  1. Linkity 'Infectious' People Spread Memes Across the Web 08:45 12 August 2009 by Colin Barras The way that certain images, videos or concepts can suddenly spread like wildfire across the web, using email and social websites to propagate, is one of online culture's most unique phenomena. Now Spanish researchers claim to have found a way to accurately predict how quickly and widely new pieces of information, or "memes" as they are called, will spread. The ability to forecast this "viral" behaviour would be of great interest to sociologists and marketeers, among others. The secret, they say, is to recognise the fact that peo…

The other was white lettering on a green background, with a word I've been unable to find in Webster's: "VAGINATARIAN". I'm usually pretty good with words, but this has me stumped. Any idears?

Do you know any place which will fix it and how much do you think it is to fix? I noticed some fairly big names are in the alumni, such as the designer for the Ford GT and Chrysler 300. I've been looking into schooling lately and this campus appears to be good bet for the Automotive Design field and its not overly far away. Tuition and housing would run about $35-$40k a year, which would hopefully be covered by Financial Aid.

I'm just concerned that it will be too weak to stay straight after being fixed. Watcha think?

Sometime in the '70s, I got my only actual pedal car. My neighbor likely grabbed it from the trash around 1974/75 since it was already fairly broken when I got it and my father threw it into the trash around 1980 because even though I had long outgrew it, I preferred wheeling around in it as opposed to riding a proper bike. 57. WTF, right? Check it: >>"For luxury cars with very high sticker prices, depreciation claims more money than it does for mass-market models that cost a lot less to begin with. That's true even for luxury models that retain their value very well. Over five years, the Porsche 911 GT3 — the tenth most expensive car to own — depreciates just 41% from its starting MSRP. By contrast, the Lincoln MKZ, the 10th least expensive-to-own luxury model, sheds about 67% of its base price. But the MKZ sells for around $30,000, compared to $106,000 for the 911 GT3. 67% of $30,000 is a lot less than 41% of $106,000 — that works out to $20,100 versus $43,460, respectively."<< …

Just an idea, not sure how practical it is. Those of you more technical than me may let me know about details and what you think. Basically I was thinking about the mechanics of a hybrid and how it stores braking energy for later use. This idea does not have to necessarily be connected to a gasoline-run system. Think about a bicycle with a small electric motor integrated either into the bottom bracket (where the cranks attach) or into the rear wheel hub. A battery could be mounted on a rear rack, over the rear tire. The brakes could operate this in reverse to generate power (as in a hybrid car). You could then have some kind of throttle for a little electric boost to …

My choices included a Corolla, a Quest minivan, or this gargantuan mofo... Interestingly, as I drove back by the rental lot this evening, I saw a 2007 Camry for rent. It matches the 2007 Camry rental that cut me off the other day. Fleet queen, who?

Never doubt the capabilites of the American aerospace industry. Naturally, manuvering capabilities, not supercruise. But keep in mind this demo was done with a full weapons and fuel load. Check out the little backflip at 2:40. Maybe they should call it the OutFlanker. To quote Cutis LeMay, "If we maintain our faith in God, love of freedom, and superior global air power, the future [of the US] looks good."

Ever get that feeling? I enjoyed our little vacation. Boy, I needed that.... Anyways, I am putting stuff back into storage, only to find that someone broke into it. Just pulled the door right off. Pretty much took all the oil I had in there ( a few jugs of Penzoil Platinum, a mobil 1 jug, and a few quarts of my Napa syn), the washer fluid, and one of my tire wrenches.... Left the X mas stuff, though. It's a good thing I just changed the oil on all of my cars....

Okay, here's the deal: Back about 4 years ago, the company I work for had a company-wide (and this is an international firm mind you), mandatory week-end long meetings in Montreal. We were set to fly out on Friday, do all of the weekend bs and fly back on Monday. About the Wednesday previous, a co-worker of mine (Pete) and I were talking while having a morning cup of coffee. I'm not sure how we got on the subject, but Pete mentioned that a buddy of his in college used to pull this prank where he would tape a dildo to his ankle and then head out to a bar. At some point during the evening, when talking to the female gender, he's casually cross his leg and non-chalantl…

I apologize if it's so obvious it will bite me, but what car is this, picture on GM's corporate website? Some sort of Cadillac? click here Interesting how they went to the trouble of highlighting (or making stand out) those interior controls in blue. [ EDIT ] No, wait, a different vehicle comes up everytime you click on the site. The one I'm asking about is a gray-ish two-door, with a sculpted side, a vent in the fender, and seems small.

  94. CONCORD — It's official: No matter what the Massachusetts Supreme Court decides, New Hampshire won't be collecting sales taxes from Bay Staters who stray over the border to do their shopping. Yesterday, New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch applauded the final passage of a bill protecting New Hampshire businesses from having to collect sales and use taxes on behalf of Massachusetts and other states. The bill, sponsored by Seabrook's Sen. Maggie Wood Hassan, D-Exeter, received final approval by the Senate during its Wednesday session and now goes to Lynch, who will surely sign it. When the issues first arose, Lynch called the attempted tax grab by Massachusetts "outrageous." …

  96. Taking a deep drag on his cigarette while resting on the steering wheel of his truck, he looks like a parody of a middle-aged lorry driver. But the image covers up a much more disturbing truth: At just the tender age of two, Ardi Rizal's health has been so ruined by his 40-a-day habit that he now struggles to move by himself. The four-stone Indonesia toddler is certainly far too unfit to run around with other children - and his condition is set to rapidly deteriorate. But, despite local officials' offer to buy the Rizal family a new car if the boy quits, his parents feel unable to stop him because he throws massive tantrums if they don't indulge him. His mother, Dia…

I don't know how many have ever had this happen before or what it is even called, but a few minutes ago I was reading our local newspaper and it has a section called "Peekin' in the Past" where they print headlines from 20, 50, and 75 years ago. Anyway, one of the stories from March 12, 1986 read: That's not the weird part. A few minutes later I went back to checking out C&G and discovered this post by Flybrian on the Hyundai Azera: I was shocked to see the same description only two minutes later, even though I had never heard it used before in my life. A similar thing happened to me over a year ago. I was at a family get-together for Thanksgiving when someh…

A friend of mine was talking about an 83 year old man who shot and killed another man over a property dispute. He quipped at the end, "How do we know that wasn't just the last thing on his bucket list?" That got me thinking about making up my own bucket list, which is quite the morbid thought at 24. This is all I could ceom up with. --Have sex in zero-gravity
