There is a video on VVCARS.COM where it shows Chery's design studio. If you look closely at some parts, you can see a design of the Volkswagen Touareg. The other one shows the Mazda Kusabi clearly and if you look to the right of the designer's ear, you can see the Chevy SS. I can understand if this is for inspiration but Chinese cars have a bad history for copying other cars. To see this, go to the website and click on Factory. There will be a video and if you pause it, you can see some of them.

Being home from work today, I had a little time on my hands, so I made this PowerPoint graphic of the '86 Grand Prix 2+2. I will post a pic of the Z06 I did some time ago as well. Nice part about these being PPT graphics is that when you scale them, they stay looking good. Either I need to figure out how to make money doing silly stuff like this or find better things to do with my time.

If there's anything that really makes me mad, it's when some degenerate goes and kills a cop... Especially when the officer is RCMP. It's kinda sad that all of the ones that have been gunned down in recent years have been green, in their 30s, with wives and families. That is until some f-ed up degenerate takes him away from them. Just one such thing happened in Hay River, Northwest Territories the other day. Now a Canada wide search is getting started and the FBI and INTERPOL are getting involved. They'll get him. Today an Edmonton, AB neighbourhood was basically shut down trying to find this guy- another dead end. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...1011?hub=Ca…

This is kind of an odd question and I'm going to be a bit vague initially because I don't want to lead to a specific answer. About two years ago, my cholesterol level had gotten to the low end of what is considered borderline high, so my doctor recommended that I start taking a minimal dose of lipitor daily. I was very hesitant at first because I didn't like the idea of taking anything long term. After a long discussion with my doctor of the pros and cons I decided to go ahead and start taking it while I continued on my fitness program and watched my diet. It has worked out well so far. I take 10mg daily which is half of the smallest pill made. My cholesterol level…

First of all, I would have had Blake go home during the Bee Gee's week. Then, I'd have sent LaKisha home, leaving Jordin and Melinda going head-to-head in the finale. Who could have won between them, I would not care. Melinda has more experience and a larger vocal range than Jordin, although they both have incredible voices. Melinda might have had the better voice, though. Jordin has a younger presence, and still a phenomenal voice for 17 years old. SHe is more current than Melinda, though. Either of them woudl work, so Jordin's victory was well-earned. Now, regarding the actual Top 4.... LaKisha had the ability to stay another week, so I wasn't thrilled tos ee her…

No...not me. Though, if I could retire now...I would. I have a LOT I'd LOVE to be doing...he heh. But, no...this is about retiring a daily driver ... specifically an older daily driver. I got to thinking about this as I washed/waxed my '87 MC LS today, a far cry from what I was doing LAST Saturday: http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=24912 At least tomorrow I'll be driving my older 4 MCs.... Yes, I'm looking for a winter beater right now...but, I'm wondering if I should retire the '87 MC LS from daily status altogether. I don't really want to....but, well, maybe it'd be better. So...for those driving older cars (older than 1995, including …

We've just found the world's smallest Ferrari key. What's it ignite? How about one of the world's most excruciatingly detailed 1/8-scale miniature hand-built Ferrari F40s? Check out the mega-gallery of master craftsmanship below. A highly trained model enthusiast member of the Model Brouwers.nl forum has managed to make us feel like smaller, weaker men than we actually are by carefully assembling this 515 piece Pocher 1/8 scale miniature Ferrari F40. Not content with realism that the Pocher kit provides, he cranked the dial to eleven by including a 1500 piece photo-etched Autograph transkit into the mix. http://jalopnik.com/5320344/worlds-smalles...errari/gallery/ …

Well,...there have been "rumors" of a new Stingray for awhile...but, yesterday I got a confirmation from a friend of mine at GM that indeed the STINGRAY is set to return. Based upon the solstice/sky platform, the new stingray will be introduced quite soon !!..or so it seems. GM has done several "production mock ups" of this model, which will expand the "CORVETTE" brand into a TWO Model line, & there may be More Corvette models in the future ! Another "tidbit" I was told is that GM is seriously considering bringing back the "GRAND PRIX"...possibly even the GTO !!! They may "return" as either Chevy or Buick models !!!!

