BY MICHAEL ELLIS FREE PRESS BUSINESS WRITER General Motors Corp. shares closed above $30 for the first time in more than nine months on Tuesday amid growing expectations that the troubled automaker could post an operating profit today. The higher stock price put billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian back in the black on his nearly $1.7-billion investment in GM stock. If GM beats earnings forecasts, analysts say CEO Rick Wagoner could tout the figures as proof that his turnaround plan is succeeding and the automaker doesn't need to join an alliance with Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA. "I believe that it will demonstrate beyond any possible doubt that Mr. Wagoner is …

Link to full article @ Reuters Protests to hit GM plants in Germany, Spain: source June 16, 2006 FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Workers angered by General Motors' <GM.N> plan to shut down an assembly plant in Portugal will stage protests starting next week at GM factories in Germany and Spain, a labor source told Reuters on Friday. "There will be enormous disruptions to production. This could hurt GM," the source said, asking not to be named before a formal announcement on Monday about the industrial action. He said work stoppages could even jeopardize the launch later this year of the key Opel Corsa subcompact model, which the world's biggest carmaker is counting on to…

Source Pushed towards bankruptcy A MONTH ago General Motors announced the terms of a restructuring plan designed to help it to avoid bankruptcy. At the time an unnamed member of Barack Obama’s administration was quoted as saying that “you don’t need banks and bondholders to make cars”. He said aloud what the offer to the bondholders had merely implied. For unsecured loans worth $27 billion, creditors would be awarded a paltry 10% of the “new” GM. And unless 90% of creditors agreed by a deadline of midnight on Tuesday May 26th then GM would undoubtedly have to reinvent itself in the embrace of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Most observers reckoned that the deal fo…

Mum is looking at a new Cruze, and Pop is wondering if there is a way to look up a stock # and tell what dealer cost is. Anyone have any info on this? Deal on the table is $1500 from GM Card, $500 for previous GM owner, $470 for loyalty (I may have switched up those last two). Not bad, but could it be better (of course, he'll cross-shop dealerships)?

Bloomberg is reporting that Delta Americas has a three year project with GM to develop GM's new fast charging system. This would recharge a battery with 180 miles in less than 10 min or 360 miles in less than 20 minutes. This is a quicker recharge than Tesla's own Supercharging system. With GM having 20 electric vehicles on sale by 2023, GM is wanting to be on top of the go to for best recharge rate. Currently Tesla is 6 min of charging time per mile, Porsche has committed to 12.4 miles per min of recharge as has BMW and Mercedes-Benz. GM has committed to 18 miles per min minimum of recharge time. Per GM, customers have stated very clearly that recharging of an electric a…

This is THE END. The auto industry is dead. Or just about. It's amazing the stories you hear about car manufacturers from where I sit, in an educated mid-Michigan community that is perfectly suited to retrain autoworkers into just about anything technical that is not auto-related. Governor Granholm was interviewed by the national media all week long, talking about how "the collapse of the auto industry would have a ripple effect throughout the nation." The entire Michigan congressional delegation -- Republicans, Democrats, Communists, Socilaists, all of 'em -- sent a joint letter to the legislative leaders and President Bush asking for help. Automaker leaders o…

Recall of 1.27 Million Cars Mars Toyota's Reputation The Wall Street Journal By Jathon Sapsford Oct. 18, 2005 TOKYO – Toyota Motor Corp.'s stellar reputation for quality took a drubbing with the announcement of a major recall of 1.27 million vehicles because of a faulty light switch on the steering column. Coming on the eve of the Tokyo Motor Show, an event dominated by Toyota, the recall will affect 16 different models, including the Corolla sedan and the RAV4 sport-utility vehicle. Most of the recall will affect customers in Japan, but will also affect 137,000 vehicles exported to markets including Singapore, Australia and Thailand. Toyota said…

12:01 ET AP - General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner announced his resignation today amidst persistant rumors of an impending boardroom coup. Although the GM Board of Directors have not commented to the media, speculation within the industry has suggested that the recent appointment of board member Jerry York could have been the catalyst for Wagoner's resignation. Before being appointed to the board, York had publicly commented that GM should sell off the underperforming SAAB and HUMMER brands, a strategy Wagoner openly opposed. Within certain industry circles Wagoner has been known as "Red Ink Rick," a nickname that references GM's spiral toward bankruptcy and an SEC probe …

