While the Lounge is for members only, there are two key points we wish to have our members abide by:
1) Please use office talk. Talk that you would not use around the office, or infront of your boss for that matter, please do not use here on C&G
2) No political talk. There are plenty of forums on the 'net for that. Lets keep C&G free of political talk.

With most of my free time eaten up by work, I don't get many chances to take pictures anymore, shame since its what I love to do. Wish I could make a carrier out of it. Anyway, drove by the river on my way home from work and it looked too inviting to pass up on, so here's just a couple good photos I took In them is part of the L. S. Starrett Company building, which is based in Athol and apparently the last precision tool manufacturer to produce tools in the US.

It looks like I'll be moving to Canada in a few months. I don't yet know if I'll be moving to Newfoundland or Ontario ... that really depends on the job application that my wife has for a position in Ottawa. One thing I need to ask about are regulations dealing with after market driving lights. I have a couple of sets of Cibie Super Oscars that I've been using on my cars in Australia for the past 35 years. I'm wondering if I should sell them before I leave or pack them up and bring them with me.

What is the worst thing you've ever done to a car to make it workable? i.e. I don't have the money to fix it right, so out comes the duct tape. Worst for me wasn't my car, but I helped my buddy do it... He had a '96 Cavalier. The front section on the frames of the J-bodies are extremely weak. If you hit anything in the front, the whole front of the car will come back and the door will buckle the quarter panel the next time you open it (seen this a few times!). This was not what happened to him, however. This was even worse - 2 people got in a fight beside his car while the door was open, and one of them got pushed in to the inside of the door, pushin…

Discussing with some friends lately new vehicles. Many are sticking to the type of vehicle that they currently have now (CUVs, pickups, sedans, etc). So we got on the topic of what vehicle would interest you that is outside of your norm but would be an appropriate daily driver to replace the type of vehicle that you currently own. This is not a "what ultimate vehicle would you choose if money were no issue" scenario. It's a scenario where you don't get the vehicle you prefer; for me that means no pickup or SUV. So I'll start this off. If I were buying a vehicle today outside of a pickup or SUV, I would choose: 1) 2014 Chevrolet Impala - I'm smitten by this new Impa…

Whatsup guys, I know I'm kinda new to the forums, but just wanted to say how I have seen a lot of skill in the showroom section, with people chopping, specially Nos and Plumcrazy (sorry if i mispelled ur name), and i was thinking how the people on this forum should get more into chopping and designing cars, and especially in the contest section. I think even if the majority of people on this forum might not know how to chop cars, you guys still should give it a shot, because it would be cool to see maybe more than 6 or 7 entries in the contest. I would like to see probly like 15-20 entries, i mean out of more than 1,000 people on this forums, only 6-7 make contest c…

I just read up on FrostWire (a P2P program that is based on LimeWire) and I like the features. It sounds like a nice way to reach out and grab some bootlegs and get into some bands I've been meaning to listen to. I also like the fact that, in addition to that fact Frost wire offers what LW Basic offers, you get some of LW's premium features as well. I just got to know one thing: is the program clean and, if not, is there a way to clean it up. I don't want to do system restore twice a month. If you know anything, drop a line here. Thanks.

So the other day while at a junkyard I notice a mid 70s Datsun pickup sitting there, sinking into the mud slowly but surely. And I noticed the old school obnoxious Datsun emblem was still attached to the frail plastic grille. Well, I've been waiting to find a big Datsun emblem so I could replace the NISSAN badge on the grill of the Maxima so this was the day. Check out the results below. Also, in another thread recently I said I'd post the pictures of the custom cut vinyl decals I affixed to the Datsun. Here they are... Clockwise from top left: Just below the passanger side headlight, driver's side fender & trunklid. Yes it's ric…

So I was driving home on a two-lane road, and see a possum crossing the street. I slow down to make sure he gets across my side, and he successfully did. However, there was a car coming in the oncoming lane that he wasn't so fortunate to avoid, and I had the unpleasant experience of hearing its death. I was probably 15 feet from where he was hit as I was driving by. I hear a thud-caa-runch and then a second later a nasty splatter. Not something I ever want to hear again. Gross.

