More pictures on the Audi RS6 Forum Things to be aware of: The car is an Audi RS6 Avant ABT, and was in pristine condition before the incident. The photos show the car exactly as it was after the crash (there was no cutting of moving of the vehicle done by the emergency response team). The driver called emergency services on his cellphone and got out unaided. The driver had only minor scratches, and after a couple of hours in hospital, came out with only a bandage on his little finger. And for the understatement of the day, "The police believe that excessive speed was a contributory factor in the accident".

Guys, My friend got me the Supreme Commander RTS game, which is Err. Amazing. So much that I am hooked to it for hours. My only problem is my old farty rig is not capable enough to handle it. The system resources are highly slowed down by it, (does not surprise me) My Rig's current config. P4 HT 3.0 GHz. 3 GB PC3200 Ram. 128 MB FX5200 AGP VIDEO Card (The Bitch of the Problem) 300 W PSU. I do not have money to get the bang for the buck system, but I do not mind investing about $150-175 for a better Video Card. Considering AGP is already dead, can anyone please suggest me a not so power hungry AGP video card with Pixel Shredder and other technologies without emptyi…

I just got done doing a mileage conversion for the Opel Zafira. The one sold in Mexico gets approx 32 mpg. The others sold throughout the world with the 1.8 4-cyl get 37 to 38 mpg with 140 hp on tap. The diesel versions get over 45 mpg! We would save over $170 per month in gas by owing a Zafira over the Suburban. Yeah, it's not as big, but with the money saved I could pay for the roof carrier, and get a decent hotel when we travel. Heck, a trip to LA in a Zafira compared to our Suburban would save us over $300!! Even with the bigger engine. GM I WANT A ZAFIRA NOW. Please get your act together and bring us the good stuff. Anyone know how hard it is to get a veh…

I found a 67 or 68 Eldorado, gold in colour, east of my town and I really want it. It is in need of desperate restoration but the body and paint and still alright. I felt sorry for it because it is buried in a snowbank made by a snow plow in a lot with 2 or 3 Corvettes, 86 and 87 Corvettes. It is right beside a shop and I need to know whether parts for these are hard to come by. I know parts cars probably are. Also, are these reliable enough to make the trip to Woodward. I will update next time I find out some info.

Some good reads in there. There's a write-up on the G8, and they put some miles on a new Commadore, there's a comparison test of the Silverado and Tundra (GM won!). Also is a interesting write-up from angus Mackenzie (editor) in regards to Thomas Friedmans comment in the NY times about GM building "gas guzzlers". He make several good points against Toyota and how 12 of thier 17 cars in the booth at NAIAS were new Tundra's. I like the comment were he says: "It's become fashionable to eulogize Toyota for building inviromentally friendly vehicles. But the only thing green about the Tundra is the color of the $1.3 billion or so Toyota has splurged on the factory to build …

Apparently enough so that a woman would give her baby up for the downpayment... Clicky "Pueblo, Colorado police arrested three people on charges of using a 5-month-old baby as a down payment on a car – not even a new car, but a used Dodge Intrepid. A young woman apparently tried to get a car and some cash and only had the baby to offer in exchange. Allegedly, Nicole Uribe gave the baby to Jose-Juan Lerma and his wife, Irene, for the down payment on the car. She also would have received an unspecified amount of cash, in addition to the car. The baby is now in a foster home, while the three suspects sit in a Pueblo jail with bail set at $50,000 each. After being tipped to …

A fire fighter is working outside the station when he notices a little girl in a little red wagon with little ladders on the sides, a garden hose coiled in the middle, and wearing a fire fighter's helmet. The wagon is being pulled by her dog and her cat. "That sure is a nice fire truck," the fire fighter says with admiration. "Thanks," the girl says. The fire fighter takes a closer look and notices the girl has tied the wagon to her dog's collar and to the cat's testicles. "Little Partner," the fire fighter says, "I don't want to tell you how to run your rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's collar, I think you could go faster." The little girl …

I am considering a low-mileage car, unfortunately it is a 1995 Neon but it does have 76,000 kms and is almost free of rust except for the underbody. They want $2000 for this car certified and all repaired, it needs new exhaust and new lines. Would this vehicle be worth $2000?

