Finally took the time to take some decent pictures... This is my project car, a 1999 Saturn SC2. I purchased it back in Indiana for $1,000 with a bad automatic transmission that wouldn't shift into reverse. Fortunately, it was able to drive itself home, though by the time I turned into my neighborhood, it would no longer upshift. First gear got it into the garage, where I tinkered on it here & there for the winter. I purchased a number of goodies for it, but the only thing currently done to it is a manual transmission swap with short shifter, and aftermarket wheels. The manual tranny swap probably ran about $500 once all was said & done. I dismantled th…

Well, what to say besides, it's officially mine. I'm not terribly exciting, but still somewhat am for the sake of finally having a car again. Anyways, here's the story. This car was originally purchased by my grandpa for my grandma back in '05. After three years, she passed away last June. She had only put 8000 miles on it. For the last year, my grandpa has been driving it since selling his Silverado. He hasn't really liked it too much. It's too small for him and always complains about hitting his head when gets in and hitting his stomach once he is in. Recently, he's been looking into trading it in. Most dealerships have only offered him around $5500 for it, despite th…

OK so here's the premise I want to have the most utility using the least amount of fuel at the lowest cost with the most comfort for 5-6 people. Some of you with good memories will remember that I posted a link about 6 years ago of the Mad Maxx 10HP Chevy. A single cylinder diesel Yanmar air cooled clone engine coupled to the GEO Metro's manual 5spd via a Comet CVT.http://www.utterpower.com/10hp_chevy.htm I even talked to the Engineer for about 25 min long distance to get a better understanding of such a conversion. My background is I've graduated from LTI in Indy back in 79 and worked as a mechanic (auto, truck & Bldg) machinist & slightly dabbled in the d…

Guys, I have switched to "the other side". In my garage is a gorgeous 2007 Honda Civic Si sedan. Got it last night. My (trade-in) 2006 Mercury Mariner was fine, but I began craving something sportier, more athletic, and with more personality. Plus, I felt like the Mariner was a little too "feminine" somehow. After much online research and then a few test-drives, I was won-over by the Honda's styling, performance, reputation, resale, and little details like the finely-tuned & engineered controls. Example: the turn signal lever & a/c knob operation is VERY slick & satisfying. The interior ergonomics are perfect for me: I'm barely 5 ft 6 inches tall…

1998 Suburban LS K1500 (K = 4WD) Very nice shape -power windows -power locks -roof rack -3rd row seat -5.7L V8 (gasoline) -"barn door" rear doors I was surprised when I started looking at Suburbans at just how comfortable both seats of rear seats are. I could see myself being comfortable in any seating position for a long trip. We bought it because we recently moved to Idaho, and our Saturn coupes just aren't made to get along with hard packed dirt mountain roads. So, we have our Saturns for good fuel economy daily drivers, and the Suburban for hauling people (friends here, or friends & family that come to visit) and for rough-roading adventures. Plus we …

I've had this thing since I was like 3, dont know where it came from, my parents might remember, I haven't asked. But I've decided that I need to restore it. Shouldn't be too hard, the body is straight and most of the parts are there, it just has hellacious surface rust. For parts, all I'll need is a pedal (somehow its been through 3 houses and 2 storage units and only lost 1) the hubcaps, the seat cushion and a a new bell. The bell is there, but the dangly thing in the bell is M.I.A. I found most of the stuff online, my biggest concern at the moment is the graphics. They're painted on, and mostly there. I dont see any way around stripping the paint and starting ov…

We just got back from getting this thing home in driving rain. It's a 2003 Monte Carlo LS that needs some engine work. There's water in the oil and it makes a loud tapping sound. No matter for my dad - he can rebuild or replace engines blindfolded with one arm tied behind his back, so this is a pretty cheap way for him to get a decent car to finally replace the Skylark. It's silver with a grey cloth interior, has the 5 spoke aluminum wheels, and the 3.4L V6. He was impressed with the ride/handling, and it's a W-body so it should be stone cold reliable for him. I'll post pics tomorrow morning.

Well I finally got a chance to take some pictures of my new 9-5. It's a 2001 Aero model with accessory wheels and performance exhaust. It took me about 15 minutes in a big parking lot to get the hang of the standard shift, but after that it clicked and I no longer fear rolling backwards 200ft into a ditch on every hill. I think the Blue Aero paint and tan leather interior go together very nicely, and the wheels are much better than the hideous 3-spoke triangular things that come standard. Here are pics fresh off the memory card:

Well, due to trying to free up more income to look for a nice house I traded my 2011 Silverado 6.2L on Saturday for this 2014 Cruze: Only picture I have right now. My Wife has a 2012 RS just like this only in white with a sunroof. I opted for the technology package with the Chevy Mylink & back up camera instead of the All Star Package. It was $19,835 with the 2K rebate. My Wife's has a little over 50,000 miles on it, and it is a great car! This is the third brand new GM I have owned, and the 7th GM vehicle I've owned since I was 17.

