My father brought over some newspapers that they saved from summer 1969 when we landed on the moon (hate to break it to you conspiracy nuts, but the United States did really land there). I though that everyone would get a kick out of some of the ads and prices on cars back then. Get your time machine ready because we could make huge $$ with these: They're having a hard time getting rid of this 69 GTO... I don't know $2995 seems a little expensive for a stick... I've got the fever for a 69 Dodge: There are a few 442's and a couple of other Olds you guys may be interested in: A 54 Corvette, garage kept for $950? Can you do $800? I'll take the '68 I…

Today I woke up early with all sorts of grand plans to get things accomplished. I took care of the dogs and walked to the Silverado to go get my morning coffee - that's when things turned bad. The Silverado had a very flat tire. So, I think OK I can deal with that and proceed to attempt to change the tire. Well, after getting all of the never-used jack and lug wrench stuff out from its compartment behind the seat, I take off the centercap and try the first lug. Stuck. I mean really stuck. I fight with it for a while with no effect, then actually stand on the lug wrench - no movement. I start to jump on the lug wrench and It finally started to move. I think "g…

I find most forum Topic Titles are so long. It's like the whole story is in the title. Hard to read at a glance. Could we go with an unwritten rule keeping it to 5 words or less in the main title and subtitle? Think of what newspapers and magazines do with their titles. Just an idea. What do you think?

OK I start a new Job in Germany on September 1st. So I decided to go with a new look, I decided to go with a full beard. So far most of my life I have been clean shaven, but I did have a moustache in my early 30's and a trimmed beard for a while in my 30's too and a goatee for the last 6 months. I've let it grow the last week and it is coming in quite full. Anyone else have a full beard, or had one in the past, any pointers you can give or advice? Let me know.

http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/cto/808179596.html I'm not so big on late 70's "muscle cars," but I have always sorta liked the Pontiac Can-Am. This one is not for the faint of heart, but $1200 seems like sort of a deal if it is indeed a real Can-Am, which all the photographs point to (stripes, rear window louvers, duck tail spoiler, etc.). I'd imagine that just the parts alone would probably be worth it if it were indeed a real one.

By Laura Schaefer Women have puzzled over it for years—why the heck do men do the things they do? Why do they profess their love for you one minute, then ignore you the next (say, when an Attila the Hun special turns up on TV)? Why can they not remember our birthdays? Let science explain some of these conundrums—and help you rev up your relationships! Be patient with his memory The hippocampus, where initial memories are formed, occupies a smaller percent of the male brain than the female brain. If on your first date he can't remember where you work, even though you told him all about it when you met, just remember that size matters … hippocampus size, that is. Don…

I was thinking about what I should do with the Cobalt in the near future, and it got me thinking....which do you prefer, coupe or sedan? I like how useful a sedan is (esp with a little one), but I just like driving around in a coupe (guess that's why I have two )....just something about the feel.... Even though it would be a PITA to get a carseat in the back of the Balt, I'm thinking of just sticking it out with the Cobalt and paying it off...(not too far away) Besides, she has a sedan anyways....and if I pay off the Balt early, I could have room for a few payments...... :sign0200:

I don't know if it's the carnival like atmosphere, or if it's because they only come around every 2 years, but I just love the Olympics. I love the Summer Games more than the Winter Games, but it might just be that I enjoy seeing all that naked flesh in the Summer Games more than what I see in the Winter Games. I want to say I really enjoyed the Women's Beach Volleyball teams this year.

... I just feel like driving nothing but some gigantic coupe from about 1970 with the biggest big block I can find just to spit in the face of current convention. This feeling tends to attack upon encountering a Smart on the street. The thought of some growling, monster engined, coupe that is longer than a new Silverado bearing down on one of these little jokemobiles while spewing raw hydrocarbons through dual exhaust leaving twin black deposits on the front bumper of the Camry hybrid behind me just makes me smile.

Ode to the Chevette HSR
by Guest aatbloke- 10 replies

Just a little act of homage to the old Vauxhall Chevette HS and HSR, one of my favourite rally cars while growing up. In 1977 Vauxhall commissioned development of the HS by transforming the regular 1256cc bread-and-butter Chevette into a 140bhp powerhouse with a twin-cam 2.3 litre slant-four engine mated to a 5-speed Getrag gearbox. It was a beast among hot hatchbacks in its day, but the trend from RWD to FWD in production cars and from RWD to 4WD in rally cars as the 1970's drew to a close meant its days were numbered. At the time, Opel also had their own works rally team separate from Vauxhall, racing Ascona 400's, and latterly Manta 400's. The HSR enjoyed moderat…