It's an idea I'm considering (as are my parents) My dad has a 2003 base Venture, which is in pretty good shape (about 50k on it) My mom plans on getting an Arcadia this spring, and my dad plans on taking the her Astro, due to the fact he just not happy with his Venture. It doesn't have issues, as my dad simply doesn't care for it any more. They were considering trading it in for the Arcadia, but they are going to get killed on trade in, as these vans can be had pretty cheap around here. (I've found more than a few near new under 10k) I figure if they are going to take a hit (not really, it's almost paid off), why not sell it to their son? I'd be looking at a…

If I had the money, I would do this... ...To the front of my S10. Also, I was flipping through an Auto Trader Extra the other day, and found something I'm going to look into: locally, there is a 1994 Chevy S10 for sale with a 350 V8 for only $2,900. I know the truck is worth that much in powertrain modification alone, so I'm excitied I found this kind of deal. I have to pick up another Extra, though, to get the name of the dealer and the phone number. There is one problem, however: the color is yellow, and it's not GTO YellowJacket yellow, either. This shade is too . . . light for my tastes, so I'm thinking I'll eventually do a paint scheme that would be pearlescent b…

The last car (and my only new car) I bought is my 1992 Regal. I still have it, as most of you know (** as you scream Cheapskate! **) The MSRP sticker was $ 18,736 and I got it for $ 16,900 without even saying a word. I went in there with a typed list of all the codes and MSRPs...I guess they don't see that often. So, on 5-16-92, right after getting back to Portland from Champaign IL (bleh!), I took delivery of the car. Now, the MSRPs on the sleds I am currently looking at are in the $ 23,500 to $ 24,500 range. Some have incentives of $ 1,000 or $ 1,500, for example. In your mind, that means that you should be able to get the initial deal (the dealer's "issue" - …

Low mileage, super-charged, no scratches or dings, slim attractive design. Performs great, but requires premium fuel. Recommend only filling up at Macy’s or Saks otherwise performance not guaranteed. Fuel from other locations may cause failure to start. People afraid of exotic Italian maintenance costs should look elsewhere. Was fun when I first got it, as the maintenance bills piled up, the fun factor went down. Requires synthetic oil. Recently being used by other drivers, but always garaged at home. Requires *HUGE* amount of garage space for the multitude of tires. Has NAV system, but generally drives where it wants, when it wants without regard for the owner. NAV sys…

The L WORD, a show on SHOWTIME about Lesbians. It's pretty much is a dumb show. The storylines and dialogue and dumb as heck (ok, not dumb, just overdone)and are merely needed as a part to set up the real story. Which is to have a show on TV with chicks kissing. So since I just got satellite and a big ass plasma TV, of course (and because its on like ALL THE TIME) I find myself watching it. I watch it to watch women make out, and that's about it. Just curious if there is any sort of outside opinions on whether you think the show sucks, is good, or otherwise. Most showtime orgiinal shows are pretty lame anyways. Or maybe, the story is fine, its just the acting…

Yesterday in Bracciano, we were at some guy's apartment who is also a well-known chef in the area and since he works part time for Iowa State, he cooked us a seven course meal. While we were there, his wife had on their collection of 80s music, and one song came on that I know I used to hear on the radio when I was a little kid and want to try to find it, but I have no idea who it's by or what any of the lyrics even are. So I figured I'd give it a shot and see if anyone here knows what song I'm talking about. The singer sounds a lot like the guy from Depeche Mode or the Cure, but the song isn't by either of those two as far as I know. It's sort of a slower tempo song…

Anyone else notice how we tend to associate certain smells with people and or places/things? Sometimes, those smells that smell good to us ... don't smell good to others ... and vice versa. Sometimes, the smell is equally displeasing or pleasing to everyone. Earlier today (Saturday), my sister noted how she loves the smell of her scarf ... because it smells like the home she and her husband own. I'm not so sure I agree with her assessment, but it is home to her.... For me, I associate newly-cut grass smells with awesome summers at home while I was a kid. I associate the smell of smoke with many bad experiences. And, of course, I love the smell of cars ... old and, …