Welp, we finally got rid of my wife's G55 AMG. I've talked about it here a few times but there was something inherently wrong with it. It had left her stranded at least 5 times and us once. Luckily everything was covered under an extended warranty, so it was minimal out of picket and the loaners were covered or just given to us via a couple different Merc dealerships. Anyway, after getting stranded once since we've had our lil baby, my wife finally had enough of it. I tried convincing her a year or two ago when the market was nuts to bail on it and just make a bunch off of it. That didn't happen, hahaha. It's true, I haven't been around lately. There's been a lot of activity on the topic of motorized vehicles in my household. The one I deal with the most has already been revealed, though without a lot of detail. So here, I will add a few more pictures, as well as write on the additional changes that have occured lately. First, as was explained in my re-indroduction page, I parted ways with my Subaru. I loved that car more than anything, but it wasn't logical for me in my current situation. It was thirsty, stiffly sprung, wasn't as reliable as I had hoped. Great driver's car, it was, with a superb engine and drivetrain that I was miss. Some day, when I'm more financially …

So... I was originally searching for a Grand Prix GTP Comp-G, as some of you may know. I had my preferred dealership looking for one, but it had been a few weeks. I decided to check in to see how the search was going. Upon pulling in, this red car catches the corner of my eye. It's sitting in the far lot and looks to be new. "Is that a... Legacy? Oh... I think it is. Wait... *catches sight of a hood scoop* Thats a GT!" Closer inspection reveals it is, indeed, a 2.5GT and it is fresh off the truck with the auction stickers still displayed. "This just might do." After some talks confirmed that they still haven't found my car of choice, I automatically ask about the Legacy. …

The true-dual exhausts, oversized carburator & recent rebuild make it quicker than I expected, this thing is quite the little rat-rod. It only cost me half of what I sold the Mercedes for. I also got some all-season Pirelli PZero Nero M+S tires, which are spectacular and totally transform the handling of the car vs. the stock BFG KDWS. They grip the road very well, and are hard to break lose (I have not broken them lose yet, but I have not gone at WOT yet. Still, the stock BFGs would have broken lose at some instances since I've had the Pirellis on). Anyways, here are the pics:

  65. Started by Northstar,

So as I posted in the "how much car can you afford?" thread, the old '95 Olds LSS hit the bucket and I had to find something. Originally I was really leaning towards the Cruze ECO. However, after driving a 2011 Camaro, I couldn't resist upgrading. It's black/black, V6/6-speed manual. Originally I thought I wanted a 1LT with a few options, but there were none within 3 hours of where I live (apparently no one wants V6/manual). So after realizing the 2LT was only about $700 more than the 1LT equipped how I would want it, I went searching for a 2LT with manual transmission. I found one about 75 miles away and contacted the local dealer about it. It was also the only 2LT/man…

The car had 118,000 miles and a dent in the driver's door when we bought it in February. Since then, we've replaced the heater hoses, put on a set of tires, changed the gas cap, and had a nail in one of the new tires, plugged at no charge. The small star in the windshield has grown from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch, our oldest son drew on the back seat with a blue Crayola washable marker (it didn't wash out), and about nine crayons melted into the handles in the rear door panels. We pulled the panel under the steering column when one of the screws stripped and have left it alone since then because the check engine light keeps going on and it's a pain to reach with the panel th…

  77. Quick summary: I need to factory (or equivalent) replacement springs for a 1965 Impala SS Convertible 283 Long detailed story: About 2 years ago I had ordered parts for my 65 Impala from some website (i think it was impalaparts.com but not 100% sure) and I had a local shop install these parts (shocks, springs, & almost a whole suspension kit). The work was done in Late November so I was getting ready to put it away for the winter. When the work was finished I noticed that the front was up pretty high and the shop explained to me that after putting some miles on them it will drop to a proper height. Myself not being mechanically sound, I believed it. Fast forward a y…

I'll be converting the 1985 Ford Econoline with 115,000 original miles into the nicest tour van that I can manage. The van was purchased on a budget and it will be doing three rounds of the United States over the course of the next two years. The modifications we're talking are mostly going to be to the interior, some electronics, etc. I'll be tossing in all Kenwood speakers, a new CD player with an AUX jack, a loft bunk with gear storage underneath, I'll be pulling out the bench seat in the back, installing a 1600w AC power inverter straight off the front battery. Should be a pretty great steed when all is said and done. I'll keep you all updated on it!

Hello all, Long time no post. I still stalk but don't engage much. There's not much in the automotive world that I am much passionate about anymore - so I'm still paying attention, but not too engaged. Love to see Toyota implode but hate to see belief that Hyundai is the second coming. I've buried myself in history and politics (ugh!)... but enough about me. I just wanted to throw out a pic of my new ride - a 2011 GMC Terrain SLT2 3.0 FWD in Steel Blue Metallic. It has basically every option but AWD and Nav/monitors. I traded in my 2006 Malibu MAXX SS - which served me well and I got good $ on a trade because it only has 32,000 miles on it. Plus the GM card bump a…