While I may hate the summertime cold coffee-based drinks or the $4 coffee drinks, I really like the coffeehouse environment - Starbucks, Peet's, Borders Cafe, B&N Cafe. I go there to write my to-do lists, write other crap, read the paper, think....for me, it's a cerebral environment that has a good atmosphere. And I get by on less than $2, ordering either hot tea or iced tea. Sometimes, the best coffee houses are of the "non-chain" variety. In Northern California, there is LaBou and Bella Bru (each has a few stores here and there). Here's a picture of the new 2008 Ford F150 STX that's parked in my garage: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Well, I never said it was mine! My son Justin celebrated his 3rd birthday recently (08/08/08) and this was one of two presents from me, the wife, and my step-son (the other was a new Tonka-themed boys 14" bike). Warning-this is a rant, but it is how I really feel. This comes in part from Miata net and hanging out with a few of the VW/Audi guys...and talking with people at work or in various social circles. The feeling seems to be widespread that most of what is being built right now is just plain..well..butt awful ugly. I need to know if you all think 2009 is the worst year ever for car design. I just look at what some car makers are building, and I just want to weep. Not to sound like a Cheers and Gears nutjob, but a rusty 73 Maverick on jackstands looks better visually IMHO than the following: Anything from Nissan other than the 350Z or the GTR. Beyond the Camaro and the Volt, there seems to be very little to be excited about in the future anymore regarding GM. When you sit down and look at all of the facts and rumors, well, it does look quite depressing over at GM. The Insignia will not be coming to North America unchanged from its Opel form (even though it has been stated that Saturn and Opel will become one and the same); the Beat will not be coming to North America either, only the Trax, despite the concept's popularity here; there has been no back-up plan for Zeta; the W-Body Impala and Cobalt will live on past the end of the decade; Alpha has been delayed six months; future product plans for Pontiac are b…

Maybe someone says something so stupid, it makes you smile to think about it. Maybe its something so profound, or maybe its something so insanely funny that you think you're going to asphyxiate from laughing. Here is mine: "Why? I was out and about, and bought this for my son's birthday. That got me thinking about getting an RC car of my own. Maybe this 1:24 Chevy Wrangler (I laughed when I saw that on the website) or an FJ Cruiser/Hummer type off roader so I can play with it in the back yard. Toys R Us did have a couple cars that I'm interested in, one is a green Barracuda that looked pretty cool, the other is a Porsche 911 that is incredibly detailed, but $65 for something that I'm going to burn the motor out on then disassemble for fun seems like a waste. Wal-Mart did have a Hot Wheels BMW M6 on clearance, but I hate RC cars that only use AA batteries.

Lately on cable the movie "Demolition Man" (1993) has been playing a lot. I've alawys liked this movie, (1) because it's a movie based in the future, and (2) because all of the vehicles in it are from GM (what a future!). It's not the greatest movie of all time and some of it's plot is a little "too out there" for realism, but I find it to entertain me well enough. Anyway, I've always wondered where all of the GM Ultralites came from as featured in the movie. Many are police cars, but if you look close enough you'll see some "civilian" versions driving around. My dog Lucky developed a limp about three weeks ago. Given that it manifested itself after she a) had been roughhousing with our other dogs and b) jumped off the deck, I decided to have her looked at. The vet on call first said it was a sprain and gave me some happy pills to give to her. Even on the happy pills she still favored it and it got no better. So I brought her back in and the same vet ran bloodwork on her. The regular vet I regularly deal with said the bloodwork came back positive for Lyme Disease, and told me to stop the happy pills and give her these antibiotics instead. One week later, still no improvement. Last Thursday I take her back to my regular vet and …

I just went over to Edmunds, and for $h! & giggles, I priced out an '09 Aveo5. Here's my option list: 2LT sunroof ABS leatherette seats (vinyl, for God's sake) aluminum wheels rear spoiler $17,635!!!!! That's the most hilarious thing I've read all day! I am so sure they'll sell like hotcakes at that price.

Look at it as if one of these would have trickled over into every other issue and made most of what Detroit sold us back then desirable to this day and kept the reputation at a higher level. ETN: Look at the "not building Euro/AUS models for N. America" option to also reflect North American models being so extremely different from Europe and Australian-market GM, Fords, and Chryslers.

Because that is one foul thing to do, one is busy working, and another thinks that lunch that person brought is fair game to take from the fridge and eat or take home. What kind of people think this is cool? What is their motivation? This disgusts me big time, since those types never own up to it. What are your stories, and what have you or another person done about it?

Batman Dark Night: A+ I went into the theater thinking "yeah, like THIS can ever live up to the hype?!" ...but it did! One of the best movies I've ever had the pleasure to get sucked into. ---- Double Penetration XXIV (just kidding!) Death Proof: C- I saw Planet Terror a couple months back, and it was enjoyable... the fake but entertaining scratchy film quality, B-rated acting/cinomatography & special effects worked together well... I was told that Death Proof sucked, but I like Kurt Russell... well... Escape from N.Y. era Kurt anyway... and with all those "merrican muscle cars in it I took a chance ad bought the DVD the other day. Except…

Even though Olds has been dead for a few years now, I still feel like I see a ton of them on the roads. Today I was driving to work and had an Olds Alero in front of me and an Olds 88 behind me, with an Olds Cutlass a few cars ahead of me in the other lane. Did Olds really sell that many cars in its last few years? Or maybe it is just a regional thing; the former Buick-Olds-Cadillac dealer (now Bu/Cad/GMC) has a pretty large store and does a lot of business here.

