Im so confused on which midsize pickup to get. I test drove the dakota, tacoma, frontier, and canyon. I like them all. This is a very tough decision. I did a quick run down on what I think of these trucks. Toyota Tacoma Highs: Nice Interior, decent stock sound system, high resale value Lows: ugly exterior Nissan Frontier Highs: 265HP V6, sporty looking Lows: Interior isnt all that great, transmission didnt feel right to me Dodge Dakota Highs: Good looking, nice size Lows: V8 isnt to powerful, V6 is weak, heavy GMC Canyon Highs: Smooth Ride, 5 cylinder engine, off road rugged looks Lows: Price, 4speed auto, resale value sucks My heart tells me to…

I took a drive east up the Lake Erie coast towards the PA line, visiting a couple wineries and a couple of my favorite beaches..beautiful and sunny, but too hot (85). There was a VW cruise-in show in Geneva-on-the-Lake, saw dozens of vintage Beetles, buses, modern GTIs, etc in stock and restomod forms....maybe my favorite car of the day, though was a very clean gray w/ no vinyl top '71 Buick Electra 225 4dr ht. It needed whitewalls and some interior work, but appeared rust free. Another favorite was a bright red w/ matching steel wheels '72 Chevy Bel Air 4dr sedan..very clean, appeared rust free also. Saw a white '64 Ford Fairlane 2dr ht parked in a driveway, a dar…

Well... here's the replacement for the Blazer. It's a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire GT. Not what I wanted them to get, but it's not bad. That 2002 Alero was alot nicer, but they waited too long and someone else bought it. It has about 83k miles and it has a 5spd. The interior really reminds me how much nicer the Alero was... Either way, it's a good car. It's basically spotless, but has a few minor problems.

Hey guys, I just got informed that my parents are car shopping. I guess I should inform you of my parent's vehicle buying habits, the first car I remember them having is a 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity station wagon, they bought it brand new and drove it until April of 1997 when they bought their 1997 Buick Century, they kept it till June 2005 when mom got the itch for a truck. So they traded in the Buick and bought a 2005 S-10 crew cab ZR-5. Well its 2008 and dad is wider than he used to be, and mom's knee can't really take climbing in and out of the truck like she used to, so they're hunting for something new. Right now they have their sights set on a Buick LaCrosse, it…

Not to start a riot or anything but I've kinda always wondered this. Have you known it to upset a Jewish person to see the Nazi flag? Only reason I ask is because in my town, quite a few people wave around the Confederate flag (MD's kinda Northerly to me, go figure) and lots of people I know get pissed off when they see it. It annoys me but never gets me angry. It's kinda like a flag of a failed nation to me, and I can get over the negative connotations. I mean, the oppression is sad and stuff, but if it's a sign of the culture that some southern people still hold dear, it's OK to me and I actually respect it. So what about Jewish people? Since not a lot of German …

Well, I sold my Mustang Cobra on Monday, and picked up my new 81 Malibu today :-) Because of rain (And going to dinner with my girlfriend and her family), I wasn't able to start detailing it today, but I'm waking up REAL early tomorrow to get as much done as possible before going with Silvester to look at a car he might be buying :-P Just thought I'd share pics.... its a 229 v6 with 71,000 origional miles, painted a year or so ago, body is SOLID, no rot or any real rust ANYWHERE, and the thing runs and drives like a champ! Plans for now are to freshen up the interior, clean up the engine bay, and pretty much leave it stock until a year or two from now when I'd love to d…

Alright, so over the last few months, there's been a lot of crazy ghost-like action going on in my house.. so I'll tell you what's going on with this ghost of "me" (my mom and sister claim that it looks just like me). Be ready to read.. here are the instances it's been seen: When I went back to school like 2 terms ago a bunch of crazy stuff started happening in my room at home.. the alarm clock I haven't used in like 10 years started going off, some collectible Coke can on my counter got a pin size hole in the side and leaked all over my room, I don't know what else My mom saw "me" come into her room in the middle of the night a couple months back wearing the exact s…

