We know that Ram is getting a version of the Fiat Doblo in the coming future, as a panel van. But that leaves a gaping hole in the lineup for a passenger version. Well that could be changing. Automotive News is reporting the Ram team is thinking about adding a passenger van version of the Doblo. "We are studying that as a possibility. It could have passenger car applications," said Fred Diaz, President of the Ram brand. The Doblo arrives onto Ram dealers in 2013. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required) View full article

Ram could be going down the same road as GM and Ford with their midsize pickup trucks. Originally, Ram was going engineer and develop the Dakota for North America by Chrysler’s engineering staff. However, when Fiat assumed control of the automaker in 2009, plans changed. "It is something that we are evaluating. As a global organization, we are now starting to look at what can we bring to the market that would actually work in Europe, in Asia, in the U.S., in Mexico, and so forth, and get the platform right so that we can enjoy the economies of scale that come with that," said Ram CEO Fred Diaz Chrysler is still trying to figure out what the next Dakota will become. Chrysler Ending Dakota Production Tomorrow August 22, 2011 - Drew Dowdell - CheersandGears.com Chrysler will end production of the Ram/Dodge Dakota on August 23, 2011 which will cause layoffs at the Warren Truck Assembly in Warren Michigan. Some workers will be re-deployed to other plants. The Dakota currently shares a production line with the Ram 1500 pickup. In 2010, Chrysler sold just around 13,000 of the mid-sized pickup, down substantially from the 177,000 sold 10 years prior. The Dakota shared components and the platform with the 2005 Dodge Durango. That vehicle has since moved on to a redesigned CUV platform shared with the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, leaving …

Dodge's smaller pickup came out and was an instant hit with people who wanted something a little bigger than a "compact". With V6 and V8 engines, it straddled the market and found its niche. An MCE of the first-gen built the momentum, and with the second-gen truck, Dodge really hit its stride. I still see so many of the second-gen trucks around, especially the right-sized regular cab 4X4 with big tires. Then by the time the current-gen truck came around, they completely lost their mojo... amazing after the sweet second-gen. Boxy, thirsty and with a monolithically cheap interior and no regular cab, buyers dried up almost immediately, and with good reason. And next up…

Ram Goes on a Rampage at Windsor by black-knight, C&G Editor/Reporter 19th, May, 2011 Well, it seems the Pentastar folks now know what they're going to do to appeal to truck buyers who aren't macho enough to wander into a Ram showroom and buy the infamous Hemi-powered, semi-Kenworth, Chuck Norris-mobile. Speculation on what would finally replace the Dakota in the Ram line-up has ranged in recent years from something rear-wheel drive and body-on-frame to something probably front-drive and based on the bones of a Dodge Caravan. As it turns out, the latter is correct according to an article that surfaced over at Wheels.ca. According to the Wheels article, "Bo…

Chrysler Issues Recall For 2009, 2010 Dodge Ram Pickups Chrysler has announced a recall of certain Dodge Ram trucks from the 2009 and 2010 model years. According to a bulletin issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of those vehicles may have flawed braking systems, which could increase the possibility of an accident -- not just for Ram drivers, but also for the people behind them. The flaw in question affects only diesel models with the hydroboost braking system. As per the NHTSA bulletin, those units "may be equipped with a power steering reservoir cap with excessive vent pressure levels that may result in brake pedals that are slow to ret…

Filed under: Truck, Chrysler, Dodge Chrysler is apparently still trying to iron out some of the kinks in its new pickup naming structure. The company recently decided to separate its popular line of pickups from the rest of the Dodge fleet by putting them under the Ram banner. The only problem is not every vehicle in the Pentastar pickup family has a history of boasting a billy goat on the hood. Example? Look no further than the successor to the Dakota throne. According to PickupTrucks.com, Chrysler is currently struggling to find a suitable nomenclature for the mid-size pickup. So far, an early front runner is the Ram 100, though going with that system may mean that …

