I've been saying I'd get these uploaded since I joined the site in 2004. Well here they are: several videos of how I occasionally abuse my poor Camaro. The car is tough as nails, unrestored, pretty rough cosmetically and pretty much all of the mechanical hardware is factory save for the crate motor. Enjoy.... & let's see your own shenanigans too! * these are all only 15 sec. quicktime movies with no sound. They were taken with my ancient Nikon digital camera. This footage was taken at the same place where I did my burnout photo that got published in Car Craft. As a matter of fact this was only about 2 months after that photo was taken. July of 2004 or …

I probably have a dash fetish. I analyze them to death. Love all the little details...they tended to be more interesting on cars from the past. More free spirited, not so worried about perfect ergonomics. Dashes from most car manufacturers today have a sameness to them, although there are a few out of the norm. 1930 Cadillac Madame X Coupe: This dash has some interesting shapes/details for the time. 1932 Cadillac Sport Phaeton: Beautiful details. Notice the abundance of exposed screws. I tend to like them as they suggested machine-like qualities. Today our sensiblities have changed, we are aghast at the slightest hint of assembly.

Cheers and Gears used to be constantly updated with new information and articles. For the last several months, it's been fairly static with old news article. There used to be a real rivalry with GMInsidenews on who would beat who to the news. What happened? I like getting GM and car industry news from several sources and have enjoyed visiting Cheers and Gears in the past. Mark

I'm shopping for snow tires for the Camaro. I have a set of the 18" wheels (black heritage wheels on the LS) that I got for cheap to use for the winter. However, while searching for winter tires on ebay to see if there were any deals, I stumbled upon 19" tires that would fit the wheels I currently have on the car. If I can get them for cheap I may go this route instead. The ad says they were on the vehicle for 3-4 months and have "no tread wear." Well of course that's pretty impossible unless they were only driven on for a few hundred miles. The quarter makes it look like there's a good amount of tread left, but it's still hard to really tell for sure. Hard to measu…

"I'm walking down the lonely street of dreams" __ Whitesnake __ 'Here I Go Again On My Own' I never thought I'd say or type these words... "My Monte Carlos are sold." That is, they'll be gone by the end of this weekend (last of July 2012), unless a "miracle" happens yet this week (don't see that being the case). I wouldn't have believed it if someone had told me while I was on my 2011 9,000+ mile road trip that, in the next 12+ months, I'd... ...have my 4th open heart surgery 11/11/2011 (will have another CT scan in mid-August) ...lose my job less than 3 weeks after returning to full-time (still searching) ...attend the 2012 MC Nationals & be hospitalized w/pne…

You usually don't see them like this anymore: 1983 Buick Regal Like just about everyone else here, I have a soft spot for the G-body coupes of the 80s - especially the Cutlass and Regal. We owned a 1984 Cutlass Calais, a 1985 Cutlass Supreme, a 1981 Regal, and a 1986 GP. If I didn't live in salt-n-sand country I'd pick this thing up right now.

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued,"What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?" To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?" Teacher Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...) "Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor winner. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when the…

The premise is simple: you have $35,000 to spend on a muscle car/pony car of your choice. Which engine, trans, and trim package would get your money? Fully loaded Camaro RS (2.0T or V6), Mustang (3.7L or 2.3EB), Challenger 3.6L? Maybe you like all performance and no frills with a base SS, GT, R/T?

I like Formula, but a friend of mine was saying how it has gotten boring, it isn't as good as the old days, there is no passing Mercedes always wins, etc. Which got me thinking how great would a racing league be where all cars had to have a 3800 V6? This way there is strategy in car selection and it would reward skilled driving. Some basic rules: 240 hp max (the GNX and Twin Turbo Trans Am would not be allowed) Stock wheels, but you could put on any tires you want Can remove excess weight like spare tire and jack, can't change the body or remove seats No engine modifications, but allowed to put new oil, filters, spark, plugs, etc to keep it maintained Races…