That epiphany is this: Australia knows how to build a better American car than we do. These videos from Top Gear Australia only prove that point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eHZhsF8hwI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTjV3EeFrf8 I have to wonder, where are our bold, brazen Chevelles, Impalas, and Novas? Australia has the Commodore and Falcon that openly embrace the American muscle car values that we desired so long ago. Sure, we have the Commodore here as the G8 and it's a great car, but we don't deserve it. The average, stupid, fat, lazy American doesn't understand what a car of the Commodore/G8's magnitude represents. And that brings me to another point: since …

I know this is way off topic here, but I figured *some* car nuts should know how to build things out of wood. I went to Home Depot and bought 12 pieces of spruce, 8 feet long each. I'm going to build a shoe rack and a laundry hamper. I cut 5 boards in thirds, and cut a sixth in 10 9-inch sections. The thirds go side by side with a 9-inch section at each end to form shelves. So I've used 1/2 of the wood so far. I want to build the sides and back (if necessary) out of as little wood as possible, so that my hamper can be bigger. Will 5 shelves screwed in to the vertical sides have strength? Will this design want to lean one way or the other, wobbling? If I do need a ba…

I watched this test a while back, and really enjoyed it. To my knowledge, the only one who managed to get this whole group together. 'Everday Driver' did a comparo a while back of the Golf R, Evo, Focus RS, and STI. I know these are usually 2 car option threads, but we're going to deviate from that this go-round. Here's the test- Golf R vs Evo vs FocRS vs STI So, which of the following would you rather have? Golf R STI Evo X Final Edition Focus RS

While digging out a gift for a certain road-tripping member here, I decided to get these out and snap some pics. And now I will share here. These are from 1967 and were given to me by the person whose name is on the original mailing tube from 1967. What's funny is that when I got these 20 years ago, I was jazzed because there were GTO pics here. Now I am a bigger fan of the 2+2.

Hey everyone, Just a quick question for you: If you had to think of the best name to describe people who like to modify and customize their cars and trucks what would it be? Tuners? Modders? Restylers? Or something else? I know this sounds like a joke (and I'm actually waiting to see the creativity of some of our forum members) but I have been giving this a lot of thought. Tuners make me immediately think of imports only, restylers make me think immediately of professionals and modders bring to mind something else entirely. SO, what do you call people who like to play with their cars?

I think the event is called Hell on Wheels, but I know for sure it is at National Trail raceway. Forget which large car club, all pre 72 American stuff, is holding a big get together. They are going to have drag racing and they also want an autocross, so the local (OVR) chapter of the SCCA and the Buckeye Miata club are going to help to run an autocross. Let's see...cars with 300, 400, 500 horsepower...guys who have never done this...some cool old cars...beating on them like they are ment to be beaten on....hmmmm. Also Next weekend the local SCCA is holding a huge Rallycross event, like autocross only on dirt. I'm not racing in it, but will probably ride along wit…

Just wanted to let you all know that I won't be around for the next 3 days as I am taking the family on a mini-vacation to visit our nation's capital - Washington, DC. Two years ago we made this trek during the spring break and enjoyed it so much that we've been wanting to go back since. We took good old Amtrak back in 2007, but this time we'll be driving down in the AURA. Of course the weather isn't suppose to be so great on Tuesday and Wednesday, but we'll make the most of it (our plans include visiting a lot of museums these two days). Should be back late Wednesday and will likely post again on Thursday (I'll need a day to recouperate before heading to NYC on Frida…

It cracks me up what I wrote for this stuff. Make sure you check out all the years (2000, 01 and 02). Well...I'm mostly mad at myself. Coming home from work today I'm behind this chevy pickup going about 45-50mph. All of a sudden he swerves into the right lane for what seems no reason at all. Then, I see this white explorer stopped waiting to turn left. Since there is a car in the right lane next to me I have no choice but to slam my brakes on hard. Well, I stop fine. Only a few block up the street I'm speeding up to catch the green light. Now, at 60mph. It changes yellow. > Well, I can take this little side road to the left and bypass the light. (This light takes 5-7 minutes to change. Added with getting stopped by other lights ahead, this can add 15 minutes …

Spent a couple hours at the Keeneland Concours d'Elegance this morning and I have to say that it was one of the best experiences I've ever had! I wish those of you in the area that post on here could have met up there with me, it was well worth the $15 entry...WELL worth it. I overheard that over 200 Corvettes were there, it was the featured make this year, plus Packards, Porsches, Ferraris, Austin Healeys, Maseratis, Lambos, Minis, Miatas, Audis, Bimmers, Benzs, Alfas, GMs, Fords, Chryslers, racecars, and more that I'm sure I'm forgetting. Including!!!!! 5 Corvette concept cars on loan from the GM Heritage Museum in Detroit!! More cars than you can shake a stick…

All right, I threw this idea at Fly this morning as to whether or not there should be a "how-to" sub-forum in the Tech Section thread for all of us who do our own repair work, or those of us that would like to get started, but are unsure of what to do. Its just an idea, but I'd like to get some real feedback on this one because I would love to be able to post repair proceedures and pictures and stuff like that so's I can help out my fellow C&G'ers when it comes to repairs and in general fixin' stuff.

