I've learned many things. Most importantly, I've learned that I can start a hilarious meme that takes up multiple pages in a thread, then gets its own thread, currently at four pages, and likely to grow. I also learned that my fiancee can tell I haven't shaved by talking to me on the phone. 'Twas either a very good guess, or she could hear my facial foliage brushing against the phone. Finally, I learned that if I need clean boxers, they're on the back of the sofa.

Bob Smith Automotive Group, aka "The GM Giant", in Easton, MD, has closed recently after GMAC filed a 14 million dollar judgment against the dealership for non-payment of loans. 100 employees out of work, the lot empty. Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC and Cadillac were sold there, and Oldsmobile before they were killed. The dealer principal believes his debt can be paid with the inventory taken from his lot, and the dealership is for sale. This is quite a blow to Easton's economy, a small town on Maryland's Eastern Shore. They were one of GM's largest volume dealers, and won "GMAC's Dealership of the Year" in 2001. I worked there for 10 years, 1993-2003. Things a…

I went to see Friday the 13th a few days ago. It was pretty impressive. But I think I liked Jason better as a Zombie because he was more 'supernatural' and didn't need to be human to kill people. You can definitely tell the Texas Chainsaw influence in this movie (The same guy did the Texas Chainsaw remake) Saw The Spirit a while back... Some hot chicks and cool elements, but don't waste your time. The 'mythical' and 'beat cop' elements of this story don't quite mix IMO. maybe they were better in the novel (which I've never read) Now I know why Frank Miller retired after the RoboCop movies (because apparently he can't make a decent movie. First 300, and now this... S…

So my ex gf Nycole is all depressed because she feels unwanted and $h!. I sent her a myspace message telling her I hope she feels better soon, but I also put *keeps opinions to self*. Yeah she didn't ask how I felt, but really. I feel like she really f@#ked up breaking up with me and never giving me a reason that was logical. I always treated her special and she loved it, but she leaves me and then 2 months later gets w/ a ex con douche bag that ended up making her preg and then recently broke up with her. Serves you f@#king right, everyone told you Nate wasn't good for you, but you didn't want to listen. IDK really, sometimes I wish she never broke up …

I'm sick.. quite sick. I think everything is failing me at once. I went to the doctor yesterday after leaving work at lunch because I felt like major crap. Terribly sore throat and back, worst headache I've had in a long time, sore roof of my mouth (cut it open eating a burger Sunday night), swollen lymph nodes in my neck. Fun stuff. So the doc tells me I've got a throat infection, not strep but just like it. Along with strained muscles in my lower back (no idea how I did that). I get put on prescription meds (wow, I don't know if I've ever had to say that other than a couple other times in my life), and I'm feeling much better. Except for the fact that the preexistin…

You'd be surprised that, even in coat and tie settings or in politics, people have always coined nickames for each other...be they good or bad. Some of the mumu ladies at the company I worked for in Atlanta called me the "crumb chaser" because I would "drop by" a buffet another department was holding...I was 5'10"/high 160s at the time, so they had room to talk (???) Some are geographic: "Santa Barbara" (G) - a spoiled, not a care in the world guy I work with who went to UCSB "West Texas" (NG) - a dollied-up co-worker who looks like a beauty contest entry from a small West Texas town for whom that would be the high point of her life "Reno" - (G) a lady with a hus…

Well about two weeks ago a very reliable source told me some bad news... all department supervisors in my high school have submitted the name of the person with the lowest seniority currently employed (in my department, business education, that would be ME). While nothing official yet - school board election & budget approval don't take place until April in NJ - word has spread that there will not be enough money to fund both supplies and teachers for next year. My source told me this so I don't waste any time trying to find another teaching job (good luck I say). Then today after our faculty meeting we have a meeting with the local union president. She tells us t…

Yes, I got a new car. I needed something a little bigger, more practical, and not so racy. I like the TSX but it just wasn't meant to be after all, maybe in a few years when the V6 and SH-AWD are available. I still have my Integra but I intend to sell it. So what is it? Well for that you guys are going to have to guess. I'll give a hint and a picture: It has 48,997 miles on it. What did I buy?