I wanted to spruce up my desktop a little bit, so I made a GM wallpaper that is an optimistic look at where the company has been and where it's headed. It's sized for my monitor, which is widescreen (1280x1060 I think) but could probably be used on regular monitor dimensions if the "stretch to fit" option isn't selected. ~800x600 Full size image: http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/9645/gmbackground2vd8.jpg

What GM movie car do you like the best- To me it's the Impala ragtop in Boyz in the Hood. What's yours? Wasn't it a Pontiac Grand Am or something in that really wild chase in The French Connection? Also like... The 58 Chevy and 55 Chevy from American Graffiti, the movie Two Lane Blacktop, and theTrans Am in smokey and the Bandit. Non GM car things that were obviously cool were the chase in Bullet, but I loved watching Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. The ending where the Charger slams into the train I saw when I was like 7 years old and it was my first real taste of movie violence involving a car. That scene has stayed with me for a long time. * The June 2007 story grabbed my attention: 1957 Plymouth Belvedere unearthed in Tulsa OK, a Route 66 town. I know several people who were there in person. I watched it live on the internet before we left for Dad's team's softball game that Friday evening. The car has been above ground 5 years, after being under ground 50. But, hardly any news; my main 2 sources don't seem to be very up-to-date. Maybe I'm the only one curious as to what has happened or is happening to the car...? The HCCP grand finale show is today at Delaware County Community College in Media, PA. This is a huge event with cars from the brass era to today, and is laid out in tiered parking lots that are divided into categories. If you are within striking distance, you ought to make the trip. It is usually 700+ cars, and features a flea market. I'll be going at some point during the day. The event runs from now (10 AM) until about 3PM. I've already been seeing the classics cruising RT 252 on their way to the show.

Earlier this week, I had an "uh oh" moment on the way home. I was in the right lane of a 2-lane road and was trying to get over into the left lane. I kept checking my rearview mirror and glancing back to see if anyone was coming, but a Ford Explorer kept speeding up and slowing down such that I wasn't able to get over. In the meantime, the minivan ahead of me suddenly slammed on its brakes ... apparently because someone else had slowed down to turn right onto another street. At the time that I looked back ahead of me (I had been checking the rearview mirror), I panicked ... and hit the brakes, thinking I was going to hit the minivan. My '87 MC LS screeched to a halt …

If I seem overly asshole-ish, it's because I'm what you would call struck in an emotional rut right now. I feel like I'm on the verge of a mental breakdown and it's killing me. I'm overly stressed and lacking anything to lift my spirit. Not to sound like a broken record, but my Bday is what really brought me down. Ever since, I feel like I've slipped back into depression. Last night, I was nearly in tears. I don't know why I can't shake this off like usual. I keep holding things in and no matter how hard I try, I can't release it, I can't move on. So much so that it aggravates me and I continue to be able to release it. I feel as if I'm just going to explode in a blast of…

Last night, a friend of mine was driving his VW Golf on Highway 20 going about 70 MPH when he reached down for a Gatorade bottle and ended up drifting onto the gravel shoulder. He tried to correct it but lost control and rolled into the ditch at least five times according to witnesses. He hadn't been drinking or anything. Luckily, he was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags went off. If you look at the roof on the passenger side, it's dented in pretty deep. Another friend of mine almost rode with him but had to change plans at the last minute. If he had ridden with him, he probably wouldn't be here today. Scary stuff. He ended up walking away from the scene with min…

I was just scanning MSN when I saw this piece of BS: Eventually, you get to the Delorenzo article "Hell Freezes over," but first you see a picture that says, "GM: What went wrong. Here's why Toyota became #1 and is likely to stay there." So, apparently GM is now "dead" because they are no longer #1 (for the first quarter, I might add). WTF? This is the most deceiving headline I've seen in quite a while, and to say that GM is now "dead" because they were outsold by Toyota by a relatively small margin in the first quarter in global sales is ridiculous. Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, VW, and every other carmaker besides Toyota must be dead too. And until r…

By George Kiriyama NBCBayArea.com updated 35 minutes ago On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population. Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office. "They said we…

I'm in my car sitting at a stoplight when I feel a huge bump and look in my mirror to see a cab has run into me. Driver was drinking from a water bottle and dropped it approaching the stoplight... Well about two weeks ago a very reliable source told me some bad news... all department supervisors in my high school have submitted the name of the person with the lowest seniority currently employed (in my department, business education, that would be ME). In your opinion, what features/characteristics (measurable) should all vehicles from each brand have or at least always have as an option? Feel free to distinguish between trucks/cars, but otherwise it should be the same across the whole brand. A few of my opinions as Examples: Cadillac: HID projector headlights, LED signal lights all around, offer nav (maybe should be standard) Buick: LED tail lights, fog lights, offer nav Also feel free to do this in reverse, like: Nav: Cadillac (standard), Buick (always available option), GMC (always available option) So, what do you think? Let's stick to the remaining brands for simplicity.