GM to launch Red Tag year-end sale Saturday By JAMIE LAREAU | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 11/16/06, 3:57 pm et Link to Original Article @ Autoweek DETROIT -- General Motors will start its year-end clearance sale, called the Red Tag Event, on Saturday, Nov. 18. The sale will run through Jan. 2 and include all brands except Cadillac, Hummer and Saab. The Chevrolet Corvette and Pontiac Solstice also are not included, GM says. The sale is similar to the promotion GM ran last year at this time, spokesman John McDonald said today. "What a consumer will see is a Red Tag hanging from the mirrors," McDonald said. NEW YORK, April 12, 2006 (AFP) - Celebrated auto boss Carlos Ghosn, who knows something about resurrecting dying car companies, predicted Wednesday that troubled US giants General Motors and Ford would recover and prosper. The Brazilian-born Frenchman, who rescued Japan's Nissan Motor from bankruptcy, dismissed speculation of GM's imminent demise as the world's biggest carmaker struggles to reverse huge losses and falling US sales. "I don't think so," he told the CNBC network from the New York International Automobile Show when asked if GM could go bankrupt. "I think there is a lot of potential and the car manufacturer can come (back) from any situation, as…

LETTER TO THE EDITOR Why cancel Buick's Rendezvous? JAMES M. DOLLINGER, Chairman, Dollinger Motors Inc., Flint, Mich. Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am To the Editor: The Buick Rendezvous has sold well, mostly through inexpensive leases. It is Mexican-made, with a French name, looks imported and was promoted as "The Spirit of American Style." Although not an example of classic marketing, it did bring new customers to Buick. Similar to previous loyalists -- Park Avenue lease supports were pulled April 1 as the spring market arrived -- Rendezvous lessees will scramble for a replacement within their budget when General Motors introduces the more…

According to an unnamed source speaking with Reuters, General Motors "is in 'intense' and 'earnest' preparations for a possible bankruptcy filing." The report states that GM could be split into two separate entities; one "new" unit consisting of the General's successful brands (read: Chevrolet and Cadillac) and an "old" unit made up of its less-profitable endeavors (Hummer, Saab, Pontiac and Saturn). If the plan is enacted, the all-new GM would assume some of the debt from the bankruptcy (primarily, unsecured debt) and that GM's bondholders would lose a substantial amount of value if the Chapter 11 filings go through. Naturally, neither source wished to be named, so thi…

Apparently, the banks and funds that own most of General Motors' outstanding bonds were not too thrilled with the idea of writing down $27 billion in loans for a mere 10% stake in the restructured company. In response to GM's proposal to swap debt for stock, a committee of bondholders has made a counter offer. The original GM offer would have given 89% of the automaker to the UAW and the federal government. The counter proposal would shut the government out of the stock swap deal entirely. Instead, creditors and the union would get stakes of 58% and 41% respectively with current stockholders receiving the remaining 1%. The money that the government loaned GM would remai…

General Motors has been mandated by the U.S. government to shed brands as part of its restructuring process. Recent reports indicate that the General is hard at work, as three buyers are reportedly seeking to purchase Hummer, while a Chinese company may have interest in Buick. The Hummer fire-sale has been ongoing, but a brutal economy and non-existent credit markets have made a sale even less probable. Reuters is reporting that GM has than three bidders for the Sierra Club's symbol of excess, with one potential buyer from the U.S. and two others overseas. The price of Hummer is reportedly somewhere between $100-$200 million in cash, plus assurances that the buyer will …

July 7, 2008 07:15 CET UPDATED: 0/07/08 11:33 CET LONDON (Thomson Financial) -- General Motors could shed thousands of white-collar jobs and sell or cease producing certain brands as part of a strategy reevaluation, said the Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter. The job cuts are expected to be approved at a meeting of the GM board in early August. The management may also suggest options for raising additional cash to help GM make it through the downturn, and may discuss cutting certain brands, the sources said. A company spokesman declined to comment on either the job or brand cuts, said the report. GM sells under eight different brands, b…

General Motors is in survival mode right now; cutting staff, closing plants, and reworking contracts. The last thing the General likely wants to cut back on is product, but even new vehicles aren't immune to the chopping block. Automotive News is reporting that GM has postponed production of the Chevrolet Orlando at its Detroit Hamtramck facility. Local United Auto Workers chief George McGregor informed AN that plant management informed him that the Orlando and a planned Opel variant will not be built at the facility later in the year. GM has neither declined or confirmed the Orlando's postponement (it could simply be built elsewhere), but North American President Troy …