As those here that know me well I am quite the Egyptophile, however everyone wanted to touch and feel my "Bob", They liked to see me wobble it. I was very surprised. This was a Christmas gift from my wife last year. See my "Bob" here: http://www.brookstone.com/store/product.asp?pid=532994

So I showed my dad the UTE and Commodore wagon today, and he didn't really care much for either of them (he really likes the G8). He thought the UTE was pretty stupid as a Pontiac, and he didn't really like the wagon, or see much point in it (says most people would just buy a crossover). This is coming from someone who isn't a car enthusiast, but certainly more interested in them than the average Joe. Just thought I'd share, since I thought it was interesting that he is considering a G8 but doesn't like either of the other two variants.

Been thinking that perhaps a new sort of isolationism might be a good thing for us right now. Not the old " let's ignore the rest of the world and use protectionism in our dealings with other countries" way. Just a strictly non-interventionist, and locally focused sort of way. The idea of what else defines this idea is still floating around in my head and not fully formed yet. But I see some logical reasons for it. Thoughts?

....I'll try to stick to the title. As most of you might have noticed I've been consciously staying away from most of the political threads, I agreed with O.B.s thread about how futile & damaging they are to the C&G community. but here's a quick thought. Sometimes things seem clearer at 4:00am I've been talking in length with a friend from UPS during our breaks, about the err of our two party system. And then this A.M., at about 4:00am it HIT me. You wanna know the TRUE reason WHY there is a TWO PARTY SYSTEM in the USA? Divide and conquer. While most reasonable, self respecting Americans agree about the important issues, or at least …

In renting small cars overseas, it seems that the French have more mainstream automakers than many European countries. At any rate, the 3 brands I see in rental fleets tend to be Renault, Peugeot, and Citroen. I have driven the Peugeot 107 or 108 (about a decade ago) and, more recently, the Citroen C3. I have a cousin who had a Renault Twingo about 15 to 20 years ago and they still exist, although they've been updated with time. Is there a pecking order as to which French auto brand is better than the other?

Worst Car Showcase Presents: The Cadillac Cimarron Cadillac, since the dawn of its inception until the late 1970s, branded itself as the “Standard of the World.” Everyone who was anyone the world over aspired to own one; owning a Cadillac was a cornerstone of the American dream; lusting over those characteristic sharp lines was just as natural as lusting over a centerfold model in Playboy. Cadillac cars were at the top of the automotive food chain with their vast, vault-like interiors and massive, powerful engines and no other luxury car could ever come close. However, after OPEC formed and the 1970s gas crunch marched its way upon America’s shores, Cadillac’s …

Yes, my furry idiot has blue feet. I have no idea how this happened, and I'm not sure I want to know. I had just gotten back from picking up some food with the wagon (Arkus went along for the ride), when I let him out of the car and took my dinner inside. Zora wanted to eat so I let Arkus stay outside for a few minutes. Big mistake. He went through the invisible fence and was gone. Spent an hour looking, only to get a call from the cops that a neighbor had him. So I went and picked him up ( and got another annoying lecture from another annoying do-gooder). When I let him into the house I looked down and saw that his feet looked odd. In better light, I could see…

CARFAX has been hunting down & suing forums and individuals that allow this kind of misuse of their services. Posting a thread like inquiring about someone using their CARFAX for you, especially if someone then looks up the info & posts it back, puts Cheers & Gears at risk for lawsuit. It is for this reason that we request that members do not post such threads. CARFAX may seem like a ripoff for looking up one VIN, however a lawsuit would be far more expensive in the long run. Thank you for understanding. -C&G Staff

Rob works hard at the office but spends two nights each week bowling, and plays golf every Saturday. His wife thinks he's pushing himself too hard, so for his birthday she takes him to a local strip club. The doorman at the club greets them and says, 'Hey, Rob! How ya doin?' His wife is puzzled and asks if he's been to this club before. 'Oh no,' says Rob. 'He's in my bowling league. When they are seated, a waitress asks Rob if he'd like his usual and brings over a Budweiser. His wife is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and says, 'How did she know that you drink Budweiser?' 'I recognize her; she's the waitress from the golf club. I always have a Bu…

