Why couldn't this have become reality? Why did J-bodies have to be so mediocre? Why doesn't Pontiac have a replacement for this? Why can't Pontiac put that body on Delta? Why can't Pontiac have a compact to go agains't the Civic Si? Why couldn't it have been this? Why does reality have to suck so much? I hate reality... This Sunfire is the definition of my compact coupe dreams...

Name your favorite President or political figure. Doesn't have to be for political reasons. Me? My favorite President is Andrew Jackson. Reasons: Kicked the snot out of a British army, 50% larger than his own, after the truce was agreed on, forcing the British to abide by it. He was the target of the first assassination attempt against a U.S. President. An insane, out of work house painter blamed Jackson for his perpetual unemployment. He followed Jackson to the capital rotunda and fired two pistols at Jackson. Both pistols fortunately misfired. Jackson then beat the man with his cane until his aids restrained him. Jackson fought 13 duels, many nominally ov…

your buddies back? Not saying that I have or ever will, but lets face it....that does happen. So, has any guy ever picked up on his best friends chick or vice versa? And what was the outcome of your friendship if he knows, or if he doesn't? I watched "Dukes of Hazzard" tonight and that prompted this. Go Knoxville!

The Dodge Rampage This K-car based POS like several other useles "Car based Trucks" are still cooler and more innovative than the hideously ugly Ridgeline. Hmm... looks stock to me. :P Call me crazy but even though the Rampage was a K-car I thought it was a pretty cool looking ride. Chalk it up to me being a child of the 1980s and having one of these in my Hot Wheels collection:

Hey, today is Cinco de Mayo! Obviously, it's more of an event in the West, particularly California, as our ties and proximity to Mexico are obvious. Planning on doing anything? I might actually go to a happy hour with some co-workers but I think all Mexican restaurants will be quite busy being that it's Friday AND a "special" day.

After you sue Ford, sue Pepsi, you bored, bored carmaker you. Microsoft should also sue GM for using OUTLOOK. I often confuse the two; when people at work say, "use Outlook" I tell them "its not out yet, but will be at NYIAS." They stare at me weird. Likewise, the atmosphere should sue GM for using SKY.

Obsessed fan spends 12 years building Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Link: http://www.telegraph...-Bang-Bang.html Gordon Grant's labour of love is identical to the original car from the classic 1968 film that was driven by Dick van Dyke. Chitty fan Gordon first watched the musical aged two and became obsessed with having his own version of the iconic car. He began to plan the project when he was 16 and finally finished it three years ago aged 28 - and it is identical in every way to the original. Gordon managed to get help from many people who worked on the original car, including Peter Lamont who was assistant art director on the musical film. Lion…

Is BEAUTIFUL! Standing in the God awful lines for the shuttle back to my house was terrible but I made many, many new friends. Furthermore...the people asking "Wow...is THAT an Escalade?" and the "That Chevy is nice hunnie what is it?" that the DPD were cruising the streets in was pretty remarkable. The city looked great and the Sprint Stage was THE happening place to be. Such a great time down in Detroit and the Big 2 and a half really did A LOT to impress.

Now that I have a decent car, I've been more attentive to the process of cleaning and waxing. What are some of your favorite brands of wax and protective products that you use? Does anybody do clay bar on their paint? I have heard Turtle Wax Ice is a pretty good cleaning solution that comes close to clay bar as far as shine and removal of contaminants but does it in 1/4 of the time. Since I live in a winter climate, I'm looking for something I can apply this fall that will help protect the paint before the snow starts flying. My paint is in very good condition overall, but the paint of the front bumper is starting to show its age a little.

Come Sunday, June 21st, the annual Laurel Festival comes to a close. As with every year, it ends with the car show and cruise at 12 pm. Starting last year, Dr. Steven Greenburg of Brookville opens his collection of Cadillacs to the public after the car show at 4 pm. It contains everything from early '30s Caddies up to a roster of recent Caddies, totaling up to at least 3 dozen vehicles. I went last year and took many pictures, but lost them to computer issues before I could upload them. If anyone is interested in coming, I'll be available to show you to the complex they will be located at. Admission is free and he invites fellow Cadillac owners to bring their own fo…

