I say buy a Cruze for 20,000. Spend the 20,000 on gasoline! A Volt costs 40,000! I could buy a lot of gasoline for 20K extra. That is why I could never buy a Volt. Tue much munny!! The Volt is cool and innovative. But 40 K would buy a nicer vehicle like a CTS or Enclave.

The Corvette has a long history of excelling in endurance racing, and the C7.R looks to continue that. To celebrate the legacy, Chevrolet has announced a special edition Corvette Z06 which brings some of C7.R race car to the road. We had a few new GM MFG cars in at work today. One was the 2010 Camaro SS it posted and one of the others was the 2010 Nox. The one I drove was a 4 cylinder LT2. Seating and the interior is great. It fit me fine and I felt comfortable as soon as I got in and set the seat. It is easy to see out of. THe dash lay out has a lot of things on it but they are well label and easy to find. The digital screens are wasy to read even in very bright sun. I did not know it has a digital spedo in the middle of the regular speedo and tach. While it is not heads up it is nice when you are used to HUD. Transmission shifts smooth. and is as good as the similar unit in the Malibu. …

I will post this here as this was a Chevy race car during the embargo. There is video on Autoblog.com showing Ed Wellborn driving the Chaparral 2E around the Tech Center. During the Video he said they have thought about doing a Concept car based on the 2E's ideas. Don't know if this will lead anywhere but it is a great video to watch and listen too. Chaparral would be a good name for a limited edition Vette or Camaro as Jim hall had a history with both. It would be a great heritage name to bring back.

[source: Motor Authority] GM engineer drops Corvette ZR1 supercharged LS9 into '69 Chevrolet Camaro For many auto enthusiasts, the golden age of automotive styling was during 1960s, when designers had virtual free reign on their designs and didn't have to worry about aerodynamics, pedestrian crumple zones and other such ‘nuisances’. At the same time, the ‘60s could hardly be called the high point of automotive technology, and the development of engines, brakes, suspension components and transmissions still had a long way to go. Fast forward to 2009, and legendary GM engineer and pro-touring car builder Mark Stielow appears to have created the perfect marriage…

66 K HHRs to 60 K PT Cruisers according to sales figures. GM had better keep the HHR retro! HHR is putting VUE, Equinox and the crossovers to shame when it comes to sales. When the HHR has aged, replace it with a version of the Nomad concept vehicles. There is a market for retro vehicles. Nostalgia. HHR is attractive. GM, make a few modest changes but KEEP THE RETRO LOOk!!

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 4, 2013 February 28, 2013 was a sad day at GM's Bowling Green factory in Kentucky as the final C6 Corvette rolled off the assembly line. The last Corvette was a white 427 convertible collectors' edition model which will be heading to GM's Heritage Collection in Detroit. During its nine years in production, the Bowling Green plant built a total of 215,100 C6 Corvettes. Now the plant is undergoing a retooling to begin production of the new C7 Corvette Stingray later this year. If you're one of those people who still wants to get their hands on a C6 Corvette, don't fret. Automotive News said that Chevrolet dealer…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 23, 2012 General Motors has announced that it will be doing a software upgrade on 4,000 2013 Chevrolet Volts due to glitch which could cause the electric motor to shut down. "We are notifying 2013 model year Chevy Volt owners about a customer satisfaction issue. The new Vettes interior and wheels make a great improvment over the 07. While the interior is not everything we asked for it is 95% there. 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Road Test Chevy catches a wave back into the mid-size game. by Paul A. Eisenstein http://www.thecarconnection.com/contact/in...asp?AuthorID=59 (2007-11-02) Get out of the fast lane, Toyota Camry. Move aside, Honda Accord. For the first time in a generation, General Motors is back with a game-changing mid-size sedan. And the imports better be worried, when they see the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu pull up in their rearview mirror. There was a time when Detroit, GM, in particular, dominated the mid-size market, but that's so far back, many of today's buyers likely won't even remember anything but the more lackluster offerings that f…

Automotive lust in America means blown Camaros. You know, like the red '69s on every cover of Car Craft. A big BDS 10-71 supercharger sticking through the hood and massive M/T drag slicks under tubs in back. Let the rest of the world dream of Ferraris, Lamborghinis and dinky little British two-seaters. In this country speed doesn't look like that. It looks like this. This is the Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) "HPE550" supercharged 2010 Camaro SS. That's right, it's a blown Camaro. The first blown 2010 Chevy Camaro. And that makes it the very newest version of a true American icon. Ranks right up there with the Beach Boys, buckets of deep fried chicken and our…