I guess the first question should be: Do you listen to radio much anymore? With the advent of CDs, satellite radio, iPODS, etc., virtually everyone can create their very own radio station, personalized with no commercials. This means that the "basic" radio stations, especially those that have to air a lot of commercials, are losing listeners. For me, one who loves radio, that is kind of sad...especially since it is kinda cool to hear an older song on the radio that brings back memories, even if the whole world has forgotten. Yeah, it's cool to hear it on the iPOD, too, but when you hear it on the radio, you KNOW you aren't the only one hearing it at that given tim…

When it comes to global warming, hamburgers are the Hummers of food, scientists say. Simply switching from steak to salad could cut as much carbon as leaving the car at home a couple days a week. That's because beef is such an incredibly inefficient food to produce and cows release so much harmful methane into the atmosphere, said Nathan Pelletier of Dalhousie University in Canada. Pelletier is one of a growing number of scientists studying the environmental costs of food from field to plate. By looking at everything from how much grain a cow eats before it is ready for slaughter to the emissions released by manure, they are getting a clearer idea of the true …

So I was parked outside of my bros' Theta Chi house @ USC, and in the hour I was there, someone broke off pieces of the address on the front of the house, and afterward walked on my ALUMINUM hood, and my steel roof and rear decklid, causing scratches and dents. A report was filed with USC Dept. of Public Safety (DPS), and in surveying the damage, a shoe print was visible on the roof. I have pictures of it, and it would mean so f@#king much to me if you guys could help me in identifying what kind of show caused this. I have an idea of who may have done this, and this kind of information would be most helpful to DPS in their investigation as well. Here are the picture…

I have traveled to many many cities in America and I am just curious to see what everybody thinks is the greatest city in America. Here are the rules: 1) You must pick a city outside of the state you live in if you have traveled out of the state you live in. 2) If you wish, you may also pick a city inside of the state you live in if you really think it is worthy as well. 3) Optional - Pit the two choices against each other for fun. So here are my picks: 1) Phoenix -- It's dry, hot, new, fresh, and has hot women. 2) Los Angeles -- Because even if there are many cities around it, LA is all encompassing. Entertainment, Beaches, Theme Parks, and lots of differen…

Happened to me today. I have been going to McDonald's last few mornings to get an unsweetened ice tea. Yesterday they were out of ice tea so I said OK and went on my way without it. Today I go into McDonald's and the manager sees me approaching the counter and says to me in front of a room full of customers, that I have the nicest blue eyes he has ever seen. I say thank my mother, I got them from her ... He says we have unsweetened ice tea today ... I say, that's good, I didn't get any yesterday ... He then says, well it's always good to get it as much as you can ... As a matter a fact the more you get it, the better off you are, that's how I feel he said ...…

I just got back from a two day trip to North Dakota for work. We flew into Bismarck the first day, and the weather was horrible...snow, wind, ice. Our plane was a six-seater twin engine Cessna and there was so much ice building up on the wings that we started losing some airspeed as we approached Bismarck. Most of the time we had to stay above 12,000 feet to avoid the ice, which is pretty tough on your body when you're in a small plane that doesn't have cabin pressure. The crosswinds were fierce. I love flying and never get scared, but I was kinda nervous as we were landing. Our poor little plane was being tossed around like a toy. We did our business in Bismarck,…