Toyota's 4th-Quarter Profit Rises 39% on U.S. Sales May 10 (Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp., the world's largest automaker by market value, said fourth-quarter profit climbed 39 percent to a record, buoyed by a stronger dollar and rising U.S. sales of Avalon sedans and Scion compact cars. Net income rose to 404 billion yen ($3.6 billion) in the three months ended March 31, compared with 291 billion yen a year earlier, Toyota said in a statement today. The company predicted profit of 1.31 trillion yen this fiscal year, down 4.1 percent from last year when it had a gain from the rising value of its stake in Japan's biggest bank. There's been plenty of relationship/"who did you bang last week"/"look at that ass" threads here and let me present the other side of the story. The story of the guy who feels confused and (strangely) depressed because he hasn't been in a relationship since the end of sixth grade. I don't know how many people here are single and sick of it, but I know I am. I mean, it was fun for about maybe a year and a half, but then it got...old really quick. "Isn't it funny that when you're single all you see are couples [and when you're part of a couple all you see are hookers]?" Who said that? Jim Gaffigan? Well, he was right. Ah, I'm highly aware of how pathedic it seems to be …

...to replace your current older, high mileage car with a newer, low mileage example of the exact same model? Do people do it? Does it speak of my reluctance to change? Because I'm seriously considering trading in the white '99 Passat for a dark blue 2005 Passat. Or I could get a less lavishly appointed 2002 Audi A4 with higher miles, and an uglier color (silver...bleh), but get more "status" for my money. Thoughts? Comments? Opinions?

Well upon going down to the dealer to get the oil changed in the Cavalier this morning, My dad went with me and we decided to wait for the car, so we browsed the showroom to kill time. We checked out a black 2007 Cobalt LT that 'twas fairly well equipped and remarked that it would probably be better for my mother than the Maxx, he current daily car... I think, along with him, that the woman is just dangerous with any more than 4 Cylinders. We were treated to a 20KPH over the speed limit ride yesterday in the Maxx illustrated this thought pretty well... Well I knew that there were some late model DeVilles on the used lot and we waddled out there to check them out. We d…

Just curious how many of you leave the dealer advertising on the vehicles you own. The stickers/emblems, license plates and frames, or other... My cars don't have any dealer advertising on them. Sometimes I really don't understand why people keep that stuff on, so if you do please explain. Especially if you buy a used car from Enterprise car sales or something. Why would you want people to know you bought a used rental car? For some reason they didn't put anything on my Impala when I bought it used from a Chevy dealer, which I thought was odd. No rear frame or sticker, and no front plate even though the front bumper had already been drilled by the previous owner/…

Recently I have come into posession of a Nintendo Entertainment System circa 1985. I've wanted one for a while, but couldn't justify the $60+s&h for one on eBay. I found a used game place that had one so I traded my N64 (hasn't been used regularly in years) and some games for it. I've got Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3 as well as Duck Hunt. OH MY GOD THESE THINGS ARE AWESOME! (Sorry, I just went reg on you guys) I didn't have one when I was younger (went straight into the Sega Genesis) so I didn't get to spend a lot of time with the NES back in the day and am making up for it now. Reading some of the stories about "missed connections" and driving around town lately, watching all of the "non descript" daily drivers carry people to and from places ... and trying to decide on a newer car (be it a newer one for winter and road trips or an older one for winter only), I've been wondering how many people I see in the "daily driver" type cars are actually car enthusiasts, with a "sunny day" only car (or cars) at home, etc. In other words, if you have "toys" (namely, vehicles that are driven only on sunny days, etc.), would people know that you are an enthusiast by what you drive daily/to work? Or, like me, is one of your "toys" your current daily driver?…

As some of you may know cars are my life. If I had to choose betwen cars and women I would choose cars. Cars are the only thing that kept me going through all my depressed suicidal times... There is nothing I love more than cars...I have been stressing a long time now because I have been trying to find my car, but the car I want isn't easy to find. When I found my car I was planning on paying for it and my parents promised me as a graduation present (my only one) to co-sign the loan for me when I find my car, because obviously I don't have credit which would make it nearly impossible to find a loan (which I am experiencing right now). The first time I put my eyes on that car in Car & Driver, my eyes began to bleed. It looked like a beached whale, and it had a face that could blow off a manhole cover. Not only that but Renault wanted that to be a poor man's Porsche 928. Pffft... Yeah, sure. Whatever you say, Renault. Reliability sucked, styling sucked, the engine sucked, interior... How long is too long a time to leave a political yard sign up? Or to keep a bumper sticker for a particular candidate or issue on your car? It seems that most yard signs were pulled down the day after the election around here, but there are still stragglers, like the people up the street who continue to display a sign for a candidate who lost on Tuesday. I only had one yard sign ('twas in reference to a proposition, not a candidate) and I pulled it out Wednesday morning. My car had one bumper sticker (for a candidate who was elected) and that was taken off last night. The other car has so many bumper stickers (for just about everything imaginable) that someone behind…