Picked up my Volt on March 10th. Volt #1712. Black w/black cloth interior. The only option are the polished wheels, which look great with black exterior and the other touches of chrome trim. Each Volt displays their build number as part of the NAV screen display. I'm not sure if that will always be the case or only for the first model year. I had no real intention of getting one, I had been monitoring my local dealers through CARS.com to see if there was one within 50 miles of me, just so I could see one and perhaps test drive. No dealers had one in JAN or FEB. In early MAR one showed up at a local dealer. I went down on a Saturday to check it out. I was told it…

I think we all new this day was coming sooner rather than later but... Chevrolet Sonic Discontinuted I've been weirdly drawn to this car ever since the upgrade and name change from Aveo back in 2012. Never owned one and probably never will but they do have a pull for me for some reason. I prefer the exterior of the pre-refresh version but actually like the more traditional interior of the current one better. If only they would have stuck a 1.6T with 180-200 hp in the RS version! Basically a Fiesta ST competitor. Obviously that wasn't enough to save the Fiesta either but it would have been fun for us enthusiasts.

I was thinking the other day about the Volt, in the light of it being used the same way as a Nissan Leaf... i.e., as a electric only car. I know that engines and gasoline don't like sitting still for long periods... I was curious, if the Volt engineers have planned for the possibility of a owner never getting the Volt to run the gasoline engine. Sure... the Volt could turn it on briefly from time to time to ensure it doesn't suffer from its disuse, but then I was thinking... what if the owner never puts gas in it... so then the Volt could not even run the engine periodically to keep it in good condition. Then I was thinking... what if the user never runs the Volt's engi…

Toyota was getting huge P.R. mileage out of its Prius hybrid, even as the automaker was gearing up to make inroads into the least energy-efficient segments of the market, large SUVs and pickups. Adding insult to injury, Lutz heard in late 2005 about a Silicon Valley company called Tesla Motors that was developing a high-performance electric car, which would sell for $100,000. It started w/ a Business man walking to a parking lot, where he got in a red 2006 Corvette Z06. I figured It would be limited as already stated by Al Oppenhiser. As it will have a LS3. I had hoped for the Gen V but I expect that it will be seen in a later model or a Alpha based replacment at some point. GM will need all the new Gen V they can get at start up for the trucks anyways. Also I am not sure if the Gen V is ready for the global market yet. Any ways here is a little of what was stated. PT Cruiser This! By Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit Date posted: 12-14-2007 The 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS does not want to kill you. This cannot be said of all its competitors. We don't want to name names here, so let's just say that the HHR SS has really only one direct competitor, the Dodge Caliber SRT-4. This competitor acts like a drug-addled co-driver who grabs the steering wheel and saws wildly if you dare to use more than a feather's touch of throttle. What the hell are we talking about? Why our old buddy torque steer, of course — that troublesome houseguest of powerful front-drive cars. But the HHR SS badly wants to be your friend. And despite a few r…

A convertible version? Basically a range-topping spritual successor to the SSR. The engineering work would already be done for the most part, so it wouldn't be as expensive to include it, and I think a few SSR owners might trade theirs in. What does everyone think? After driving that SSR today I now want one for some reason (probably because I felt so different driving it - it's like nothing else I've ever driven), but anyways, what does everyone think?

The new Malibu has a more athletic look than before. But it has no "Sport" trim package to spice things up, like Ford's Fusion and Toyota's Camry, two formidable rivals. The Kia Optima has a relatively sporty look, too, in higher trims. I'd like to see Chevy add a low-cost Sport trim package to the Malibu. A manual transmission is still offered in certain iterations of the competition, as well, including its main domestic foe... Fusion. If Chevy were to take, say, a 1LT Malibu and offer this package: 2.5L with 6 speed manual (optional automatic, of course). 18 inch unique alloys. Foglamps and low rear spoiler. Sport cloth seats and metallic interior trim... I thi…

AutoGuide recently obtained a California Air Resources Board (CARB) document listing the pairings for the 6.2L V8 and various transmissions for the 2019 Camaro and Corvette. In the 'Trans Type' column, the Camaro is listed with M6, M7, and SA8. The middle one is the interesting bit as it hints that the Camaro will get a seven-speed manual. AutoGuide believes the seven-speed in question is the one used in the Corvette. But there arises an issue with this conclusion. The seven-speed manual transmission for the Corvette mounts at the rear axle, whereas the manual transmission for the Camaro mounts at the engine. So GM could either figure out some way of finagling the Co…

We know that Chevrolet is readying the Bolt EV for production that will begin sometime late next year. But we didn't know when or where the production model would be shown. Now we do. The Verge reports that Chevrolet will show off the Bolt at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January. This was revealed by GM executive vice president Mark Reuss during the LA Auto Show. CES is turning out to be a big event for GM. Earlier in the month, CEO Mary Barra was announced to be the keynote speaker for the show. Source: The Verge View full article

