William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 11, 2013 The Toyota GT86/Scion FR-S could get be getting a big and small brother in the near future. Speaking with Car Advice, FR-S chief engineer Tatsuya Tada said, “Akio Toyoda always says to me, Toyota sports car [family] should be three sports car brothers. 86 is in the middle.” What are these two sports cars? We know the big brother will be the resurrection of Supra. The small brother will be sub-GT86 model. When asked about names for this new small model, Tada said its far too early for that. Possibly the most interesting bit of information from Car Advice's story is Tada saying that the new sports cars m…

Hail to the chief, thanks to Toyota Sharon Terlep / The Detroit News Link to Original Article @ DetNews.com This speech by President Bush -- who is fond of telling the Big Three to suck it up and build relevant vehicles -- is brought to you by Toyota Motor Corp. No kidding, Bush's speech to the National Association of Manufacturers Thursday in Washington was sponsored by four major manufacturers, including Toyota. "Toyota is a good corporate citizen and they want the world to know it," explained Hank Cox, vice president of media relations at NAM. The four companies' logos were prominently displayed on a billboard outside the ballroom. At least Bush referred to NAM's …

See for yourself: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=TM&t=3m Toyota stock was at $124 at the beginning of May, now it's fallen to below $99 and not very long ago fell all the way to $97. I realize that it's still above it's 52-week low, but if GM stock tumbled from $124 to $97 in less than three months, I think we'd have more than a couple articles about it.

If you would have asked me 15 years ago if Darrell Waltrip's signature would adorn the side of a Toyota truck, I would have laughed. And today I still laugh, and then cry for the shell of a sport that NASCAR has become. I can only pray that GM is the domestic manufacturer pulling out of the craptacular crapfest known as NASCAR. (and this from someone who has grown up with NASCAR, and now say RIP 2006) Can't wait 'till the DW edition of the Camry next year! http://www.toyota.com/tundra/dw.html

AP article Jan. 29, 2010 04:13 PM Associated Press Toyota executives have been virtually silent amid a recall of millions of their cars because gas pedals can become dangerously stuck. For their customers, oh, what a feeling - fear, frustration, confusion and anger. Since Tuesday, when the Japanese automaker said it would stop making and selling some of its top-selling models, the company has had few answers for dealers and drivers - most notably when Toyota owners could get their cars fixed and hit the road without worrying. "I'm stuck with this car," said Tony Raasch of Hales Corners, Wis., who said he hit another driver in his 2010 Corolla two weeks ago when the c…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 15, 2013 After revealing the exterior and interior last week, Lexus provided more information on the IS today at the Detroit Auto Show. The IS will come with two different engines; a 2.5L V6 (IS 250) and 3.5L V6 (IS 350). Lexus hasn't released any performance figures, but has said that the 2.5L will come with a six-speed automatic and the 3.5L will have an eight-speed. There is also a new hybrid model, but that will be for the time being for Europe and Japan. Under the skin, the new IS features a multi-link rear-suspension design and steering from the larger GS. Rigidity has also been improved by the use new…

Lexus to launch compact in Europe, targeting 1 Series and A3 Posted Oct 20th 2008 2:02PM Link to Autoblog Europeans will get another premium compact car not bound for U.S. shores and this time it comes courtesy of Lexus. The automaker is targeting the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3, vehicles that its rivals have offered in the United States market. Lexus, though, only plans the vehicle for markets outside the U.S. where sales of smaller cars outpace their larger siblings. Apparently, Lexus has set a goal to sell 150,000 vehicles in Europe by 2015 and believes the new model is necessary to meet that number. At this point, we have no idea what platform the compact car would …

Scion Contemplates New Segments Scion will step up its efforts to attract young customers, with products in additional segments and a streamlined purchasing process, reports Scion Corporate Manager Steve Haag. Haag refused to name which segments Scion is considering, but he acknowledged the company's intentions to expand its product range. "It is the only thing that makes sense," he said. "Youth want lots of different products." But considering young buyers' price sensitivity, segments such as high-performance sports cars are off-limits, Haag added. Scion is also examining Toyota's line of Daihatsu-developed home-market microcars for possible importation to the U.S. "D…

Okay, I'm normally not the one impressed by Lexus, but I just found out about the GS350 through an US Open ad, and I'm definitely impressed. You have to give kudos to Lexus for their relentless pursuit of leading the segment, even if their attempts fail in the eyes of experts. They're almost like the desperate fat kid in school who will try anything to become respected, like offer more horsepower, more room, or more technology than anyone else. Lexus is an overacheiver and you have to respect them for that... Anyway, the point I was making is that they'll do anything, even if it means cannabalizing some of their older products. The $44K GS350 has 303 horses, or 13 more t…

You are a journalist, your boss just told you they want you to write an article fast on all the Toyota problems within the last week and month and it being a possible sign of toyota quality and their empire slipping. Meanwhile, sex scandals and employee mistreatment tales can be told. The company is now chasing even more profits from big SUV's with the new Tundra coming out despite trying to appear green with the Prius. They have been beat to the punch on ethanol and bio fuels. Create the headline for your story that would best tell the road Toyota appears to be headed upon and the mess they are now in.