We've all seen car crash tests, so here is a video of locomotive crash tests. Turn your volume down if you don't wish to hear cheesy disco music These locomotive crash tests were performed in the 1980s after a series of fatal (to the engineer) crashes. The DOT wanted to see how different cab designs reacted in various crash scenarios. They were also testing for something called "climbing"... that is when the impacting vehicle climbs up and over the impacted vehicle. one of the results of these tests where the "safety cabs" we see on virtually all modern freight locomotives. Apparently it made such a difference to the safety of the crew, that when older locomotive…

Fairfield County Deputy Gary Hummel said Thursday the undergarments were found in trees and on hillsides in several spots this week on a road in Berne Township, about 30 miles southeast of Columbus. He says some of the panties were still folded the way they'd come in packaging, while others appeared to have been worn. There were nearly 1,700 pairs in all…

Finally, heading back north again for a little more "stuff" under/in the G8--the new Pedders struts & shocks that were late last time I was up in May and that will finally compliment the drop springs in 'ole G8. Finally. May get it re-aligned correctly, tires checked, etc. while I'm up too. This means a 3+ hour early Saturday morning hike to Bethlehem and as with the last 2 times I've been up back in May, I must say I REALLY like it up there. Good thing I'm dead serious about a career change ASAP and possibly moving back north, just not sure how far north into PA...I'd really like if it just didn't have the winter. That said, while I'm up this time, for any sem…

I find this to be one of the biggest travesties of our legal system where true justice couldn't be delivered because of fame, wealth, political correctness and "concessions" so as to not have tensions in LA erupt after the Rodney King verdict. It must be awful to be the Browns or the Goldmans, knowing that the violent deaths of their kids were not avenged. And O.J. just releases a book "If I did It"...I hope nobody buys it because it means royalties for the dude... but there are stupid people out there. Well, they haven't found anybody yet. Who else had a motive...for both of those two - Nicole and Ron Goldman? Whose marriage was slipping? Where was there a history…

Guys, "LA CAR" an online automotive website about the southern California car culture will be at AutoBooks in Burbank tomorrow, Saturday, 3-24-07. If any of you have time, come down between 11am and 3pm. Located at 3524 West Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, AutoBooks is Southern California's largest automotive bookstore and one of the best places for car enthusiasts to hang out on a Saturday afternoon. It's not unusual to see celebrities, car designers, and others in the industry stopping by (Jay Leno is a regular, who I've seen there before myself.) AutoBooks has been around since 1951. It was begun as a mostly mail-order sideline by Road & Track staffer Harry…

This is an interesting quiz that covers a broad scope of American civics history. The link below shows that as a whole, our elected officals score lower than ordinary citizens in this test. I think that speaks volumes for where this country is at today. http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/2008/...al_finding.html The quiz can be taken at the link below. I had 27/33, which is 82%. The average score for ordinary citizens is 49%. Elected officials average around 44%. http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/resources/quiz.aspx

I heard this horrible joke and I just have to share my pain. A SQL query walks into a bar and finds that there are tables all around him. He says, "Can I join you?". *tom* *tom* *symbal* Thank you. You'll never get that minute of your life back.

By Laura Schaefer Women have puzzled over it for years—why the heck do men do the things they do? Why do they profess their love for you one minute, then ignore you the next (say, when an Attila the Hun special turns up on TV)? Why can they not remember our birthdays? Let science explain some of these conundrums—and help you rev up your relationships! Be patient with his memory The hippocampus, where initial memories are formed, occupies a smaller percent of the male brain than the female brain. If on your first date he can't remember where you work, even though you told him all about it when you met, just remember that size matters … hippocampus size, that is. Don…

Also, on the bright side, I finally have about half of my stuff moved into my dorm room at school. Thank God I won't have to commute all of the time. I also have my temporary parking permit (cuz I don't have my car). And, so far, I just know that although I'm going to want to scream, it will be a most worthwhile experience going to school and pursuing my career!!!

"Once you trade in your vehicle to the dealership, you typically don’t have much power over where it ends up. And that’s usually not a problem, unless your truck ends up in an ISIS propaganda picture with your company’s decal still pasted on the doors. That’s exactly what happened to Texas plumber Mark Oberholtzer, who sold his company’s F-250 truck to a Ford dealer in 2013. While he tried to remove the company’s decal before the transaction, a salesman allegedly told him to leave it to the dealership to handle so as not to ruin the original paint. But the decal was never removed, and the truck was shipped off to Turkey before it somehow ended up in the hands of ISI…

On live TV. They say either he took a puck or a stick to the throat. He collapsed while on the bench exiting the ice, shortly after the Wings instantly called for a medic and C.P.R. began. Lets hope this is not as bad as it looks on T.V.
