Answer the multiple choice questions and it kicks out the city that is best suited for you... Link to Blogthings - American city that's a best fit for you Then there's another one...it's which city you are most like... Link to Blogthings - American city you are most like I've got a problem here. As for the city that's a best fit, I took this quiz (#1) and manipulated the 3 questions which I'm "on the fence" about and still get: 1) Atlanta (duh...I lived there and loved it) 2) Honolulu (no interest in living in Hawaii) 3) Las Vegas (eh...for a weekend) 4) Miami (like the area a lot) 5) Austin (don't know much about it, but I've heard good things) As…

I've been feeling kind of apathetic lately. My job is "just there." I live for the weekend when I can sleep in and then go out and do stuff or take a day trip. Right now, my trip to 2-week trip to Europe in early July is keeping me going. Why this sentiment? -Recession seems too prolonged -Friends have lost jobs and/or getting weirder with their own problems -Lost some money in my 401 that was in WAMU (not a lot, but still) - that bank has been a "staple," is at every major intersection, and made me my townhome loan in a Seattle suburb -Chrysler bankruptcy -Pontiac elimination -GM uncertainty Does it all seem like TOO much? How are you holding up?

Bartenders

I've noticed this for years, but thought I'd pass it along for anyone who might be interested. If you are straight, young and cute, you can make a killing as a bartender working in a gay bar. I got to talking to a 25-year old guy (I mentioned I am a car nut, and he is too) who went to college, graduated with a degree in finance, yet enjoys far higher pay and better hours slinging drinks than he could in the finance racket. In fact, the whole bartending staff at this particular establishment (the Blue Moon in Rehoboth, DE) is straight. I'd say they're being very smart to use their good looks working a fun job, making lots of money toward a secure future. Thanks for …

Well after staying in Rehoboth, DE for 4 days, I now want a place of my own down there. And after seeing so many awesome cars in Ocean City, I now want an old car of my own. Neither of which is bound to happen any time soon, being that I'm single and don't have a partner's income to supplement my own to buy extra luxuries like that. Why does life have to be so cruel?

Coming home from the beach today, it was raining a bit. I had the intermittent wipers on. As it started to rain harder, I turned them up faster, notch by notch, until I got to the fastest intermittent speed. At the same time, I was getting out of town and speeding up on the highway. Then I thought I had a problem, until I figgered it out. As I reached 55 mph, my wipers started working continuously. If I let the car go slower than 55, they reverted back to intermittent. Cool! And an intuitively useful feature. Have you ever discovered, by accident, any cool features on your car?

Went to an autox test & tune day yesterday. I made 2 runs, Em (my wife) made 2 runs, and I made one more run. LOVE the new tires! (Khumo Ecsta XS) Of course, when comparing to the all-seasons I was on last year, it doesn't take much to be impressed. Anyway, on this run, the new tires let me keep my speed up very well. So well, that I ran right past redline in 2nd gear. An odd sound was followed by some power loss, and I thought I could hear the engine "chugging" as I finished the run. Parked it & let it cool down quite a bit, started it up & couldn't hear anything odd. Made one more run, and it definitely had power loss, and I could hear the chugging by the e…

Hey, folks, the Regal turned 17 today. It's got 255,736 miles. It's now "legal" to watch R-rate movies. With 44,000 extra miles needed, I will keep it to try to make 300,000 miles for the hell of it. It's going to the car wash, before it gets too hot here today. Now, if you DON'T OFFEND too easily, here's a clip the car "can watch," so you can too - kind of in the same spirit as the "flying dildo" clip. Funniest thing I've EVER seen: Link to Your Daily Media

About 8 years ago, I had the distinct pleasure of watching someone sit on the fender of my '81 MC SC ... uninvited ... at a local S Elgin cruise night. I slowly made my way back to my car ... and just stood there ... watching him ... wondering how long he was planning to plant his rear end on my car's fender. I didn't wait too long; his buddy suddenly noticed that I was staring at them ... and motioned for him to move. He looked back at me, shrugged and walked away. I didn't say a word, though when I saw him leave in a spotless older (late 1960s early 1970s as I recall) Dodge, I wish I had. You really think I'd have survived unscathed had I sat on HIS car? Now, sur…

