I would say most people go to a restaurant for convenience, for something different to eat, for atmosphere, and for good service. Saturday I went to Applebee's for lunch. The server came by in a reasonable period of time and took my order... so far, so good. Then it all went to hell in a handbasket. I ordered one of their new "combos", which is your choice of an entree and a dessert for one price. I got the Southwest Chicken/Raspberry cheesecake combo. It took a long time to get my food and the place wasn't that busy for that day and time. The cheese on top of the chicken was burned to ash on the edges. It actually disintegrated into black dust when I cut it. The…

most definitely JIF! Jif Creamy! I love the Jif Natural too. Yummy. Trying the Simply Jif and Jif Crunchy these days too. Another one I tried recently was Trader Joes unsalted creamy, although i hate having to refrigerate peanut butter. Thought i'd give the whole foods peanut butter a try. Every time I try skippy, meh. Doesn't match up to Jif. The walmart and target brands are ok but in truth JIF reigns supreme and has something going on with it that just rocks. I am even split between the natural and the regular creamy depending on my mood.

Ocn: Do you remember the Nomad at Carlisle with the pearl white paint at the GM nats show a while back? We were looking at the tint of that paint and it seemed to me that it had a slight blue tint to it. I'd like to find a stock white pearl that has that same look. Any ideas? Everyone: Please post any pics of cars in a factory white pearl, I'm trying to find one I really like. Thank to all in advance.

We already had a thread for the most overrated cars, so I thought we should also have a thread for the very underrated or forgotten cars and companies thoughout history. Personally, its Pierce-Arrow that gets the gold star for the greatest forgotten US automotive treasure. The cars equaled the prestige of Rolls-Royce and Duesenberg and were popular with foreign royalty (the rulers of Japan, Persia, Saudi Arabia and Belgium owned Pierce-Arrows). But, like so many other car companies, it disappeared during the Depression.

Pretty slick, but not so much @ night, me thinks. Also, the illusions may start to crack once the first pair of dirty socks lays heaped against a wall for a few days. Also needs to upgrade the ante' in the garage if this is a design-intensive project. FWD-proportioned wedges aren't going to butter the biscuits here. LINKY

So I was cooking some dinner, and reminiscing about fish sticks. I haven't had them in a while, because I love fish sticks... but they are always a disaster. For those who remember the '70s, am I crazy or has modern processes destroyed the fish stick. In the '70s, fish sticks were crispy and easy to cook... my mother made fantastic fish sticks and we had them in abundance, so they must have been cheap. In fact, I think my mother cooked them in the microwave and they still came out great. I never seem to find decent fish sticks... they never get crispy... they go from soggy to charcoal. They stick to the pan or rack and the breading falls off. The fish inside is a…

YES bored. Pricing out fullsize, 2WD, shortbed, regular cab base model trucks that are optioned out as nicely and evenly as I could. Big V8s, posi-traction rears, power windows/locks/mirrors and chrome bumper packages across the board. Edmunds' "True Market Value" pricing (typical dealer discount plus rebate) comes out like this: Ram Tradesman: $21,872 in True Blue with stone cloth bench Silverado W/T LS: $23,900 in resurrected Imperial Blue with gray vinyl bench Sierra W/T Plus: $24,042, same colour scheme as Silvy F150 XL Plus: $25,101 in Green Gem with gray cloth bench imo... good grief, the Ram is a screaming deal! Plus, the Tradesman has the RamBox side …

Stole this idea from a blog I read and thought it would be fun for us here. What widely accepted practice, custom or societal norm do you regard as irrational, absurd, offensive, silly, nonsensical, counterproductive, or morally wrong? Here's your chance to challenge the conventional wisdom. Anything that is already a matter of intense controversy, like abortion or the death penalty, doesn't count -- that aside, however, take liberties with the question.

The Cobalt's brakes just committed suicide. One minute I had brakes, the next... *grind, shake, screech, clank* It feels like the front pads decided to disintegrate. It was very sudden. I knew I would probably need brakes soon, but I certainly wasn't expecting that. I haven't had any time to inspect them, but needless to say, it can't be driven like this. I have half the braking power and its very obviously doing further damage by the sounds and vibrations its making. I hear and feel more from the left side, so it may just be the front left. Another random issue: My ignition release is being screwy. Turning off the key requires hitting the shift lever a few times before…