This was posted on WWW.Z28.COM: :o    Sex For Protection -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A man escapes from prison where he has been for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns and finds a young couple in bed. He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair, while tying the girl to the bed he gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom. While he's in there, the husband tells his wife: "Listen, this guy's an escaped convict, look at his clothes! He probably spent lots of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman…

Your car, I mean. Don't call the cops on me for child abuse I mean, back in the days with my Cavalier, I noticed the rougher I drive it, the better it runs. At one point, I pamper it all the time, and it constantly gives me random problems. Specifically, I had this intermittent starting problem which the dealer couldn't diagnose. But then I started driving it rough, hard accelerations, quick starts with no warmups, almost to the point that I'm doing donuts with it. But it ran much better and problem-free. But now, since I have the G6, I have mixed feelings. I don't want to rough it up, since it's still fresh off the lot, but I'm afraid I might run into the "problems"…

So, yesterday my family and friends decided to get together, pack a whole bunch of $h!, and go to the beach for father's day. With me looking to turf my Dahlia Blue 1997 Cavalier, and am looking to buy something new this fall... I've short listed it to a few choices, most with the 3.1L V6 as it is relatively efficient, and I need some advice to prioritize my list before I talk to my used car guy. I'm currently considering: 1997-2001 Buick Century 1995-1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (3.1L) 1995-1999 Chevrolet Lumina (3.1L) 1995-1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo (3.1L) 1997-2001 Pontiac Grand Prix (3.1L) 1994-1995 Pontiac Trans Sport 3.8L/Chevrolet Lumina Minivan 3.8L (The Dustbusters) Now, my gut is telling me that the best choice is the Century because of the JD Power Awards for quality and de…

So I saw in the Circuit City ad that there was a 46" Sharp Aquos 1080P LCD TV for $1200 off ($2499 down to $1299), and so me and my mom went out to see if anyone was already waiting at about 10PM last night, and there were 25 or so people in line, so we scratched that idea. Then today we went to Best Buy just to compare some and see which looked the best (more on that below), and we saw the same TV there, this time for $1399 ($100 more, but it didn't involve standing in line for 10 hours to get it). We compared all the TVs of that size, and decided it was one of the better, with only the Sonys being definitively better. After comparing all the TVs for quite some time, I…

The seventies are much miligned as are cars from the era. Lets look back and see what all the fuss was, say 1975. First, let's take a look at the Mercury Bobcat.

I consider myself to be somebody who is pretty educated. I have a BA in Political Science and Communications. Was 2 classes away from a BA in US History and ended up with a minor in it. I am in law school right now and I cannot understand what the hell is going on in America right now. I know I haven't posted in awhile, but school and working has been very time consuming for me and I apologize to all the C&G fans for not being able to read all the posts here. But really, how is it evil or wrong to bailout an industry that provides 30 million jobs and is only a victim of the American system of the NYSE and instant gratification and rewards? I am tired of everybod…

butt. I'm in serious need of a new chair for my time at the computer, my current chair is 12 years old and is very "tired". The problem is I haven't the faintest idea of what to get or what manufacturer makes the best chairs. So I need some imput and suggestions preferably with pictures. The criteria: must be black Material isn't a major issue Must have very thick padding/cushioning Lumbar support Headrest Recline ( by handle or lever) I don't like seatbacks that move with you Good leg support and perhaps even an extended seat cushion for extra thigh support Be able to support 300 lbs+ ( I weigh about 260, 270 but I like to know my chair is strong)…

