Case in point: Ford is using aluminum in the next-generation F-150, and General Motors is reportedly doing the same for their next full-size truck. What about Ram Trucks? The past few years have seen truck manufacturers engage in a war of fuel economy numbers. Using new engines and fuel saving technologies, manufacturers are using fuel economy as a big selling point. Speaking with Automotive News, Ram brand director Bob Hegbloom says there is a big prize that all truck companies are aiming for: 30 MPG. Some new spy shots have caught a Ram 1500 single-cab with an odd thing. On this truck, the rear fender happens to be covered with soot, leading us to believe this happens to be a diesel 1500. Left Lane News speculates that under the hood lies a version of the Italian-built VM Motori 3.0L diesel V6 that will power the 2013/2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Ram will be getting Chrysler's 3.6L Pentastar V6 producing 280 HP. This will replace the current 3.7L V6 producing 210 HP. Also, the Ram will get a new eight-speed transmission.