This is turning into a little weekly series. Where's it at this week? Dubois, 20 miles away. Imagine this... Idiot lights flashing, clouds of steam trying to escape from the gaps of the hood and the wheel wells... It's quite a sight. It overheated. I was on my way to Dubois, driving along I80 peacefully when suddenly the temp light comes on. "What?!" I look into the rear view mirror to see a nice trail of steam. "You've got to be f@#king kidding me." Luckilly, I was coming right up to my exit when it happened. Pulled onto the off ramp and pulled over. Steam is rising from around the hood, especially the back. I pop the hood and upon it. Oh, the steam. Coolant had sp…

I've been thinking lately - I can't wait for Ford to fold. The sooner they do, the less likely it is that GM will do the same. The UAW will have to make some kind of concession if Ford folds. Maybe then GM could compete. Would this work? Will it come to this? What do you think?

Hello, Just wanted to say goodbye. I won't really cancel my membership here, but I just felt that most of my threads got ignored these days and gets buried in the back never to be retrieved, also, I know most people are sick of me whinning about things, spamming with all the nonsense(including my less than stellar pics), and all the craps I posted here, so I felt it is time for me to take a break. I already post in more than 16 - 20 boards, so, for now, I will be focusing more on improving my 3 sites, and decided to part with so many great people I met here. I thought I would see if this is a common practice at other dealers as well. When we were test driving vehicles, the Chevy/Cadillac dealer (and no one else) put a "protection package" on every single new vehicle they had. The package was basically some sort of scotch guard type application done to the interior, nitrogen in the tires, and the windows were etched with the VIN or whatever it is they do. Anyways, this package is $599, and it's on every f@#king vehicle. Really annoying to see a $20,800 Cruze bumped to $21,399, or even worse on an Cruze LS or Aveo. I can see putting it on $50,000 Cadillacs, but $599 on an $18000 Cruze LS is a price increase of 3.33%. Since w…

... a Volvo! The Envoy is "technically" the wife's leased vehicle, but it really was my choice to get it over a too-high monthly lease payment on a GM minivan back in 2005. She liked it for the first year, but she's not really a "truck" person so the last year & a half she's driven the car more. With the lease up in August, we've decided to go back to "his & her" cars. We've been sharing the cars the last few years due to her mileage/commute to work (32 miles one way) and the need to keep leases in the 15k/year range. But I'm tired of fighting over seat & mirror changes (the Envoy does have memory settings that have helped), and she's tired of me picking …

I hate salt! My wife's car froze shut-and she chose to drive my cav! This Cavalier has not seen salt period-since it rolled (new) out of the dealership in April of 2004..... She drove it this morning...when there was still snow on it...(good amount of snow in wheel wells)....but I can't see much-but I do see a little salt underneath the Cav... Since it was still wet outside, can't really tell too much...... The underbody of this car still looks nearly brand new..... Since it was the first time-I'm hoping it won't hurt it-I even wiped undernearth the doors.... My car hates me right-guess I'll have to hurry that eco supercharger..... Damn I'm pissed right …

This is why i cant have fast cars. I drove the vette to work today and on my way home i got pulled over for doing 147 of course that caused a whole ordeal... I was arrested and my car was towed away. Once i get to the police station I try to state some people i know and after some calls i was let go but my wife didn't get me till 10pm... I will have to pay all towing fees and such which doesn't bother me. I will call a police chief I know to take care of the rest, hopefully. whats ironic is that early this morning i was helping a army recruiter at a high school and i was telling kids how to be safe in cars.. Also when they where searching my car they found some funny…

Setting the record for world's fastest gasoline-powered land vehicle, the 1,900 HP Spectre Performance Infidel is powered by a twin-turbo 1970s Cadillac punched out to 529 CI. LSR cars typically run some sort of ethanol blend or nitromethane fuel for maximum power, while the maximum outright speeds are achieved by jet-powered, rather than wheel-driven vehicles. Thrust SSC holds the current outright land speed record of 763 MPH while the 458.4 MPH wheel-driven record is held by the Vesco Turbonator. The Iron-block cadillac engine uses its original cast iron crank and achieved its record during its first outing on the salt and after only 3 runs. In a reversal of conv…

Hi folks, long time. I had a crash with my Sunfire a couple weeks ago. it still drives, but the passenger door and front fender got effed up. My dad has taken it back and I'm borrowing my sister's S-10 in the interim. So I've been shopping for my first new car. I've narrowed it down to either a Sonic hatch or a Cruze. Probably a 2 year, 17k mi/yr lease. Hopefully I'll have an Elio by the end of that. So what are your thoughts about the two choices? They both seem like good cars, and it's hard to say I have a preference between them. I'd like to keep overall cost to a minimum, including payments, gas, and insurance.