Alright guys, I know at the old site we had a long section of someone's ride taken up with just automotive photography questions. I've created this topic to keep from getting to that. My guidelines (please disagree; add some) 1. Use the rule of thirds. divide the viewfinder mentally into 9 equal sections, at the intersection of the lines dividing it, thats where the focus should go 2. Make sure the car is going into the picture. if you are taking a pic of a car, make sure the car isnt on its way out of the picture, make it look like its coming into the picture and towards you 3. Try to use dramatic lighting, taking pictures at …

Cars that sold poorly, but you still see everywhere There are some models out there, like the GMC Envoy XUV shown above, that have a reputation for selling very poorly. Yet in some cases, these poor selling vehicles seem to pop surprisingly frequently. The Envoy XUV sold just over 12,000 copies during it's abbreviated lifetime yet I see them all over my area. Within a mile of my house, there are not one, but two families with two of the poor selling, popular to bash, Pontiac Aztecs sitting in each driveway. Pink Floyd certainly is a bizarre name for a band, isn't it? It is widely thought that the band is named after two American blues musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. There is an alternate story that Syd Barrett got the name from a flying saucer, but then again, Syd Barrett was drugged out of his mind. However, I have recently discovered that the name Floyd means "the hollow." Ponder that for a moment.

I've thought about this a lot of times. They keep adding gears to these cars, but I'm not sure I'm much of a fan. I think six speeds is where it should be limited, maybe 8. My mom has a new Vue XR and it's the first 6 speed auto I've driven. It's a real smooth transmission, but it just seems like it shifts way too much, even if it's hardly noticeable. Yes, technology is getting better in these cars and soon you won't even know when the vehicle shifts at all, especially with dual clutches and all that good stuff. Maybe I'm old school though because I like to feel that upshift or occasional downshift to go WOT. Thoughts on this?

Right now, I'm pretty convinced GM is probably going to go bankrupt, and the government is going to force the current management out in order for them to "save" GM and give them a loan to start over, or at least something like this is what I feel will happen. Anyways, when the "new" GM comes around, I envision a lineup of Chevy, Cadillac, and one other brand. What should that brand be? I'd like to see what everything thinks, just for the hell of it.

In the course of a conversation at work today, I invented something brilliant. The blueprints are in my head. What I'm thinking is a really big t-shirt cannon that will shoot out hoodies. I'm thinking a potato gun with a big freaking barrel will do the trick.

[source: Wall Street Journal] Windows 7 Is Strong, But PC Lift Unclear By NICK WINGFIELD Consumers snapped up copies of Microsoft Corp.'s new Windows 7 operating system during its first week on store shelves, though it's too soon to tell to what extent the software will ignite sales of new personal computers. Sales of Windows 7 have been "fantastic" since the launch, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said at a press event in Tokyo Thursday, without providing details. The first glimpse into demand for Windows 7 came from NPD Group, a research firm that tracks retail sales. NPD said unit sales of boxed copies of Windows …

As I see the new Lexus (help me out on the model number), the Maxima/Altima and now the 2010 LaCrosse, I think the short stubby rear deck lid is, for the most part, hideous. They are sedans, not fastbacks. Not only that, it makes most of the trunk hidden, whereas with a "normally" proportioned rear trunk lid, you can actually look down at things from eye level and move them in, out or around. Maybe, in a rare instance, they might be ok, but mostly they are not ok in my book. Your thoughts/vote?

A little random but a nice distraction from all of the negativity these days. I know there's some Transformers fans among us, so what's your favorite series and why? I've been watching a marathon of my favorite series lately when I have time, so I got prompted to ask.