The Echo gets some points in the "damn, Toyota is cheap" category for putting the gauges in the circular hole in the center, so that the gauges could be moved for RHD/LHD without a different dash piece. Suzuki did somewhat the same thing with the Aerio, but without it being as cheap and damaging to the design. The dash is very small due to it being digital. There is a matching piece on the other side that you could take out and put a mirror image of the dash into. There is also a cutout for the "passenger" airbag in front of the driver, which is a blank panel of course. So very few panels would have to be changed to change the side the wheel is on, yet it's a very functio…

I was just listening to some of Gettlefinger's testimony in front of congress. He took the same old tired position of how much the UAW "gave up" for the benefit of the automakers. I'd like for him to tell us how they actually contribute to the success of their employers. Just showing up at work every day doesn't cut it. After listening to his crap, I'm even more steadfast about one of the requirements for the $25M loan being the elimination of the UAW at these companies. Without this requirement I'd let these companies fend for themselves. Mulally's testimony is the only one who gives me confidence he has a plan for his company. Zurich — General Motors (GM) sold 522,200 vehicles in Europe's total vehicle market in the first quarter of 2006, an increase of 8,100 units or 1.6 percent over the same period last year. GM's first-quarter share increased slightly from 2005's full year share of 9.4 percent to 9.5 percent. In March of 2006, GM sold 241,160 vehicles in Europe, up 6,570 units or 2.8 percent. Ok, Ford declined offers to sell Volve to Renault. The word is that Renault was looking for an established presence in Europe for which to launch the Infiniti nameplate onto the European market. See article: http://www.autoindustry.co.uk/news/industry_news/11-10-05_3 If Volvo is not-for-sale, perhaps Saab is.. What does GM have invested into Saab that it cannot live without? I can't think of one thing. Saab is yet another constraint on GM's pocketbook. What if GM could sell Saab, thereby ridding itself of a cash-drain and putting some money in it's checkbook at a time (ahem, Delphi) when it looks like it needs it. On February 17, 2008, the San Francisco Chronicle printed an interview with GM's Chairman and CEO, Rick Wagoner. There are a number of interesting questions, such as a query about his job performance: "Q: When you became CEO, you had four main goals. One was to develop a sense of urgency for GM. The second was to become innovative. Thirdly, stretch beyond your limits or imagined limits and act as a single company. Do you feel you are delivering on that? A: I would say those are running pretty well. Basically, the last one talks about the fact that we tended to run our business as a U.S. business, Europe business, etc. To be competitive, and to take advantage of the be…

"But nagging questions remain: Will sales rise enough to justify Saturn's fatter marketing budget at a time when Pontiac and Buick must trim their own ad campaigns? And is Chevrolet, GM's strongest and biggest mass-market brand, actually a better candidate to battle the imports? Chevy dealers say they could easily fit mid-priced vehicles like the Outlook and Aura into their lineups. They also note that GM is promoting Chevrolet as its mass-market global brand."

there is a show coming on tonight entitled "Saving GM" on CNBC by Phil LeBeau Not so long ago, General Motors was the largest corporation in the world and the reigning symbol of American industrial might. Now, the biggest of Detroit's Big 3 finds itself collapsing under the weight of foreign competition, dwindling sales, and a global credit crisis that's left it with barely enough cash to survive. CNBC goes inside GM, from the factories to the suppliers to the executive suite, as the former industrial giant scrambles to survive. show dates are: Friday, December 12th 10p | 1a ET Sunday, December 14th 10p ET Thursday, December 25th 11p ET Thursday, January …

Per thegriffon's request, I am posting a Turbo Edition revised version of the "Saving the GTO" thread. :) Please vote again in this one, please voice your opinion on this issue as it is a clarified poll, and, well, two polls are better than one to get GM's attention with. :P Are you a Pontiac fanatic at heart? Do you lust over the '69 Firebird like i do. That dramatic nose, the raising strong shoulders, all accuentated by a strong yet shapely rump. Ah, beautiful car. Pontiac really could use a revival. A return to its performance roots and design roots are the necessary steps to give this brand a reason to exist, and a reason for people to …