So, as it says, what did you do to your car today? Me? I gave the Firebird a good detailing. Washed and waxed to its maximum shine for the all the mullets to embrace.

So me and the wife are 5 miles from our exit to get to our apartment on I-75, when we noticed a pickup on the side of a large bridge. As we pass him my wife gasps and says, "Oh my God, he's gonna jump!" I turned around and sure enough he was standing on the concrete wall on the edge of the bridge, wrapping a jacket around his head. As we pulled off and my wife is dialing 911, I turned around and I watched him fall off the bridge. Police finally showed up, took our information, and informed us someone from Lexington Metro Police would be in touch for a statement. We just got the call from a homicide detective who took our story. We actually found out we got the bett…

Here's the scene: It is 59 degrees outside and I decide to take Arkus with me to the local Wawa. I head down RT 252 toward my destination behind a host of fools that think pacing the car next to you constitiutes safe driving. After a frustrating, if mercifully short, drive I arrive at my destination. I always park right in front of the building so that Arkus can see me while I'm inside, which I proceed to do. I raise the passenger window to a crack of just over an inch so that Arkus can't push the window out of its track (again), and crack my window about half of an inch. So I go inside and order my breakfast sandwiches and prepare my coffee. when the sandwiches are…

Why I am still a GM fan. I wonder because even some of GMs notably excellent recent efforts don't appeal to me personally. Examples: CTS The Lambdas Malibu It's not that I think the competition is better, I simply don't care for these cars. Then I remember: The 900s The Kappas Zeta Corvette Still, I'm not salivating over anything which I could go buy tomorrow. So, as my sig still says, I'm still waiting.

The culprit... The result... I'm not going to say too much, as I'm quite tired and stressed out, but as the title suggests, my brother wrecked his truck. Pretty badly, as the pictures show. Basically, Sunday morning, he was on his way to work and fell asleep at the wheel after having gotten little sleep the previous night. He whacked a steel sign that barely budged. The result of was him needing to be life-flighted to Pittsburgh. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt, either, and as you see from the one interior pic, the steering wheel and windshield took his impact. Externally, he has a broken femur, which came through the skin; broken wrist, fa…

WASHINGTON – States cannot ban the sale or rental of ultraviolent video games to children, the Supreme Court ruled Monday, rejecting such limits as a violation of young people's First Amendment rights and leaving it up to parents and the multibillion-dollar gaming industry to decide what kids can buy. The high court, on a 7-2 vote, threw out California's 2005 law covering games sold or rented to those under 18, calling it an unconstitutional violation of free-speech rights. Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia, said, "Even where the protection of children is the object, the constitutional limits on governmental action apply." Scalia, who pointed out the viol…

I checked out the MSN web page today and got a more realistic account of the earthquake in Haiti, with its magnitude of 7.0. First, I was not aware that there was such a change in potential seismic activity from Florida (essentially nil) to a relatively nearby Caribbean island. Regardless, the amount of devastation is mind-boggling. I was sitting there thinking about how I bitch and moan about what isn't right while people out there are trying to survive in the most deplorable conditions. I plan to keep the Haitian earthquake victims in my prayers and will also make a small donation via one of the Catholic charities. I know that the Masses typically pass around anoth…

The other day I was offered a free car. It's an '84 Camaro, all that I know about it is that it was a V6 car that is now "set-up" for a V8 and that it is in "decent" shape. I'm pretty lukewarm to the idea because it is a V6 car which limits my legal options about what I can do with it. I may investigate a bit more, but I'm not sure I want to bother with such a car. Thoughts?

The Encore's time with us is nearing its end. It needs tires, brakes, and possibly a master cylinder. When I was under it last weekend installing new LED headlights and fog lamps I noticed oil coating the oil pan and the coolant reservoir tank was nearly empty. We've had a coolant leak issue before when the thermostat housing cracked. It's not exhibiting any symptoms currently beside the tank being low... but it lit up my radar. Carvana is offering $8,200 in trade for a 2013 Encore with 101k miles... so I think I'd be dumb not to take that offer up before I have to sink $1,200+ dollars into it. That's the trap we got caught in with the CR-V, we kept sinking mone…

