & a half narrowly plowed lanes. I have seen how these markers improve plowing results outside of my community and want to recommend my HOA purcha…