Within the last few weeks, I've received communication (to put it mildly) from the local hospital that did the surgery to remove my gallbladder IN 2005. The first letter I received indicated that they had sent my bill to a collection agency for failure to pay. I combed through all of my medical bills/records ... and found NO EOB from my then insurance company, nor did I find any bills/communication from the hospital. So, I called and told them that I wanted an itemized bill. "It's on the way", so I was told. Then, the week I was at home after the pacemaker replacement surgery, I received ANOTHER letter from them. This time, it indicated that they "had not been able …

Earlier this week, I had an "uh oh" moment on the way home. I was in the right lane of a 2-lane road and was trying to get over into the left lane. I kept checking my rearview mirror and glancing back to see if anyone was coming, but a Ford Explorer kept speeding up and slowing down such that I wasn't able to get over. In the meantime, the minivan ahead of me suddenly slammed on its brakes ... apparently because someone else had slowed down to turn right onto another street. At the time that I looked back ahead of me (I had been checking the rearview mirror), I panicked ... and hit the brakes, thinking I was going to hit the minivan. My '87 MC LS screeched to a halt …

Last week, we get 15 inches of snow, this week, it's mostly 40s and beautiful out, the only problem is there are huge puddles everywhere from the snow melting, and in the morning it's dangerous walking to class because the sidewalks are covered in ice in some places. Tomorrow was supposed to be 55 a couple days ago, now we're getting a high of 38 with rain and high winds! Then, Sunday and Monday, we're getting rain/snow! Spring cannot come soon enough. I'm tired of winter, want to be able to wear a T-shirt and shorts, and want to be able to wash the car, which is somewhat dirty even though it just sits in the garage most of the time. OK, which state has the most degreed population? Probably not a surpise. It's Massachusetts. 35.8 % of the adult population holds at least a bachelor's degree. (Heck, they have Harvard and MIT across the street from each other). In general, the most degreed areas are the Northeastern states. In the list are three outliers, somewhat Western, probably because of their progressive nature or yuppie appeal...these are Colorado, Washington and Minnesota. The least educated state is West Virginia, with 17 % of the adult population holding a degree. That's where Clarice from "Silence of the Lambs" is from. That's less than half that of Massachusetts. This is very important indeed. My friend (who has a Toyota Corolla I've mentioned before), his sister got a job I guess and she needs a car now. His family has always bought Japanese cars (they're Asian). Well I've talked with him before about some of the hot new American cars (he wants a Saturn Sky someday), and he was very impressed with my Intrepid, so both him and his sister want to give American cars a chance. The problem is that their dad is very bias and refuses to allow anything besides Japanese cars into the family. I find it screwy because it's her money that she's using to buy a car, but whatever. So here's the challenge: I need to come up with a list of…

Here we go again. So they replaced both the master and slave clutch cylinders. It worked good...for about a week. Saturday night while I was delivering I started having problems. I would have the clutch all the way in and the car sounded like it was going to stall when it was at as stop and in first (like if you were taking the clutch off without giving it gas). It wouldn't come out of gear either...and when I tried to go it would lurch forward and stall. Normally I pass Pontiac vans without batting an eye, but seeing a Pontiac is rare here and something else caught my eye...a Chevrolet badge. It was essentially a Pontiac Trans Sport with Chevy bowties on it, they didn't even change the grille. I decided that someone must have done it themselves, that there's no way GM would just slap some bowties on a Pontiac and call it a day...maybe it was imported over here and the badges were missing? But after doing a check online, sure enough...the Chevrolet Trans Sport exists.