We've seen witty/interesting license plates, such as these in IL: BMW AT 40, Pontiac Grand Am TUTH D K, Honda Civic coupe ...BUT ... have you noticed any plate ... ODDITIES? One morning on the way to work, I happened to glance in my rear-view mirror ... and thought I saw the word "S E X" on a license plate. As I waited to turn left off Route 58 onto Barrington Rd, the vehicle went past ... and I looked at the rear license plate ... and noticed that it was a generic IL plate that had "X35" as the first 3 characters. Let me first off say gm4life has been talking about another car since last fall, a pre-owned edition to my fleet. I have taken many peoples advice including BV (scary) and I know I AM NOT getting an Aveo5 or G3. With that off my chest, I went to take my FIRST test drive tonight the story is interesting... First let me say actually my wife is the one who discovered the vehicle I drove tonight, not me or my son. Very odd indeed and she was the one pushing to go see it because she is the one who saw it for sale not my son or I. The car drove well but is in need of new front brakes, and other than that it is very clean besides a few rock chips and one very small dent. The i…

Yup, the annual Ocean City, MD spring car show extravaganza is taking place tomorrow through Sunday. So I'm heading south tomorrow morning sometime. The weather forecast is iffy, but I have my room paid for at Rehoboth Guest House, so I gotta go. I hope the weather's decent. I want to post pictures when I get back, as in years past, but I think I'll only take pictures of Tin Indians this year, as a tribute. Then next weekend is Memorial Day already... time's a flyin'. I have to go to a place called Morris, PA, in Tioga County to see my little brother's freshly-purchased "cabin". Where in the heck is Morris, PA? What is it near? Ah well, can't disappoint little b…

As some of you may know I posted a thread recently about the Riviera needing a transmission. The the day I got the car back the water pump went and ripped my belt to pieces. The grand total was roughly $3800. Now Monday night while driving on the interstate going about 65MPH my car shuts off. I coast to the shoulder and wait 2 and a half hours for a tow truck. Have the car towed 14 miles with my friend's AAA, and still pay $90 for the tow, and now for the good news. I just got a call from the shop telling me I need a engine. The car makes a very loud knocking noise and keeps shutting off. So now he's gonna get some quotes on an engine. I'm sitting here in absolute…

So in addition to tinkering with my car I've started tinkering with my plane. After not one but two crashes yesterday which managed to do a good chunk of damage to the plane, I fixed it up and did another upgrade. It now has larger wheels, because they look cool and more proportionate, but more importantly they make the plane more stable during taxiing, takeoff, and landing on grassy surfaces. Since we always fly in a field, this has made life much easier. Made a huge difference today. Naturally I can't resist an excuse to take photos. Besides, Captainnbooyah wanted to see them.

Hey guys, I've been using my parents' PC, which is infested with the occasional pop-up, and it's driving me insane. The pop-ups are related to whatever website I'm viewing. If I'm on a site about, say, internships, then there will be a Yahoo! Jobs pop-up ad. Sometimes if I click on a link from a Google search, it will automatically take me to a different, spam website. If I click "back" and try again, it's usually okay. It seems like Firefox is working overtime to close these pop-ups - the uppermost "bar" turns light blue, and I have to click on the browser to continue scrolling or typing - though several still come through. It's annoying, and I'm concerned about m…

Guy out driving his 20 hour old Camaro SS gets rear ended by a punk teenager with no insurance or driver's license. http://jalopnik.com/5247902/this-is-what-a...o-ss-looks-like After learning what a totaled Dodge Challenger looks like, we've now seen what a totaled Camaro SS looks like. Better still, it was only 20 hours old! Ouchgasmic gallery below. Bye, Bye Mr. Camaro According to Camaro5, this brand spankin' new Camaro SS was reduced to a pile of scrap by an uninsured and unlicensed teenager ridin' dirty in a Ford Escape. We're not sure about the owner, but we would have kicked this kid's ass. Twice, for good measure. (Hat Tip To Cameron!) [via Camaro5]

I was watching a preview of Transformers 2 and I noticed how much I really liked the Volt. I figured I would make a topic and see how many people plan to buy the Volt at some point in time. I think it's a sharp looking car for an electric car, and I will probably eventually buy one once the price eventually gets affordable if it ever does.