We all know how much consumer reports sucks at selecting their favorite cars. Well, I read their recent coffee article where they said 'eight o clock' coffee was the 'best'. How the FFFFFFKKKKK does this stuff win a comparo over starbucks and caribou? Ok, now after the idiot moved out, I moved kiddos computer into the living room so we could be together more, but didn't hook up the surge strip, stupid I know. Well, it blew up. I thought the the monitor was good cause it powered up and the bulb was good and the 7.1 speakers made noise when I was unhooking them so I assumed they survived. I had no way to test the speakers because of the 7.1, they have 4 cables to plug into the sound card and the monitor is DVI, and my lappy doesn't have DVI. We all like talking about food. It's too hard to construct a mutliple-choice poll for this, so I'm just listing the food I like. 1) Italian food - some of it is better than an orgasm 2) Greek food - a lot of Middle Eastern food is equally good - there are some awesome Greek combo platters caution: there is some bad Greek food out there and, if it's lamb, it has to be fresh and not gamy 3) American food - reliable The food I can't stand is of the variety that will make you "keel over" from the smell when you walk into the place that serves it - Ethiopian, Indian and Thai Your favorite food(s)? (What foods don't you like?)

I've stopped by my credit union to see about a loan and a $4-5k loan is within my reach. I.E. it's doable. I just need to fill out the application. However, I'm still wondering what my best option is right now. While getting the Cutlass up and running isn't as easy as I'd like it to be, it can be done for probably $500 or so. I don't look forward to having to pay for its gas mileage again either, but it is an option to consider. I could also try for another cheap beater or perhaps a lesser loan of $1-2k for something to get me by until I'm finished parting the Jetta out. Finally, I could go for the full $4-5k and find a true replacement, which I will need to do eventua…

Have you become a fan of a TV show AFTER its original run? Or, have you started watching a TV show after a few seasons have already been aired? For me ... in some cases, I've missed TV shows because I watch something else in that time slot. In others, it is because the show originally ran when I was "too young". Most-recently it is because I'm tired of giving shows a chance only for them to quickly disappear, like ABC's "Eli Stone". The newest "old" show I've started watching is former FOX staple "That '70s Show". I started watching because reruns are on late weeknights here in Chicagoland AND seeing Kurtwood Smith (Red Foreman on "That '70s Show") on CBS' new com…

I've been looking at Google maps' Street View the last hour or two... this is INSANE! You can go to Australia, Spain, etc and see streets and everything! If you're lost... go to Google Maps, then think of somewhere to go (type in Detroit or something). Look at the regular map, then on the left (on top of the zoom scroller) is a little man you can click and drag to the street. Then the world is yours and you can look at many, many places. It's nuts!

BRRRAAAAP! It's music to the ears of a subset of car nuts. Noisy exhaust setups are hardly a new phenomenon, but the fashion for mufflers that intentionally buzz as much as possible is a more recent development in the pantheon of annoying things others do. Exasperation with the muffler rap has led a New Zealand vigilante to start terrorizing cars equipped with what he or she describes as "boy-racer exhausts" in a written manifesto sent to the Marlborough Express. Using the handle "Phantom Expander," the self-righteous vandal has taken to filling the tailpipes of offending cars with self-expanding foam. So far, the four-hour set time of the foam has been the saving grace…

(CNN) -- Super Bowl fans in Tucson, Arizona, caught a different kind of show during Sunday's big game. Just as Cardinals' superstar Larry Fitzgerald watched himself sprint into the end zone on the stadium's Jumbotron during Sunday's Super Bowl, 10 seconds of eye-popping pornographic imagery "flashed" across the screens of those watching at home. "We are mortified by last evening's Super Bowl interruption, and deeply apologize to our customers for the inappropriate programming," Comcast Cable said in a written statement. I Googled this and saw that (1) she already had 6 kids, (2) she is a single mom, and (3) she had to have embryos implanted to pull this off. I read that the latter item on this list is considered very uncool among gynecologists when a family already has a certain number of kids. Unbelievable. This woman has got to be a pimple on California's ass. Just think of the money to pay for the education, health care and possible incarceration of some of these kids downstream. Oh, why did I open my mouth? Our firm hired a new safety director a couple of months ago. He seems like a good fellow, and knows what he is doing on his job. He is quite professional, amiable and good conversationalist. During one of the safety meetings, he told us that he raced his vehicles, and will be more than happy to start a club for at our firm so young dudes and dudesses (yeah there are a couple of gearheaded girls like our own GMpartsgirl) of our firm can race and enjoy. The conversation was going great. I asked him what vehicle he drove; to which he said a 2008 Civic Si, with some modifications in progress. I thought it was perfectly fine – different…