I want everyone to sound off here, but this post is inspired by the fact that the Chevelle name will not work in this millenium. Leave it in the 60s and 70s, where it belongs.... That goes for Bel Air as well....kinda flighty for a Chevy, not to mention the fact that it screams 50s. And there should be no more Broughams or Landaus either. At Nissan, I think the Sentra name should die with this current generation...I'd switch to Pulsar, a name that's a lot racier. Out in Japan, I'd kill their trend of getting too Japanese with the names like Fuga and Tiida...I didn't see anything wrong with Laurel, Cedric, or Gloria (even though that name belongs to Pr…

While I was out working today, Arkus pulled his Houdini act and got out of his crate. There was a terrible dogfight, and now I have two injured dogs. Zora really got the worst of it. Now I have to decide which one will be leaving, and figure out how the hell I'm going to make that happen. F'ing hell!

I'm guessing I'm one of the oldest people here... Maybe this ought to be posted in the trivia threads, but here are some clues as to my age: I was born when Eisenhower was president. The DeSoto Adventurer engine was newly available across all DeSoto model lines the year I was born.

What is this? So... I'm trying to end the seemingly never ending saga of what is causing my Milly's engine to miss. We've been unable to really find anything wrong with it that would cause that. Yesterday, it suddenly got worse, where it actually stalled on me twice, while moving at that. It's never done that before. It still seems like its something with intake or one of the sensors. I noticed that upon shutting the engine off, it sounded like there was a vacuum effect. I had my dad listen for it to try to find where it came from. Seems that it's the air box. My dad messed around with it... Well, anyways, to finish, my dad thinks the problem could be that thing, w…

We all know how kids are. They anxiously await that first taste of freedom that comes with a driver's license, but a lot of them just aren't ready for driving life. Which car do you nominate as C&G's Best First Car, 2006? I nominate the 1973 Chevy Impala four door hardtop with a transplanted 2.5L Iron Duke engine, 3 on the tree transmission, and no power steering or brakes. That should keep 'em out of trouble while learning to drive in a most basic way. I truly believe everyone should know how to drive a manual transmission, and we should all know how to handle a vehicle with no power steering or brakes. Everything else would be cake, and ya never know when you'…

That's UNIVERSITY to the Canadians on the board... Yeah, yeah, I know you know. Sidebar: I worked with a jerk who said that I would like working with a particular person at a client company because "he's college, like you" (meaning me, in this case). I don't know, but it's like getting my G6 is just more trouble than ever. First it was my Cavalier, then money issues, and now insurance. First, GMAC wanted a co-lessee. I found one, and now the insurance company wants me to insure my co-lessee as well. Now my co-lessee feels puzzled that I might harm his driving record, and by the sound of things, he seems to want to back out, leaving me in the cold. Sort of understand what my co-lessee is worried about. I heard is that in the event that if the car has an accident, ALL insured drivers on that car will be considered having an accident on their record. Fly's post about the 1959 Ford Skyliner insipred this: As much as I do not like the 1959 Fords, I love most any other 1959 domestic. First & forermost the entire GM lineup including the Opel-Buicks. I would rate the GM stuff like this in order of favorites: Buick Cadillac Pontiac Chevrolet Oldsmobile (GMC/Chevy trucks fall somewhere in between Pontiac & Olds) But after that, the next best thing is a 1959 Imperial, which is about as easy to find as a polite Frenchman in Paris if you're wearing an American flag on your baseball cap. Back to reality, a 1959 Dodge 2 door hardtop of any kind is a great thing to aspire to without having your head up in …

I'm thinking about putting vanity plates on my Camaros ('68 SS & '73 Z28/RS) but I can't think of anything really cool. Anybody have any ideas? EDIT: Basic specs: The '68 is a 350 4-speed car that is/will be more of a "classic" cruiser. The '73 houses a 406 with a Turbo350 transmission and is/will be more of a "custom" car. Neither will be too wild though, the plates will be NC plates which means 8 letters or less. A few pics:

So our 1999 Suburban isn't going to work for us, for different reasons. With that, I've told my wife it's going up for sale, and her next vehicle HAS to be under warranty. Here is our dilemma. The vehicle must carry 4 kids and 2 adults comfortably for long road trips, be able to accommodate a stroller behind the 3rd seat with a few bags of groceries, be under warranty for at least 12,000 to 15,000 miles, have the typical equipment (A/C, PW, PL, Cruise, etc) and cost under $18,000. GM's options; CSVs - Ugly, nice interior, decent ride, but just ugly Rendezvous – Just not enough space behind the 3rd row Trailblazer EXT / Envoy EXT – Just a little bit too exp…

I would like to first say that it is not GM's fault that Buicks' sales are down. How do yoou exepect to sell 2 cars and a suv. In the meantime Chevy has 8 cars. Not only that but Buick has niche vehicle yet chevy has the camaro and the corvette. This reminds of Cinderella chevy goes out to the ball and has fun while buick is left to whiter away. Buick can be a great car company again if the stupid bean counters would stop this insane give everything to chevy and then rebadge buick. Buick need its distinct styling not just a new grill and trail lights and some changes to the interior. My last comment on this is for the people who are running GM should be removed and …

Mine- 2003(sedan) & 2004(coupe) Cavaliers....Both keepers. I'm running them both into the ground. They aren't worth much to sell anyways.......the 03 will become my beater when the wife gets a newer car, and the 04 becomes my (back to) school ride and track car. 2006 Cobalt-my current beater, looks like a keeper for now. Good acts are hard to follow. Especially in the auto business. Maybe more so in the auto business, actually. The steady march of technology is sometimes nullified by more stringent regulations, falling profits, a change in focus, and sometimes just as a result of straight up flubbing it. So with that in mind, I ask you what your dream garage would look like if you were only able to use today's cars' immediate predecessors. The rules- 1) Production models only. 2) These are your only vehicles. 3) Maximum of 5 choices. 4) Any variation of that previous model is allowed, even if the exact trim was not offered again. 5) Your choice …

Let's counter the other thread with the Jalopnik-sourced article for a second. In your opinion, what was one of the worst cars ever built that everyone seemed to buy in droves? I'm going to have to go with the Mustang II. Yeah, this and the Pinto are some of the most successful lamentable American cars that just about everyone loves to bash. But, honestly, they deserve it. First year 'Stang IIs didn't have a V8 option and came standard with a four-cylinder engine that made an oh-so-mighty 88 horsepower. Ford had to wind up scrambling to re-engineer the Mustang II to accept the 302 V8 for next year's model and, at that point, it only made 140 tired and weary horses …

Where to begin, well simply at the beginning, this trip had been planned for quite a while. We left Delaware and headed south on I-81 picking it up in West Virginia. Drove the 1st day to Knoxville, TN where my wife's sister lives and where the PCS 1st gave us trouble with the key locking or being grabbed by the ignition. Had AAA come and get the key out, on to Texas the next day. Always like to see those warning signs on I-10, for alligators. Stayed a few days at my mother's in Texas, we had a great visit with her. I seem to miss Texas a little more as time goes by. But wouldn't you know it the key issue reared it's ugly head again in Texas the night before we left, this …

What is the worst thing you've ever done to a car to make it workable? i.e. I don't have the money to fix it right, so out comes the duct tape. Worst for me wasn't my car, but I helped my buddy do it... He had a '96 Cavalier. The front section on the frames of the J-bodies are extremely weak. If you hit anything in the front, the whole front of the car will come back and the door will buckle the quarter panel the next time you open it (seen this a few times!). This was not what happened to him, however. This was even worse - 2 people got in a fight beside his car while the door was open, and one of them got pushed in to the inside of the door, pushin…

Going up to Lake Tahoe last weekend, I was able to marvel (for the umpteenth time) at its dramatic beauty. The fact that it could snow at a moment's notice and one would have to chain up put me in an "eh" mood. I was thinking: "there's no way I could live up here." Today, I was cleaning up and looking at post cards I collect. The common denominator: at least 95% of them are beach or port scenes. Besides, granolas and ex-hippies take refuge in mountain towns. They don't gravitate to the beach as readily. That being said, if I had to pick "beach" or "mountains" to hang my hat year round, it would be "beach." What about you?