Mom wanted to go to York PA today to look at the Kia Souls and Nissan Cubes. She wanted to go "the back way"... needless to say, we got all kinds of lost somewhere in Bumf@#k, Egypt, then ended up in the deepest ghetto parts of York (with her sitting straight-armed in my Cobalt, muttering "we've gotta get out of here, they're writing on their buildings!"), and finally emerged directly in front of the Kia dealership. So we looked, then looked at the Cubes before heading back to Lancaster and lucking out at a decent local restaurant for dinner. What'd you guys do for your mothers today?

So as you may or may not know, I haven't owned a car in over a year. I've been sharing my boyfriend's CRV. I've never been a big fan, but it saves money and we almost never have a conflict on when we need wheels. Over the past year I've kinda just gotten used to it. It's inoffensive in every way. Today the BF needed the CRV to go one place and I needed to go do construction work so I rented a Toyota Tacoma for 6 hours from Zipcar. Let me tell you... when a very base, 4-cylinder, rental Tacoma feels positively CTS-like, your daily driver sucks. The Tacoma is slow, has more body roll than a '76 LeSabre with bad shocks, and feels like a Camry inside, but it's RWD and h…

First big cookout of the year is going on as I type. Hamburgers on the grill, cold beer and other assorted beverages in the cooler, and a nice little fire going in my newly built (literally started yesterday and finished today) fire pit. Marshmallows are being roasted, s'mores are being made. The only way the night could be more perfect is if it were lit by fireflys.

You don't have to be over ANY age to think this whole thing is amazing. Amazing. Even a 20 y.o. can understand that this lady, like Andrea Bocelli, has one of those "one in a hundred million" voices. I don't watch TV much. But a person in my office told was talking about what happened on "Britain's Got Talent," so I checked it out on YouTube. It was like David slinging at Goliath and winning! She's odd all right, but she's so damn comfortable in her own skin. And a voice that's in the stratosphere. I'm hoping she goes all the way. Have you been following this? Link to YouTube

Shirtless Biden Washes Trans Am In White House Driveway WASHINGTON—Taking advantage of the warm spring weather Monday, Vice President Joe Biden parked his 1981 Trans Am in the White House driveway, removed his undershirt, and spent a leisurely afternoon washing the muscle car and drinking beer. "This baby just needs a little scrub down," said Biden, addressing a tour group as he tucked the sweat-covered top into the belt loop of his cutoff jean shorts. "Gotta get her looking good so I can impress the chicks when I'm cruising down Pennsylvania [Avenue]." White House aides said that Biden pulled into the driveway shortly before noon, the chorus of Night Ranger's "y…

OK, this is a crazy question. All of my college training deals is ultra-pratical -- how things go together and how to look at/evaluate money. Society stereotypes certain jobs as male (miner) and certain jobs as female (make-up artist), for example. Is there an occupation typical of the other gender that you could do, or would do? Since I asked the question, I'll go first. I practically live at Borders or Barnes and Noble, so I could have been a librarian (work with books and information all day, and get paid for it). It's far from my first occupational choice, but it's the only one that comes to mind that is not a male dominated field, not by a long shot. But …

Loopholes on the Death Bed A lawyer was on his deathbed and he called to his wife. She rushed in and said, "What is it, honey?" He told her to run and get the Bible. Being a religious woman, she thought this was a good idea. She ran and got it, prepared to read him his favorite verse or something of the sort. He snatched it from her and began quickly scanning pages, his eyes darting right and left. The wife was curious. "What are you doing, honey?" she asked. "I'm looking for loopholes!" he shouted.

After spending a little time thinking about what the new GM is going to be like, it looks like I will always be out of luck looking for something from them. I'm now down to exactly one brand that I'd even consider generally speaking. That would be Chevy. Even there, the chances that they will build something I would want don't look good. I want a GTO-sized sport coupe/convertible, or a ute, or a wagon, with RWD and a V8 and a manual trans. Yeah, the Camaro comes close - but I want something more individual, and Chevy isn't about that these days. So I'm stuck with the very slim possibility of the VE Ute making a return as an El Camino (or GMC variant, I guess). …

If you've cut back due to this economy, what have you done? Me? Went from a 3 vehicle household to a 1 vehicle household. Became a massive coupon clipper. Began regularly baking my own bread. Doesn't save me a lot of dough (har har) but it's enjoyable, relaxing, and my bread is way better than what you can buy at most stores. If I don't need it in the next 7 days, I don't buy it. Funny thing is, I don't even need to cut back. My income has actually increased over the past 12-18 months. I just enjoy the challenge and my savings is looking great because of it.

