With the model ranges of the two European GM divisions intertwined, a Vauxhall without Opel would seem like an empty shell. New reports suggest, however, that instead of re-plastering Opels with the griffin badge, the British marque could instead continue operations under GM ownership by importing products made by GM Daewoo Auto & Technology. The restructuring of Vauxhall would also lik…

If everyone else is going to build cars like Tata's headline-grabbing Nano, GM's going to pile on, too. The Lutz cites GM's part-ownership stake in Wuling Motors, a Chinese manufacturer of sub-$3,000 utility vehicles as a possible source of a GM Nano competitor. Lutz went on to say that one way to make an inexpensive car for the developing world is to repurpose a legacy platform that has become obsolete. The tooling and design will have long been paid off, and there'll be plenty of experience from the manufacturing side, too. Read the whole article here.

I took 30-40 minutes today and drove through some of the parking lots at the Aliso Viejo Town Center in my city and counted 237 cars. The Town Center is a mix of retail, bars, restaurants, and a 20-screen theatre adjacent to numerous office parks and a medical center. If you're a truck manufacturer, the last thing you want to have happen is a hiccup when you're launching a new pickup. Unfortunately that is happening with General Motors. This is causing GM to restrict the number of V8 pickups that Chevrolet and GMC dealers can order. Now General Motors is saying this is a tempo…

However, GM CEO Dan Akerson wants the company to do better. $6.3 Billion is nothing to scoff at, but Akerson points out that figure equates to a 6% margin. He wants to see GM beat out the 7% margins realized by Ford & Volkswagen. So how will GM do it? By cutting. NEW YORK - The beleaguered General Motors has been wading through huge losses and dismal sales statistics this year. So there must have been a few feeble high-fives and pats on the back in the boardroom, with the news that Chevrolet is set to be nation's best-selling car brand at the end of the year. What must really get their spirits up: Chevy is set to snatch the title away from rival and the U.S.' No. 1 carmaker, Ford Motor. It'll apparently be the first time in 18 years that GM's Chief Executive G. Richard Wagoner Jr. doesn’t find, for a full year, his company playing second fiddle to Bill Ford Jr. and his empire at One America Road. For the fi…

Brett Clanton / The Detroit News Link to original article @ DetNews.com DETROIT -- After letting a no-interest financing promotion expire Wednesday, General Motors Corp. is resisting the temptation to roll out another big summer sales promotion -- for now. GM told dealers this week it will reinstate until July 18 the rebates and low-interest financing deals that were in place before the automaker's "GM 72 Hour Sale" launched nationwide on June 27. NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Deciphering Standard & Poor's ratings reports on General Motors Corp. (GM) is becoming more and more like reading Federal Reserve meeting minutes and speeches. Just as bond investors examine the Fed's language with a fine-toothed comb to find the slightest hint of a change in the bank's interest-rate policy, so have investors picked over S&P analyst Scott Sprinzen's most recent report on General Motors. They're grasping for clues as to what might happen to the legendary auto maker and its financing arm General Motors Acceptance Corp. 61. The GMC Build and Price tool has let the details slip on the power ratings of the upcoming inline-6 diesel due to be released in the Sierra and Silverado in a few weeks. The 3.0 liter turbo diesel will produce 277 hp at 3,750 rpm and 460 lb-ft at a mere 1,500 rpm. The only transmission choice will be the 10-speed automatic. These numbers are SAE certified and verified by GM. The diesel motor will be available on LT and above trims on the Chevy and on all GMC trims except the base. These numbers make the GM six more powerful than Ford's V6 Powerstroke diesel which runs at 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. The New Ram 1500 still hasn't gotten a diesel unit, but it will…

  62. Conservative commentators stoke anger against 'Government Motors' By Paul A. Eisenstein msnbc.com contributor updated 7:06 a.m. ET, Fri., June 26, 2009 Barring an unexpected setback, a "new" General Motors will emerge soon from bankruptcy after eliminating most of its debt, hundreds of dealers and a fair share of its work force — saved by up to $50 billion in federal bailout funds. But while the once-dominant automaker certainly wouldn’t have been able to survive without that federal largesse, the question is whether it can survive its unlikely alliance with Washington — which will hold a 60 percent stake in the company that emerges from the Chapter 11 process. …

  63. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 2, 2012 General Motors released their second quarter earnings report and the results are a bit disappointing. The company posted a net income of $1.5 billion and a revenue of $37.6 billion. Those numbers are significantly down from the same figures in the second quarter of 2011, when GM posted a net income of $2.5 billion and a revenue of $39.4 billion. That's a drop of 40% in income and a 4.6% drop in revenue. This announcement comes a day after GM released their sales results for July, which saw sales drop by 6% compared to 2011 sales. Part of the decline was due to declining fleet and rental sales. The other pa…

Available at the same price as the 6.2 liter model, GM promises the new engine will change perceptions about diesel performance and refinement. GM recently announced the delay of the 3.0-liter diesel until the 2020 model year due to emissions certification delays. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, the diesel produces an SAE-certified 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque with 95 percent of that torque being available at just 1,250 RPM. Luke explains that off-road capability is a major reason why buyers go to full-size SUVs and not crossovers. Owners "just love off-roading with these vehicles. Fast forward to today, where Wall Street calls the shots and everything at a corporation boils down to profit and sound cost structure. It doesn't matter if the employees are sick or dying. Five passengers fit in its chairs, and as long as you're not the poor guy sitting in the middle of the second row, life is pretty good.