Dear Diary: [/color] Massachusetts Winters Aug. 12 - Moved into our new home in Massachusetts . It is so beautiful here. The hills and river valleys are so picturesque. I have a beautiful old oak tree in my front yard. Can hardly wait to see the change in the seasons. This is truly God's Country. Oct. 14 - Massachusetts is such a gorgeous place to live, one of the real special places on Earth. The leaves are turning a multitude of different colors. I love all of the shades of reds, oranges and yellows, they are so bright. I want to walk through all of the beautiful hills and spot some white tail deer.. They are so graceful, cer…

Two weekends ago my foster uncle was in Tampa looking for a fifth wheel at the Tampa International RV show. He was really interested in a couple of RV's and is planning to make a purchase soon. In October 2008, he bought a brand new half ton pickup truck and has put less than 3,000 miles on it. Since he is considering to buy this fifth wheel, he wants a 1-ton, diesel, F350 and does not want to keep more than one truck in his fleet. During our conversation, he offered me his existing truck at almost 60% of the price he paid. The truck is a quad cab, with its most powerful engine, upgraded stereo, cloth seats, 4x4, and other goodies. Since it is a non-GM truck, my…

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...9012601831.html Study Finds High-Fructose Corn Syrup Contains Mercury Wednesday, January 28, 2009; 12:00 AM MONDAY, Jan. 26 (HealthDay News) -- Almost half of tested samples of commercial high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) contained mercury, which was also found in nearly a third of 55 popular brand-name food and beverage products where HFCS is the first- or second-highest labeled ingredient, according to two new U.S. studies. HFCS has replaced sugar as the sweetener in many beverages and foods such as breads, cereals, breakfast bars, lunch meats, yogurts, soups and condiments. On average, Americans consume about 12 teaspo…

However not on the terms I had planned. Here goes. My brother started college in Dartmouth last fall, and wanted to come home weekends. Myself and my girlfriend agreed to make the 4 hour round trip to get him and my mother to trip to take him back. That was the agreement. What enede up happening is she was too lazy to do it herself, and we got stuck doing it every week, Fridays and Sundays until vacation. We had a talk, which she got pissy about, but in the end agreed yet again to do it 50/50. Fast forward to last week, I go with her to show her the way, but explain that my girfriend and I want to stay home, so neither one of us would join. This ment she'd drive the way…

My apparent stupidity has taken the life of one unsuspecting Jetta. I was on my way to work this morning and I ended up totaling my car. I wasn't rushing or in a hurry, I was on time. The roads weren't any worse than what has been regular this winter, from my perspective. I drive this same road every day on my way to work. I left around 8:40 am. I came upon this one sharp curve and I oddly misjudged it for the conditions and traveled around it a bit too fast, causing my front tires to slide. By then, I noticed a snow plow coming the opposite direction as I exited the turn, but I kept sliding towards the center of the road. There wasn't anywhere for him to go and I was …

Well, the great Las Vegas experiment is coming to an end! I've decided to go home.....and resurrect my life in southern California..... Basically, ever since The Big Crash that began back in October, I haven't been able to make the kind of money I need to pay 'da bills....and I'm too far behind on my mortgage to keep hoping and hoping that next month will be the month things turn around. I don't have that luxury any more. I made AWESOME money in June, July, August, and even decent money in September. If that trend had continued, I'd probably not be leaving. However, I have a few GREAT opportunities back in Orange County that are offering greater income potenti…

http://desmoines.craigslist.org/cto/981613164.html Recently a deer ran into my car (not much damage, thankfully, but a visible dent on the rear passenger door) and I've been thinking about picking up a cheap older car with RWD to have fun with so I can save up for a new purchase a year or two down the road. I came across this '85 Cutlass today and am very tempted. Not much in the way of pictures, but it looks like a farm car (probably gently driven) and only has 90K on the odo. $1800 seems like a great price. Anyone know the reliability with G-body Cutlasses?