I heard an interview on TV yesterday with oil tycoon Boone Pickens, and he said that global oil production is currently peaking at 85 million barrels per day, and that demand is still not quenched by this supply. Because of this, the price of oil will continue to increase. I think that some more supply might be squeezed out in the next decade, but regardless, I may be one of the few that hopes the price of oil continues to increase. I can afford to pay $6 per gallon of gas, that may seem selfish, but I feel like that is the best thing for this country. The best motivation for development of alternative fuels is financial motivation, people will only take electric-onl…

Work has been bad lately. We were bought out and we're in the process of merging the two networks. Strangely, even though this was a straight up purchase and advertised as such, it's really turning into a merger of equals. Most of my old company's stuff is being retained as it's more efficient and more advanced than the stuff our new mothership has. Most of the workforce is being retained as well. During all of this, I'm doing some fairly big renovations on one of my apartment buildings. Chest pains from stress are now a common occurrence. Yesterday, I was sent a link to failblog.com and I was laughing so hard for so long that my co-workers were getting worried. I felt co…

Everybody has certain songs that mean something to them or are instantly recognizable when they hear them on the radio--even if for the first time in years. What songs defined your childhood and if you have a memory, list it. Early Childhood Lionel Richie - Dancin' on the Ceiling One of my earliest memories is of this song when I was 2 or so. My dad had this CD and would pick me up and tap my feet on the ceiling...I loved it. Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back in Town I used to listen to the classic rock station a lot when I was little, and this was a song I always heard and liked but could never get fully recorded onto tape from my boombox. It would always come on …

OK, this thread is based on what repair bills for this stuff costs ...we've seen where ABS bills can go. With Series III 3800s came electronic throttle control; thus, there is NO accelerator cable. Now, VVT is on board...reading about it indicates it's somewhat complex and it runs on a powerful microprocessor. Even more interesting/foreboding is DOD/AFM which is available on the 3.9 V6s and on the 5.3 V8s. I'm sorry, but I'd rather do without most of this stuff, but I think I will have to get used to it. At least, I can buy-in after it's been around for about 3 years. What are your thoughts?

Here's the rule. You must use features, designs, and components from currently available vehicles. Stuff from out of production cars doesn't count. For example: Crown Cic body with a FWD CVT mated to a VW 4 cylinder TDI. The interior would feature a center gauge console and column shifter.

A big "no thanks" for me. I thought it was ok for people who needed it to survive. It has now become a sport. I couldn't imagine felling a large animal...though if a moose was headed my way, I wouldn't think twice about pulling the trigger in self defense (I got real close to one on a Canadian Highway near Banff in 2003). There are some people I work with who do it. They don't seem to do it in the Sierra Nevada or in California. They tend to go to Montana or other more remote states. Not for me. Falling asleep on a warm beach on the Mediterranean: now you're talking.

A cousin of mine who is like a sister to me called this evening and asked me to go lot hopping with her. She has almost 100k on her Liberty, and the air conditioning compressor has gone bye-bye to the tune of $700, and with gas prices the way they are, she's maybe looking to replace her vehicle. Here's a list of the vehicles we looked at at her behest: Dodge Journey Dodge Caliber Dodge Charger SXT Subaru Forester Toyota Rav4 Toyota Tacoma Toyota Matrix Mazda 3 Nissan Rogue Smrt Cabrio Saturn Astra 5 door Saturn VUE Saturn SKY VW Eos VW Tiguan VW Rabbit Honda CR-V Pontiac Vibe Suzuki SX4 Jeep Liberty Jeep Compass Jeep Patriot …

I find most forum Topic Titles are so long. It's like the whole story is in the title. Hard to read at a glance. Could we go with an unwritten rule keeping it to 5 words or less in the main title and subtitle? Think of what newspapers and magazines do with their titles. Just an idea. What do you think?