Chrysler aims bonus cash incentive at Ram buyers Alisa Priddle / The Detroit News Chrysler Group LLC's new November incentives are directed at the Ram truck buyer. After two months the automaker is ceasing the "Ram 60-day Handshake" program that allowed customers to return their pickup if they were not satisfied. The program drew a lot of showroom traffic, but most truck buyers opted for attractive financing rates instead of the money-back guarantee, said spokesman Ralph Kisiel. New this month is an Engine Bonus Cash program for 2010 and 2011 model-year Ram 1500 Regular, Quad and Crew Cab models; Ram Heavy Duty trucks, and Ram Chassis Cabs. Trucks with a V-6 engine a…

2011 Ram Laramie is the Truck of Texas--With Benefits? Source: AllPickupTrucks.com The 2011 Ram Laramie Longhorn has been named the Truck of Texas. The Ram--you knew it last year as the Dodge Ram--earned the title by winning the most votes from the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA), which picks the truck it likes best after a two-day truck rodeo. Some 40 journalists evaluate the candidates on- and off-road, and rank vehicles on a range of factors from styling, to utility, to value, and efficiency. The new Ram Laramie Longhorn is the most luxurious truck ever offered by Chrysler, with big polished wheels, boot-stitched hides on almost every cabin surface, and lots …

2010 Dodge Ram recalled over incorrectly printed labels by Jeff Glucker (RSS feed) on Oct 15th 2010 at 5:40PM Owners of 2010 Dodge Ram and Ram HD pickups are being asked to head to their nearest dealership. The trucks are part of a recall focusing on a label printed with incorrect information. For some vehicles, the tire-pressure label lists incorrect weight or seating capacity information. If the inaccurate information on the labels is followed, it could lead to safety issues as a result of improperly loaded trucks. New labels will be installed free of charge at your nearest Dodge dealership. The recall is scheduled to begin this month (October 2010). For more informa…

LIVE IMAGES: RAM'S GUN-TOTIN' OUTDOORSMAN LIVE IMAGESOFFICIAL IMAGES By Andrew Ganz Recognizing that many pickup drivers are avid sportsmen and women, Chrysler's Ram division created a special trim level aimed at hunters and fisherman that, among other things, includes an available "holster" capable of holding shotguns and fishing poles. We got our first look at the Ram Outdoorsman yesterday at the State Fair of Texas - complete with (fake) guns and all. "We asked Ram Truck customers - boaters, campers, fishing enthusiasts and hunters - what features would they like to see in a truck," said Fred Diaz, president and CEO of the Ram Truck brand. "They answered 'more cap…

Ram shakes up its pickup lineup for 2011 03:43 PM CAPTIONBy Bill Delaney, Chrysler Chrysler was making enough news yesterday about the redo of its car line, including renaming the Sebring as the 200, that Ram trucks got a little lost of the mix. Well, that lineup is getting shaken up as well. Our friends at PickupTrucks.com took a look and found there some pretty significant changes in Ram, formerly Dodge Ram but now a stand-alone brand. The Ram 1500, for instance, now gets an active on-demand transfer case, offering better torque transfer in slick conditions. It also gets an increase in gross combined weight rating and four new exterior colors. They include Hunter G…

Spy Shots: 2011 Ram 1500 Hybrid uncloaked by Frank Filipponio (RSS feed) on Aug 28th 2010 at 1:29PM 2011 Ram 1500 Hybrid captured by Rich Truesdell of Automotive Traveler While recently shooting some cloaked Chrysler and Hyundai prototypes, Automotive Traveler's Rich Truesdell came across several completely undisguised Ram 1500 pickups the other day. As Rich tells it: Upon closer examination, I figured out why: They are near-production-ready versions of the rumored 2-Mode Hybrid version. Judging by the complete lack of cloaking, I'd assume they are undergoing final validation, possibly to establish their published tow ratings. Don't be surprised if the Ram is an early…