As we sit here, a dedicated group of GM enthusiasts, blissfully waiting for the new Camaro among other great products, the curtain is being drawn on us. These new CAFE requirements are ever closer to reality, and they will kill any chance for auto enthusiasts to get what they want. Why hasn't anyone mentioned this? By ignoring this coming apocalypse, are we hoping it will go away and our lives will not change? This is a huge blow to so many things automotive we hold dear as Americans. By imposing these ridiculous standards on cars AND light trucks, they are forcing the car companies to kill pickup trucks with work capacity... cars with passenger capacity and any kin…

Had or heard any good ones lately? I was watching the Barrett-Jackson auction with a friend of mine. So here is what I'm thinking I might do for a project sometime in the future, hopefully the near future. 1996 Chevrolet Camaro, bad engine, $700. Then I take out the engine, transmission, etc., and drop in a diesel, preferably a Duramax from a wrecked Chevrolet or GMC HD truck (isn't there a six cylinder version used in commercial-grade trucks, too?). I wonder what sort of manual transmission would work with the Duramax, or if all of this would even fit in a Camaro? Hmmm ...

Alright, simply put, there are some words in Italian that have the same meaning in English when translated, but have a secondary subtle underlying meaning. There are a couple of instances I've been unable to find rules for. An example of what I mean: questione domanda Both mean: question. Questione is a question or a topic brought up for discussion/debate/argument. Domanda is simply a question in general. spedire mandare Both mean: to send. What's the difference? differente diverse Both mean: different. What's the difference? Weird thing is, I can use them properly and somehow know which one goes where. But I do not know the rules. It was finally a nice day here today, so I decided to tackle a couple of small projects. I am soon getting a new door on the front of my house installed by others. I also have a side entrance door out of my garage and I wanted it to match the new front door, so I painted it from dark blue to white, added a new lockset and deadbolt, and put up a new motion-sensing light fixture above it. It looks nice and I'm proud of myself, but it took me freakin' forever. So, how handy are you guys with a hammer?

Went to a local car show on Sunday and found this '70 El Camino SS for sale: Black interior with bucket seats, 396 c.i. V8 was under the hood, and a manual trans shifter was visible inside. PM me if you'd like the phone # (sorry, no price info was available at the show). And just for Camino, I spotted this beauty at a nearby dealership (Walt's Pontiac dealership fyi)... I think as you're getting up there in age ( ), you should forget the Ute and get yourself one of these: ... ... ... ... ... ... ... At your age, a nice, comfoy ride and shifting done for you may be the best bet. Just messin' with ya man!!!

I'm guessing probably not. In one of my psychology classes, we had a discussion on death yesterday, and took a quiz about how much we think/worry about death. The average is a 3 or 4, out of 15. I got an 11. Yeah. I rule. But then it got me thinking of how I wanted to die, and how I expected others to die as well. A few hypotheses: Sixty8: Don't want to give away too many details, but for a guy whose weekend hobbies include crashing cars into things, I assure you that it'll be the stuff of legend. FOG: Mysteriously vanished one night without a trace. The only thing the neighbors could say was that they saw a black Toyota Sienna with tinted windows driving th…

Well, in a couple of hours I'll be heading off to France for the month of June. I'm going through my university's study abroad program; I'll be staying with a host family in Rennes and living a more cultured life for a few weeks. I probably won't have Internet over there, so hopefully I don't miss anything major.

the new Dodge Challenger and how bad I want one....I haven't felt this way about a car in a long time....except for maybe when the Chrysler 300C came out...I love GM, but Chrysler has been releasing the type of cars I love...whether their execution is great or not is up for debate....but large RWD is my passion and GM sort of lacks that at least in a package I find appealing. I almost feel like I'm cheating on GM if I buy a Challenger, but I've been outside GM before, so I guess it wouldn't be the first time. But yet I wish it was a 2009 Oldsmobile 442 coming out. So am I nuts, or is it lust, or true love that I'm having for this Challenger?