Let me make this clear, this is not a rumor, nor is it speculation (well, maybe just a tiny bit), it is a suggestion to GM. If it makes sense to you, and you like these product suggestions then you may want to lobby GM, directly and through your local Pontiac dealer. Timing for the next major overhaul of the G6 puts it beyond the introduction of Epsilon II, and the current program may be cancelled to ensure strict adherence to the new Global platform. At the same time volume for the V8 GTO has not been high, and the new Holden coupe may diverge from NA requirements. What to do? As the G6 is currently built in a seperate plant to other NA Epsilon models (Malibu and A…

Schwarzenegger may have pushed for General Motors to get lucrative state contract Mercury News ^ | 9/22/07 | Kimberly Kindy Posted on 09/22/2007 8:00:35 PM PDT by NormsRevenge SACRAMENTO - Despite state laws that require government officials to seek competitive bids on large purchases, internal documents reveal that state officials held a series of private meetings with General Motors during which they agreed to buy "flex-fuel" vehicles from the automaker - a month before a bid for such vehicles was ever issued. --snip-- Soon after, the state solicited bids to buy an entire fleet of flex-fuel vehicles designed to run on high-grade ethanol. Scotiabank takes GMAC loans Canadian Press TORONTO — The Bank of Nova Scotia is taking over $20-billion (U.S.) worth of vehicle loans from General Motors. The deal between the Canadian bank's Scotia Capital corporate and investment banking division and the General Motors Acceptance Corp. financial subsidiary of the world's biggest auto maker entails an immediate purchase of $3-billion US worth of loans. The agreement announced Monday calls for committed purchases of GM-originated American car loans by Scotiabank under a $6-billion (U.S.) revolving facility over a five-year period. The loans, described as “a full spectrum of GMAC's active…

WASHINGTON - The Securities and Exchange Commission has upgraded its probe of retiree-benefits accounting at General Motors Corp., making the investigation formal and giving federal regulators the power to issue subpoenas and review records. Toni Simonetti, a spokeswoman for Detroit-based GM, declined to comment. DaimlerChrysler AG said Tuesday that it had received a subpoena in September in connection with accounting issues involving retiree benefits at General Motors. Such a subpoena could only have been issued if the SEC had voted to upgrade its probe of GM to a formal investigation. SEC spokesman John Nester declined to comment. When the SEC started its probe in O…

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2501639 Detestable import fanboys having a field day over Bob Lutz's GM deprecating comments. Back in 2002, Bob Lutz came out with that "apology" campaign in newspapers, wherein GM essentially said that its past products were $h! but consumers should give it a new look because the new GM is changed. So I actually bought into to that and convinced my family to get a CTS at the time. 4 years later, it looks like we've come back full circle. "Just wait until you see our new products just around the corner, they're nothing like the junk we peddled in the past." The spin is exactly the same: in the past we suck…

Harry Stoffer Automotive News September 23, 2008 - 6:35 pm ET WASHINGTON -- General Motors' hopes for a $7,500 federal tax credit to help it sell plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volts may soon be realized. The Senate this evening passed a complex and wide-ranging tax bill, covering everything from extension of credits for wind energy producers to expanded exemptions from the alternative minimum tax. Riding along is a small provision creating a new tax credit for buyers of plug-in electric vehicles – none of which is on the market yet. The credit would start at $2,500 and rise to as much as $7,500 for a light-duty vehicle, depending on battery capacity. A buyer of …

http://money.cnn.com/2005/12/21/news/fortune500/gm. Link might not work so I cut and post the story. sorry Another sobering article about GM's financial problem. It seems like some analysts are speculating about removing GM from the respected DOW JONES stock index. How bad would that be for GM ? NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Does General Motors still belong in the exclusive Dow club? The troubled automaker, whose stock has lost more than 50 percent in value this year, has cost the Dow about 160 points. Without GM, the index would be up more than 2 percent; instead, it's up less than 1 percent. GM's percentage decline is more than twice that of th…

Is Michigan relevant anymore to house a couple of the world's largest auto companies? -Michigan is not supporting the automakers a whole bunch and they may get more support if they were in other states -UAW influences are too prevalent in that part of the country. Moving could be a nice way to thumb their noses at the union bunch -other carmakers are locating plants in the south, etc. where labor is more favorable -perhaps a cultural hotbed like California or a more businesslike city like New York would be more appropriate for such global companies or closer to wall st. -many Americans feel GM etc. are isolated in a state like Michigan and think of GM as a more…