It's that time of year when the Salvation Army guys are standing on busy street corners or outside your local supermarket with their red bucket while jingling their little bell. I don't really mind giving when I have change. I've given a dollar here and there but does anybody feel pangs of guilt or selfishness when you simply walk past the guys or say you don't have any change (whether you do or not)? I dunno....even when I really don't have any change on me, I feel a liitle guilt.

I am sure many of you already know this, ANYWAY for those of you who don't... Get a car 25 years or older, put in a 400 hp engine. Get it appraised for $100-150. Then get classic/antique insurance for $ 120 for 6 months. Genius plan. oh yeah don't forget to update the brake system and steering with your extra money or risk being an organ donor. Paying thousands just in case something happens sucks

I can hardly believe it has been TWO MONTHS since I traveled along Route 66 in September. It was an AWESOME trip filled with lots of cool people, places and surprises along the way. I started Route 66 in Pontiac IL and ended in Rialto CA (last night on Route 66 I stayed at the WigWam motel) ... and stopped at MANY places along the way in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. On the way home, I drove through Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa. I started and ended the trip with Lincoln Highway places (Franklin Grove IL and Kearney NE). Route 66 (as well as the Lincoln Highway) is most-certainly alive and well! While I still would ra…

The HCCP grand finale show is today at Delaware County Community College in Media, PA. This is a huge event with cars from the brass era to today, and is laid out in tiered parking lots that are divided into categories. If you are within striking distance, you ought to make the trip. It is usually 700+ cars, and features a flea market. I'll be going at some point during the day. The event runs from now (10 AM) until about 3PM. I've already been seeing the classics cruising RT 252 on their way to the show.

Well I just watched Tokyo Drift on a bootlegged dvd. and right after it i think Hmmm... I have a FWD beater with a new trans!. Lets destroy it. Oh god i think I drove around for about 2-4 hours doing e brake assisted drifts, spinning the tires while the engine is bouncing off red line while sliding at a 60º angle. Its so unpredictable tho. I thought i was almost about to crash my car a couple times. It will probably get old soon but its so fun. Although RWD is fun and controllable but, doing it in a FWD car is so risky. Video: "Total Recall" featurette: Hover Car - Watch how the producers of the upcoming remake of "Total Recall" choose not to use CGI to create the hover cars used in the film and the technology they employed to make these cars "real". As of today, we are now a GM-only household. Sold my 2004 Neon SXT this morning and we're down to one car, the Malibu Maxx. This is the first time I've been without a Mopar in the garage since Nixon was president. I'm serious! My wife got a new job where she is able to commute via bus and I've been commuting via bus for a long time. Our high-school daughter gets to/from school via the bus as well and she won't be able to drive, unless some advanced surgery comes along to fix her eyesight (she's legally blind). We decided we don't need two cars and my wife didn't like driving the Neon (she claims she sat too low in it). Wow...we only have one car--and it's a GM!

Read before clicking the link... I know it's a LONG read but well worth it Fisette had no idea whether he was buying King Tut’s tomb or Al Capone’s vault when he agreed to buy 21 trailers said to be full of Corvettes and Chevrolet muscle cars and parts. Luckily, all of the rumors he had heard whispered around his northeast Wisconsin home turned out to be more true than he ever dreamed. So far, Fisette, a De Pere, Wisconsin, restorer and automotive repair shop proprietor, has opened 17 of the 21 sealed trailers one-by-one and found a Yenko Camaro with 45,000 miles; a pair of low-mileage 1970 LS-6 Chevelles; a 1972 Camaro Z/28; two 1957 Corvettes, one a fuel-injected …

Unbelievable: it's at the University of Washington in Seattle More unbelievable: in the Architecture Building They weren't students, per se, but it was a murder-suicide between a research associate and a man who was obviously obsessed with her. One of thinks of smug, morose, safe Nordic Seattle and this is hard to believe. On the South End, maybe. But on the UW campus? I rarely visit the place as I want to forget the school experience there. However, if I ever do, it will be creepy.

So, I went to the Renaissance Faire today. Has anyone else been to one of these things? It was pretty fun I guess, in a cheesy kind of way. Lots of kilts to celebrate Scottish Weekend. Yeah, I was checking out some ppl in kilts, sue me, some of them were dead sexy. I tried some haggis, a traditional Scottish food... a totally disgusting mix of miscellaneous sheep parts, spices ,and what I believe to be rice or something... it turns out looking like gray dog puke *shiver*. Waaay too much food overall, lots of little shows and acts, a jousting tournament with pyrotechnics... all in all, a good day.