Some friends and I took a trip to the fine country of Canada this weekend. We hit up Winnipeg and a few towns in between and a had a great time while doing it. On the way home we took the long way, through a lot of small towns in Southern Manitoba. One thing I happened to notice is that in a lot of these small towns close to the border, there are a lot of nice, new homes (and quite a few being built) and what looks to be a lot of successful small businesses. A ton different compared to the small towns of the same size just across the border in North Dakota. People on average don't build new homes on the North Dakota side of the border unless it is in a town of at lea…

Flybrian's Random Car Showcase Presents... The 1993 Cadillac Sixty-Special Through boredom and...well, just boredom, I bring you the first in likely many little 'diaries' of a completely random car. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Throughout Cadillac's history, the Sixty-Special moniker was used to denote trims of the Series 60 Cadillac that were in some ways - well - special. The very first model to bear the name was the 1938 Sixty-Special, featuring a longer wheelbase, lower ride height, and no runningboards. Over the years, Sixty-Specials typically had slightly extended wheelbases, more chrome decoration, a top-tier Cadillac model, or simply the highest trim level of the…

My friend just crashed his Mazda, and now end up with a G6 rental. He was telling me he has a V6, so I'm suspecting it's a 2007 with the sport package, i.e. 17" wheels. So if I swap my 16s on and take the 17s, will they catch us and make us pay??

Uh, the phone just rang. So, being a dummy, I picked it up. On the other end was a young lady fresh out of her "English as a Second Language" class. She wanted me to visit a resort in the Poconos Mountains. Just for taking the tour, I'd receive a free flat screen television. So, I asked her if the resort is "clothing optional". She didn't know what that meant, so I said "Do you have to wear clothes when you go there?" She answered "I am not selling anything. I do not know what the question is you are asking." I love telemarketers soooo much. :AH-HA_wink:

So my car, which is normally red, is some sort of brown color now. It needs a bath. Currently it is 58 degrees outside, but the wind is blowing up to 40mph. I dont see any reason this wont be fun.

1994 Caddy Fleetwood sedan (not a Brougham). For sale locally. I have admired this car for the past two years, as I've seen it parked at ACME several times and just driving around town. Problem is that finances aren't supporting this purchase, neither is the wife. Caddycruiser has been a big help so far with answering questions for me - thanks bud! Pray for me that I hit the lottery this week... I'll go and play today! In the meantime, if anyone wants to donate to my "cure this disease" fund, I'll be happy to take your money! :AH-HA_wink:

Well I just watched Tokyo Drift on a bootlegged dvd. and right after it i think Hmmm... I have a FWD beater with a new trans!. Lets destroy it. Oh god i think I drove around for about 2-4 hours doing e brake assisted drifts, spinning the tires while the engine is bouncing off red line while sliding at a 60º angle. Its so unpredictable tho. I thought i was almost about to crash my car a couple times. It will probably get old soon but its so fun. Although RWD is fun and controllable but, doing it in a FWD car is so risky. Any one else find drifting fun? this is true drifting not power sliding. Boot legged DVD are pretty good to I was surprised. The movie was decent bu…

The Sunday before my pacemaker replacement surgery, I took my '87 MC LS to get washed and then drove it out to the heated garage where the older 4 MCs are stored to leave it since I wouldn't be able to drive for a week. During the drive between the car wash and the garage, a song came on the air that seems to "pop up" just when I need it. For whatever reason, whenever I hear the entire song on the radio, I get the "it's going to be all OK" feeling. The song? "Drift Away" ... and it doesn't matter if it is Dobie Gray's original version or Uncle Cracker with Dobie Gray. It is one song that tells me everything is going to be fine. Most times, I'm hearing it during a ro…

My pacemaker was replaced on Monday, February 12, 2007, a day before ACHA's Lobby Day in Washington DC, at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Since the location was switched from my abdomin to my left-side chest area [the original wires are blocked by scarring from the 2003 surgery, causing the old pacemaker/battery to work harder/longer], I stayed overnight. They put the new pacemaker in my chest ... and then decided to take me to the OR to remove the old pacemaker, since it was under the muscle tissue. Luckily, I do not remember waking up with the breathing tube down my throat this time. I made it home safely, thanks to Mom and Dad, on Tuesday, despite Chicag…

Hey y'all. I just got out of the theater after seeing Ghost Rider. I have to say that the movie was definitely worth the money I laid down for it. Followed the comic series quite well and really was cast pretty well. I can't really go into the whole story of the Ghost Rider without giving away parts of the movie. All I have to say is that its worth it and really good. I enjoyed the world out of it (then again, that might have also been becuase it was just ME that went to the theater, no family attached). There were also the previews for Fantastic 4 II: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Spidey 3, both of which looked pretty good indeed. Anyway, has anyone else seen it…