Chevrolet has revealed the two extremes of the Silverado family, the 1500 and the Class 4, 5, and 6 trucks. But the HD variant has yet to make its debut. Today, Chevrolet dropped a teaser for the upcoming 2020 Silverado HD. This would be ok if it was a couple of months out from being shown, but Chevrolet isn't planning to show until late 2019. That's right, we have an 18-month wait. The photo shows the top half of the Silverado HD's front end and it looks tough. We can see the headlights being similar in shape to the 1500 and the Chevrolet script running the whole length of the grille. We're expecting a number of grille inserts depending on the trim. A chrome-r…

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/1208_40_mpg_compact_sedan_comparison/volkswagen_mazda_chevrolet.html What if GM took all those great, efficiency-enhancing insights they learned while developing the Volt and applied them to a conventional gasoline-powered sedan? Actually, that's just about what the Cruze Eco is. It's no secret the two cars share platforms, but nothing trains the mind on efficiency quite like creating a car that depends on a battery (at least sometimes), and many of the Volt's teensy and seemingly improbable efficiencies have reappeared on its much better-selling gasoline-only alter ego. Decemeber 21st, 2011 black-knight CheersandGears.com There's reason to believe that the folks over at Chevrolet may have a huge New Year's party soon. The storied marquee turned 100-years old this year and, proving that age will not slow it down, is within reach of surpassing it's all time global sales record. At the end of November, 4.8 million cars worldwide were sold wearing the Bowtie badge and December doesn't show any signs of that pace slowing down. It's very impressive, no doubt, but the gravy train doesn't stop there. All of those sales equaled up to Chevrolet increasing it's global market share by one half of a point and sixty percent of all Chevy models are…

LONDON: Monday, 18 December - Car-mony, a musical ensemble featuring five Chevrolet cars and the London Symphony Orchestra, has joined the race as a late contender to top this year’s Christmas single charts. Car-mony’s claim to chart history rests on its song, ‘Honk-a-Tonk Christmas’– a medley of all time Christmas favourites played on car horns, with instrumental support from a brass quintet. The song is a collaborative effort between Chevrolet, one of the biggest car brands in the world, and the London Symphony Orchestra – one of the top five orchestras in the world. The medley will include popular Christmas carols like ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’, ‘Away In A Mang…

http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/double-sided-68-camaro-look-more-twice-194433300.html?cache=clear This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS convertible was built at the State Farm Vehicle Research Facility as a half-and-half “Jekyll and Hyde” car for training purposes and PR display. The driver’s side of the car is a high-quality restoration to correct factory-stock specs. The passenger side is a customized street machine with lots of flashy aftermarket parts and custom bodywork, but deliberately less-exacting craftsmanship. In addition to serving as an eye-catching car-show display piece, this car was built by State Farm employees who love their cars, enjoy restoring cars a…

Making my daily rounds to every GM site I noticed that Chevy has something new and well pretty cool if you ask me called Chevy Nation. It is a computer generated town with new and old Chevy's cruising around like '64 Impala's to a new HHR. The cool part is you can into a chop-shop and view videos and do other interactive stuff in 2 other areas currently with a few more on the way. Listen to songs with Chevy in them, look at lyrics and download posters and much more. I spent a good hour exploring the first part of that is launched and was so impressed. Please guys take and a look and leave your comments... Here is the link! Chevy Nation Most importantly enjoy!

General Motors will be putting a halt on production of the current Volt starting next month. According to The Detroit News, General Motors will put the Detroit-Hamtramck on a six-week break to not only get the plant ready to build the next-generation Volt, but also reduce the amount of Volts sitting on dealer lots. “First-generation Volt will stop building at the very end of May to get ready for model change,” said GM spokeswoman Michelle Malcho. According to Wards Auto data, Chevrolet dealers currently have a 210-day supply of Volts. A 60-day supply of a vehicle is considered healthy. Through the month of March, GM has only moved 1,784 Volts, a 48 percent drop when co…

I was looking at a few sites (particularly chevrolet.com, buick.com and cadillac.com and there was no information as to this question: if I plug in an iPod into the USB port provided in today's GM cars, do they only play MP3 music files? Can they play lossless files such as AAC files? Please advise since I will likely look for this feature in my next GM car.

I was browsing on Chevy website, and it said that the 2008 cobalts have following curb weights: Coupe: 2681 Sedan: 2747 The 2007 cobalts show the curb weights as Coupe: 2991 Sedan: 3216. (Source edmunds and carsdirect) That is a huge weight loss especially for the sedan. Wonder numbers are correct. If I am not wrong, the 2007 Cobalt specs on Chevy website were Coupe: 2850 Sedan: 2980 Wonder what is Chevy doing.