Saturn designs, circa 1985. Raise your hand if you didn't know about the minivan. And they thought that it didn't look like a J-Car ... And I understand that they gave a revision of that design you see above to Isuzu. Not sure if that's true, though.

* Ever been reminded of an older song when hearing a new song? Below are 2 "twin spins", where the newer song not only reminded me of the older song, but the newer song seems to be the first part, with the older song answering it..... This first one, I played on my radio show a couple of times. Will You Be there?, Heart, 1990s: I Will Be There, Dan Seals, 1980s: This second pair is a more-recent discovery. Ok, maybe I'm just imagining things, but I remember people on here talking about a two door Blazer, like the GMT-400's of yore, and wishing there would be a GMT-900 version. Now didn't someone on this site do a sketch of what it should look like? Something along the lines of this? Because I happened to be browsing on Google for GMT-900, and this sketch came up, but on a different forum, and the poster is called "opiated" http://www.nfscars.net/forum/showthread.php?p=308698 Maybe it's someone off this site, but I'm not too sure. You might have to scroll up to see it.

Well not really "curse" so much as driver stupidity. I was on delivery in the $h!tier area of Lawrence, at an intersection with no light and poor visiblity. There was also some jackass parked at the corner. As I came to s astop this beat up 80's Town Car comes to a stop behind me, kind of short. I pull out a few inches to see around the car at the corner. He pulls up too but hits his braakes kind of hard, as I can see the boat nose dive a bit. I pull out a coupel of inches more and stop to geta better view and wait for an openning in busy traffic...then BAM! I'm rear ended...and more than a little pissed. Let's lok at the facts: 2nd accident in less…

I had been drinking orange juice or grapefruit juice just about every morning. I love it, no doubt, and it's good for you, but I picked up some apple juice on sale and talk about delicious and soothing. Not as tart, either. What is your favorite type of juice?

I heard this song the other day on TV or somewhere and it has been bugging me that I can't figure out who sings it. I have no idea what the lyrics are except that there is a male vocalist that goes "do - do Do DOO" repeatedly in the chorus, while a guitar is plucked. It's a very slow, mellow song...it reminds me of summer. I'm guessing it's from the 70s by the way it sounds, but I really have no idea. I'm pretty sure it has been used in one or more movies before.

LA Autoshow will be farewelling the year 2009 which possibly christened itself as the bloodbath for the Automobile History. With the end of dreariness comes a hope for new models and better cars for all of us - with the dream that 2010 will not be as bad and that automanufacturers . What cars do you think GM will debut or would you like GM to debut at the LA Autoshow 2009? Do you think GM has something up its restructured sleeves which will give some us enthusiasm and excitement for us or just reinforce sentiments in some of us that GM is competing for appliance king badge with Toyota? GM will be a stronger force in this year's Autoshow circuit with a display of bette…

Balthazar's son opening his gift got me thinking of past gift openings. One of my favorite gifts was a race car track set. Man, I loved that gift. Another was a gas station with cars and little service men. Was in heaven when I opened that. I remember also a remote control car, so fun...but it was a Thunderbird. My folks didn't yet know what a GM fan I'd become. If you were a kid now, what would you like under the tree? Also, I realized at Christmas, I'll eat stuff early morning, around breakfast time, that I'd never eat other times of the year. Like chocolates, Christmas cookies etc...

Extended warranties - are they a good idea? I bought the GMPP for my 1992 Regal. The car had 3/36 but I got coverage up to 6 yrs and 72,000 miles. I NEVER had to use it once! I guess I should have been mad, but I would have had to pay beaucoup bucks for an air conditioning compressor and such had they gone out. OK, now I'm on the cusp of the new car purchase (in the fall, when I get back from Europe). If I snag a 2006 (some are still around), powertrain is 3/36 so I'd go 72 months again. If I snag a 2007 or 2008, powertrain is 5/100, so the extra year is more for the other accessories...which can be expensive...but I'd still go 72 months. Questions: Have you bo…

I have a massive collection of sales brochures that I am gearing up to sell on Ebay very soon. The collection ends around 2004-ish and goes back into the 1930s for some brands. It is mostly US brands, but Asian and European brands are there too. Most of Acura and all of Suzuki were already given to friends, and Mustang was removed from the collection before I inherited it. If you have a specific year/make/model you want me to pull for you to set aside let me know. For long-time members here, I will share up to four for just the cost of packing and postage. The collection really encompasses everything and not just the halo cars. Even basic models like Neon, …

Depending on what section you're in sometimes you get the option of changing the HTML when starting a new thread so you can embed, sometimes you don't. I know I don't get it in the Chrysler or Opel forums, in the GM and Ford sections I do.