Story Link By JENNA FRYER AP Auto Racing Writer NASCAR said Jeremy Mayfield once again tested positive for methamphetamine and asked the federal judge who lifted the driver's drug suspension to reinstate the ban. The positive result from a July 6 random test was included in a U.S. District Court filing Wednesday that included an affidavit from Mayfield's stepmother, who claimed she personally witnessed the driver using methamphetamine at least 30 times over seven years. Mayfield once again denied ever using the illegal drug. "I don't trust anything NASCAR does, anything (program administrator) Dr. David Black does, never have, never will," Mayfield told The Ass…

Anyways, I thought this was a strange question, but heck, I figured I'd throw on here... A friend of mine is coming back from Japan with his girlfriend, who is coming to live in the US.... She will be buying most of her clothes here, as my buddy will buy most all of it for her. He did have one request-he wants to get her a pair of those tight butt hugger (boot cut, maybe?) jeans... He asked this, knowing I don't have a clue when it comes to fashion. Anyone have an idea on this one? Levis Maybe? Though I must say, she is a pretty girl...(and quite funny too)

I don't know where to start... Tonight, I heard my mom is getting harrassed in work because of me. I'm beyond pissed right now. What they're doing is not right and it makes me furious. I honestly feel like marching in there and confronting the assholes that are doing this. I'm just getting so sick and f@#king tired of the homophobia here in Brookville... I really am. I absolutely hate it.

We had to put one of dogs to sleep today...our Australian Terrier rescue, Nauti (there is a long story behind the name), which we rescued 2 1/2 years ago on my sister's birthday (got her from the county shelter, was a stray due to be euthnanized), had a bad seizure this morning..she'd been undergoing chemo treatement for almost a year and her quality of life had been diminishing. As an aside, I think adopting dogs w/ my sister from local rescues and doing volunteer work w/ the rescues has made me a better person.

So in an attempt to spice things up a bit, I had an idea for a new 'Dream Garage'. It's somewhat similar to one I've done before in that there will be criteria to follow, but with freedom within those criteria. I will give you a segment of vehicle that you can choose from; and there will be price brackets that you assign to those segments as you prefer. Rules- 1- You must have ONE off-road vehicle. Truck or SUV. 2- You must have ONE daily driver. This is open. 3- You must have ONE long-distance cruiser/GT vehicle. It must be a 2+2 or 4 door. 4- You must have ONE weekend back road burner/track car. It has to be a 2 door. 5-…

Paulie! That's who! Happy birthday! I thought NOS would be a little young this time around, so I convinced Chris to be the nude guy in the birthday cake instead. Ofcourse... he wants big $$$ to do it and to make sure that his identity will be kept a secret, so he will either be wearing something to hide his face or be going by a different name. Remember, he's not Chris Doane. Also, I have sold my brother to some creepy old guy that with a little boy fetish to pay for it... So enjoy him, damnit!

Last night the Silverado had a fight with a stump - the Silverado won, but there has been "collateral damage". I'll try to post a pic or two tomorrow. One fender is toast and I'm going to need a grille understructure and likely, a turn signal assembly. Flying stumps pack a serious punch.

With gas prices and some media bashing of people using SUV's only for single person commutes, I was curious to see how many people use SUV's for those uses. My vehicle is a Chevy Avalanche. I work at home but have the truck because I pull a 22' enclosed trailer with it. I only put on around 8k-10k per year since I work out of home. When me and the woman go out of town we take her 32mpg Alero. 50% of the miles on my Av are pulling a trailer or using for hauling misc. items. The other 50% of milage is random local commuting. Therefore my catagory is Mostly to tow/haul. If I didn't have the trailer to pull I would have a car in it's place.

Scientists Harvest Stem Cells Without Destroying Embryo -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Breakthrough technique might get around moral issues, experts say By Amanda Gardner, HealthDay Reporter WEDNESDAY, Aug. 23 (HealthDay News) -- In what could prove to be a medical milestone, researchers have succeeded in generating new lines of human embryonic stem cells without destroying the embryo. The breakthrough may enable scientists to circumvent the ban on federal funding of stem cell research, paving the way for gains in treating or curing diseases such as diabetes, spinal injury and Alzheimer's disease. "The whole goal of …

So at some point I want to/need to find a replacement for the Shadow. It's old and has a lotta miles. I don't plan to junk it but I do plan to just garage it...maybe have a project car in the future (convert to a turbo w/ 5-speed). Just speculation for now. My girlfriend and I have just been looking around online at what cars we can agree on for a replacement and that we'd both like. So for now anyway, it's been narrowed down to the following: 1990-96 Nissan 300ZX Turbo or non with a 5-speed manual.