Just back from Chevy's "build & price" situation, and on the 2007 Cobalt SS/SC options list is the lower-profile T43 spoiler, priced at $0. I know in years past, when new model year info was first posted, it was sometimes incomplete and even wrong in spots. I'd like to know if anyone in sales can confirm this spoiler option. I'd really like to see a spoiler delete option... or make the wing a dealer-installed thing like the ION Redline, so the customer has a chance to decline it. I saw a black '07 Redline at the local dealer, and it looks so much better with the ground effects and fat tires pulling it visually to the ground, unfettered by the wing that adds unnece…

Just caught a advanced story on the MT first drive. They were impressed even after a shorten run. They liked the styling and vs the Taurus they said it was more quiet, rode better and handled better. Note this was compared to the non SHO model. They noted the car did not feel as tight as it should but it was a hand built preproduction car and they said that is normal and was taken in consideration. They even compared the Taurus as being more Crossover like with its tall roof. They noted that the LTZ is loaded and is much like the Lacrosse in quality of interior. It will also be just over $40,000. The LT model has had a lot of work put into it and it will be very impre…

The GMnext blog has a post up that talks about the potential viability of a low-displacement turbocharged motor -- the direct-injected 2.0L Ecotec turbo, specifically -- in upcoming GM cars, including the Camaro. Let's talk about this a little. The breathed-upon Ecotec delivers 260 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque, and if you've driven, say, the Sky or Solstice equipped with it, you know just how ballsy it really is. It's more powerful (but less torquey) than either V8 offered in the '87 IROC-Z that I thought was so cool back during high school. The turbo four might well be a nice solution in a future iteration of the Camaro, but is the fuel economy argument for it as rock …

If the 2006 Suburban rebates are $6000, and local dealers are offering double rebates, it means I can get a $36K truck for $24K and that sounds good to me. Problem is...there aren't any 2006's at those dealers. They advertise them, but don't have any. Does anyone know of a dealer with 2006 Suburbans in stock? Rebate on the 2007's is $2000, doubled to $4000, but that would put a payment out of our price range. A $24K truck, $4500 down, over 6 years at 10% is a $412 payment which we can handle ($400 would be better, $350 best). But a $32K truck, $4500 down, over 6 years at 10% is way out of budget. I guess maybe we need to look at a nice used 2004... How is the …

Chevrolet had promised to have the new Bolt under $30,000 and will start with shipping a mid-level LT model Bolt starting at $29,990 with an entry level Bolt later in the 2027 model year at $28,995. The Bolt will join the Chevrolet family of EVs that includes Equinox, Blazer and Silverado EVs. As regular readers here know, I have faithfully followed every detail of the Chevrolet Volt story and every morsel of news since the car was no more than a show car shell and a pen and paper idea. Over these months and years we’ve run into many controversial moments. Perhaps none has been as controversial as the present “gas engine driving the wheels” fiasco. Earlier this week I attended GM’s first media press conference where executive engineer Larry Nitz described how the Volt operated. In the lecture he specifically mentioned 70 MPH as the point where the combustion engine can contribute power indirectly to the driveshaft. He was quite specific this can only occur…

Perhaps you've seen the 1962 Pontiac Monte Carlo convertible on eBay recently. Thought that was a bit interesting? Try this on for size ... Packard had a Monte Carlo. A friend of mine who owns a 1941 Packard, sent me a page that included the following info... "Your recent items on the 1948 Station Sedan and Professor Ward's 'The Packard Legacy' (issue 87) seem to lament Packard's failure to keep up with Cadillac and others in styling and more modern engineering. Richard Arbib's original Monte Carlo...indicates that Packard did anticipate (or at least react to) the GM hardtops introduced to the public in January 1949. If Packard was not thinking along these lines, at…

Well I got to spend some time with some Camaro owners this weekend. Word among them is that the Camaro Disciples are being convened in Detroit during the Woodward cruise week per the Camaro web sites. GM has been and is still working with them. It looks like they might be used for the updates to the present car and I would not be suprised since work is already started they will be used for the Alpha car. This mean real Camaro fans will be in on the new car from the start and not just the end of the program. Good move on GM's part too keep working with them. None of them are talking so we will just have to wait to see what they are doing. Some of what they can say ends…

Award Worthiness Confirmed for Motor Trend 2017 Car of the Year - Chevrolet BOLT Motor Trend plugged in their long term Chevrolet Bolt tester 13 months ago and today they announced that they have confirmed it lived up to every expectation of being the 2017 Car of the Year. It was not just a good affordable EV that eliminated range anxiety but after 17,000 miles deserved to be praised! They do state that the CUV was not perfect as they had two software updates that fixed issues and the shifter was replaced. With that said, maintenance for the year was $0. Cost of powering the EV CUV which had a total of 154 charges cost a total of $630.58 using 69 charges a…