I don't mean it in any disrepect to the US but I don't have to go down to Detroit anymore for college!!!! I am very pleased as it was going to cost a fortune. I just found out that Humber College in Toronto is the first school in Canada to offer Automotive Design. This is great so I can stay at home and drive down everyday. This school will also be cheaper to get into, don't need to pay for residence, and it is all in Canada within 45 minutes from me now. Now this is only bad for me in the aspect that: I probably won't be getting another car until I can save up for a relatively new commuter and I will have to commute everyday even in our nasty winters.

Well, the wife called about 45 minutes ago to let me know that the AURA was struck by ice flying off a tractor-trailer on her way into work this morning on I-295 North. She wasn't able to swerve into a different lane, but was able to brake without being rear-ended. The damage? The front bumper is heavily damaged, as it took the brunt of the force. She drove over the ice, so I'm hoping nothing underneath is damaged. She didn't stop and check the car out, rather she drove the rest of the way to work, said nothing seemed wrong with the car. When she got out though she noticed the damge to the bumper. I'm glad she's okay and that the ice didn't hit the hood/windshield,…

Been on that other forum (GMOutsidenews) and it sucks big time. Moderators only want post they approve of, so I have pulled up stakes and moved here. Ahhhh the breath of freedom and way nicer people here too. Just thought you should all know what a good thing you have here! No censorship, no one trying to put words in your mouth, no name calling, no personal attacks. Just cars, and people who enjoy cars. No one who is 13 years old, trying to discuss the finer points of 1960's muscle cars. My hat's off to you all!

The Gatorade Duel 150's the races that determine starting positions 3-43 for the Daytona 500 today were won by two Chevy drivers. Tony Stewart visited victory lane for the second time during speedweeks winning the first 150 mile heat race. Jeff Gordon won the second 150 miler on a last lap pass of Kurt Busch. However Gordon's car failed post race inspection when NASCAR officials said the car was about an inch too low, instead of starting Sunday's race from the 4th position he will line up 42nd. Michael Waltrip was allowed to run the qualifying race and he will be in the Daytona 500. Team Toyota Red Bull with drivers Brian Vickers and A.J. Allmindinger did not make the Day…

Detroit Free Press DCX: No option is off the table February 14, 2007 While promising to address Chrysler Group’s losses and make it a healthier unit, parent company DaimlerChrysler AG vowed that no options would be ruled out. The statement was made in response to a report out of Handelsblatt, one of Germany’s leading business publications, said Chrysler Group spokesman Mike Aberlich. Advertisement Some German shareholders have demanded that DaimlerChrysler sell the Auburn Hills-based unit, though most U.S.-based industry analysts dismiss the idea as turning away opportunities for further cost-savings. “Now for the Chrysler Group: The tough competition and the adve…

All right y'all. I've gotta lay something out here. I was out and about tonight without the wife or the little girl (they were at wife' dance practice). I'm cruising around in the Impala, watching it storm (tornado warning, golf ball sized hail, etc), and thinking of dinner. I get to a local chinese restaurant and there are four guys standing around in the parking lot, I pay them no huge amount of attention, go in, eat and come out. Get back to my car, they come over and start giving me the evil eye. I'm normally not one to have a horribly short temper, but today wasn't a good day at work, so I wasn't in the best of moods. Anyway, back to the subject at hand, as th…

Friday was my first day working at the Simoniz (Wash Depot inc.) car wash and detail center in Nashua NH, and boy, I've never seen so many dumb people in my life. For you to understand these first few stories, you have to be able to visualize how the car wash, or at least the track system, works. fairly self explanitory, the person drives their car up (with us guiding them) so the drivers side wheel is in the track between the guard rail, then when we hit the "program" button on the computer, one of the orange roller things pops up and pushes the car through the carwash. First, I cannot believe how many people wind up driving ON or OVER the guardrail thing. Not lik…