This car used to be parked outside one of my dad's apartment buildings, and although it was an I6, I was always enamoured with it. However, the owner never put it for sale, moved, and I hadn't seen it for the past year. Now it's on Craigslist, and I'm wondering if it's worthwhile checking out, because it'd be a bit of a drive. Last I saw it, it had surface rust, but to what extent escapes me. It's also a two speed auto, so it'll have a hard time keeping up with a Geo Metro. Has anyone had any experience with this powertrain, and if I were to check it out, is there anything I should be aware of in particular with this model? http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/cto/100…

I was searching around like always and came across a 1988 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 2WD with a 454 BIG BLOCK and the Turbo 400. This black beauty has NO RESERVE, and only 67,500 miles on her. Bidding is around 1,200 currently. If I was closer and was half nuts I would snag this thing for a road tripper. Here is the link... I am sure XP, and 68 will fall in love with this thing. 1988 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 2WD 454ci. BIG BLOCK

I was wondering if any of you guys could give me advice on a camera tripod. The one I have is old and well, a piece of crap. It's held together with J-B Weld, lacks the features I want, but worst of all, can't hold the camera steady. So here's my criteria: Durable, but fairly lightweight Must be able to tilt the camera 90 degrees and be able to pan up and down...at the very least. Detachable release plate. $50 is the limit...I can go a little over but I'd prefer not too...on a budget. Now, I'm gonna have to take a trip to the camera store and play with some to see how the features work...because I don't know exactly how a 90 vertical platform works...for example.…

I'm really tired of not having a vehicle and driving the CRV (gag) on weekends. I want something cheap, and even though I'm not an SUV kinda guy, I need one for working on apartments. The CRV has served remarkably well in that role. I want something cheap because I don't want to spend much money before leaving for Germany (which seems to be eternally delayed). What about a final model Bravada? Anyone have any info on them?

Well it was due to come up sooner or later...another retarded has blessed the internet with one of the dumbest posts in history, and so the hilarity must be shared thought the interwebs. Ricer was street racin' yo! Going 90mph. Cop pulled him over and gave him a break by fining him for driving too slow. Ricer boy doesn't get that he got off easy, posts on the internet what he did and what happened, and that he plans to fight it. Then a cop responds to him... I am laughing my ass off! :rotflmao: x1000 http://www.orlandoforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126522

This guy is my hero. He is absolutely insane. Trying to sell a Senate seat, hustling a children's hospital, comparing himself to Ghandi, the list goes on and on. I applaud the voters of my home state for electing a delusional narcissist governor, it makes for amusing television.

Well we finally got our yearly ice storm. So far its only about a quarter of an inch, but still, bad things happen. I was going to get something out of the back of my car and slipped on the ice, hit my back, kinda hurt but not too bad. The drive home was interesting, the LeSabre did better than most other cars on the road, mostly because I'm a better driver than most others. A guy in an F-350 flew by me on the highway (I was going about 30, he had to have been doing 60) then noticed traffic was at a standstill in front of him and slid off the road. There was a FWD Regal in front of me that also noticed too late that traffic up ahead was stopped, so he slammed on his …

This is really hard for me... A few months ago my Grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors told her she had about six months to live. When I last spoke with her around the end of December she told me she was undergoing chemotherapy and that it was helping. Today I was up early and got a message from my father that she had taken a turn for the worse and was very sick, and probably doesn't have long to live. I'm not sure what to do or say...I want to call her but I don't know what to say. There hasn't been a death in my family (who I knew) since my Grandfather passed away when I was around 5, so I have no idea how to deal with it. I guess I'm looking for a…