Just got back from a relocation research trip to Atlanta and Florida (no, not Miami). I lived in Atlanta for 2 years, slightly after college. As a product of LA, I was surprised to find that I loved it. It has a special place in my heart because, fairly soon after college, I was able to buy my first house there because of the huge price differences from Cali....that I drive by it every time I go to the ATL. Atlanta is NOT the South. Georgia and Atlanta almost don't belong in the same sentence. Atlanta is one of this country's great metropolitan areas and probably the "engine" for that quadrant of the country. I'm considering going back, so help me out. Pluses: - …

The BLS releases their state-by-state employment stats today. They release at around this time every month. The news is that 36 states posted unemployment drops and 8 states posted increases. It's going in the right direction. California is STILL over 12%. Here's the link: BLS Labor U.E. by state I interviewed for a different job on Dec. 3, was interviewed again on Dec. 8 and then found out on Dec. 14 that I didn't get it. It took me about 1 hour to get over it. I thought about how geeky and uptight those present at the second interview were, that it may not have been a good long-term fit. It may take a little bit, but things ought to get better.

article Eating plant-based meals conserves natural resources and slows global warming Looking for small ways to make a big difference for the environment? Why not start by making yourself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? As members of the PB&J Campaign (no, I’m not kidding) like to say, “You don’t have to change your whole diet to change the world. Just start with lunch.” Eating a plant-based lunch (such as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a bean burrito, vegetarian chili, or a hearty salad) instead of an animal-based lunch (such as a hamburger, a tuna or grilled cheese sandwich, fish and chips, or chicken nuggets) will save water, preserve land and sl…

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationw...ack=1&cset=true (need to be registered) When domestic automakers had their backs to the wall 25 years ago, they could count on a "Buy American" sentiment to keep some customers from defecting to fuel-efficient foreign cars. Today, many loyal domestic vehicle owners say they would be comfortable buying an import. Art Spinella, president of CNW Marketing Research, says the confusion over national origin means consumers are less likely to try to help fellow Americans by buying a domestic vehicle. "Basically, they throw their hands in the air and just buy what they like," Spinella said. When CNW surveyed shoppers coming ou…

I found a link to this on another site and just had to post it...please enjoy the humor in this site and don't turn this thread into a political bash fest. This website is not a joke either, sadly. Wikipedia on Conservapedia Conservapedia on dinosaurs Conservapedia on gravity Conservapedia on the automobile Conservapedia on Mexico Conservapedia on Russia Conservapedia on Ecuador Conservapedia on the French Revolution I got some of these off the thread at Skyscraperpage...apparently Conservapedia has cleaned up spelling and factual errors since this was first posted in early March, but it's still funny nonetheless.

I'm intrigued by "sign shots"; signs direct you to somewhere, tell a story, or just capture your attention. The following are a few "signs shots" I've taken. Since I'm sharing different ones with other boards, I may add more here later.... Anyone else fascinated by signs or take "sign shots"? Well, yesterday was an interesting day for me automotively speaking, as I drove a dream car: The BMW M5 with the 500 Horse V10 and SMG transmission - in short, it is a wonderful and engaging car to drive. Sebring silver over black leather with the suede headliner - so much leather I felt I was in an S and M shop -er...not that I would know...just what I have seen on t.v.! We were looking at a Used BMW 750 that my dad is very interested in (mom hates the XLR - she cannot get comfortable in it with her bad back) and she loves the BMW 7-series. So when we finished looking at the 7, I was sitting in the new Z4 and my son asked me if this is the car I would drive on this …

"Do you see what I see?" __ One Republic __ 'Stop & Stare' The recent warmer temps & sunshine, along with seeing many older vehicles out'n'about while I'm driving my "winter" 1979 Caprice Classic, have me itchin' to drive my "summer" 1989 Caprice Classic, for which I need energy to detail it. I'll probably re-instate complete insurance on it soon. With no job prospects or disability (recently received a rejection letter, but will appeal), I'll probably leave my '79 & '81 MCs in storage this season, in an attempt to try to keep them. MEANTIME, I've been "playing around" with some of my scale model cars.... Last year, I bought 2 large display ca…

...To no longer being annoyed by the Beast. I joined a credit union yesterday. Now it's just a matter of finding a vehicle I like... perhaps the hardest part of all. I started looking for cars over two months ago and I've really only found two I thought were worth purchasing. They both didn't last very long before they were sold. Otherwise, I can't seem to find anything that I could realistically see myself driving. Most of the time, there's just something about each vehicle that puts me off. Generally, something like price, mileage, transmission (I really don't want another automatic), condition, or desirability (there has to be some appeal to it). I can't find a good…