The link to the original story is HERE I saw the other thread talking about the media bias in FAVOR of Toyota. I'm wondering if folks think this story is more neutral or perhaps even biased toward Detroit? Personally, I didn't think the other story was that biased, though there were some pretty stupid comments in it. I read this article this morning and thought it was pretty fair and closer to how the Big 3 would be treated if they had similar issues (though still not as bad). What do you think?

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 10, 2012 The Scion FR-S marks a return for Toyota of building a sporty RWD coupe, and it might not be the only one. Top Gear Philippines had the chance to sit down with Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer for the FR-S and other members (Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ). Tada revealed that the FR-S was the first of three new sports cars being worked on by Toyota. "The first is more mass-market and cheaper than the 86. And the third is more upmarket than the 86," Tada said. When asked if the third vehicle is the successor the Supra, Tada said it could possibly be but that nothing is sure at the moment. The LS's Perfection Pursuit Slower Than Expected It's just a blurb, so I'll post the whole thing: The Lexus LS 460 fell short of its claimed 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds in a road test in the latest issue of Car and Driver magazine. The C&D testers couldn't get the car to complete the sprint in any less than 6.0 seconds. Braking distances were also unusually long. The car took 209 feet to come to a stop from 70 mph, the magazine said. That's nearly the same as the GMC Seirra's 210 foot braking distance. The new Mercedes S-Class, by comparison, takes 172 feet to stop from the same speed. Read "Lexus LS 460 performance numbers disappoint" @ Leftlane News

Toyota corporation is made up of two divisions for the most part, Toyota, their mainstream brand and Lexus their luxury arm. The IS Coupe is expected to carry many of the design elements and cues seen on the LF-CC. Powertrains are likely to be similar to the sedan; 2.5L and 3.5L V6 engines. Also in the cards is a next-generation IS-F. Much like the last IS-F, the new model would use a V8 engine. No word on a possible release date. Source: What Car? William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 16, 2012 Two words you wouldn’t think that would go together are Toyota and excitement. But there was time when Toyota meant excitement; cars like the Celica, Supra, and MR2 cemented the brand as building some of best sports cars before hanging it up and building appliances. However, the tide at Toyota seems to be changing. The RWD GT86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ coupes are beginning to roll out, and Toyota is introducing a new development and manufacturing framework designed to aid in producing more exciting vehicles. "The feeling at the time was, 'If we build it, they will come. Instead of developing what customer…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 5, 2013 Auto Express has learned that Lexus will unveil a new compact crossover at the Geneva Motor Show next March. This new model will be heavily influenced by the LF-NX concept shown at the Frankfurt and Toyko Motor Shows. The production version will likely be toned down, but expect the sharp lines to stay. Powertrains will include a hybrid that uses a 2.5L four-cylinder engine, and a new 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Interesting thing about these two engines is that both were shown in the LF-NX concept. Auto Express says the new compact crossover will go on sale next summer. We'll keep a close ey…

Will have “more room than a BMW X5, be faster than a (Volkswagen) TDI and have higher mpg than a Fiat 500.” The answer, well it could be one of two things; a new model Toyota is working on or the new Avalon. What? The Avalon? Yes, and here’s how. To have more room than a BMW X5, the vehicle would need an interior volume greater than 102.4-cubic feet. To beat a Volkswagen TDI, the vehicle would need to produce more than 140 HP and 235 lb-ft of torque. To best a Fiat 500 in mil…

And as with all other Scions, the FR-S will come with a range of parts and accessories. The FR-S arrives onto dealers next spring. The upcoming Toyota Supra is considered to be one of the most highly anticipated vehicles to come out. It has also garnered a fair amount rumors, partly due to it sharing some bits with the next BMW Z4. But some leaked internal documents may dampen some of that anticipation. A member on the Supra MKV forums obtained a BMW model code document listing out the various combinations for the upcoming Supra and Z4, along with which market they will appear on. For the Toyota, the document shows that it will be offered with the 30i and 40i engines. This likely means the Supra will get BMW's 2.0L turbo-four (248 horsepower) and 3.0L turbocharged inline-six (335 horsepower). In…

There has been one request that Lexus dealers have been asking for the past few years. "Third-row seating is the No. 1 issue we hear from dealers. We feel like we're missing a 35,000-units-a-year opportunity. We're working hard to rectify that," said Lexus Division chief Jeff Bracken to Automotive News. "We could bring it to market in 2016 or 2017. If we can get it, that's the priority. We won't be bothered if it steps on RX. We want it." So how does Lexus plan on pulling this off? There appears to be two options on table. The first is making RX bigger. The current Toyota Highlander currently follows this idea with extending the body three inches to fit a third row. How…