How the big ones fall hard. Lehman one of the pinnacles of investment banking and dream for many young banker grads may probably cease existence after tonite. This may very well be a wake up call for the big riches to get some sense and stop playing with money of others. I feel sorry for the "foot soldier" employees who will lose their income. Never blame the soldier who fights on the battlefield because he is just taking orders from the chieftains. My dad who is back in India and has no knowledge of what is happening day to day in US gave a good historical evidence. He said that in 19th century before a presidential election (he does not recollect who was elected) …

I guess this is where I introduce myself? Hi, I'm Sam. :AH-HA_wink: I guess you wouldn't call me new, as I've been lurking for about a year. I like the atmosphere of this place. It is my 3rd most visited site too [after myspace , and carspyshots.net]. So yeah. I just wanted to make myself "official" in C&G Land. Edit: I forgot to mention my car. What a shwagon it is: Its a 1997 Mercury Sable Wagon. My first car. It feels good to have my own set of wheels. I am proud to say that I paid for it myself, which to me is a big acomplishment. Now I just need to figure out how to save enough money to pay for gas and insurance :AH-HA_wink:

I'm probably about to make two stupid moves before going into college, one of them being me buying a brand-new twenty-one thousand dollar Camaro. Well, chances are I'm going to make another stupid move on top of that. Meet the two cars that qualify for my second mistake. 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, 327 V8: 1967 Pontiac Firebird, 350 V8: The cost of both cars are $4,500. Both cars are roughly in the same shape: mild amounts of rust, the floorboards rotting away to nothing (as you can see in the second-to-last pics in both sets), but I know the Camaro's 327 runs pretty well and could make for a better daily driver during restoratio…

Sounds like he's trying to make a comeback after, what, 20 years? Would you listen to his new stuff? I definitely would. He's got a new one out with Akon that I really like. You can tell the hint of MJ rhythm in it and it works out really good. I love MJ's old stuff, too, so I'd definitely be a fan...

He's been suffering with terminal cancer for some time now and tomorrow the hospice care begins. It's going to be a rough time around here for a while and I may not be here so often. I have lots of things to get figured out and will need to be supporting my family in whatever way I can as things progress. I will update you when it makes sense to do so. I consider you folks my friends so I felt I had to post this.

Did you ever frequent a business not only because you like the service, or the food, etc., but because you have a little "thing" going with someone who works there? This evening before heading home, I stopped by a college hangout/pizza joint that I used to go to every few weeks, but hadn't been in about 4 months. Whenever I went in, I used to look for the pizza chef back at the brick oven (not a counter person). He always gave me a special smile and said hello, and I did likewise. Nothing more ever came of it. He's a tall, skinny Italian guy, and there's something intense about him. Anyway, since I hadn't been there in so long, I kind of forgot about him, until toni…

Alright guys I am in Phoenix at the auto show here with the Jeep exhibit and I had the day off today so I did some looking around and I brought my Kodak with me. First the Silverado..... Let me say, this car, um I mean truck, is awesome! With the new rack and pinion and the interior that is awesome in the LTZ and way more than expected in the LT, I feel like I'm driving an aura or maybe even a cadillac in it. It was so smooth and quiet! But... the plastic on the dashboard was pretty hard and the tan leather was kind of dirty, I know it is a demo vehicle, but the leather can be hard to clean, but it was high grade stuff. Power was great, even with the small V8. The 5.…

Not important part (background): So I took this class this semester called Conceptual Ideation. Basically it's all about how to come up with good original ideas for art (which I could use the help in). For our first project, the teacher asked us to do a "redux" of something we failed at in the past. I chose to revisit the Aveo redesign I submitted for a C&G sketch competition a few years ago, which was undeniably very, very bad. My aim is to design a subcompact car that is typically practical and economical, but looks like it can beat every other subcompact to a pulp. The teacher was encouraging me to make something as wild and futuristic as I could imagine, b…