Looking for some verified, SPECIFIC dates: When was Saturn announced ? So its that time of year. I'm not a big hockey fan, but I've caught some of the playoffs, as a Chicago native its nice to see the Blackhawks playing decently. But on the NBA side, this has been amazing. If you guys haven't been paying attention, the Bulls and Celtics are playing probably the greatest 7-game series I've ever seen. 6 games, 7 overtime periods, amazing play by both teams. I cant wait for Game 7.

Enterprise records showed zero oil changes after 30,000 miles. Brutal results below. As you might expect, going 30,000 miles without an oil change is not a recommended break-in procedure, and as a result the engine oil completely broke down turning into a thick greasy sludge. After finding this mess, technicians contacted Enterprise to see if their records showed any oil changes, which they did not, though it's suspected at some point at least one change was done as the factory oil filter has been replaced. Of course, th…

I fly back to Germany this weekend to start my new job @ BMW ... I look forward to starting a new automotive chapter in my life ... I won't be around as much as I was in the past, to some I'm sure that is good news ... Just remember I was only a messenger ... I will miss the good folks @ GM, the bad ones, not so much ... 20 years is a long time at one company these days, but looking back on my career at GM, I had a blast and wouldn't trade my memories for anything ... I will keep my eye on GM, I worry for it's future. I will pop in from time to time on C&G, but will rarely post anymore ... To those of you going to BMW because of Pontiac's shutdown, I'll see you on…

While visiting with the owner of my local Chevy Dealer, the subject of GM's future came up. He stated that with 40% of GM dealers being closed, it will be impossible for GM not to file for BK. He stated that GM could not get enough government cash, and doesn't have enough lawyers to cover all of the potential law suits. At the end of the conversation i was in agreement with him regarding this matter. Any thoughts on this?

In a heartfelt gesture, Mayor Bloombeg & the City of New York paid handsome tribute to General Motors, thanking them for their $10 Million spent (plus a fleet of support vehicles) in NYC & WDC immediately after the 9/11 attacks, by purchasing 40 hybrid sedans for use as both marked & unmarked police cars. "These new patrol cars will help fulfill the PlaNYC goal of reducing City government's carbon footprint," said Mayor Bloomberg. "We want to get the most mileage out of technology where it makes sense & with the addition of these hybrids, we're doing that literally," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. Though the just over $1M spent on the hybrids d…

Had a good long conversation with a sales rep there while ogling a white G8 GXP. They have had 4 and already sold 3. They are actively attempting to get more GXPs and GTs, and trying to trade away the G3s and G5s they reluctantly took as stock. The rep reported that most G8 sales are V8s and that most buyers were coming out of Euro brands. Just some food for thought. They have a Solstice Targa inbound.

Fact A: the new Camry is an ugly, bloated looking whale of a car. Fact B: they are building Camrys in the Subaru plant in Lafayette, IN, the same plant where they build the Legacy/Outback (and Tribeca) I present to you evidence that ugly is contagious among cars built in the same plant. Subaru legacy, previous & current gen side by side.

http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/business...24TDY01304.htm I say screw 'em...ship the jobs off to Indonesia, Malaysia, and elsewhere and have them sign agreements so that these kinds of stunts will not be pulled again in the future. This is going to come back to bite China in the end.

Fallen on hard times --- but it feels good to know that milk and honey's just around the bend. Running on bad lines --- we'd better run as we go, Tear up, tear up the overdraft again. Oh, dear Prime Minister --- it's all such a mess. Go right ahead and pull the rotten tooth. Oh, Mr. President --- you've been put to the test. Come clean, for once, and hit us with the truth. Looking for sunshine --- oh but it's black and it's cold Yet, you say that milk and honey's just round the bend. Giving us a hard time, my friends handing us the same line again. Fallen on hard times --- and there's nowhere to hide Now they've re-possessed the Roll…

It's over. I can't support such a company any longer. Because of that, I cannot remain a part of the staff of C&G. I value the friends I have made here, and I don't intend to disappear completely, but this site has always been about the future of GM - and I no longer believe it has one. So, as of tomorrow, I hope to be just a regular member here. I will stop by now and then, read a bit, post about old cars, and be on my way again. To do otherwise would be dishonest.