Hey, have you ever been driving down the freeway on a road trip of at least a couple of hours and seen a Costco near an off-ramp when it's close to lunch or dinner time, preferably on a Saturday or Sunday? And your stomach is growling? Did it yesterday. The economy is clearly sputtering as there were FEWER people in the store on a Sunday at about 4 pm and FEWER tasting stands. If you are unobstrusive, you can manage 2 tastes at any station you like. It will fill you up some and you can sample foods you may not ordinarily buy or find something you will eventually buy. Obviously, I also look at their latest electronics to see if there is anything I need. I also …

Spin off from another thread. I'll update material swings in price. Something that will probably make the news today: The spot price for oil just fell over $4.80 a barrel to be under $120. Currently sitting at $118.58. RBOB Gasoline is down 11 cents a gallon to $2.97.

However living @ home present's it's on battles of trying to save money with parent's want rent so it makes it difficult to save up enough. Here's where I need some help, and no it's not monetary. That question was asked, tongue-in-cheek, during the 17th Viagra commercial during the Yankees-Angels game on TBS this afternoon. It doesn't bother me that Viagra advertises so heavily during MLB games (no matter the channel) what bothers me is that its the same damned Viva Viagra commercial over an over. Come up with another commercial already!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks...6.c0.m245.l1318 This is everything I want in a Suburban with exception of maybe a 4-speed. Completely stripped out. Power NOTHING. Three vinyl benches. Rubber floors. No privacy glass. Barn doors. And a big nasty 454 mated to a Turbo 400 with a 12-bolt. Yeahhhhh buddy!

I mean we're all familiar with Skylines at this point (enough boy racers saw to that) And we know of cars like Holden's Monaro and Commodore due to Pontiac getting the GTO and new G8. But....who in North America knew.... ...that there was a Mazda 929 before the one we saw? And a coupe at that!: which happened to have a Cosmo twin: Speaking of Cosmos, look at the preceding version (looks like a Mustang II or Monza notch) Note: We got the fastback, and hose are extremely hard to find these days. I've seen two ever, probably. Who here knew that Mitsubishi was one of Australia's big 3 (along with Holden and Ford) and built cars like the Magn…

I want to start a group of like minded individuals here at C&G for the return of the pillarless hardtop at GM. Those who want to join in the plea to GM, could put it in their signatures etc. I need help with the acronym. H.A.R.D.T.O.P. Here's a start: 'Hardcore Advocates for the Return of Detroit Tops Only as Pillarless'

Never really thought I'd be posting this, but I saw my first Genesis last night at a "Bistro" here in Houston. It was backed against the valet parking wall (along with all the other nice Toyotas, Lexus', Infinitis, Bimmers, etc, hahahaha!) and I could see it outside the window we were standing by. This is a bad photo - it was taken at night with a camera phone, but you can tell what it is. I couldn't help but think as I stood by the window more or less inspecting this car; how in the world did Hyundai pull this off? Hyundai, maker of copy cat, lackluster Korean cars with a somewhat laughable reputation in America, has designed a rear wheel drive V8 luxury sedan (tha…

No...not me. Though, if I could retire now...I would. I have a LOT I'd LOVE to be doing...he heh. But, no...this is about retiring a daily driver ... specifically an older daily driver. I got to thinking about this as I washed/waxed my '87 MC LS today, a far cry from what I was doing LAST Saturday: http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=24912 At least tomorrow I'll be driving my older 4 MCs.... Yes, I'm looking for a winter beater right now...but, I'm wondering if I should retire the '87 MC LS from daily status altogether. I don't really want to....but, well, maybe it'd be better. So...for those driving older cars (older than 1995, including …

Yup, it's August... the "dog days" of summer. What have you seen out on the roads? This afternoon on the way home from a BBQ at my bro's house, I stopped at his local Chevy/Buick/Pontiac store. Aside from the really cool Stryker Blue '09 G8 GT they had, they also had 3 '09 Delta cars, two Cobalts and a G5... the Pontiac in Silver Green, a color I've been wanting to see for months. I feared there'd be too much blue in it, making it a sort of sickly teal color, but my fears were unfounded, imo. It's a goodlooking color, imo, and dark enough to show off the chrome exterior trim package that's available on Cobalts. For the last few weeks, I've been thinking an '09 Cob…

So, I never did fix my computer. After 7 months, it's gotten to the point where my desktop works most of the time. However, it still has moments when it disappears. I've singled the issue down to the file rundll32.exe. I apparently have some bad .dll files that were added by the virus that my anti-virus software doesn't seem to detect. Specifically, there's one that keeps attacking my Mozilla Firefox and causing it close when it's being run. Before this, I got rid of a bad driver that was causing pop ups. I hoped it was the main cause of everything, but it wasn't. I always figured rundll32.exe was the problem itself, but it's where it should be and is obviously Windows so…