I am going to be leaving Monday for a year of fun in the Middle East for Uncle Sam. I am should have access to the internet once I get settled in, but it may be a couple of weeks. I won't be kicking in doors or in any kind of danger whatsoever, so please don't worry about me (unless Iran does something dumb, then I could be in trouble). I hope to be back this time next year for the start of race season. Maybe we'll even have some Chevy Volts on the road by then so nobody has to think about the middle east ever again. For more info on my deployment, see this article: http://www.latimes.com/news/nation-and-world/la-fg-us-iran31-2010jan31,0,4832460.story "No man is ent…

So I have this floor lamp with a end table built into it. Secured by the shaft is casting of an eagle the rests on the table. I remember when I was younger we had it in our living room, but it eventually ended up in the attic when we didn't have a place for it (or it broke, I don't remember). I always thought it was neat, and decided that I wanted to take it with us for my apartment. The lamp shade was gone an the socket for the bulb looked like it was in rough shape, as well as the housing being gone and the wiring being old. However, since they sell kits that let you replace the guts in your old lamp with new ones, I figured I could fix it. In all the madness that was …

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Chevro...1QQcmdZViewItem I'm a little confused. It did not sell for $800,000 so the guy relists it for $1.5 million? I guess if a retarded Hemi-Cuda ragtop is worht $3,000,000 then this is definately worht half that. Gorgeous car. Perhaps in another life I can own a COPO-ZL1 but not this tie around.

After all this time... from when I started posting drawings back in Feb. 04 to when I recently posted pics of my parent's old vehicles... I have lacked the one crucial element that made me use my digital camera... a scanner. Well, guess what. I now have a scanner... Finally! It's not hooked up yet, though. We are going to wait until we restore the hard-drive for 5th or 6th time. Stupid piece of $h! computer... But... Yay! Scanner! Woo! Haha!

The paper work will be filed early in the week. After that he has 7 days to change his mind if he does not change his mind he is locked in and can't go back. Then once that is done, anytime between the 7th day to the end of the year they can then let him go. Taking the $35k buy out, full pension, full health.

All right, I don't think I've mentioned this, but I'm trying my best to put me degree as an English major to good use by writing a military fiction novel. Think Dale Brown or (god forbid) Tom Clancy. If y'all wouldn't mind I'm going to post a little excerpt on here for your reading pleasure. I've really love some feedback. From the first chapter: “Twenty minutes to target, we’re still clean, terrain coming up in ten miles, we’ll need to climb up to four thousand to remain clear of it,” Williams announced to everyone. The MiG-27 that had been in the area was now behind the aircraft when it suddenly turned into a bat-wing symbol. “That -27 is looking in our di…

Pontiac Facts Alcoa made an "all-aluminum" Pontiac. It was a 1942 two-door streamliner and had its engine and other parts made of aluminum. In 1943, Pontiac designed a one-quarter-ton 4X4 truck proposed for build by Chevrolet. Some non-military work started again at Pontiac Engineering in 1943. Work was started on a five-inch Rocket Bomb in 1944. Pontiac also started making a 155mm shell. GM Coaches were worked on at Pontiac in 1944. There was almost no road testing due to restrictions on manpower and fuel in 1944. An experimental Pontiac 6 with a supercharger was built in 1945. An experimental Pontiac 6 with an aluminum intake manifold dual carbure…

So I'm parked at night unloading a van, 4 ways on, doors open... and a stupid ass in a BMW SUV drives up behind me trying to make the right turn. I see his turn signal on... and that he has one fog light out. After lots of waving, they finally get a clue and and put the other turn signal on... drive around... I notice the fog light goes out and the other fog light comes on. Finally in front of me, I see the fog light has switched sides again to follow the turn signal. Kind of interesting. Not sure it was that useful, but interesting. Is this a new feature in the BMW X-series? Any other cars have this feature?

600HP and 630lb-ft from 2500-5500RPM on stock engine? So, if I get an internship and make $10k next summer, who thinks this is a good idea? http://www.ls1turbo.com.au/ The car fitted with it ran a 10.53 @ 137MPH, and it's heavier than the GTO... so that means under 10.5 in the quarter I may need to upgrade the tranny, but other than that it can run on the stock motor, and has a good warranty.