Detroit Free Press covered the annual GM Analysts call this week and with the second quarter results it showed that GM has lost $800 million in the quarter but over all North American Earnings were breakeven and this was with 8 weeks of shutdown. Over all the Stock beat wall streets estimates and yet still sold off in large numbers during the pandemic closure. Analysts had plenty of questions for GM with a major question of will GM consider spinning off their technology arm which would include electric vehicles operations into a stand alone company? The idea of a stand alone GM Tech company is to recognize the advanced tech GM has over other auto companies and t…

By EMILY FREDRIX, AP Business Writer Emily Fredrix, Ap Business Writer – 2 hrs 21 mins ago ValuJet was reborn as AirTran. Philip Morris rechristened itself Altria. Blackwater became Xe. Would a name change work for beleaguered General Motors? It would mean casting aside a brand that stood for almost a century as a symbol of American industrial might, but some marketing experts say it might be just the thing to help the once-mighty automaker make a fresh start. "If the goal is to try and put this company on a massive diet and just turn it into a smaller car manufacturing operation, I'm not sure there'd be that much harm in rebranding," said Jean-Pierre Dube, a Un…

Well today was an eventful, rainy, cold day for a Ride & Drive, but what other kind of weather are we to expect from Pittsburgh? Anyhow... Just got back from the All New Silverado Ride & Drive Event where we pit the new 900 pick-up vs. our immediate competition including: F-150, Ram and Titan. After running 2 full road courses with Acceleration, Hard Braking, Large Off-set Speed Bumps, Lower Higher Speed Bumps, Avoidance Lane-Change Manuevers, and Motor Cross-like curves, I was very impressed with the new Silverado! In terms of Acceleration the Silverado felt more powerful, had better throttle response and really had a great pedal feel. The Titan had the…

3 large pickups don't live up to brawny image in side tests; none rates better than marginal for occupant protection ARLINGTON, VA — The Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Dodge Ram 1500, and Nissan Titan are billed as workhorses, but the side crash protection these 2009 model large pickups provide is wimpy, at best. The trio earns either poor or marginal ratings in side tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Even with side airbags, occupant protection in these crew-cab pickups is no better than marginal. "The size, weight, and height of these large pickups should help them ace the side tests just like the other large pickups we've tested. Not these three," says …

FRANKFURT, Germany — Singer-songwriter Tom Waits said Thursday he has filed a lawsuit against a unit of automaker General Motors Corp. and a German advertising agency for allegedly using a soundalike in a series of European ads. The 55-year-old singer, whose distinct, gravelly voice has won him two Grammy Awards, filed the civil lawsuit this week with a state court in Frankfurt, listing Adam Opel AG and the advertising firm McCann Erickson as the defendants. Andreas Schumacher, Waits' German lawyer, said the singer was approached numerous times about doing the ads last year, but declined, citing a policy of not doing commercials. He said the firm then hired a so…

Saturn Sky rebadged as a Daewoo? Yes the G2X roadster was intro'd at the Busan Motor Show. Like the Sky and the Solstice, Daewoo will be using the vehicle as a halo and a way to lure younger buyers as it tries narrows the market share between it and Kia. We now have a Opel's version of the Sky sold in Europe as the GT and word has it a Holden model may be sold sometime in Australia in the future? Any way the G2X will only be offered and sold as a Daewoo in Asia. This will help add capacity and lower the cost per unit at the Wilmington plant and may make a second Gen more viable if it is sold world wide in greater numbers. Also before any one crys badge engineering …

Sold Out: Saturn Sky, Pontiac Solstice and Chevrolet Corvette Are All Spoken For This Year Date posted: 04-20-2006 NEW YORK — General Motors may have posted its sixth straight quarterly loss on Wednesday, but many of its low-volume sports cars, including the yet-to-be-launched 2007 Saturn Sky, are already sold out for this year, according to GM Vice-Chairman Bob Lutz. In a speech in New York, the GM executive said in reference to the Sky, "All available production for 2006 is accounted for." The Sky shares its platform with GM's other popular roadster, the Pontiac Solstice. Lutz said the Solstice has the best turn rate of any vehicle in its segment and that the car i…