Hello All, So since there is no generic section in the 2012 autoshow section, I am posting my pictures here allong with my take of the autoshow. First off let me start by saying the Seattle Autoshow is about 1/3 smaller than it has been in the past. It was really a shock to see almost no 3rd party auto vendors or alternative nicnack vendors. I arrived excited to check out 2 auto's I was told by local dealers would be there. Honda CNG Civic GX and a GM Bi-Fuel CNG truck. Sadly both were a no show. Course I was hoping to stand around and do free selling of the auto's while handing out business cards for CNG appliances for home fueling. None of it happened. New to the Sea…

This was a facinating story about a three wheeled car, a transvestite and fraud in the 70's. The Dale three wheeled car was designed by Dale Clift and marketed by Liz Carmichael. It was covered widely in print and television media during the gas crisis of that period. But things weren't all that they appeared. The company was investigated and fraud, grand theft and securities violations was discovered. Only about 3 prototypes were built. One is in the Petersen Museum. And Liz went to prison. Later it was also discovered that Liz Carmichael was a 200 lb transvestite who was born Jerry Dean Michael. Not that there is anything wrong with that. 1975 Dale brochure:

Am I the only one around here who likes everything "neat?" Like, most things have to have "neat" colors (nothing real bright, mainly light colors and earth-tones), be right in place (obsessive compulsive), etc? Nothing metro about it.. just everything has to be "neat" Am I the only one?

Normally, I don't do this to my cars.... But this one really pissed me off..... The Cobalt has done the good job pissing me off left and right the last few weeks with all kind of little issues.... - Trans deccided to take its sweet time getting up to speed on I-96...which nearly got me rear ended..twice.... -power locks didn't work..which wouldn't be a big deal if the alarm wouldn't go off-and not turn off. -what radio? I shouldn't pick on her too bad....cars have hit her, as well as people..... That, and this has been some wild weather around here.... Anyways, I went to warm up the Balt outside before I headed off to work, and would not turn over....T…

I have been looking at both a new truck or getting a used 4x4 and saving up a bigger down payment. This would give me a toy in the future when I get a new truck. I found a 2002 Land Rover Discovery that looks good. The dealer was closed today so I haven't heard the engine or taken a test drive yet. I am curious about opinions especially from anyone who might have owned or does own a Land Rover. I am looking for good and bad opinions so anything goes.

Is your family a BI BRAND or a BI AUTOMAKER family, or do you stick to one brand or one automaker only. As for us, we have Pontiac and Chevy in our garage for now, but who knows what the future holds. I know it will always be GM though. I always wonder about people who have like a Toyota, Nissan, and a Dodge in the driveway? I wonder WHY??? What made you do that? Was it price? If you thought this thread was about something else entirely, It's my pleasure to meet you! :AH-HA_wink:

Basically, the article goes beyond the immediate crisis at VW and focuses on how punitive taxes, short-sighted fixes, and lobbying may have led up to it. Interesting stuff. Every once in a while, I get a rental car that is equipped with a sunroof. This happens when the MC is a 3.9 LT upgrade or a GP with the Supercharger (last year) and just this weekend in a Mercury Milan Premier. It was very nice driving the car around and seeing the stars through the glass sunroof. It was also nice having it open, sticking my hand up and catching the cool breezes off the coast. My biggest objection is that I hear they tend to leak. Also, if the power accessory fails, is that an expensive fix? Your experiences?

ACURA UNVEILS NEW RDX RALLY EDITION "Consumption is the key," says Colliver December 12, 2006 -- TORRANCE, Calif. -- Acura takes center stage again by unveiling a prototype of the RDX Rally, a high-consumption variant of its RDX small crossover. "The RDX Rally is Acura's most serious attempt at racing yet," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "With the introduction of this revolutionary new rally vehicle, we not only borrow from the legendary racing heritage of the NSX but completely ignore it by going offroad with a crossover SUV." Similar to the RDX introduced several months ago and currently on sale, the RDX Rally brings offroad features to the …

Here's the situation: Recently my catalytic converter started to go. It's made me start thinking... the car is 15 years old, runs VERY well, but there are a million and one "little" things wrong with it, and the body isn't in the best shape--the paint job is HORRIBLE, and there are some signs of rust in the wheel wells as well as around the door frames. The interior gets wet when it rains because seals are going, and the dash is cracked in half from when my radio was ripped out. The fuel gauge isn't accurate, the transmission gauge isn't either (not that it matters, you know what gear you're in by how many clicks you shift the stalk). Things in the trunk get wet and …