I heard this song the other day on TV or somewhere and it has been bugging me that I can't figure out who sings it. I have no idea what the lyrics are except that there is a male vocalist that goes "do - do Do DOO" repeatedly in the chorus, while a guitar is plucked. It's a very slow, mellow song...it reminds me of summer. I'm guessing it's from the 70s by the way it sounds, but I really have no idea. I'm pretty sure it has been used in one or more movies before.

So this was probably a day or so after I bought it and I took it over to my parents for photos. For some reason I didn't look very happy. hahahahaha! What's interesting about this next one was that many years later I ultimately ended up driving that GMC Jimmy that was parked in front of the Camaro in the photo. When I got the Jimmy from my Dad (for painting his house) it had about 75000 miles on it. I ended up putting about 70000 miles on it myself before it got ruined during Hurricane Ike. I wish I had more pictures of this car at my house, but I have no idea where they would be. This was my 1988 Cutlass (it was a hand me down from parents). This was taken…

Is this REALLY what everyone is so excited about? Is this REALLY 'markedly' better than the domestics?!?! LOL... What a scam!!! I mean, I know the Corolla is no star and it certainly isn't top of the class. But people buy them in DROVES only to think that they're somehow a superior offering to GM/Ford/Chrysler. I guess perception really is everything. The entire car screamed *CHEAP!!!* to me... I mean, talk about a sea of hard, mismatched plastics! Even the design and layout looked like something out of Fisher-Price. Gawdy buttons and Rubbermaid controls... A sea of gray on light gray with little or horrible texture. Fake woould that looked like it had been airbrush…

went to a local gun show this morning and picked up a new toy. Got a Taurus PT 24/7 PRO Compact. I had looked at one before and almost got it, but backed out cause the show was coming up. the only thing i dont like about mine is that its got the factory sights, the other had heinke straight eights on it, but that will be fixed soon. i'll post some pics later. after taxes and all it came to $445. they had an XD .40 sub-compact for $519 but i backed out cause i like the fact that the taurus is a SA/DA. the XD also seemed a little too... little. Anybody else picked up something nifty in the shooting world lately?

Recently, I've had a guy inquire about my front fender. He's all the way over in Washington state. Talks of shipping have been going on and I'm not entirely sure how to do this for a reasonable price. The length, width, and height are very close to putting it over UPS/FedEx's limit for a large package, which adds a $45 upcharge to an already high price due to distance. I'm not entirely sure I can find a box that will be under the said limit and still be able to fit the fender. Weight-wise, it's just under 10 lbs. Is there any way I can ship this without getting him raped on fees and not likely to go through with the purchase?

MEXICO CITY – A new swine flu strain that has killed as many as 68 people and sickened more than 1,000 across Mexico has "pandemic potential," the World Health Organization chief said Saturday, and it may be too late to contain the sudden outbreak. The disease has already reached Texas and California, and with 24 new suspected cases reported Saturday in Mexico City alone, schools were closed and all public events suspended in the capital until further notice — including more than 500 concerts and other gatherings in the metropolis of 20 million. A hot line fielded 2,366 calls in its first hours from frightened city residents who suspected they might have the disease. …

This beautiful day, I want to go driving. With the windows down, and the warm breeze. A day to forget all the ugly things going on in this country, all this sudden destruction of our stylish industry... the automobile. It has gone from a loved part of life to an evil that some people want to see destroyed. That destruction is here, big, terrible and bright. The other side, the aftermath, looks bleak and cold from my desk. So I'm going driving. It could be to the beach, or to the city. I don't know yet. But I'll take my camera.

Agreed... I may come across as a merciless bean-counter (to an extent I am one, at heart and in training in the context of the Accounting and Finance weighted Commerce degree I'm currently going for) but I have feelings beyond the rational in this situation. My family has bought GM almost exclusively as long as they could afford cars. I have a special kinship to Pontiac and other GM brands, and have had for most of my life. I taught myself to read at three and a half on 1993 & 1994 Model Year Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Pontiac Brochures. As I grew up I learned to appreciate the 1990s and early 2000s GM fare that kids my age simply didn't aspire to. I lusted after…