Yeah so, I'm on vacation this week. I leave to go camping tomorrow and I bought a new tent that sets up in the truck bed. It got here fast, I ordered it Friday and it came on Saturday. So I put the truck in the backyard, took off the tonneau and did a test set-up. All the hype on the box said "20 minute setup!" Yahright. An hour later and I finally got the thing erected. The tent is made by a Canadian manufacturer, so the instructions were written in English... with a French accent. Oui? Non. Anyway... ha, I hope to look less like a retodd tomorrow at the campground setting this thing up.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...icleId=115853#2 This is the first 6-series I've seen in Alpine White, and it just looks amazing. The XK is even prettier, and it really grows on you the more you look. Even though Edmunds preferred the Bimmer, I'd take the Jag... just because it's purer and the fact it's not an "eighty-grand BMW".

OK, so how much per Kilowatt hr? Washington state which is 100% Hyrdo powered and they just built a couple of huge wind farms on the Columbia river so do not know how that factors in, but we have always had almost the cheapest electric cost in the nation. One reason the aluminum plants all came here. Our Home rate is 6.94 cents per Kilowatt hr. Only 2 other states are cheaper than us at 6.90 and 6.92. http://www.eia.gov/electricity/state/ Course on this Gov web site they show us as the cheapest in the nation. http://www.neo.ne.gov/statshtml/204.htm So what is your rate?

LAS VEGAS - Japanese electronics conglomerate Matsu$h!a Electric Industrial on Monday introduced a 150-inch plasma television, which it says is the world's biggest. The new TV boasts four times better resolution than full high-definition 1080p picture quality and offers a screen the size of nine 50-inch plasma televisions. It was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas by Toshihiro Sakamoto, president of Panasonic AVC Networks. Matsu$h!a's new screen, at 12-1/2 feet when measured diagonally, tops the Panasonic brand maker's 103-inch plasma TV released last year. The 103-inch television has sold 3,000 units over the la…

This is purposely vague, but I'm curious if anyone has ever talked to a couselor or therapist about anything? Did you find it helpful/useful? Was it worth your time? How did you go about finding someone you felt comfortable with? I'm not looking for anyone to give specifics. An answer in general terms would be appreciated.

Back when I was a kid, I thought it was cool and liked it. But since now I drive on my own, it's not that great of an idea actually if you think about it. When you're waiting in line, you're using your own gas when you keep your engine idle. And at busy hours, it can take long. Not to mention the greenhouse gas that you emit into the environment while you idle (Unless, of course, you're driving an EV1). With gas prices these days, I can imagine how much money I waste from idling in a drive-thru line. Also, another problem I figured is, if they gave you the wrong stuff or something's missing in your bag, you would have to run back and ask them. Double the worse, if you…

Last weekend, I drove my mom to Maryland in her car, a 2005 base model white Cobalt sedan with automatic. She got the spoiler, and she put American Racing rims on it with the factory tires. It's a pleasant looking little sedan, and I was duly impressed by the quiet, comfortable ride and the good gas mileage. After 2 hours behind the wheel, I emerged with no discomfort. The little 2.2L Ecotec pulls nicely. I have gone to Chevy's website and priced out an Imperial Blue 2LT coupe with chrome package, 5 speed manual, Pioneer stereo and leather wrapped wheel/redundant stereo controls. Nicely equipped without going whole hog, it would fit me. I've been feeling a bit …

Story Link By JIM IOVINO Updated 12:54 PM EDT, Thu, Jul 23, 2009 Erik Bonstrom considers himself a safe driver. So imagine his surprise when he was stopped along Route 50 Tuesday evening in Prince George's County, Md., -- for going too slow. "Coming back on Route 50, the speed limit is 55 and I was pulled over by a Maryland State trooper," Bonstrom said. "When I asked him why, he said I was going too slow and issued me an $80 ticket for going 58 in a 65." Bonstrom said he tried to reason with the trooper as passing cars whizzed by. "To me, you are punishing a safe driver and there are many cars that were passing me, and I guess it was just easier to pull me …