Small GM Cars go Global Gamma platform to be produced in low-cost countries By ALYSHA WEBB | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 11/13/06, 8:25 am et Sketch by C&G member Bearrunner44 Link to Original Article @ Autoweek SHANGHAI -- General Motors is a global company, but so far it has had trouble creating truly global platforms that use huge volumes to cut costs. That's starting to change. Supplier and GM sources say GM is planning a new platform for small cars with worldwide annual volume of 1.4 million cars. The platform, called Gamma inside GM, will provide mechanicals for the next Opel Corsa and Chevrolet Aveo starting in 2009. Final decisions h…

The central mystery of the new movie "Who Killed the Electric Car?" is why General Motors created a dynamic battery-powered auto that drivers loved, only to crush it to smithereens. The mystery, meantime, at the National Museum of American History is why a rare surviving example of that car -- a silvery-blue 1997 EV1 sedan -- would be removed from display yesterday just as interest in the innovative vehicle seems bound to grow. GM, which donated the EV1, happens to be one of the Smithsonian Institution's biggest contributors. A $10 million gift in 2001 paid half the cost of the history museum's new transportation exhibition hall, which was renamed to honor the benefacto…

I usually watch SNL (because there is nothing else on at the time), but didn't catch it this past weekend....and apparently missed a total undeserved thrashing of the American auto industry. It was full of all of the stupid misinformed opinions that have lead over half of the country to buy foreign cars. I love GM and their cars or I wouldn't be here. As well as they have treated me and my parents, I doubt I am going elsewhere. Needless to say, all of the bad press has left me in a funk, feeling a little perplexed...and analytical. So, one has to think of what may be going south at GM. I voted for QC but think it is both this and cost control. I read Consumer Reports. I look at how Toyota steals the show with an uninterrupted parade of "red dots" for the various systems in their cars over the years (Buyer's Guide, et al.). I then look at Cadillac and will see either a partial or a full black dot for some components...and in recent years, no less. …

I don't think R-N tie up is good for GM at all, just for the fact that GM doesn't gain much. I wouldn't mind a tie up if GM gained quite a bit out of it. With that being said, I think Honda and VW would be the best partners for GM if GM had to be in an alliance. Both companies have technologies that GM could use. GM could help VW in America, and vice versa in Europe. Outside of those 2 companies, I'm not excited about any others. But what about Ford? Hmm...GM buying Ford and dumping Lincoln, Mercury, and Pontiac? Could that work? It would be a juggernaut in North America and Europe for sure.

Toyota, DaimlerChrysler, and Nissan-Renault are the only auto companies with enough money to buy a faltering GM. VW is about broke, Ford is in the red, BMW and Honda are too small. Here's my prediction...DCX. Zetsche takes over the helm...merges Mercedes, Chrysler and GM into a global juggernaut and moves the company headquarters to Detroit, so as to appease Americans. They'll probably get rid of some overlapping brands for N.A. GM has too many valuable assets around the world like Holden, Daewoo, Chevrolet, and Cadillac, and Opel. It's the largest automaker in China. GM will never disappear. Before they would go into a bankruptcy, I think the GM bra…

GM May Shrink Pontiac Lineup to One Model From Six (Update1) Email | Print | A A A By Greg Bensinger Dec. 18 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. peddled Pontiacs for years with the slogan “We Build Excitement.” To stay afloat, it’s producing fewer thrills -- and models. The company may shrink the Pontiac division to a single model from six following a drop in sales every year since 1999. “It might be just one model,” Mark LaNeve, GM’s North American sales chief, said in an interview. GM joins Chrysler LLC and Ford Motor Co. in trimming brands as U.S. sales sag amid the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression. GM has said it will run out of cash b…

According to GMI the GM board apparently made the decision to shut Pontiac down by 2015 a few years ago... One of the biggest critics of that decision was Rick Wagoner. Did I miss something?!?! 1) Can the board make these kinds of decisions? 2) What is the purpose of making a decision like that in the first place? Pontiac is/was a volume division which could've/does have a lot of life left *IF* the appropriate investment is made. (Then again, so did Oldsmobile, Saturn and Hummer) 3) If this were the case, then why the continued investment in the G8 and Solstice variants & 4) Why did Bob Lutz even care about Pontiac at this point, if it were to be shut down all alo…