With the increasing strength of Yen, Japanese automakers are finding it harder to make a profit on vehicles built in Japan. The situation is becoming so bad, that Toyota is thinking about making a drastic change; move Lexus production. Fortune reports that Toyota CEO, Akio Toyoda wants more compact Toyota models, the least profitable models in its lineup to be produced outside of Japan. Toyoda acknowledges that Lexus models may follow. But where would they head to? Most likely to the US where most of Lexus models are sold. However, there is a problem. Lexus’ U.S. chief Mark Templin said Toyota's "pride," which stems from manufacturing its most prestigious models in its…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 27, 2012 Autocar is reporting that Lexus is mulling over a production version of the LF-LC shown at the North American International Auto Show. Karl Schlicht, head of Lexus product planning told the magazine that he gives a 50/50 chance to a production model. “A decision has not been taken. But we’re now up to a 50 per cent chance from a zero per cent one. Every top Toyota Motor Company manager is aware of the great reception it has received and now we’re talking about how we can do it and fit it into the product plan.” Originally, company executives said again and again, the LF-LC was strictly a concept. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 6, 2012 Lexus decided that the Geneva Motor Show was the best place to unveil the refreshed RX crossover. As we saw in pictures leaked back in February, the RX gains the "spindle grille" as seen on the GS and a strip of LED lights running around the headlights. The back end gets some new design tweaks. Inside, the RX is pretty much the same except for a redesigned steering wheel. The RX also gets an updated version of the Remote Touch interface that should make the infotainment system more intuitive. Engines are a carryover from the previous model. The RX350 sticks with the 3.5L V6 producing 270 HP and a six-s…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 1, 2013 For the past eleven years, the Toyota Camry has been best-selling car in America. But its title is being threaten by models like the Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion, and Honda Accord. However, Toyota isn't ready to give up the crown so easily. Toyota has been increasing incentives on the Camry over the past few months. Earlier this year, Toyota was putting $2,300 on the Camry. Now, that number h…

WASHINGTON – Complaints of sudden acceleration in Toyotas repaired under recalls have nearly doubled in the past two weeks, according to an Associated Press analysis of government data. The complaints from 105 drivers raise questions about whether Toyota's repairs will prevent the cars from speeding up on their own or if there is another reason for the problem. Toyota has said it is confident in its repairs and has found no evidence of other problems, such as faulty electronics. The automaker did not immediately comment Wednesday on the latest complaints. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it was contacting owners who have complained about their re…

Tada also revealed that Toyota is considering doing a high performance model. “We are already working on a mid-life facelift for the car, and we are investigating both turbocharging and supercharging too. Along with the polls above, lets speculate on 'who gets Toyota's lost market share? .... and, how much (what percent) of market share do they lose? For example, if their share of the market currently is 16% and you think their share will go down to 14%, then they will lose 2% of market share. For percent, assume the period of time is all of calendar year 2010.

I am not afraid of my Toyota Prius I’ve been driving Toyota Priuses since 2001. As a junior defense lawyer in the mid-90s, I litigated a number of bogus sudden acceleration cases that were brought against General Motors. So the recent kerfuffle over alleged mysterious electronic problems with the Prius and other Toyotas has certainly caught my attention beyond just throwing my floor mat in the trunk. I knew the public hysteria had reached unprecedented proportions when my father, a Ph.D. geologist skeptical of everything from George W. Bush to global warming (and that’s just the G’s), credulously emailed me repeatedly to demand I read a press release from a plaintiff’…

Unsurprisingly, various Chinese automotive news websites have leaked out images of the new 2013 Lexus ES today, ahead of its scheduled reveal at the Beijing Auto Show this April. It’s also unsurprising that the story hasn’t changed with Lexus’s Camry-based front-wheel drive sedan — it’s still the most expensive shade of beige money can buy. The changes from 2012 Camry to 2013 ES mostly include exterior styling that’s pretty much the same as what you get with any other Lexus (IS greenhouse, the recent GS's Predator-like front fascia, and LS taillights) and an interior that looks as if someone broke into BMW’s design studio late one night just to dig sketches out of a comp…

Highway Bribery Toyota Joins The Discount Fray Tom Van Riper, 10.03.08, 3:32 PM ET Forbes.com Link to article You know the outlook is bleak for the auto industry when Toyota jumps into the inventory clearance game that Detroit has monopolized for the past couple of years. Industry analysts harped on the reputations of Toyota and, to a lesser degree, its Japanese counterparts Honda and Nissan, for reliability and fuel efficiency. Consumers didn't need big i…
